follow the leader 1

FOLLOW THE LEADER

Back in the earliest days of the Cold War, survival wasn’t all that difficult or strenuous to ones brain.  You went down to your basement and built up a lot of mass against fallout.  A nice couple of weekends carpentry project.  A few Jerry Cans of water, some canned goods and you could relax a little better every time the commie leader started pounding his shoe on the table proclaiming he would bury us.  You could live in the city, most of which were pretty nice places ( as long as you stayed out of certain parts of town on the other side of the tracks ).  You got to keep your job, which was nice, and if it wasn’t so nice at least you got it without going to college and it was Union so paid a living wage.  Then, those dirty sticking Hippies came along and it all went to crap.  Okay, I’m kidding.  Then the war in Vietnam came along and the poor parts of society didn’t go along quietly to the slaughter as they had in times past and actually had the gall to protest and riot.  The nerve!  How dare they stand between the PTB and imperial profit!  And that was the last time the unkempt masses successfully stood up against our leaders.  Not because they had more gumption or sand or moxie, but because they were simply fighting for survival.  Our system changed to where no one had to struggle anymore.

This is what really, really annoys me about the sanctimonious pricks out there agitating against welfare benefits.  They are usually in the upper percentile economically.  Which means they should have a better education, they have no experience with 90% of how the rest of us live and they themselves benefit from welfare.  Rich people, by which I mean the rich(er), not Bill Gates stupid rich but the lower rich or upper middle class, poor by rich standards but rich by lower class standards, the two SUV driving McMansion dwelling white collar workers, one of the Rawles Rangers, should have been raised by better off parents and lived in a middle class bubble neighborhood with decent schools.  They have gone to college.  Yet, they seem to be rather stupid.  They actually think that America is still free, that hard work will make you rich, that they alone working in a cubicle pushing paper epitomizes a Horatio Algiers rags to riches story and that anyone on welfare is stupid and lazy and if they could only get an electric shock to the ass would go work one of those well paying jobs that are lined up out there.  Hell, lazy pukes, they don’t deserve a well paying job!  They should work two crappy jobs, two of the many waiting out there!  Our darky prez says unemployment is only 6%!  There has to be jobs awaiting the ignorant masses, right?  A socialist Muslim here illegally would never lie to us!  How did these people ever graduate an institution of higher learning?  I guess nowadays college is just like high school.  Show up and you get pushed through.  A diploma mill.

  1. "A Diploma mill" exactly

  2. Interesting. In my experience, the largest group, by far, complaining about welfare benefits are people either retired, or very close to it, worrying about their social security.

The second, smaller group, is blue collar folks who dislike folks they view as layabouts.

    1. So, old people welfare is in danger, or the ;last few jobs will go to illegals, and these two groups are in fear. They don't like the competition. Just like when one established immigrant group despised the newly arriving one. We never learn how we are being manipulated.

Being in that demographic, I can understand the anger. Since I started working in 1972 I have had either 7.65% (employed by others) or 15.3% (self-employed) of my income taken from me, without my consent and with the barrel of a (government) gun pointed at my head. The SS law was passed 20 years before I was born so I had no say in this. It's been a real pisser to watch older people enjoy life on my dime these past 40+ years. It's even more annoying to know that I'll never get back the $ that were stolen from me so the government could bribe another group to continue voting them into power.
I realize that the only way I'm going to get any SS is if the younger folks get stiffed by this government Ponzi, so, no, I won't be applying for SS benefits when I turn 62 (or 65 or whatever). Someone is going to get stiffed - that's how all Ponzi schemes eventually play out - but my conscience won't let me do that to the next generation. So I live cheaply like Lord Bison and will continue working until they throw dirt in my face. It sucks, but the .gov has left us working folks with no good options. At least this way I can look the younger folk in the eye without being ashamed.

    3. With the FedGov borrowing half or more of its budget every year, the economic collapse is baked into the cake. You taking SS won't make a raindrops in a sea worth of difference.

Take the money. Keep living cheap (how you are getting along now) and get some real prep's going. Even merely buying silver is going to put you in the "real economy" of the future. A year of median SS retirement, or even the minimum $640/mo, will build a nice little pile of pre-1965 dimes at the current suppressed price. I'm paying 13x face value, for "junk" silver and want to buy more. Silver can't stay below the cost of mine production for longer than I can sit on the coins. BTW: that is a very conservative strategy, allowing you to get up and move on no-notice until you get so much silver that you need a U-Haul truck. Real-short-term: hold at least a month spendings of US FRB paper money outside the banking system, like Greeks would like to have (60 Euro/day-200Euro a week withdrawal cap at most banks). A little bit of gold is a good thing, too. 2-3months spendings worth, after gettting enough silver.
I'm not as pessimistic as Jim the Fine-Maned list-mom. I think that the police state will be able to hold the general population mostly in check with propaganda, promises, and threats (kinda like now) without most places burning. They will keep the power and internet going, but highly controlled content, like China. Beer and Special Rations will be issued for good behavior, like being a policeman who stayed. ;-) It will suck, but way less if you can buy in the free (uncontrolled) market with .07ozT silver coins (pre-1965 silver dimes). The current mafia will control that market in the future as well: ask your local beer delivery driver who might have a connection like that. Tip well.

    5. Tip well. You would be amazed what a regular small tip, taking the time to BS and listening to their job woes do for a commercial relationship. They won't necessarily always cut you deals, but you become Job One as often as possible. Just be genuine. Gratuities are an investment, not a cost.

  3. As a former higher educator, I can say there was a real (but subtle) pressure to bell curve the class toward the B average. not everyone should pass every class but the designs of the classes were such that failure was rare, not common. Nothing obvious, or clear - just a 'you must be doing a good job as most of your students are passing' attitude.
And the classes I took myself were very much a be able to recite back XYZ and you will be able to pass at least.
Employers generally don't care if you got an A or a D as long as you got the diploma in the end for HR to put a copy of in your file, they are happy.

  4. When it was just the hippies protesting war it was easy to smash their freaky heads in. Then mothers and grandmothers joined the protests. Too many of their kids were coming home in a box. That's what killed the draft.

Now we have the economic draft. All those rural poor kids with no hope of a decent job can sign up and get themselves a nice pickup truck. No can protest now as they "signed up." Never mind that they had few other options.

Those well off don't understand how hard it is to claw your way up. Go to college, but get burdened by huge student loans. The rich kid can afford to take a 6 month unpaid internship and not worry about missing any meals. Did you know many graduates now pay for internships? It's also not uncommon to have to work two of them before someone will considering hiring you. It's pretty darn hard to climb the ladder when the rungs have been cut off.

Now these well off idiots want to cut a few more big holes in the tattered social safety net. That's how you get hung up on lamp poles by your guts. When people have nothing to lose, it gets ugly.

    1. Interesting, I hadn't heard about the TWO internship thing. Well, not much new there, the rich always make a way to keep the rabble out. Since a college debt didn't do it, now a year of unpaid internship will.

  5. I guesstimated that by the time I'm 62 i will have paid in, along with employers, about $150,000 into SS. with only 1% interest it would be about $200,000. If I live 15 years (not likely with family history) and continue interest it should be getting about $20,000 a year. Fat chance, even though its my money. I'm glad someone is enjoying living off my dime.

    1. I remember my first few paychecks 32 years ago, I was pissed about SS withholding. Since then, I don't give it a thought. To me, it has ALWAYS been another tax. It isn't "my" money ( ALL taxes are my money ). I didn't earn any kind of retirement, because I wasn't paying retirement. I was just paying another tax. I've never taken unemployment, and I paid into that, right? Was I cheated? It is all just taxes. If I get it, great. I don't plan on it. I only get pissy when others carry on about how they are owed it. Obammy owes me something? That will be the cold day in hell. All in all, end of the day, all said and done, if you worry about it and it doesn't happen, you are disappointed and butt hurt. If it does happen it is gravy. The only winning card to play is to assume paranoia at all times. If they CAN screw you, they WILL.
