my biggest prepping mistake 4 of 4

MY BIGGEST PREPPING MISTAKE 4
*
Note: W.A, jr.  Got the book "Why Lincoln Chose War" yesterday.  Most excellent and many thanks.  I'll have read it by the time you see this.
*
I really think about the only, and the biggest, prepping mistake I made was not having an independent business so that I could work from anywhere.  It really wasn’t a mistake per se, as I did try on more than one occasion to start a home based business.  I was on the right path but took the wrong fork.  I became way too focused on writing, my love, rather than putting more effort and treasure into a business that would be successful.  Way too many times I tried to be a publisher, when perhaps I should have just sold other peoples books, or ignored books and writing altogether and did something else.  If I had a business, I could have lived in the tiniest farthest hamlet in the least populated state and felt much more comfortable in my seclusion than I do now.  Heck, I could have even still been in my present location, Elko county being bigger than a lot of other states.  Hundreds of square miles with just a handful of people here and there ( and even plenty of other locations with surface water ).  I picked the one spot with the most people because I needed a job because I didn’t have my own business.  This is not only my biggest mistake, it is my biggest regret.  I really screwed up by not focusing more here.  It wasn’t lack of discipline- I can work hard and still do, especially for someone my age.  I’ve scrimped and saved more than once to try to start a business, so I know I could have done it.  I just made poor choices ( I don’t accept that a brilliant idea would have still failed due to the economy.  I’m too bullheaded.  Income might have drastically declined, but I’d have hung in there ).

*

Even today, no child support and no rent ( well, I do pay half the girlfriends mortgage, but it is no more than what the old one cost me in car rentals, beer, gambling and cigarettes.  I look at having my land being paid off as no rent necessary in the greater scheme of things ), no stress financially, I still have no idea what would make a good business so I could escape from the city.  I mean, obviously it must fall within my skill set or I couldn’t make it work.  I’m not opening a fine dining establishment.  Or an accounting firm.  I wouldn’t have to like it.  After all, it is work.  And it couldn’t be a tactical mistake.  Such as offering manual labor in a region full of underemployed men, or using debt.  Or requiring rent.  Of course, all this assumes I actually made a mistake.  I might, by temperament, be ideally suited to what I am doing now.  A minimum wage job to make the bills, with the majority of my mental efforts devoted to my writing, which is not a business but a labor of love.  I like to think this reality is better off with one better writer rather than one more mediocre business owner.  Or is that hubris?  Or delusion?  Anyway, my prepper mistake.

my biggest prepping mistake 3 of 4

MY BIGGEST PREPPING MISTAKE 3
*
Note: L.J.S., sorry I can't respond to your e-mail, the reply or forward just hangs and won't respond.  Thanks for the links.  I hadn't heard of the authors and enjoyed them.
*
Did I make a mistake about where I live?  While I would have loved to settle down in the South, affordable land and jobs rarely went hand in hand and at the time unemployment might have meant jail time ( don’t get me started on child support to spouses that make twice your salary and the divorce says her income should be calculated but it never is by the female dominated enforcement folks, and don’t tell me “it is for the children” when I’m paying “support” after both children are out of the house, working and adults ).  I love the culture, and if it really mattered to me I still have the township mobile home lot in eastern Texas, but more or less arriving where I am seems to have worked out to my advantage.  Back there I have two million city dwellers an hours drive away and a vast majority of them are unemployed hostile racist ghetto mobs.  Do I regret not making payments on land in another spot in the South?  Well, yes and no.  Yes, because there is fertile soil and rain there, but no because living there is going to be challenging.  Not only the hostiles in your midst, but tens of millions of douche bag Yankees ( with apologies to any minion who was unfortunate enough to live there-I feel the same way about Californians and I was born and raised there ) waiting with baited breath to descend upon the South like locusts as soon as their winter heat is seriously interrupted ( just like Whites believe they have a right to move to Hawaii, Yankees seem to regard the South as “theirs”, spoils of war ).

*

Don’t get me wrong.  Almost every location has both very good points and very bad ( some are more tilted one way or another ) and no one spot is perfect ( I won’t start, Idaho Homesteader [smiley face] ).  The South has a lot going for it, such as a culture that isn’t 100% in the 21st century ( that is a good thing ).  But I feel, personally-and your mileage may vary, that the population issue makes it too dangerous.  The Second Civil War ( which may or may not come prior to other areas seeking independence-in this instance I’m speaking of the rebirth of the Confederacy ) will most certainly see the South victorious this time around as long as they wait long enough for the feds to lose enough energy supply, but the road to that victory will most likely see racial wars within the area, Southern cities nuked by the North, mass starvation as the southern population shrinks back down to what the land will support organically and decentralized, guerrilla warfare between cultural Southerners and Southerners By Immigration, new diseases both old but reborn and newly arrived from the tropics, and a host of other issues.  Here in the desert West, things will be just as difficult but not as multifaceted.  We will depopulate much faster due to ALL improvements since the indigenous Indians carbon fuel based ( not least too much dependence of too many folks on shrinking deep wells and disappearing snow packs ).  The West the Whites know is completely modern Industrial Age based and completely unsustainable.  If you recognize and plan for that, survival will still be precarious but not impossible, with the huge benefit of a lack of crowds.  I’m not overly fond of my location, not because it is the high desert in the middle of nowhere but because it isn’t MORE remote and denuded of population.  I’m on the right path, location wise.  I ended up here accidentally but I don’t believe it was a mistake picking this for a prepper location.

my biggest prepping mistake 2 of 4

MY BIGGEST PREPPING MISTAKE 2

Survivalists agonize over guns, something I understand but try not to encourage too much.  Guns are great, but they aren’t exactly a butt dildo your gay dude shops for with the perfect color a burning question in his mind, right after length and girth ( do colors matter?  Is the skin tone important, or are colors not seen in nature important?  Neon yellow all right?  See what I mean.  You are gay and so you don’t want to be That Guy and be prejudiced and discriminate against a mocha chocolate color, but you are also worried what your dates think.  Are you normally the inserter or the insertee?  The husband or the wife?  If you are supposed to be macho, bright colors are out.  This crap can obviously get complicated ).  While you should be selecting the proper tool according to ammunition considerations ( the main article in the January 2016 issue of Malthusian Survivalist Newsletter ), most folks just look at their middle eastern urban combat hero’s and buy the same gun because it is cool and wicked bad ass, yo!  I’ll admit I occasionally lust after thirty caliber battle rifles of Spanish/German design ( in American clone variety for budgetary reasons ), and it would be little trouble to buy my first one with excess savings on hand ( the ammo now, that would be an ongoing several paycheck pillagings to acquire in a relative hurry ).  But rather than give me a warm and fuzzy feeling for being better protected, rather I would feel I wasted money, depleted my savings meant for unemployment, worried I had made a tactical blunder as with semi-auto I would NEVER have enough ammo and totally upend my life as I now needed to worry about buying duplicates ( at $700+ a pop ) and dozens and dozens of magazines and cases and cases of ammunition and scopes and scope mounts, worry about a bayonet, and in general worry hugely about nothing important.

*

I can’t say I made any mistakes with my arsenal.  Food now, perhaps I’ve blundered by not stockpiling enough.  Well, not really.  I know I don’t have enough protein, or excess heavy labor calories.  But really, how can you ever have enough?  At $1 a day, protein is just insanely expensive to stockpile.  And since you should try to NOT eat your stockpile as much as possible after the collapse ( you WILL have multiple year disasters with your livestock and farming ), I figure a bare bones stockpile isn’t a bad idea.  You should be forced into a renewable food supply as quickly as possible, and a heck of a good incentive to do so is insanely massive animal protein cravings ( so, yes, I’m saying not stocking a lot of dead animal flesh might be strategically advantageous ).  If your tribe of wheat gruel eaters gets enough of a hankering for a BBQ, they will have a fire lit under their asses to go raid some cattle.  I think my food stash, while far from ideal, is good enough where I don’t feel its sparseness is a mistake.  It was meant to keep one alive, and that is about it.

my biggest prepping mistake 1 of 4

MY BIGGEST PREPPING MISTAKE

A minion suggested that I write this article and I thought it was a good idea.  Being perfect, and on the VERY short approval list of Baby Jesus ( hint: so short it is about one person long ), if I could actually make a mistake then the reasoning went that everyone else, being far less worthy and embarrassed by that, would chime in with their mistakes and we would all have a rollicking good time.  Well, perhaps not all fun and games and free unicorn rides, but at least it would be educational because if you can’t identify a problem you certainly won’t be able to fix the issue.  I had to put quite a bit of effort into thinking where I had screwed up, because all kidding aside I think I’ve done a relatively bang-up job on this survivalist thing.  Not because I’m smarter than most but because I am blessed and/or cursed with an overly analytical brain and I obsess about this crap.  I’ve fallen far short of where I know I should be, which will fall under my mistake when I reveal it after the proper amount of suspense, but I’ve also accidentally fallen into a pile of roses more often than not and all things considered I’m relatively well positioned.  Plus, after a certain number of years of this planet you just stop really caring as much.  Even if I’m not in the perfect place prepper wise, I call it good enough.  If it kills me, as long as I can take out some of the humpers with me I’ll be content.  No one lives forever, and contrary to the legions of zombies you see in Arizona and Florida, no one should want to live forever.  I reserve the right to change my mind of course, but I see little quality of life as I’m busy filling up an adult size diaper trying to remember if I’ve forgotten if I’ve already lost my mind to dementia or not.

*

I can’t say I’m disappointed in my career or my relationships.  Being of the Redneck Survivalist variety, I don’t need all that much money for preps.  I’ve never really had any regrets I’m lacking anything because of low wages.  As a minion observed, when you have extra you only see more expensive solutions.  I’m not so nice, so I say that Yuppie Scum are just buying peacock feathers, but I see his point.  When you have more your entry price point is higher, even as your percentage of budget to preps is the same or smaller ( probably smaller as you have middle class individuals and institutions to support ).  If you have a hundred to spend you buy bare minimum.  If it is a thousand, suddenly your bare minimum costs four times as much.  There is nothing I lust after ( books aside, obviously ) I can’t afford with just a little bit of savings, even earning ten grand a year, but luckily I don’t even lust after all that.  When you see the short term nature of all of today’s luxuries, suddenly it doesn’t seem all that important to bust your ass getting them.  As for relationships, it’s been a long rocky road but I figure even if it would have been nice to start a decade or so ago, at least I get to spend the last years with someone I care about ( and visa versa ).  And it doesn’t matter she isn’t a prepper, as I’m already squared away there.  I got lucky in the collapse timing and all the previous females actively working against me in preps didn’t negatively impact me.  So, I call no mistakes job or relationship wise.

business as usual good for business 2 of 2

BUSINESS AS USUAL GOOD FOR BUSINESS part 2
*
Yeh, yeh, merry friggin Christmas!  A humping happy new friggin year.  Bah!  Humbug!
*
If you look all around you on a scale smaller than empire, you can easily see examples of how True Believers can extend and protect the life of a failing organization.  How cheerleading by the players themselves ( one imagines football players, being large lumbering Neanderthals incapable of thought [ “we went out there and gave 110%!” ] need a separate body of cheerleaders as they are incapable of self direction.  The cheerleads are there to instruct the players [ “GO, team!” leads to the player thinking to themselves, “what was I doing?  Oh, okay, I’ll GO!” ] ) does indeed extend the shelf life of the organization.  Look at teachers.  I’ve had plenty and at least half or more were still  energetic enough to retain their initial enthusiasm to instruct the youth of the day.  I’ve had teachers so intent on mission they were eventually fired for failing to stay on the different official mission by instructing from textbooks only ( the best teachers, those that inspired me for life, connected the dots that the texts barely covered-and one can only imagine there are far fewer of those today ).  I think teachers as a whole, not the aged mentally and spiritually or the administrators but the actual teachers, are a dedicated and inspiring bunch.  Yet look at the system they are forced to work in.  Money goes to everything BUT student instruction ( football players and stadiums and attendance and fundraising ) while testing is done not to ascertain learning but to give the FedGov statistics to use to pretend our country is not 109th in math or 97th in science globally ( some Bush Bitch walking barefoot through Muslim terrorist country to go to a school with a thatched roof does better, or would do better if not for gaming the tests we do, on her scores than most of our students in affluent neighborhoods getting thousands of dollars per student in their schools do ).

*

That our schools are not mere warehouses for juvenile delinquents more than what they already are is testament to the hard work of the teachers there.  The work of training the students isn’t hard, they are natural sponges up to a certain point, but the hard work is done fighting their own organization to get any teaching done in the first place.  Or, look at the military.  Do you think the officers running the place are doing anything other than hindering anything getting done?  In peacetime the lower ranks, primarily junior NCO’s, are essentially getting the necessary work done DESPITE orders to the contrary, and usually at the expense of a career as the price they pay is being pressured out for unconformity.  In wartime, their lives are on the line as those in charge do everything wrong keeping them alive.

*

The teachers that teach despite hindrances and the leaders that lead despite contrary orders are the ones getting results, but they don’t advance the survivability of the organization.  Those teachers and sergeants that give in and drink the Kool-Aid, and then still have some drive and energy from their idealistic days, drive the organization.  Once the insane work load  batters them down they take their place alongside the short-timers nearing retirement as being carried by newer blood, but still have enough evangelical fever left to push the new blood to the desired direction.  Newcomers who fight the system can leave or adapt to groupthink.  Those older members unit to drive out the non-adaptors, which is their primary job as it requires less energy and is suited to their skills they’ve learned surviving in place over the years.  The young converts have the energy to supervise the new arrivals whose job it is to do all the work before either burnout or conversion.  Nothing is actually done by the converts except keeping the organization in place, but just enough real work is done by the new arrivals to justify the entire system to outsiders.  Job security ensures organizational survival.

business as usual good for business 1 of 2

BUSINESS AS USUAL GOOD FOR BUSINESS

Last week Club Orlov ran an article where he mentioned George Orwell talking about the demise of empire.  It behooved the system to hire leaders who had no idea the system was crashing.  If they knew, they wouldn’t work so hard to keep it going ( one presumes that instead they would deplete the treasury and take a permanent vacation on a better former coaling station turned Caribbean resort.  Or perhaps it used to be a sugar plantation.  No matter, they didn’t need to know history as much as successful embezzlement ).  This is an excellent point, but I would like to add to that.  Believing the structure to be sound, why would they work so hard to keep it going ( taking on all that extra work needed to save a crashing system, what they believe is just needless extra work )?  Job security, of course.  Even today, with no debtors prisons and your choice of bitches or ho’s to replace a wife that leaves you, job security is very important.  We practically sell our souls for it ( “drinking the Kool-Aid” is a literal expression.  We are committing suicide of the soul when we sell it to the highest bidder, chanting at the required alter of belief for a few pieces of silver.  It is also about as embarrassing as leaving a bloated corpse in the jungle to be photographed and displayed in the Violence Porn media for the addicted masses eating their corn syrup rations waiting for their entertainment ).  We buy into lies and fantasies for job security, and rationally choose to ignore any hint of structural rot so as to make our job of cheerleaders easier.  Not only is it too hard to put much effort into fixing what could have been easily avoidable problems, your co-workers will smell the dishonesty on you as you insincerely fake enthusiasm at designing workarounds for said issues.

*

Far easier to drink the Kool-Aid then live the duality.  Of course, some of us are pretty good at taking the Kings Coin in exchange for loyalty, having no issue with the underlying problems.  Those are true mercenaries.  But most of us have been indoctrinated into centralized nation state patriotism, and it just seems natural for the majority to duplicate that to a degree on the employment scale.  So, job security isn’t even loyalty in exchange for a paycheck but a validation of a new, compensated, belief system.  Life without goals and accomplishments and validity is empty and meaningless and most of us dedicate ourselves to work in exchange for a better life.  Our employees don’t just get clocked labor but pretty much mindless happy drones ( mindless despite how intelligent we otherwise are ).  That is what is so hard to fake, so naturally most dysfunctional systems are full of people who have subconsciously choose to wear blinders to the problems inherent in the organization.  It isn’t stupidity or love of money as much as it is that old friend of ours tribal identity.  Which is why reformers never reform as much as use a façade of reform as the excuse to consolidate group think, demand more work and more loyalty ( within a functioning system, not one in revolution or revolt ).  More of the same that works in ignoring the problems reformers allegedly were to fix.

OPEC fracks us 3 of 3

OPEC FRACKS US 3

Now we come to the myth that fracking was a game changer.  All kinds of people you would normally have thought of as being smart, or at least not stupid, completely showed their asses during the jingoistic orgy of empire pimping.  “YEH!  Yeh, bitches!  USA, USA!!  We’ve got more oil than you!  Nana nana boo boo!”.  Of course, it really isn’t all that important to them that the country at large has any energy.  The flag waving fervor is part of the carnie act to get the country cousins parting with their money.  As long as they themselves, the corporate store shrills gymnastically waving the ad placard to get the workers inside to spend the company script, are paid well and can live a life of comfort, they could care less if the serfs had a bowl for their gruel or anything to put in it other than the thin fecal smear from the owners underwear.  The empire apologists probably don’t even care if their shtick has any basis in reality.  Patriotism,  Democrats verses Republicans, Lincoln being a hero-all the hype is just part of the dog and pony show.  I’d even imagine they all don’t have the good graces to be embarrassed.  But here is my point.  The “OPEC targets fracking” myth is just a continuation of the Fracking Matters myth.  One and the same.

*

Because what we are really being told is that Fracking Still Matters.  We are STILL the Thousand Year American Reich.  As soon as we square away these pesky Little Brown People interfering with OUR oil, be it under Saudi sands or the Rocky Mountains chock full of a petroleum liquid cream center, America will rise up once again, dust itself off and it is back to Kunstler Happy Motoring and McMansion flipping, an end to all financial problems and a return of the tooth fairy riding to the rescue on a unicorn on a rainbow.  Chant mindlessly after me- USA! USA! ( and before some dumbass says “love it or leave it”, I’m not the one who is confusing the government with the country ).  Fracking was never but a temporary solution replacing expensive Gulf Of Mexico oil that was running out with even more expensive dry land oil that ran out ten times faster.  Put yourself in my shoes.  If I was spouting off about my fantasy of being rich and famous and fabulously hung like a mule, you would laugh uproariously at me.  I am merely laughing at YOUR improbable fantasy.

*

And isn’t it just a tiny bit curious how about the time the fracking industry sees its easily prophesied crash in production actually happening, the Evil OPEC myth comes along?  How convenient is that?  Sure, they say, fracking oil is a little more expensive, but look at all the American jobs provided.  Look at all that long sought after energy independence.  Boy, howdy!  And now those evil OPEC bitches have undercut our production price ( something no American company ever, never ever did!  Honest Injun! ) and woe unto us.  You see, right?  Plenty of fracking oil to be had!  As soon as the price goes back up, never ending frack oil production ( good Christ, please tell me you understood that was all sarcasm ).

*

And who is supposed to be forgetting, after our entire lifetimes of listening to every swinging cheese dingus out there bitch and moan about a ten cent rise in gasoline being the satanic profiteering of Rockefeller’s descendents,  that cheap oil was good and that expensive oil is bad?  Nice mid-game rule change.  And folks bought into it.  There really is no respect for the proletariat.

OPEC fracks us 2 of 3

OPEC FRACKS US part 2
*
Responsible party who sent the book "Scatter, Adapt and Remember", I received in Monday's mail.  While the second half looks WAY too optimistic and hopeful, I love the look of the first half's history of near extinction events.  Many, profound and embarrassingly deep thanks!!
*
Continuing to poo-pah the theory that the Saudi’s are dropping their oil price to destroy the US fracking industry, today we’ll start off talking about how low oil prices are the last thing the Kingdom needs right now.  When you live in a sandbox, one that barely supports a couple of camels, and you have lots of oil, naturally petroleum extraction is going to be about 100% of your economic revenue.  For one thing, you turn around and buy food from some place that can actually grow the stuff.  You know, because they have water and soil ( rather than sand and oil ).  And there is a lot more food to buy as the population of largely unemployed youth, who are also not going to be thrown out of the welfare line to leave them to revolt, have a lot of time to breed like rabbits.  Hey, when God says “have more babies to smite the infidels”, you don’t argue with him just because the nearest Taco Bell is a few thousand miles away.

*

A growing population on welfare, with a growing demand for imported food, requires MORE money over time, not less.  Higher oil prices literally keep the heads sitting atop the rulers shoulders.  Then there is the issue of the Saudi’s main oil field getting so long on the tooth the seawater cut was in the ninety percentile.  And that was ten years ago.  At the time, a mad orgy of drilling went to the offshore fields.  One could reasonably assume, as reasonable as it is to assume in the face of a secretive government admitting to no production declines and even lying about all figures, that it is, today, taking far more energy and money to keep their production figure up as far as they are.  How does that work with declining oil prices?  Please hold off reaching for your MENSA cards in your wallets as I state the obvious.  It don’t, Einstein.

*

Now, what if at the same time you had to buy more food to feed more Muslin baby factories, AND your cost of extracting your revenue stream was increasing, you ALSO had a couple of regional wars going on.  Instead of just slowly buying military arms, you were in the process of having them get blown up or wore down and even if you didn’t replace much of anything except ammunition ( and the fuel you resupplied which was a further drain on your revenue as oil used is oil not sold ), war is still not exactly cheap.  Hell, even if the war was just neighborhood occupation, that crap doesn’t come free in a box of Kosher Sheep Eyeballs.  Dead Sheiks still have to be earned and spent, yo!

*

In short, even assuming you believe free money could be used to subsidize our fracking industry at $100 a barrel market price but for some strange reason you couldn’t do that when that price fell to $50, how can you believe the Saudi’s can afford to intentionally destabilize their country in a bidding war?  More next article.

OPEC fracks us 1 of 3

OPEC FRACKS US
*
Note: I don't know about you'all but I'm having a heck of a time typing out a comment.  My broadband connection is fine for games and Netflix so I'm assuming the fault lies with Blogger.  Typing is slow and letters are dropped.  I took to using my WP and cutting and pasting into the comment box.  Sorry if this is ailing you.

We are bombarded daily with theories writ large across the InterWeb, largely based on cranial-rectal inversion syndrome ( CRIS ).  Most of them you can just ignore as they are obviously written by someone with a journalism degree from National Enquirer Magazine University.  Some gain traction only because their authors were accredited by a sanctioned education institution which is obvious nonsense but most rational people understand the powers that be have a vested interest in its dissemination and so it does little good to argue against it (  examples, such as Keynesian economics, growth paradigm, America still being a Republic or ever being a democracy, astound and delight a few out there ).   Some seem to be a combination, a CRIS theory suddenly appearing across the whole landscape and seemingly believed by one and all.  One which makes my gums bleed every time I run across it is the silly notion that Saudi Arabia, and hence OPEC, are deliberately jacking the cost of oil downward in order to destroy the US fracking industry.

*

As we just discussed, the global economies have finally slowed down enough, despite years of central bank digital cash infusion, that China is drastically slowing down in its export sector which is accounting for every swinging cheese dingus and his brother out there needing to use LESS oil and hence the price is dropping.  Unemployment met with demand destruction and had a mutant evil baby called global economic collapse.  But, as we shall discuss, people that talk about the Growth Paradigm ending are pretty much like those folks who wouldn’t say “crap” if their mouth was full of the substance.  Rather, we get fantasy and excuses and everything in the book of alibi’s thrown at the issue in a vain attempt to evade slaughtering ones sacred cow.  The Saudi Manipulation theory ignores quite a few variables.  Such as, the frackers were probably subsidized from the start.  The Saudi’s wouldn’t intentionally cut revenue as their expenses were rising.  Fracking was never enough of a challenge to conventional petroleum anyway.  This was an obvious and embarrassing attempt to cover up the dramatic end of The Thousand Year Reich Of American Energy Independence.  This theory is a nice defense of Infinite Growth.  And last, how is it that after a hundred years, suddenly cheap oil is bad for the economy?

*

Taking the first point, subsidized fracking, I’m not sure why this is hard to believe after witnessing the fiasco of the ethanol program.  Not being an accountant, nor playing one on television, I haven’t delved into tax credits or the like so I’m not stating with certainty that the government did indeed artificially create this sector.  Given that the entire energy sector receives such favors as a way to buy off the masses with cheaper energy I’d actually wager a slight bit of coin on it, but at this point it is a supposition.  I’m also of the firm belief that our banking establishment had a hand in subsidizing the industry, given the role increasing energy has in  growing the economy.  In effect, made up pretend money for real energy ( but, again, a supposition ).  Without knowing all the details I still believe subsidization is a pretty darn good bet.

pious profits

PIOUS PROFITS

When you comment on an article, I merely ask a few things of you.  Don’t drop the N Bomb ( we’re a high class place here ) and don’t libel others.  Libel is when you say something like “Mr. X molests mules behind his stable”.  It isn’t “I don’t like Mr. X, he is a meany”.  However, because of lawyers, one is always better off just assuming some stupid prick is going to sue you for libel even if you just called him harmless names.  It is still safe, for now, to call someone out for being full of crap, but I think it is best to avoid names if at all possible to avoid issues.  So, I’m writing this article without naming names and I expect you to do the same if you submit a comment on it ( also, to be fair, my displeasure is with a group in general, not anyone specific ).

*

I used to make $100 a month ( no more than every other month ) with ads on my blog, and another $150 to $250 from Amazon commissions ( book sales have always been pathetic at $5-$20 a month ), before the economy took a large stinky.  This doubled my take home pay ( most of my “real” job income went to paying taxes and child support ) and was invaluable to surviving financially.  Of course, some jag-off always comes along to screw up a good thing and while my landlord was “inflation indexing” rent 10% upwards a year, the bankers were crushing the economy for fun and profit.  Nowadays, I rarely clear $100 from all sources of writing income.  I’ve come to be at peace with this.  As long as I can buy books from my writing efforts I’ll continue to labor at such.  Yet, I’m sure very few of my fellow survival blog writers are as philosophical in dismissing profits ( I could name one particular nicer older gentleman who refuses profits altogether, but again, no names.  Bad or good ).  They seem to be fighting tooth and nail to increase their income.

*

Judging from the common trend, ads are crowding out content even as content goes from poor to horrendous.  As more and more desperate morons wake up to our future reality, trying to search for advice on prepping, the quality of that advice is terrible.  Mom and Pop survival sites are duplicating corporate America is offering substandard products at increased prices ( you never get free.  “Free” means you suffer through ads.  Hell, sometimes you paid to read the ads, such as Shotgun News [ prior to it pimping out with articles ] or American Survival Guide whose articles were so lame and forgettable you were really just reading the magazine for the advertisements, a situation nearly as bad as buying a mobile home and renting a lot for it [ delivering the worst of both worlds ] ).

*

I’ve written on this before, never one to be above trashing a competitor to advance my own cause ( although since I never steal anyone’s site traffic I’m not sure what gets served other than my smoldering hate and discontent ), and I don’t know if I have an actual different point this time.  But from time to time this gets me atwitter, when I once again discover a new low in a new site.   All these Jesus genuflecting pious puffed up experts pretending to enrich their readers and only being here to help are serving up mostly worthless advice masquerading as lifesaving tips, yet believe their own hype.  If they represent the holiest of the holy, those standing for libertarianism and a beacon for the fight against Federal tyranny, what can we expect from others less scrupulous.  In other words, with friends and spiritual leaders such as these, who needs enemies?  This is as good as it gets?  Profits are this important?  Mammon their only one true God?

*

These are the kind of people who are strangely quiet as any citizen is allowed to be detained indefinitely without a trial yet squawk and holler if their favorite plastic carbines might appear on a New Clinton Ban list.  While I agree with them that my personal investment in something usually does indeed exceed the financial value of a lot of fellow human beings out there, I’m not clutching the bible as I place those inanimate objects higher on my hierarchy of value, either.  The good news is that almost 99% of the “preppers” out there trained on this trash will be quickly killed off before you arrive on scene, diminishing the competition.  The bad news is trying to find a suitable prepping partner/group.
