business as usual good for business 1 of 2

BUSINESS AS USUAL GOOD FOR BUSINESS

Last week Club Orlov ran an article where he mentioned George Orwell talking about the demise of empire.  It behooved the system to hire leaders who had no idea the system was crashing.  If they knew, they wouldn’t work so hard to keep it going ( one presumes that instead they would deplete the treasury and take a permanent vacation on a better former coaling station turned Caribbean resort.  Or perhaps it used to be a sugar plantation.  No matter, they didn’t need to know history as much as successful embezzlement ).  This is an excellent point, but I would like to add to that.  Believing the structure to be sound, why would they work so hard to keep it going ( taking on all that extra work needed to save a crashing system, what they believe is just needless extra work )?  Job security, of course.  Even today, with no debtors prisons and your choice of bitches or ho’s to replace a wife that leaves you, job security is very important.  We practically sell our souls for it ( “drinking the Kool-Aid” is a literal expression.  We are committing suicide of the soul when we sell it to the highest bidder, chanting at the required alter of belief for a few pieces of silver.  It is also about as embarrassing as leaving a bloated corpse in the jungle to be photographed and displayed in the Violence Porn media for the addicted masses eating their corn syrup rations waiting for their entertainment ).  We buy into lies and fantasies for job security, and rationally choose to ignore any hint of structural rot so as to make our job of cheerleaders easier.  Not only is it too hard to put much effort into fixing what could have been easily avoidable problems, your co-workers will smell the dishonesty on you as you insincerely fake enthusiasm at designing workarounds for said issues.

Far easier to drink the Kool-Aid then live the duality.  Of course, some of us are pretty good at taking the Kings Coin in exchange for loyalty, having no issue with the underlying problems.  Those are true mercenaries.  But most of us have been indoctrinated into centralized nation state patriotism, and it just seems natural for the majority to duplicate that to a degree on the employment scale.  So, job security isn’t even loyalty in exchange for a paycheck but a validation of a new, compensated, belief system.  Life without goals and accomplishments and validity is empty and meaningless and most of us dedicate ourselves to work in exchange for a better life.  Our employees don’t just get clocked labor but pretty much mindless happy drones ( mindless despite how intelligent we otherwise are ).  That is what is so hard to fake, so naturally most dysfunctional systems are full of people who have subconsciously choose to wear blinders to the problems inherent in the organization.  It isn’t stupidity or love of money as much as it is that old friend of ours tribal identity.  Which is why reformers never reform as much as use a façade of reform as the excuse to consolidate group think, demand more work and more loyalty ( within a functioning system, not one in revolution or revolt ).  More of the same that works in ignoring the problems reformers allegedly were to fix.

  1. When the incoming and outgoing information is handled by the same insular group you cant make well informed decisions, only decisions based on what that group "knows". Bush famously said he doesn't read the newspapers, 0bama that he doesn't watch the cable news. In both cases the point though is moot as those sources of information (in the mainstream world at least) are already the things that their insular group knows.

So a president cant turn to the mainstream news to get a feel for the problems of the average people. Polls ask pre-written questions, and in the asking of the questions can manipulate the answers to support a conscious or unconscious agenda i.e.: Pollster- "do you oppose Trumps radical proposal to keep out select immigrants purely on the basis of his unfounded religious prejudice?".
So how is a "decider" (as Bush famously called himself) supposed to make intelligent decisions.

    2. Not even just them (shrub, the 0 ,whoever is next) but the people behind the throne pulling the strings, have to make decisions based on limited or wrong info and group think assumptions and attitudes. I think Putin's such a 'good' leader(for his and his nations interests) because he was in the intelligence branch of the KGB at the beginning of his professional career and has some good sources and a good understanding of 'group think' and its implications.
A president like a US Putin would try to subtly withdraw in a profitable way from our global empire and set up as much as possible, and set us up for a sustainable distributed future. Not going to happen, but our constitution allows us to be 'pre distributed' as states, counties, and individuals - mostly, for now...

  2. Merry Christmas. I have been subject to being near-missed, pass-cut-brakehard, and cursed at for riding my bicycle as fast as traffic (25 zone)in the "Best Bicycle City in North America" pdx. Yeah, right: Xmas-eve-consumer road rage.

Praise the baby Jesus, and our listmom with good hair.
Pray for a little more time to get some more urban escape funds by selling some more electrified modern toys.
Note the USD vs. furrin fiats is slipping, but silver is cheaper in terms of low-end labor than ever. There may be a moment when outlying property acres could be had for a few pounds of silver (a JM 100oz bar?), before that ugly time when it can be had for a few ounces of expended cartridges.

May the Lord g-d bless the followers of JD and his practical solutions to modern insanity.

    1. I almost want to buy silver at this low price, but like ammo and wheat, sometimes you just have to stop pack-ratting.

    1. Since it is frowned on to send anthrax through the mail, I saw no need to send #2 a Christmas card. (Geez, I'm kidding, NSA!)

  4. Club Orlov is a shady joint, prompt to embrace George Soros rhetoric (ridiculous scaremongering about immigrants in Europe) and radical feminist views.

I found his survival advice quite faulty (escape on a boat ? really ?)

    1. I have my own issues with Orlov-his publishing empire was not all it seems, but one must recognize genius when one sees it. Some of his stuff is treading water, most of it is a one of a kind perspective I enjoy ( see his last post on Ukranian nukes ). As for a boat, why not? The whole point is to get away from people. He has food and he will have a trade ( coffee from central amer. to north amer. in his boat )for when things calm down.

    2. "escape on a boat" works when leaving bad place, going to functional place. Money to be made transporting people/pharma/weapons on a boat. Fiberglas and wooden boats that sit low in the water are not very detectable among pleasure craft. DO has guest authors on his site that are different from his collapse ideas. What DO has that is very interesting is an inside understanding of how Russians behave.

    3. Boat idea is just another sort of nomadism. Food is gathered from the sea instead of from herds you 'control'. With much of the ocean fisheries in collapse, worse weather, and lawlessness increasing in the shipping lanes (see- Somali pirates) the ocean is a place already entering the hard parts of the crash. Pirates more significantly worry me. If you are sustainable you are using sails which are visible further away that petroleum powered pirates would be- petroleum power would give pirates a double advantage during conflict times, but the problems of petroleum power make it unsustainable for a long term thinking survivalist to use. So I think survival on the ocean is possible is some areas with some plans but knowing which areas to which plans will require EXPERIENCE which is something most of us will be hard pressed to get ahead of time (unless we are rich or work as fishermen or sailors - and note all three of those have a 'home port' on land to be based out of)...

    4. Orlov is sailing around now, plus he lives on his boat plus is an engineer, so his plan is probably sound. I wouldn't recommend it for just anyone. I'd be more worried about fish collapse than piracy, but both would suck. Then, there's Jaws.

    5. I think that the idea has some merit JJ, and that there are a few that can successfully pull it off. If you manage to avoid any areas of active piracy, or other areas that might draw suspicion, and you could probably live a relatively peaceful existence.

A few Earth boxes on deck can provide fresh vegetables. Solar for power is a given. And I did not know that they existed until I saw them on an episode of “I shouldn't be alive,” but a few of those floating solar stills will provide fresh water for the small Earth boxes and for drinking, along with rainwater collection.

Boats can be picked up for a bargain these days, according to Rancho Costa Nada Author, Phil Garlington, who recently acquired two at a bargain. And that's another great option for those living in the people's republic of California; the Delta region.

Despite the potential attractions, I remain a land lover, and would prefer the Nevada desert to the sea life. As a first choice though, I'll take an uncharted island full of hot, naked, native chicks :D
