militarized police 2 of 2

MILITARIZED POLICE 2
When you have a four foot tall fence, you keep out MOST trespassers.  When you have a flimsy lock on the door, MOST people will not break in ( yes, I understand this is NOT as true as it once was, as more citizens arm themselves and that dampens violent crime but channels criminals into property crime.  But it is still MOSTLY true ).  The fence and the lock keep honest people honest.  It is the same principle with law enforcement.  They are not there to stop criminals.  They can’t.  They are there to keep more people from BECOMING criminals.
*
Without the police, crime would increase.  Of course, more police do not lower crime.  And since it is getter more and more expensive to field police, it is probably a good thing more of them being bureaucrats and less street patrols doesn’t hurt much.  The yes, the overpaid vice pigs ( anti-prostitution or anti-drug ) are worthless and get more funding, cutting into effective policing, but again, that is a system wide problem.  A lot of local police activity is orchestrated by the Federales, so place the blame where it belongs.  You pay taxes to the State Police to enforcing fed speeding laws.
*
But let us focus on simply enforcing the peace ( most laws are NOT enforced, just the ones returning the most profit.  So mostly the police presence itself MOSTLY keeps the peace.  Mostly.  It is relative.  Keep in mind that ALL organizations with monopolies are overpriced and underperforming today.  The Po-Po are no different ).  The amount of crime is dependent on socio-economic factors, not the levels of law enforcement.  In a homogenous culture with a decent economy, the people mostly police themselves with LEO’s only needed as a Final Arbitrator Enforcer.
*
In a crappy economy with all sectors of society clashing, a society in decline, even the National Guard constantly patrolling will make little difference in crime.  Curfews and liberal levels of allowed force will not make much difference ( look how much crime takes place in the totally controlled atmospheres of prisons ).  The Macro Trend is bad.  Police are increasingly out of control, as is crime.  One is related to another.  Higher concentrations of people are far more dangerous NOW, not just as the Lights Go Out.  The police naturally are far more agitated and violent.  You would be too.
*
And you cannot say, “well, that is their job” and expect them to benignly accept far higher levels of risk.  How often do you try to do other peoples jobs?  Do you Monday Morning Quarterback the waitress in the restaurant?  “Why is she taking so long?  Why isn’t she hurrying more?” and etcetera.  Do you know HOW she does her job?  If not, how can you judge what is a good or a bad performance?  It is the same with the police.  If you don’t know how they do their jobs, how can you judge?  Think about it.
*
How many people get lippy with the police? “I gots my rights!”.  People seem to confuse the police with lawyers and judges.  The police don’t make the bullcrap laws, they enforce them.  Granted, a lot are far too rigorous enforcing them, but every organization, from High School to the corporate offices, are full of incompetent idiots.  Do you hate ALL your teachers because only a few actually taught you anything?  Of course not.  Or, you hate the SYSTEM that forced you to go to school, not the actual teachers that were trying to do some good.
*
Don’t hate the phone operator because that companies CEO dry humped you on the product. Habeeb wasn’t responsible for quality control.  The waitress is not at fault when the owner won’t hire enough cooks.  And cops?  They must perform threat assessments.  That is a large part of their job.  If you come across as a screaming yelling wrongfully treated banshee, you will illicit zero sympathy.  Rather, the officer will respond with force.  They have no choice.  You might think it is a simple conflict over power ( “respect my a-thor-i-ti!” ), and you would be correct.  But for the wrong reason.
*
Look at your life’s Chain Of Command.  The wife is in charge.  If you cede ANY power to the kids, anarchy trumps.  The boss is in charge.  If you refuse to do his stupid crap that makes things worse, you are no longer in that chain of command.  The police are there to enforce the chain of command, to make sure you do the stupid crap that will make things worse.  It doesn’t matter WHAT the stupid crap is.  It doesn’t matter if the wife should pick up her own mess, she is in charge and if she says “pick up my crap”, that is what you do.
*
With the police, as with the wife or the boss, you are supposed to do what you are told.  Period.  When you passively aggressively show signs of NOT doing as you are told, you are treated as if you had actually refused.  That is how my 70 something year old 100 pound stepmother landed on top of a coffee table with severe flesh injuries on one arm.  She got lippy.  And you know, I felt absolutely no sympathy.  Some young musclehead buck weighing 200 pounds planted her ass after she refused to comply.
*
Was a little old grandma a threat?  Of course not.  The threat is that if you do NOT enforce compliance, someone down the road will THEN become a threat ( the nurse that treated my stepmom was angry over the level of force.  Yet, she would fire instantly anyone screwing up  medications for a patient, as that behavior could not be tolerated as a safety risk.  She didn’t see the irony, I imagine ).  Your wife and your boss OVER compensate when you refuse to comply.  So do the police.  Is a SWAT raid over a dozen unpaid parking tickets excessive?  Of course it is.  But that is not the point.  The point is COMPLIENCE.
*
Why are cops so laid back in rural counties?  Why are large urban area cops such dicks?  Population density and integration into the community, or lack thereof.  When a cop knows everyone, he knows who is trouble and who is not. He doesn’t have to treat everyone as a stranger who is an unknown risk.  That used to be why beat cops on foot assigned to one area were so effective even in the big city, or why you used to be required to live in the area you patrolled.  And cops who are dicks when they don’t have to be?
*
There will always be cops like that.  Because they were not adequately screened before hiring.  They lack confidence and hence overcompensate.  You can’t “stand on your rights”.  You can only comply and act humble and subservient.  If you don’t, well, I guess I won’t feel too sorry for you after you get face planted on something hard, a complete shift worth of cops dogpiling you.  If lucky, you are ONLY taz’ed.  They are a tribe, and they rely on each other for protection.  Of COURSE they side with each other.  Duh.  Talk about lack of situational awareness.

  1. You might find some value in this site Jim. Unlike yourself, he does not advocate against vehicle ownership. But to be fair, he’s also wheelchair bound, so his transportation options are somewhat limited. He does advocate home ownership over renting, and I’m not sure if that’s such a good idea.

And the big take away (I suppose you could probably skip over this section :D )

“This sounds stupid but I am serious! I can live massively cheaper as a single guy, than if I was permanently repairing damage done by more people, and the expense that women and kids cause. A kid is the single biggest expense that most people ever have.  And we thought women were expensive. Women spend (waste) mountains of money on frivolous pointless things that are forgotten ten minutes later. Expensive ornaments, make up, hair styling, holidays, frilly bed/curtain/other stuff... Get one you will see!”

  2. Yep, a no shit summation. Living in society and interacting requires adherence to what that society established as rules, order, laws. If one doesn't like it, vote or leave. Help your cause by not being a douchebag. Obey the laws (most or all are not that hard) behave properly in public, be clean and well dressed with good manners. That law and order is double edged. It keeps order and function on your behalf as well. The chaos without means you have no property rights, etc. And yes tough guy, you will be victimized bigly by bad asses out there tougher and more numerous than you. P.s. that claude dallas is not a folk hero, choose sides more wisely, playing for wrong team or side can be lethal.

    1. No one knows half the laws, even judges or lawyers. You cannot know or obey them. But if you APPEAR to be obeying them, and offer NO threat, if you don't threaten a power authorities job security, 99 times out of a hundred you will be left alone.

  3. You never argue with a cop! You wait until you get into the courtroom. Never forget that they have life or death authority and as the rancher that got killed after shooting his own bull the cops walk just because they are cops!

    1. They walk, else the entire compliance system is weakened. Unless you go up an extra floor to NOT your apartment and kill a neighbor who pissed you off. Then, PERHAPS, you are the token cop thrown to the justice system. Hey, it happens once a generation. Enjoy it while you can.

  4. "They are there to keep more people from BECOMING criminals."

    I've seen this comment elsewhere.
In the absence of law enforcement YOU will suddenly start committing crimes?

The answer is always the same, "No, I won't, but OTHER people will." It's always those mysterious other people that do all the bad things.

When potential criminals fear getting their heads blown off they will stop violating the rights of others.

Cops cannot be a deterrent because they show up after the crime has been done. Criminals fear the potential victim will kill them. The cities have lots of cops and very few people have guns so there is lots of crimes. Out in the country there are very few cops and everybody is armed and there are very few criminals. Most people do not want to get killed and criminals are no exception.

    1. Without cops, my ex-wife never would have lived to see my kids reach puberty. Without cops, I would have ambushed the crackhead pricks stealing from the B-POD. I'll tell anyone listening straight up, only my fear of being jailed keeps the last ex-boss alive. I love you bro, but you live in a strange land.

    2. My next younger brother was a lifelong criminal from about the age of 10 until he died about 15 years ago in San Diego probably from something originating with extreme meth use.

I hadn't seen him for at least 10 years prior. He couldn't keep his hands off other people stuff. Never violent. He had been in jail hundreds of times, released instantly almost always, did a 5 year stretch in Raiford, FL. At age 17 (1973) he bragged to me that he had been in the Lee County (Fort Myers, Florida) jail 37 times. He had committed thousands of crimes that he was never held accountable for. He had 2 friends, that I also knew, that could tell the same story. Don't mistake crimes of passion with crimes in general. Cops have never been a deterrent to at least 99% of all criminal activity in the US.

In the absence of gov't and the cops it hires, sane people will not suddenly go insane and start committing crimes. Private security firms will crop up that are far more efficient than gov't lazy psychopaths that will put the fear of satan in potential criminals instantly.

In the book, "More Guns, Less Crimes", Professor John Lott cites unbelievable statistics regarding the number of crimes committed that are never solved and are never reported by the media. If anyone kills my wife they will never make it to the courthouse and I don't matter because at that point my life will be over anyway. I think the best that can be said about locks and cops are that they deter honest people, of which there seems to be less of each passing day, and everybody else gets to do what they want. Strange? Yes. And we both live in that world.

One last thing. Back about 1994 that brother I mentioned stole a car stereo equalizer from Walmart and got caught and was jailed. He never had a drivers license in his life and had no ID on him and when the law asked him who he was he told them MY name. They ran a check on ME and found I was clean and released him on his own recognizance with a court day a couple months away. Come court day he never showed and a bench warrant was issued on ME. A deputy showed up at my office and arrested me and after I was fingerprinted they compared my fingerprints with the ones of the person they had previously arrested and they did not match and I was released. However, my good name was further sullied as it was now in my brothers criminal records as one of his alias's. BTW, it cost me $10k to have an attorney sort all of this out. My brother did 90 days in jail and was released. My record was damaged, walmart lost most, but the justice system and the lawyer made out like bandits. Now tell me who the real criminals are? I have a few similar stories of intense personal despair pertaining to gov't, from a person that has spent a lifetime trying to maintain a low profile and keeping my nose clean. I have sound reasons for despising everything gov't and will never accept it.

Yes. Having, rearing, feeding, providing well for 3 children did cost hundreds of thousands of dollar over, now, 26 years. But no regrets. (Wife? yeah, different. But still). That stipulated: I know what I am spending on, now, going forward. Better late than never :-)

  6. Kids are cheap. They CAN be expensive, if you let them. Just don't let them. College? They can test out most credits. A car? If a bike is good enough for me...Clothes? Thrift stores, with home schooling to reduce peer pressure to wear designer labels. Plus, all your neighbors and their friends will chip in with free hand-me downs in pity. Where are my frugal peeps here?
