By having no skin in the game, but being rarely made to suffer any consequences for stupid, people embrace even more stupid.  Because it pays and it is easy ( and leisure is a survival trait-in low calorie situations, lazy means you survive longer ).  Why is feminism embraced as if a long lost muscular lover with elongated tongue and endowed like a porn star?  Because it pays the bills.  Why is Political Correctness embraced equally enthusiastically?  Victim Status Money ( we’s be da descendents of O-pressed Nee-go’s, yo.  Show us da money ).  Well, you can’t just pretend to like being a victim.  You have to signal to those keeping a wary eye on the paychecks how much of a victim you are.
*
And ask any government of Madison Avenue whore, the more you repeat a lie, even an obvious one, the more folks subconsciously believe it ( you might know it is a lie but you act like it isn’t.  You know Brand X soap doesn’t clean for crap, but you know you must buy something to solve some problem-that is the underlying message you follow ).  You can lie to yourself enough until you believe it.  So bitches, who can be stupid to start ( relying on looks and male programming to skate through life ), just keep repeating how super deluxe wonderful and strong they are and pretty soon they are looking around in bafflement as bullets go wizzing by their empty head.  Hell, most guys can’t handle combat, but at least they are physically able to perform even if not psychologically ( which is not an issue except in modern decadent societies which fail to feed the natural violent tendencies ).
*
When you ignore biology like that ( aggression must be programmed AND practiced-and not backstabbing hen pecking aggression, but the violent physical confrontational type ), it tends to distort your thinking.  Before you know it, reality becomes an option.  When reality becomes an option, stupidity becomes normal.  When stupidity becomes normal you defend being stupid and double down on it ( doesn’t this sound like that cable TV commercial? ).
*
Classic example.  Antibiotics cures clap, so everyone is humping like rabbits.  Then, suddenly one day, you get the AIDS.  Oops.  Over in Africa, the place is lousy with little coneheads.  The only birth control they understand is famine.  Or anal sex.  Which leads to the worst AIDS globally.  Oops!  Hell, you would think that in Africa, the incidence of acting stupid would have been eradicated, since once colonialism ended the whole place has been Darwin Central.  The only thing I can think of is that the generalized tendency in American Blacks to culturally disregard education because they are militarized in tribal warrior ethos holds true even more over in the homeland.  They aren’t stupid, but refuse education.
*
Again, this is a survival trait.  You can breed soft White societies into being book smarter, and that tends to reinforce the infrastructure which rewards that behavior.  So for a time, Whites rule.  But if Blacks remain at the tribal warrior society level, they might be at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder on and off, but they can never be jeopardized with extinction like White civilization can.  I think this is a very important tidbit that you as a White Boy might want to keep in mind.  They are strong and you are not, tribally.  They will kick your ass if you achieve close proximity.  That isn’t racism, that is comparing cultural training.
*
Getting back to stupid, go back to disease.  Growing up in a society where Acting Stupid has an antibiotic for it, look at the personal sanitation of most people.  One loyal minion had a little diatribe on the public restroom habits of the average slob, going into the grunts and splashing and use of too little toilet paper.  God, it was hilarious.  I should have saved that one.  The point is, why adequately sanitize your hands when good old medical science can cure what ails you.  Why stop smoking?  There is bound to be a cure one day! ( one imagines the dearth of smokers is due more to the realization that cancer is too profitable to be cured, more than higher taxes or social pressure was ).
*
Folks don’t look at their fecal stained hands and mentally shrug and then vigorously scrub the fatigue from their eyes.  The decision making is more subconscious, a denial that preventive medicine is more important than actual drugs.  It is sloppy habits.  Well, guess what?  All those habits come with your friends and family showing up.  Not just the ignorance of basic hygiene ( and, I might add, this can be taken too far, as in washing your hands to the point you cannot build up your own immunity ).
*
No, Scooby, you don’t need to wash your hands after you pee.  Pee isn’t toxic.  Not unless you use someone else’ urine that is a walking corpse like the above AIDS victims.  You’re serving food?  Okay, you courtesy wash with water only.  You wash with soap too much, not only do you not build up your own immune system, you dry and crack your hands and it makes things that much worse.  You work in the hospital, this doesn’t really apply.  You’re already dead and don’t know it, zombie boy.
*
But sanitation issues are the least of your problems.  I mean, don’t worry, you’ll screw the pooch with that.  But think about the other problems stupid people will cause.  They lack logic and common sense, they see no need for discipline.  The discipline to not deplete resources too quickly.  That includes the food you bought, slowly and painfully, by the way.  But also consuming too much fuel or draining batteries or whatever.  Noise and light discipline?  What’s that?  Alert on guard duty?  Why should I do that?  Get off my ass and offer equal effort for equal pay?  That is a foreign concept.
*
The long and short of it is that people are the same every where and every when.  They will always be lazy and greedy, unless forced to be otherwise.  That is what culture is for.  It prevents normal stupid behavior.  Since our culture has ignored reality for so long, a consequence of being able to by our landslide of energy surplus, you cannot blame people for acting as they do.  The question is, do you want to deal with the consequences of their lifetime cultural indoctrination?  It could risk your life.  Don’t blame people for being stupid, but don’t think you need to pay for that, either.

YOUR SKIN IN THE GAME

*
We’ve talked about this a lot, but not for some time ( if my memory serves ).  The utter stupidity of people and how that will endanger you.  We are surrounded by stupid.  It is almost a religion.  People take pride in sharing the opinion of stupid people, saving them the trouble of thinking.  And then think they are smarter than everyone else.  It really simply boggles the mind, even though smart people shouldn’t get too complacent since they still do stupid stuff.  And obviously there is no cure for stupid, since we removed the Darwin Feedback Loop, protecting people from their own stupidity.
*
I’m not going to go all in and write a 678 page book on examples of people being stupid, since that would just cover A through Ce, and take me a lot of time.  You just need to look out the window.  Stupid engineers, stupid politicians, stupid ghetto pukes, they all clamor for your attention trying to do the stupidest crap.  I don’t believe IQ’s dropped because we let in Other Colors into the country. Not that this helped matters any.  But when you reward stupid, you get more stupid.  It is pretty simple.  People will get a lot smarter overnight when they see over people getting smack-downed for being stupid.
*
I stumbled on to a video of some guy in Australia hitting a stupid bitch.  It was a glorious joy to behold.  Not that I’m down with smacking gals, because unlike stupid dumb bitches libbers, I understand the biological difference between the genders and respect that.  But you can’t claim this gal didn’t deserve it.  After a bit of road rage, two gals, with a baby on board, started throwing crap at the car that had been in front of them and then slowed down too much for their liking.  One imagines alcohol was involved.  The guy gets out at the stop light and confronts one of them, with crossed arms and a smirk, by smacking her a good one across her stupid face.  Then of course he has to pretend he was fearful and claims she had a sharp pointy thing in hand, just to try to minimize the rape the justice system is going to inflict on him.
*
This is the kind of thing that we should see far more of.  You act stupid, bam!  Bitch be lucky he only threw one punch, instead of squatting over her and pummeling her face until blood started spurting.  Out of a million acts of stupidity, one gets its just reward, and instead of awarding the guy lifetime tax  exemption he’ll be screwed.  Of course, you know, greed.  The state justice system is rewarded with extra wealth by making vigilante acts illegal, so nobody gets any home grown anti-stupid medicine.  The same reason they let in waves of unwashed OtherColors to jack up the crime rate and real estate prices, strip the land like locusts and usher in domestic collapse faster.  It pays.
*
I’ll stop there.  It is just to illustrate that since encouraging stupid makes the right people money, nothing will stop or reverse the trend.  Let’s move on to the apocalypse.  You, as a normal human that yearns for tribe as a basic evolutionary urge, having been unable to accept the fact that you cannot give out the privilege of tribal security unless the members earn your trust and display loyalty, allow family and friends in, just because they are the least worst candidates.  You drank all the Kool-Aid about needing a tribe for the die-off.  Now, granted, NOT having a tribe blows.  The reason we were tribal for a hundred thousand years ( or longer-not a huge point ), before evil ag ruined us with religion and government, was because it works.
*
But like all cultural activity, you need an infrastructure behind the behavior to make it work.  Kids used to be raised by two parents because divorce was outlawed.  People are no better or worse now, they just were not allowed to act as bad as they wished.  Tribes worked because people were raised to believe that the tribes welfare came first, in order that you alone were less vulnerable.  If anyone was silly enough to ignore that, to show anything other than blind loyalty, it was goodbye Irene, and don’t let the lions chew on your vulnerable ass on the way leaving.  That reinforced to the others how stupid it was to act in any other way ( and this wasn’t a leadership decision, this was the vote of every tribe member, whose safety was assured by tribal unity ).
*
Today, you have multiple generations who have no concept to loyalty to any entity except for he who pays them the most.  We are mercenaries, switching allegiance at a whim.   If Big Daddy Obammy promises us a free cell phone plan, well then, screw Whitey.  We’s be all up in dat mofo’s face wid da Knock Out Game, yo!  If our states pension fund was only saved from being nuked from orbit by the fed propping up a stock market bubble, well then we’ll gladly send over our National Guard boys to get slaughtered in the middle east ( yes, I know local state soldiers were not under the control of that state for some time, having been federalized.  I’m making a point here ).
*
“Oh, how I love my children.  Look at how great of a mother I am.  Oh, wait, I can get half of Mr. Himself’s paycheck and don’t have to give him sex twice a month, but instead shack up with a new guy and get some of his money too?  Yeah, screw those little snots, they’ll get used to their new daddy soon enough.” But don’t you dare call her a whore!  In a collapsing system, as the pie shrinks, each slice is fought over far more bitterly.  And with more bloodshed.  There is no loyalty anymore, since that ideal has been financialized.    Your closest sibling, your best friend, how much loyalty can you expect from them when the chips are down?  Even if that isn’t an issue for you, you have a much bigger problem.
*
Circling back to stupidity.  Since people have been rewarded all their lives ( or at least not punished, a form of reward )  for acting stupid, even the most well intentioned new tribal member is going to act like the world’s biggest dumb ass in the history of mankind, being a stupid piece of stupid.  You might not see that, willfully blind, since you can’t let go of the myth of family loyalty, or admit to yourself you were stupid enough to befriend such a dumbass.  But odds are good they are stupid.  And stupid will, literally, endanger your life shortly thereafter.  We cover that tomorrow.

REAL PRECIOUS METAL 3

I ended yesterday with “Essentially, you have to give up on the concept of wealth.  That is tough for most, given the last hundred years of extreme surplus we had the option of investing in the growth of wealth.  NOT a historical norm”.  I think this deserves its own article, because while we might have checked off the box “we’ll return to the Dark Ages” on your apocalypse research, you have no context to adequately judge that statement.  It is like telling a fish that water exists.  You are right, but the fish cannot conceive of what you babble.  I mean, come on!  He is a fish.  His brain isn’t exactly Einstein material, and he smells like unwashed crotch.
*
Even if you’ve been homeless you cannot conceive of there not being excess wealth.  Homeless guys live above Turd World Standards off of the trash we don’t even value any more.  What else do you want as proof that even today we still see the ability to grow wealth?  Granted, most people cannot see that, either.  They cry about income inequality ( as much as I like the general mindset of Chris Hedges, some times his PC libtard posturing annoys the crap out of me ) but they don’t do anything to recognize that in our society you don’t need much income anyway.  You are only poor if you follow the China-Mart lemmings over the cliff.  If you spit on car ownership and rent, despite the difficulties, and look at debt as incarceration, you’ll do just fine.  There is still enough surplus for that lifestyle, just not the SUV/McMansion one.
*
Yeah, you’d better feel bad.  You should be able to prep AND invest in wealth preservation even if you only work one day a week on minimum wage.  THAT is what junk land and lack of a car buy you, by the way.  That is how bad the system is gamed against you.  Sure, you get “value” for the other four days a week you work to buy “necessary” items.  Unfortunately everything you buy with that are the industries where true inflation is showing up.  $25k for a USED car, with 70k miles on it?  $20k a year college educations?  Houses under $200k selling like hot cakes?  Wow!  If that is “value”, I want nothing to do with it.
*
So, because even right before the collapse there is still the ability to generate excess wealth, even for the poor ( you don’t think silver isn’t worth at least several hundred bucks?  Historically, prior to the Carbon Fuel Age, it was.  That wheat isn’t worth at a minimum one hours wage a pound?  Is used to be, before insanely high energy dense oil was turned into food ), you really cannot wrap your head around the fact that excess wealth was rare, even for most heads of state ( the minor states, those without colonies ), for most of history.
*
Most of us should be happy to have enough ammunition and food for the apocalypse.  That too isn’t normal.  Historically it wasn’t always easy having enough of both nitrates for the soil and for ammunition.  Colonialism was in large part about mining the deposits of the nitrates not available locally.  Without quality colonies of any great magnitude, Germany had to turn its coal into food.  Britain did much better stealing the oil it needed to do so.  Five hundred years of colonialism was essentially about little more than who had the surplus food.  And yet for all those centuries of war and famine, slavery and genocide, we look on our surplus food as a God given right and all that it means to be ‘Murican.
*
Yet all that surplus food was a form of mining, just as it had been for every empire and civilization ever.  Mine the soil and resources to win the population race to win the war.  Even our colonization efforts were about winning excess food.  First for tropical deposits of nitrates ( hello, Puerto Rico and Philippines ), then to control the oil that became nitrates.  We constantly had to expand to keep up with the soil depletion.  Now, soil is basically nothing but a sponge for artificial fertilizer ( besides, even if the soil is dead, the field is conveniently located under the sun ), eating our oil.  Historically, food is no where near as trivial as we look on it as.
*
I expect the average bear to see excess surplus as a normal state of affairs.  I also expect that loyal minions know far better than the average idiot out there.  If you don’t have one gram of silver, that should not bother you in the least.  If all you can afford is long term storage food and ammunition, you are already far ahead of the historical norm.  You must risk your life just keeping those items safe and sound.  But at least they have a tangible worth.  Defense and calories.  What is gold and silver?  One of the few non-modern cultural truths across the globe ( some others would be “women and children first”, “incest taboo”, and “proper gender roles” ) is that gold and silver are universal trading chits.  In and of themselves they are just pretty sparkly trinkets.  It is only in their trade value are they worth anything.
*
But food and ammunition IN HAND are far more valuable than the money that can buy them.  Even in good times, because once delivered the utility value is instant and isn’t effected by supply and demand in the future.  Not that I’m saying silver and gold are not constant in their value.  They are.  They always have the same purchasing power.  But if the crop fails, and there is no food to be had for sale, the food is priceless at that time.  Gold and silver only hold the advantage as a Bug Out Bank, or when there is no resource contraction.  During normal times.  Not during violent upheavals, except as the escape thereof.  Unless your escape destination is low on food also.  Oops.
*
Precious metal cannot always be used in trade.  That is its downside.  Its upside is that is will always return to its store of value.  That just doesn’t always help you out when you need it.  If you are of limited means, the translation being “you can’t always get what you want”, you get to choose between concrete needs or abstract wealth that isn’t always liquid.  The poor must cut out middlemen.  The poor grow their own food, they don’t buy it ( historically ).  They build their own home-they don’t pay someone to do so.  And they have what they need so that they don’t need a currency unit for buying those items ( barter is extremely inefficient.  So is peasant farming.  But that inefficiency also buys redundancy and safety.  Barter does away with needing trading chits ).
*
The poor don’t need wealth.  They cannot have it, so they don’t create a need for it.  If you are “poor” ( relatively speaking, obviously ), you need to bypass the need for future wealth.  Granted, stockpiling isn’t as good as manufacturing, but for most of us it will have to do.  If you can eliminate the need for stored wealth, by already possessing what that would have bought, you insulate and protect yourself.  Now apply that to all you own or want and seek that to the best of your ability.

REAL PRECIOUS METAL 2

Keeping in mind all of yesterday’s caveats about extra investing money and priorities, we come back to a theoretical choice between two precious metals.  Silver is at a very low price, due to derivatives markets suppression, and both due to undersupply and hyperinflation ( that is how imperial fiat currency ends, yo ) it will only skyrocket in price from here ( granted, the timeline is unknown ).  Ammunition is at a very low price right now, basically due to a lack of competition for its ingredients from the Chinese as over production meets unemployment globally, and it can only go back up in price from company bankruptcies.  And, I should add, both are very susceptible to political dictates ending supply.
*
So, with limited funds, what is the best pick?  They are equally a bargain and equally at their real end as far as affordable investments.  And they each have their down sides.  You can’t defend yourself with silver, and you can’t get emergency funds with ammunition ( when everyone around you has no disposable funds, ammunition is an illiquid asset.  With silver, there will always be a rich buyer somewhere ).  With ammunition, it only generates wealth through battle and theft.  With silver, it is wealth, forever, but only after the threat against you life has subsided.  And, both are equally valuable because at the end of the Oil/Industrial Age neither will ever be produced again.
*
I’m not saying “buy both”.  If you were able to do that we wouldn’t be having this discussion.  Since both are invaluable, which do you choose on such limited funds?  Look at it this way.  Right now, the choice is rather obvious, based on utility.  If you bought $200 worth of silver, that is ten ounces, ten bullion coins ( I dislike junk silver.  I don’t believe most people recognize their value over bullion because of my ten years in retail I was able to buy silver from the cash register at face value-it only dried up after Y2K-showing few folks are aware of silver in old coins.  The experts, those assigning value to silver in trade, won’t care about the difference either.  If anything, they assign more value to bullion for its ease of trade.  It doesn’t have to be weighed and then its silver content calculated ).
*
As dirt cheap as silver is ( some think it should be on parity with gold, given the state of its supply.  That goes a bit too far, but considering how low the gold price is in its suppressed price from the central bankers, even if silver was one tenth the price it isn’t inconceivable to believe $500 or even $1,000 silver might be possible today, prior to serious inflation ), it is still a bet on value.  Ammunition on the other hand, is a bet on your life if you don’t have it.  Granted, silver is essentially indestructible and ammunition is perishable eventually even if you don’t use it up, so this is in part a apples to oranges comparison.
*
But for that mere ten ounces, you can buy at a minimum of one thousand rounds of ammunition and up to three thousand depending on your reloading skill.  If you’ll pardon the pun, that is a heck of a lot more bang for your buck than silver.  Especially considering that most minions probably are as stocked in ammo as they are in food ( ie, not enough ), three thousand rounds are the bomb-diggity.  Silver is easy enough to calculate.  It is about a buck over spot price for the dealer fee and about a buck to charge and ship it.  It went down recently, but even so about $20 an ounce delivered isn’t too far off.  What about the ammo calculation?
*
A thousand rounds is steel cased carbine rounds.  I wouldn’t recommend it, as most folks seem to agree that it does corrode the barrel even if it shouldn’t and that it really kind of sucks in accuracy.  Not that I think it would matter unduly if you are in terrain that gives you a max of 100 yards shooting.  And we’ve talked about reloading.  You can do so with steel, as it is more pliable than brass due to its manufacturing method.  You just can’t reload for guns that need the case to expand to seal the chamber ( such as war surplus-modern guns are fine as they are engineered to closer specs ).  I’d also beware the extraction issue.  I refuse to use steel on my Enfield.  They are too rare now to take a chance ( and the spare parts-wow! The difference ten years makes ).  Again, modern guns are fine in that aspect.  So, steel is fine for some but not others.
*
If you do reload, I can only recommend reloading carbine rounds, even for your old full thirty cal guns.  As per a Brownie Point Award Winning minions knowledge, you can use Red Dot shotgun powder in battle rifle cases, if the bullet is a pistol round.  Use 13g of powder and you’ll get over 500 rounds per pound of powder ( the article is at Cast Bullet Assoc Dot Org, titled ‘“The Load“ Is 13 Grains Of Red Dot‘ ).  As a bonus, shotgun powder is $20 a pound rather than $30 a pound rifle powder.  No, this isn’t ideal, but at its cheapest with you casting the bullets it is also as low as seven to nine cents each-assuming the case stays reusable given the lesser amount of abuse.  Even if you must buy the bullets you are looking at around 17cent a round.
*
Not a great savings over factory rounds, which is why they are such a siren song buy, but great for those of us used to buying 50-70 cent 30 cal battle rifle ammo.  It turns those battle rifles into carbines.  If you are going with “The Load”, experiment sooner rather than later.  I heard bad things about the 7.62x39 cast bullet mold, for instance.  Not enough grip and the bullets fly wild.  The 32 ACP mold seems to work better.  But you want to try it out yourself obviously ( the two bullets would be what I would use for my 303British ).  I’m not saying I’d prefer to reduce my rifle load, grant you.  I am saying that five  times the ammo for the same powder cost is worth the sacrifice in power and range.  Nothing is free, especially not lunch.  When you lose your Oil Age, sacrifices must be made.
*
In the end, ammunition is a consumable and silver is a investment in wealth preservation.  But in uncertain times, that consumable is more valuable as it saves your life.  Thousands of rounds of ammo is more valuable than thousands of dollars worth of stored wealth, when the ass falls out of your civilization.  Essentially, you have to give up on the concept of wealth.  That is tough for most, given the last hundred years of extreme surplus we had the option of investing in the growth of wealth.  NOT a historical norm.  Continuing and Concluding tomorrow.

REAL PRECIOUS METAL

Today, a bit of prioritizing if funds are severely limited.  I know this doesn’t apply to everyone, and if that is true in your case, just read this from the viewpoint of someone who shall shortly need this information.  It’s a friggin economic collapse coming, yo, not the same pussy ass economic decline we thought we were so smart to weather.  In a decline, your car goes down a steep grade, causing anxiety and wear on the brakes ( I really hate automatic transmissions for that reason, as well as their performance on snow and ice-but I’m just a primitive fool unimpressed by progress ).  In a collapse, your car goes over the cliff.  See the difference?
*
If you think your Decline strategies are applicable in a Collapse, you will rudely be proven wrong.  Oh, congratulations, you are the proud owner of a crafted beer stein company.  You are my Randian hero.  You work under no lash, free and proud, beholden to none but the tax collector and the Reaper.  And then, one day, despite all the perfection you achieved, your customers?  Aaaannnd, they’re gone!  You can’t control the macro environment.  On a long enough time line we are all wearing rat pelt jockstraps and beating on each other with chunks on reclaimed rebar.  In between somewhere, we ALL lose our jobs.  I guar-an-damn-tee you.  Prepare to jettison the soft and easy life and get ready to make hard choices.
*
Big and bad and mighty and righteous manly men survivalists laugh in riotous glee as they fling handfuls of bullion coins hither and yon as they sit atop pallets full of factory round ammunition.  Some of us, because, you know, we are insignificant worms that are unworthy since we don’t devote our lives to worshipping Mammon ( if I had, you wouldn’t get to read this wonderfulness but rather face the grim prospect of slogging through inane pap like most other prepper gurus bloodily vomit onto the Internet with their grasping greedy paws held out in expectation of compensation ), actually have to choose between one of the other rather than both.
*
Oh, the shame of it all, not living lives of central bank lackey consumers and defenders of the ‘Murican way!  No, not really.  I’m being sarcastic, so hump you.  For those NORMAL folks who must budget, prioritize and choose, what about those silver purchases?  Should you buy silver, or is the other, other precious metal, lead and brass, a better way to spend your limited funds?  You would think this is a very straight forward answer because, duh, you can’t hurdle silver coins at a high enough velocity to harm those attacking you ( even with a slingshot, and the non-aerodynamic shape might screw up your aim anyway ).
*
But come on, who thinks about buying silver BEFORE food and ammo?  Only morons, and I briefly visit Glittery Fart Unicorn Land when I think about my loyal minions and trust none of you are morons.  I wouldn’t buy so much as a single junk silver dime before I had several years worth of wheat, and I wouldn’t even look up today’s spot price before I had a minimum of 2k bolt rifle rounds or 5k semi rounds ( I usually hold that 3k is a good count for your bolt and 10k for semi’s, but I base that on my “sleep soundly at night” personal preference.  The above should be the bare assed minimum, and not an end count ) or 10k rimfire.
*
Once you have your minimum stockpile and a sound plan for a far less populated spot to spend the collapse ( you know I love junk land, and starting at a thousand bucks it is affordable and unlike most of your other preps it can actually be used if nothing bad ever happens-vacation cabin, retirement villa-but obviously your mileage may vary ), have paid down debt and in general are just looking around and wondering when the collapse is going to happen since it is rather overdue, you may be asking yourself, am I REALLY as prepared as I want to be?
*
So you look at your depleted savings ( the savings you have besides the untouchable savings that is unemployment insurance-call the depleted savings your investment fund ) and need to make a choice.  How do I invest this for maximum efficiency?  This is, granted, a highly personal choice and subject to unlimited variables, so I’d just like you to keep the following in mind.  Both precious metals, silver bullion AND ammunition, will be soon gone for good.  Completely.  And never to return.  We’ve talked about the industrial use of silver and how very little is actually left aboveground.  It is as scarce as gold now, or close enough.  And you cannot reclaim it as fuel becomes scarce.  And every year production declines as industrial use increases.
*
If you ever, ever in all of forever want to own any silver at an affordable price, now is going to pretty much be only time to do so.  And I’m serious about that panicking.  Any disruption in Business As Usual and the price spikes insanely and supply completely dries up.  Do any of you old farts remember the gold and silver demand during the turbulent 80’s?  That was with a lot more supply available.  If you want to flush an afternoon away, read up or watch videos on the shrinkage of silver supply since then.  This isn’t me panicking about Peak Oil or what not, these are solid conservative voices reporting this.  Even the Weasel Doomers ( the ones who go out on a limb and say “we are in a bubble.  It will pop soon”.  Gee, ya friggin think Sherlock? ) are now reporting this as if it was just another interesting fact ( “nothing to see here, move along” ).
*
With silver, it is quite simple.  Regardless of energy cost or mine depletion, the only thing you need to know is that this is the last time you’ll get it cheap.  Even if it never runs out, it WILL jump up in price.  With ammunition, count on the same thing.  There might be shortages, there might not.  But what cannot last long is the low price.  I’ll continue with that tomorrow.

guest article-article 1 of 2 today

GUEST ARTICLE
 article 1 of 2 today
Did someone mention a forever gun? Because once again, here comes the guy that’s telling you to go out and get a flintlock musket :D Yeah, I know; it’s a sin in these here parts to tell someone to go out and drop $1500 on an 18thcentury weapon, so here’s what you do instead.

Pick up that gun making book from Ronald B. Brown. He doesn’t give specific directions for making what I’m about to touch on, but he provides the basics. I’d suggest a shorter, large bore weapon, such as a Blunderbuss design (Think in terms of one shot, maximum damaged bad guys). You can buy the flintlock, lock work at a place such as Dixie Guns Works.

Now you’re probably thinking that this is really not a forever gun, because eventually, even the steel will no longer be available. Not a problem. Remember that episode of Star Trek in which Capt Kirk grabbed a piece of bamboo, miraculously came across some charcoal, salt petre, and sulfur, combined it all together, and with a makeshift fuse, shot the reptilian dude that was stalking him? Well sure, it was a load of shit, but what do you expect from a commie puke like Roddenberry? But apparently there is some truth behind it. Ronald Brown briefly touches on the design of a low tech, all wooden gun that utilizes a fuse (Here’s where it would be nice to have an old fashioned hand drill with some bits. Some hobby cannon fuse would be nice to have as well).

Next you will be asking, what about the powder? Well, I’m not gonna sugar coat this, as it does present quite a challenge. However one factor to consider over a past civilization collapse, is that we have superior knowledge going into the next collapse. You would have to learn basic chemistry, and learn how to procure nitrates and sulfur (the charcoal is the easy part). Also included in that Brown fellows book, are various ways to make gunpowder; many of them easier than what I’ve outlined above, so start off with the easy stuff first, depending on what resources are still available. None of this will be easy, but it will provide you with a true forever gun, if you’re willing to put the effort into it.

( note from Jim-not sure if you can find a cheap print book.  Here is a PDF book:

note: sincere apologies.  More "head up my ass so change more stuff".  I'm switching the e-mail newsletter over to my Reagan e-mail.  This allows me to send out the thing BCC so no one's address is displayed for everyone and his brother to see.  Those already subscribed need do nothing.  Those who decided to forego the delights of membership can now safely do so without compromising their privacy.  Just send me ANOTHER e-mail and I'll add you to the mailing list.  The e-mail address is

I was trying to make things easier rather than harder using a separate e-mail service.  That didn't work as well in reality as in my head.

COLLAPSE CAMP 2
Camping is only enjoyable with the right gear and skills, and the same is true with the apocalypse.  And just as camping ain’t really roughing it and hence isn’t even really camping if you cheat too much, neither will you really be able to survive the apocalypse if you cheat on your gear.  With camping, an emphasis on luxury, comfort and substituting money for skill makes the whole enterprise camping only in name.  With the collapse, an emphasis on luxury, comfort and substituting money for skill makes the whole endeavor surviving in theory only.
*
Just because you are sitting around without a house surrounding you doesn’t mean you are camping.  All you are doing is substituting on grid luxuries for off grid luxuries.  Doing without luxuries should be camping.  That doesn’t mean you are living like a savage, it just means you are minimizing your logistics trail.  Minimizing the dependency on modern non-replicated goods.  What you are attempting to do should be more like getting as far away from modern living as you can, not trying to duplicate as far as possible that kind of life.
*
A Coleman gas lantern for super bright light, that is luxurious.  A LED headlamp or even a LED flashlight with solar recharging built in, that is far higher of a technology piece of equipment than a candle in a lantern, but the price is similar to candles and LED’s last a lot longer than the fuel.  It is minimizing your need for illumination, not trying to duplicate a room’s brightness from your home, while minimizing  your needs and investment.  Setting aside the need to abide by fire prevention regulations, two soup cans burning twigs make as efficient a stove as an expensive butane burner using canisters of gas.  You aren’t shunning modern materials, you are just minimizing them.
*
You’ll have fire long after the butane would have run out, and another two AA batteries are a much cheaper back-up for illumination than another liter of fuel.  You are maximizing the use of every item as cheaply and with as few accessories as possible.  Granted, less expense and less luxurious also means greatly reduced performance or convenience, but for the life of me I can’t understand why that is considered a bad thing.  Manly men go camping and rough it.  They shouldn’t be pampered females about it.
*
Anyone that was in Army can relate to this minimalist experience.  The military wasn’t too concerned with your comfort or providing any kind of luxury ( like, say, sleep ).  If your unit was mechanized all that did was ensure you were out in the field a lot longer than if you had only a backpack for provisions.  But the lifestyle was exactly the same- living out of a backpack.  The only difference was three to five days compared to three to five weeks.  And you know what?  I remember a good portion of that month long deployment in the boonies better than the rest of my time at the unit.  I say the Army ruined camping for me, but it wasn’t a terrible experience.  Since officers dislike camping, being the pampered princesses they are, they mostly leave you alone out there.
*
But really, the best part was the closer contact with nature.  Fresh air except when inside your fart sack, and a better grasp of primitive living.  It was just more natural.  Just as the military allows you to embrace your natural state of violence and hatred, camping gets you closer to your primal state that was far more natural than farming and its hovel dwelling ( a wilderness hovel isn’t occupied long enough to breed vermin ).  What I disliked about it was the controlling nature of everything that would have made it far less primitive.
*
Simple things you wouldn’t deny yourself even in the most simple camping experience, such as hot water to shave in, or take a whore’s bath with.  Carbohydrates with your meals.  A full nights sleep.  A fire to warm yourself with rather than relying on living in Artic gear.  Stripping that gear to sleep, rather than leaving it on for tactical reasons.  Don’t get me wrong, I’d do it again the same way just for practice in deprivation if needed.  What chapped my ass was the deliberate rules against individuals seeking these small comforts themselves as a control mechanism.  Evidently one morning of hot water to shave with would have eliminated all the training gained by living in a cold tent in winter with no bathing or hot meals for a month.
*
So, military camping is needlessly primitive, and most modern civilian camping is needlessly luxurious and wasteful.  I trust the average bear is smart enough to pick and choose between the two.  Can you do the same with the apocalypse?  Not so luxurious as it endangers you nor so primitive it is just needless torture.  You don’t need a grand in Mollie super tactical web gear, dozens of AR clips and other equipment, nor do you want merely a wool blanket and a handful of cartridges for your hunting rifle.  I would be thinking about caches instead of enough gear to carry around the kitchen sink, and I’d be more worried about training for ambush as a light infantryman than being a Ninja equipped for close order combat.  But that is just me.
*
I’d rather have a small primitive underground cabin than a deluxe aboveground concrete bunker.  But again, that is just me.  I’d rather buy a buttstock recoil pad for my old surplus rifle than buy a fancy plastic gun that came with a recoil spring as standard equipment.  You have the same amount of comfort with a lot less money ( oranges to oranges, compared to an AR-10 rather than an AR-15 ).  It is just the 80/20 Rule.  80% of the gain for only 20% of the cost.  It is a tiny amount of skill or deprivation over throwing money at the problem.
*
Rather than modernizing your post-collapse experience, add some primitiveness to it.  Can you really enjoy the apocalypse if you look on every day as your fancy equipment subsides to entropy?  That is nothing but stress!  But if you move closer to a pre-industrialized lifestyle ( with exceptions, obviously, such as smokeless gunpowder and LED’s ), there is less to break down or run out.  Focus on taking the edges off the too primitive.  A deck of cards is great entertainment, compared to none.  A electronic game system with solar panels to run it, that is too luxurious.  It is too close to modern life and not close enough to post-apocalyptic.
*
If you cling too hard to now, post collapse will be a miserable experience for you.  Plan for and transition to less luxurious.  It will pay off in intangibles you ignore now.

article 1 of 2 today

ARTICLE 1 OF 2 TODAY
This is what the newsletter looks like:

BISON PREPPER NEWSLETTER #1
7-21-2018
***
Part Two.  Factoring in the worst case scenario before you decide to buy an item or not.  Don’t have well water if you can’t afford to drill a new one.  Don’t have a car unless you can afford a new transmission.
***
You don’t want to panic buy when prepping.  You could pay too much for a gun, then not have enough for food, for instance.  But you do want to panic if you are not prepped at all.  After the bare bones panic prepping, done dirt cheap, you can go back to being cautious and taking your time.
***
Part 2 in a new book, the Battle Rifle Book.  A planned 17 part book for those that simply must have a semi-auto, despite my best advice.  This chapter explains why affordability is one of the most important factors in your choice.
***
Using debt to prep is retarded.  In this part, why the bankers are immoral, hence you owe them nothing-a thief is not worthy of your honorary behavior.
***
Part 2 of not using debt to prep.  Debunking the only reason to have gotten into debt in the past, to run a business.  How that will bankrupt your business nowadays.
***
Part last, avoiding debt to prep.  It isn’t about saving all that much money as much as it is giving you much more flexibility to prep.
***
Relax, Francis, being too efficient, driven, Type A, is counter-productive and not natural.  Ignore the “every waking moment train for the apocalypse” advice.
