real men sell their TV

REAL MEN SELL THEIR TV

I’m currently reading a library book, The Silent Brotherhood.  Very well written by two reporters way back in the 80’s on the racist underground terrorists in this country, mainly the Idaho crowd.   Not Aryan Nations but the splinter group that wanted to stop talking and start changing things.  The writers didn’t do the usual hatchet job like most did for Ruby Ridge or the Oklahoma City bombing.  You can tell they think this group was some crazy cracker honkey MoFo’s, but at least they took the effort to try to present both sides of the issue.  And, this was back when reporters had mad skills and weren’t just copying and pasting AP releases.  I was pretty shocked at the sticker price lo these twenty-five years ago, inflation adjusted to at least $50.  But perhaps back then libraries had better budgets.  I would recommend it if you find it at your library.  I noticed it because the “survivalist” label, but it mainly reads from the racist angle.  It barely covers preparations other than when used in the stereotypical coupling with crazy militants as was the wont in the smear campaign back then, but the book stands on its own as an interesting subject.  So far, what stood out to me was how the group initially financed things prior to engaging in illegal behavior.  After a new member was joined in with the group, the older order members went to the new guys house and made an inventory and “strongly suggested” which luxury consumer items to sell so as to raise cash to buy guns.

How cool is that?  You want in our gang?  We’ll make the hard decisions for you and make up your mind as to what you don’t need more than you need guns.  Imagine perspective survivalists going through this.  No, no, not my stuffed monkey karaoke machine!!!  I can’t imagine it either.  Worthless soft marshmallow bastards. Here were people living in hard times-the lumber industry as well as all manufacturing in this rural area were being shuttered- who were going to sacrifice further so as to place themselves in danger robbing armored cars to fund a race war, and today you can’t even get middle class asswhores wallowing in decadence to sacrifice their cell phone or their cable TV to save themselves in the coming Apocalypse.  I’m in NO way excusing the behavior of this group.  Racists, to me, are some pure D dumbass mother humpers, incapable of rational thought ( as I’ve said before, better a Black Christian next to you in a foxhole than a White Muslim- if you are a White Christian ).  It just seems to me that thirty years ago it was easier to recruit members to potentially kill themselves than it is today to find recruits willing to sacrifice to save themselves.  I find the irony delicious.

  1. We raised our kids there thru the 70 & 80s.
The 80s in Idaho were tough economically. Many had to hustle up their own enterprise or work out of state. Due to the recession and mill closures.
Militias abounded, until Oklahoma City , Ruby Ridge and Waco. Many scattered to the four winds after those events

  4. I suspect that these days most race-war oriented militias are composed entirely of alphabet-soup-agency moles unwittingly informing on other alphabet-soup-agency moles.
As government wastage goes at least it's more hillarious than the garden variety bureacratic money pits.

  5. Amazon has new hard cover copies of the book starting at $5.58. There's even a signed copy for $10.42. Used copies start at $1.67 (also hard cover).

Our public library didn't have a copy; but the cool thing is I was able to request one by way of an inter-library loan.
