if you twitter it, they will come

IF YOU TWITTER IT, THEY WILL COME
Sometimes people are just embarrassing.  Usually I focus on silly twats who insist they need a thousand dollar night vision scope “to own the night”, along with seventy-three more pounds of crap, not including BDU’s ( a horrid and sloppy piece of crap replacing the sensible and functional and decent looking OD fatigues, way before the even worse digital desert crap or other equally little thought out items of clothing ) and boots, on his way to bug-out to his McBunker.  But I’m more amazed at our humble abode out here in the middle of nowhere and their total disconnect from reality.  After the BLM and other fed agencies screwed independent ranchers by decreeing that no cows could eat free grass that numbered in the millions of acres- and by the way, grazing cut down on dry timber for fires- but were encouraged to go to mega-corporation owned feed lots instead, the local economy moved away from gambling and ranching ( and a place for the surrounding ghost lands to come in for grocery shopping occasionally ) to mining.  And after a taste of five percent taxes, the state fell in love with mining all over again ( Dayton was one of the first towns in the state after gold was found there in 1849- just down the road from Carson City.  And of course, who can forget Virginia City? ).  Yet, no one seems to think the gravy train will ever end. The city airport exemplifies this.

In 2005 the airplane gambling charter company that had serviced the town left.  No one has foolishly agreed to take their place.  Our casinos are good enough for this area, and there are bordellos here which make any rich bitch tourist happier than a pig in slop, but there is a very good reason that there aren’t planes running the well-off into this Podunk backwaters burg.  The middle class is shrinking and the rich have much better places to go.  And that trend ain’t going to reverse. Yet the airport authority thinks that a Twitter campaign will reverse their fortunes.  Which, strangely, coincides with their retarded notion to finance a runway extension.  The city is pissing away money like nobodies business.  They want a new tennis court, at around a quarter million, when one sits unused and relatively new.  And a new police station, as if growth will continue forever.  Any supply disruption in oil and the heavy diesel machinery stops.  And if oil goes up but not gold, the very diffuse gold ore can’t be profitable processed.  People in charge of tens of millions of dollars and they have no concept of Peak Oil or the chipping away of the petrodollar.

  1. Do they really not understand the coming collapse or are they just trying to get the last bit of wool they can fleece from the gullible investors? After all most have their private plane or yacht and a distant summer home probably in a nice tropical clime where the people are still used to the feudal lifestyles imposed by extreme rich and extreme poor.

    1. I'm of the mind most are blinded by Growth Forever paradigm.

  2. Elko was doing fairly well on spending money (mainly from getting burned in the meltdown in gold prices in the '90s)

I read the local Elko internet paper. Townies out there are whining about the occasional crime and such.

Still, I'd rather deal with 15,000 knuckleheads vs 15 million.
