BALKANIZED

It isn’t any great feat of mental gymnastics to proclaim that in the future we will all be balkanized, broken up into tribes and squabbling over less than sufficient resources.  That the United States will splinter and fragment is not prognostic genius.  The only thing holding it together now is carbon fuels, insofar as the East holding, supplying or pacifying the West ( air, rail and road all dependent on coal and petrol ) in times of unrest.  For awhile now, the most casual observer could figure out that the federal government has used force, favoritism and bribes to divide and conquer all segments of society against each other in an effort to deflect action against itself ( there was been an endless line of groups lining up at the treasury window, hat in hand, begging for an exclusive payola privilege- this has not been balanced by any kind of acknowledgement that the government is just as likely to screw them over unmercifully, except perhaps by later generations in regards to the high probability of Social Security being not even likely available for their retirement ).  The Melting Pot has been cold and congealing for generations now both because the Feds are more interested in an uncooperative society and because when there is no village everyone turns to their masters for support ( and their masters cash in on that ).  But what concerns me is people’s apparent unwillingness to draw out these obvious facts to their unpleasant conclusion.  The Cold War is already Hot and will get much more so very quickly.

Tribes hate each other for many good reasons.  THEY are different and hostile, THEY hate you and want to kill you, THEY will steal your cattle and violate your women at the slightest opportunities, etc.  And we have been hating each other here in this little patch of hell for some time.  Whites cluster together in trailer parks or suburbia, Blacks cluster in neighborhoods, Seniors cluster in warm climes near golf courses.  Everyone is clustering and are only non-violent to the extent they get their pay-outs or want to stay out of trouble.  Females and Seniors, being naturally weaker, use the government as a surrogate tribute collector/enforcer.  Blacks, having less representation, tend to straight up violence ( and have far less fear of prison since it is just another ghetto they control ).  Whites, still clinging to residues of institutional monopoly, still mostly practice White Flight with the few resources left to them.  The divisions are there, generations old, and only a strong presence with a carrot in one hand and a stick in the other holds things together.  But we are no more peaceful than Yugoslavia was, no more cohesive than Iraq was with its different religious factions that gleefully fought each other at the first opportunity.  But we aren’t like Afghanis with a similar culture, happily fighting each other but also uniting to fight a foreign invader when necessary.  We have no uniting culture, not any more.  We will never unite to fight the Feds, and at the first opportunity everyone will turn on you.  Rooting for the same football team does not trump putting food on the table and it certainly won’t stop a bullet.  Be afraid of everyone but your closest allies.
