Yesterday, I questioned the assumption you would even get caught being evil.  And if you were caught, it might have come about in the new more simplistic justice system ( necessitated by a much smaller governing body ) that you aren’t even guilty.  But let’s just assume that you went into a berserker rage during the die-off and hosed down children and women indiscriminately.  You thought you were justified because food was short and more mouths mean the survivors died quicker, but let’s just say half the town survived and they were all Yuppie Scum liberal asswhores and they don’t understand biology.  And let’s assume a court is formed and you are judged by your actions.

I personally think that pragmatism will be the newly celebrated default mental state, but obviously it would be silly of granting your peers the assumption of rational thought.  Most folks are ignorant twats and you can never ever never go wrong assuming they will take every opportunity to show how flipping retarded they are.  It is a very good idea to assume that all your fellow men will act on their idiocy.  The first assumption debunking the Apocalypse Karma Myth was that you had to be caught for the acts of debauchery during the die-off to be illegal.  If you are caught, you cannot think you’ll be excused for your crimes, so by necessity, it behooves you to kill all of the right people and none of the wrong ones.

Murder isn’t illegal, even if you are caught, IF you’ve killed the right kind of people.  If you were in Vietnam and while slaughtering innocent farm villagers you kept a young and tasty morsel of the feminine persuasion to spend the night with, then killed her the next morning, if the Good Of The Service dictated the incident be shoved under the rug, you’d have gotten away with that rather uncivilized behavior.  If you had kidnapped, raped and killed a White military nurse, or a Vietnamese nun perhaps, you’d be looking at the death penalty.  The act wasn’t illegal as much as who you acted upon.

And don’t stand there all open mouthed looking at me shocked and dismayed.  Hypocrisy is primarily carried out by your government every day.  You cannot kill a criminal as a vigilante,  but they can kill a criminal in the electric chair.  You cannot steal money but they can tax you.  This is what happens when you control the monopoly on violence.  Philosophically you can despise the hypocrisy, but realistically in the world without unicorns someone needs that monopoly to keep order.  Murder is sanctioned and condoned by those in power.  If you are on the winning side that controls the monopoly on violence, you cannot be judged because no crime was committed.

Which is why, if you are caught doing something you shouldn’t during the apocalypse, like murder, theft, rape or the like, you not only make sure your victims were outside the tribe, you place yourself at the top of the hierarchy to avoid any blowback when who you thought was an outsider turned out to be a relative to a tribe member.  Oops!  Or, alternatively, if that isn’t possible because the tribe is too egalitarian, you become the only tribe member. Going hermit, you avoid any judgment because you are no longer in the jurisdiction of the victim.

Because let us be frank, shall we ( yes, let‘s, and don‘t call me Frank )?  Might Makes Right.  Crime is only a crime if you are on the losing side.  And as jurisdictions shrink, as power devolves to local, your chances of being on the winning side increase ( your odds of being the exploiter rather than the exploited are 1% right now.  After the collapse they become 50/50 after power goes tribal and equality becomes far better than now ).  If all manner of foul behavior is excused based on the victims tribal membership, if non-tribal members are not accorded the same rights as your own tribe, crimes are not illegal based on the victims membership status.

Lastly, the key question of “WHEN we recover?”.  There is an assumption of recovery, why?  Granted, stasis will be restored.  It always is.  Nature disallows a vacuum and power is

necessary to restore order and relative peace.  But what the recovery will NEVER be is a return to the current state.  We will stabilize, not recover.  The new power would more than likely not punish you unless it was in their interest to.  Yes, if they needed a patsy to appease the public, you would be in danger.  If everyone was against your actions, to consolidate power a politician could punish you.  Yet, this assumes you were already part of a tribe, the same one punishing you, and assumes you were NOT following orders.

But let’s just say you were a loner and did dirty deeds and then a nearby tribe, in order to consolidate and unify its members with the always needed Outside Enemy, decided to invade outside their territory, seize you as a Criminal Against Humanity, and punish you, as the Jews did after WWII ( totally ignoring sovereign nations borders-but since Israel has had its special Butt Buddy relationship with the western superpower since inception, it gets away with such.  They are your prime example of crimes being legal for those favored by the power elite ).  Sure, they could.  But guess what?  They would have attacked you and kangaroo courted your ass anyway, regardless of any war crimes.

That is what those in power do.  They choose victims not on merit but on opportunity.  You don’t have to be guilty to be punished or exploited.  If they need slaves, just you being alive is enough of a crime to be punished, for example.  The trick is not to be free of crime, it is to be strong enough to resist exploitation.  Which, I might add, is the strategy of every female anywhere ever.  Attach to a strong male to avoid rape, slavery or death.  The morality of the male has never been the issue, but his suitability to resist violence.  If you think otherwise, you just might be the captain of the unicorn cavalry.

Stop worrying about acting all nice and sweet during the die-off, a plainly flawed strategy, and worry about killing anyone that threatens you during AND afterwards.
