moronic morons

MORONIC MORONS
*
note: free books.  Normally shorter than what I'd recommend, but we are entering Beggars & Choosers territory here https://amzn.to/2sPhvZ3 .  Looks like YA, with a supernatural twist I also try to avoid recommending ( see above, however ) https://amzn.to/2sXhCB6 .  Another almost too short one, zombies https://amzn.to/2sPPwbN .
*
It is self evident that the majority of folks are morons.  And yet, when you think everyone else is a moron, you yourself are in effect proclaiming that you have won the election of Mayor Moron of Moronville.  If we go by the simple equation that stupid is as stupid does ( in other words, it doesn’t matter what you say, it matters how you act.  If you ACT like a moron, you are one ), most people are morons.  And when you think you aren’t a moron, but everyone else is, you are a moron.  Even most intelligent, high IQ, seemingly bright people could also be construed as being morons, even if they are Idiot Savants.

*

If you look at it through the lens that actions speak louder than words, most people act like morons.  This is so evident in the prepper community that I often wonder if the National Geographic show Doomsday Preppers isn’t closer to reality than generally assumed.  We all say to ourselves, self, these guys on the show are morons.  I’d never do X, Y, or Z like they do.  Then they go on a survivalist forum and act like complete morons as they pretend to be the sharpest knives in the drawer.

*

Everywhere, the writer of a prepper publication acts like they are the last word in preparedness and doesn’t allow opposing viewpoints ( to keep it “civil”, many times Bad Think is disallowed rather than just the harsher expressions of disapproval ), OR, the comments section is full of little more than He Said/She Said in the likeliest form going something like “you’re a moron”, “no, you’re a moron!”.  No, you’re BOTH morons.  You both think your view is right, refuse to hear the other one and resort to personal attacks to resolve the disagreement.

*

Not to sound too dogmatic, here.  That is just an illustration to point out how easy it is to show your ass and ACT like a moron.  In many cases of moronic behavior, it is little more than passions run amok rather than a reflection of intelligence or common sense.  Which is why I hate stifling expression except in extreme cases of vulgarity-emotions and tempers will flare.  If someone isn’t a moron, they let that be a teachable moment.  Don’t prove yourself Mayor.  One of the easiest things to do is to make the mistake of judging someone on the Internet.  Only easier is thinking you are falling in love after you get laid.

*

People think I’m a moron because I don’t believe in Gore Warming.  I believe people who ignore Peak Oil are morons.  Both views are wrong.  Gore Warming COULD be true, or Peak Oil COULD be false, but your dogmatic belief in it is NOT proof either way.  People are always confusing dogma with facts.  Yet, we read about Confirmation Bias and then, incredibly, see other people as guilty of it, but not ourselves.  Scientists are just as bad as homeless bums in holding a dogma, proving it to themselves, then thinking they are rational.

*

Humans as a species evolved bigger brains by cooking their food, so that less energy was diverted to digestion and towards brain function, then used that bigger brain to do ONE thing.  And, hint, it isn’t being smarter.  Most of your brain functions go towards social dynamics.  Getting along with a group for protection.  Their brain isn’t used to be smarter, it is used to be a useful member of a group.  And since groups aren’t tribes anymore but professions, nations or even hobbyists, you THINK you see people being morons whereas you should be seeing them as acting with group consensus.

*

Why else are 99% of scientists proclaiming Gore Warming as a fact?  True, a lot of it is the simple answer that grants fund Yes Men and Gore Warming is the approved paradigm.  Then preppers jump on the Gore Warming bandwagon as they proclaim all non-believers are moron, but look how smart they are because scientists are supposedly smart and if you agree with a scientist you are just as smart as they are!  Humping Morons, both of you.  All you are doing is forming a tribe and flinging feces at the opposing tribe.  You THINK you are smart, but you just put on the colors of your selected group.

*

These are the things I have to remind myself of, almost every day.  No, Jim, you aren’t as smart as you think you are.  You need to be nice and polite to as many people as possible with other views, because neither of you is any smarter than the other.  We have just selected a tribe and put on their uniform.  Both of us can “prove” how smart we are with selected data, which only proves we are not very smart.  When you think you can prove your side, it is time to look at the other side of the argument.  If you are honest, you can prove their case also.

*

No, I don’t mean to imply something like there are no absolutes.  Some reality is easy to verify, such as gravity, or earning the ire of a government official.  The mistake most of us make is taking a theoretical and assuming it is as easily observable as gravity.  But it never is.  So very few of us are NOT blinded by our own internal dialog usually formed more through laziness than true thought.  And, yes, that word is loaded with peril.  Every time someone hears “lazy”, they immediately assume poor character.  I use it here to denote “shortcut”.

*

The human mind is not such a terrible thing to waste ( I’m poling fun at the 70’s public service message for the United Negro Fund ).  We are far less smart than we think we are, and mostly that is due to shortcuts we use all the time.  We assume, we “bumper sticker” complex thoughts into shorter simplistic ones, etcetera.  This saves energy, and ours brains use enough excess energy as it is.  The brain works as it does for the simple reason that in times of calorie deficit, your brain still needs to function on an adequate level to survive.  A higher energy consumption brain would endanger its user when excess food wasn’t available.  It is a carburetor rather than a computer.  It doesn’t work anywhere close to what it could, but it always works enough.

*

Another shortcut our brain uses?  Assuming other people that don’t act like you are stupid.  Why?  That good ‘ol tribal thing.  It reinforces group cohesion.  What it doesn’t do is actually make you smart.  Beware your brain.  It isn’t your best buddy.  Remember how it treated you all your life?  It made you do some pretty stupid crap, from acting stupid around the opposite sex to acting like a idiot in a mob ( does “’Murica, love it or leave it” sound familiar? How about, “thank you for your service”?  Group think, mob think ).  Stop acting like an idiot and believing everything you tell yourself.

  1. Excellent.
Probably in your top 5 posts so far.
Cuts right down to the gristle.

Just yesterday I thought of you for a moment while reading on the Commander Zero site ( http://www.commanderzero.com/ ) and he mentioned how people get hung up on stuff like Peak Oil and can't get around it. That's a fairly decent site BTW.

I am not a teacher though some of the stuff I write can be learned, but I am a life long learner. Cept right after supper when my belly holds my brain for hostage for an hour or 2, or I'm waist deep in my ho. I'm in a sort of suspended animation during those periods. The rest of the time, even while sleeping, my 5 senses are on full time learning mode.

But yeah, I too victimize myself as you've described and run my yap when I shouldn't. It's probably mostly a reaction to what I perceive as idiocy and probably shouldn't be said. Guilty as charged. Thanks for the reminder. I'll strive to do better. See? I just learned something.

    1. Like most of my articles, it is inspired by tying together bits and pieces. I started thinking of this from the same CZ article you mentioned, threw in a bit of the grandstanding from the author of The Curse Of The High IQ ( I'm not high IQ, and yet carry most of his "triggers" to indicate I am, and so had a hard time buying his theories ), and then added the recent comments section debacle. Plus, I'm sure, lots of other sources I can't remember.

  2. During my early years as an newly minted engineer, I was blessed to have a mentor who was a brilliant but down-to-earth British Ph.D. physicist. He had practical, real-world experience that underpinned his substantial theoretical knowledge. (He was also incredibly patient, seeing as how he put up with me for several years.)
He always had some very pithy sayings that were gems of wisdom that seemed to fit each issue that came up. One of my favorites lines up with today's post - "The only time you should ever be absolutely sure is when you're absolutely sure you're wrong." (This from someone who I worked with for two years before I saw him make a mistake - yeah, he was REALLY good.)

He had another one that he liked to drop whenever someone insisted on doing something that he (correctly) advised them would end up badly. He would just look at the person, sigh, and say "All right. Reality will prevail" and walk away. Once I heard someone answer back, "And just what is reality?", to which he replied without missing a beat, "Reality is what's left after you've stopped believing in anything."

  3. Too true. The only real thing we can do is try to critically think, examine the other side of any issue as fairly as possible, and look for other alternatives to binary thinking (the abortion and gun-control debates are ones where I can find a third alternative, which makes me feel better about my choosen stance on both- The third alternative is what we SHOULD take, but until they are possible/get support, we have to choose the side that is most likely to reveal those alternatives...)

    1. But them we are blamed for "covering our asses by not taking a position" if we fail to react in binary fashion. You can't win with most folks.

    2. Yep, and I always have the third option pre-thought out before I engage in a debate on any binary issue. Name an issue, any issue, and I can come up with some sort of non-binary solution (even if it leans toward one of the binary options more than not, it will be distinct). The fact that everyone has to respond to the opposing binary option in a set way is rather telling and it happens almost every time a third solution is presented proving the lack of actual ongoing thought from the proponent. Try it sometime. Actually, come to think of it, I think you have and that might be part of why I read your poor grammar spelling etc drivel - it is at least a third alternative to the BAU vs Prep with Bunker and plant asparagus... (so far it has been mostly reasonable as a third alternative too)...

    3. The grammar is explainable as, somewhat, conversationalist. The spelling, I think I'm getting dyslexic and I'm not catching stuff on my 3rd and 4th re-read ( I actually catch my mind wandering as I'm supposed to be proofing ). As for drivel, I suppose that is the byproduct of opening the subconscious. Sorry, that is all the hay the needles are buried in :) Seriously, I know there is always room for improvement. Whether you get it or not...

  4. A friend of mine was really smart, both in practical knowledge and well educated. He really did have degrees from both Harvard and Yale. He would often end a lecture with "and that's how I see things from my current level of ignorance."

  5. New for 2018, high quality, lightweight, side-charging bolt- action AR. This is user-reversible left or right side pull. I'm thinking for a right-handed user the bolt on the left side would be best? That way you could keep your firing hand in position and not lose your sight picture while working the bolt quickly with the left in an emergency? I guess you could swap it back and forth until you figured out which was faster or more accurate under simulated stress.

    1. Good for them. Why did they dink it up with a shorter barrel, though?

      Delete
    2. Price? Longer barrel would cost more.
16" is the most common length in a carbine and it seems they were pushing the idea of how small it is, and can become, with the foldable stock.

I bought my free float hand guard from Troy and it was expensive considering it's just an extruded aluminum pipe, and it was kinda difficult to install.

A longer barrel is easy enough to install as long as you got the coin to buy it in the first place.

A point they seem to be pushing in their caption is the accuracy and I'm not seeing how a bolt is any more accurate than the standard configuration. Mine will stack em up in the same hole out to 100 yds.

One of the advantages of the center pull is that it is automatically ambidextrous. If your shooting hand is immobilized you can still function the gun with the other hand. I suppose with the SPR you can put another handle on the otherside. I tried to find a pik of the otherside but couldn't find it.

When I hit the range with my AR I only pull the charging handle back one time and that's it. The bolt locks to the rear at the end of each mag and I just hit the bolt release button to load the next one.

One more thing. The whole point of the floating hand guard, as the SPR has, is that it removes one pivot point from the shooting axis. The shooters hand does not touch the barrel in any way. The floating hand guard is attached to the upper receiver, NOT the barrel. Jim, remember how the front end of the M16 hand guards were connected to the barrel? But in the SPR the foldable stock adds another pivot point to the axis. So the folding stock nullifies the floating hand guard, or worse.

If I wanted a decent bolt I'd get a Remington 700 and be done with it. Which I have done. Mine has a 26" barrel. In .308. 50X fixed scope.

    3. I think their main selling point is to be available in those Gun Meanie states like CA, HI, NY. And the gun is $800, so I can't see it having a short barrel. Why you think a boltie with 30 rounds is better than one with eight or ten is beyond me. But everyone wants an AR, so there should be a market. What they don't say is if the upper/lower is standard AR. You could just mail order your semi upper to add to this bolt gun ( I would assume you couldn't buy a stripped lower legally? )-I'm guessing here.

Kalifornia has some strange gun laws. I’m the minion that wanted to get the North American Arms Black Widow, which is not on the roster of approved handguns. Yet the little mini revolver that NAA sells, which is ultra-concealable, and would be the ultimate assassins gun, is? Basically, if it’s not on the approved list in the roster below, you can’t get it, even used from out of state.

Gawd, I hope like fuck that cocksucker Newsom doesn’t get in! But I know that he’s going to, because that’s just how fucked up of a state CA is!

    5. Leave it to them to avoid "classes" of guns and go specific and micromanage thousands of different models. Much more work for a state employee getting lots of retirement to bankrupt the place faster. Reminds me of the list of exempt foods on the Twinkie Tax 25 years ago.

  6. Yes, I as well am a pretty bad moron. I am also a whole lot of of other things too according to others or by self assessment. I had to work with only a high school education and average literacy and interest. But as the saying goes: even a blind squirrel can get a nut. Despite being a moron, the house/property is paid for, stocked to the rafters, am personally armed to platoon strength, physically and mentally fit, not encumbered by wife-kids-or family drama. So fellow minions don't let your being a moron deter you from greatness. Live in your own world and take that different path despite the detractors.

    2. 6:46 shouldn’t be so hard on himself. After all, he crafted a decent sentence with proper spelling. That’s more than you can say for many of the graduates coming out of Amerika’s universities today. But chances are, they’re still paying for that “education” and likely will be for many years to come. I guess reading, writing, and arithmetic, took a backseat to “man made climate change”, “women’s studies”, and “campus pride index” (That’s learning to be sensitive to the needs of faggots. And here I thought that all that they needed was a good supply of Anal-Eze, and they were good to go :D ).

    3. I believe he was being a bit sarcastic. As for higher education, it isn't for education. It is for virtue signaling to get a corporate job. You have to prove you're enough of an idiot to sit through years of indoctrination, AND are silly enough to want to be a debt slave. The corporations want paycheck dependent soft heads willing to swallow horsecrap as reality.

Ahh. In hindsight I suppose that makes sense, and I didn’t pick up on it. I’ve never been tested, but I often wonder if I fall somewhere in the autism spectrum, since I tend to miss such clues, particularly in face to face encounters with others.
