war on drugs because we hate you

WAR ON DRUGS BECAUSE WE HATE YOU
Aesop over at HERE is not a big supporter of legalizing drugs. His arguments make sense, from his perspective as a medical dude ( we differ slightly on most things, but hold similar enough views we could probably remain civil in a discussion. I think. For instance, I don't agree with holding hospital standards of sanitation over into home life. Too much washing of hands keeps you from building an immunity ). From an anthropological view I agree with his stance. Where the argument falls apart is when you carry tribal rules over into imperial forms of government.
*
Why are we having this discussion at a survivalist publication? Because the more you know about the man behind the curtain, the less likely it is that you will be fooled and the less you are fooled the easier it is to decipher the coming attempts at assaulting you from the power center during Spicy Times. Now, let's get one thing out of the way right now. Libertarians are ill informed and blinded by ideology. I know, I was one for a long time. I don't hate them for it, but am more saddened. They have a far too narrow view of life, confusing a philosophy with an instruction manual.
*
Philosophy is at times ill prepared to fill in for policy. For instance, “A woman's body is her own property”, or, “the draft is involuntary servitude”, or “immigration isn't a problem with private property” ( this last one takes the position that the government should own no land, everything is private property and you are afforded freedom of movement as long as the property owner consents. If I'm translating the Libertarian Party's stance correctly ). All the above is Libertarian Philosophy. And all is horse crap.
*
The Libertarians oppose the nation state. And while it is true that the nation loves to abuse its citizens on occasion, on a personal level they do allow quite a bit of freedom. For instance, Hitler, in a very top down government prone to liquidating dissent, never ORDERED women to have more children for the greater good of the Reich. It was all persuasion and perhaps tax incentives. In a tribe, on the other hand, it is pretty much mandatory that women MUST breed. I'll delve deeper into that below. In a nation, if your abilities allowed, you can always opt out of the draft.
*
In a tribe, you had no choice but to be a warrior, for all intents and purposes. A tribe severely restricts freedom, far more than the nation. You are more equal, but everyone shares in the obligation to the tribe at personal expense. In a tribe, you keep what the tribe allows and share communally everything else. Private property CAN be much more generous in a nation. In essence, in a tribe there is a lot LESS selfishness. And we do not care because that burden is shared equally.
*
It is when a class system develops and the burden is unequal that issues with social disruption arise. The Libertarians solution is to abolish all class by abolishing government ( class is still allowed, economically. Which is okay because there are no barriers to advancement except ability ). The problem with this is that it doesn't work in the real world. It violates biology, and I don't care how great your design is, if it violates nature it won't work. Humans compete against each other. And they always will. That is our nature.
*
But, Jim! If we just all hug and sing Kumbaya and embrace The Philosophy ( plus super pinky promise to come together to smite any evil that doesn't agree with our non-initiating of violence pledge ), our society will prosper. Except, oops!, human nature has made us greedy and short sighted and did so to further the species survival chances. Greed is good, but not as Ayn Rand envisioned. Greed ensures we want MORE, and the only way to get MORE is to fight for it. Having gotten MORE, we deny others the ability to survive in a resource scarcity. MORE is simply the human version of a chipmunk stashing seeds for the winter.
*
Look, this isn't rocket science. Two tribes, each on their own side of the border and each with enough to eat. But since humans grow and overcome their resource base ( as do ALL life forms, given the chance ), eventually the food runs out. They then can attack the neighbors for more food. However, that is inefficient. By that time Team A is weak from hunger and Team B might also be running out. If, on the other hand, A attacks B when both are strong and well equipped, B disappears and A has twice the surplus.
*
They can go on to conquer C, and have triple the resources. Hence does the species always ensure survival in times of trouble. That is why the US with a minority of the global population controls ( well, DID control ) the majority of the energy. Energy equals food. That is the Way Of Things. If we all just got fat and lazy in Libertarian Land, once we populated past our food supply, we would all die together. Everyone was a winner until all lost. In Reality Land, there are always winners at the expense of losers so the winners make it through Bad Times.
*
So as much as I love the philosophy of Libertarianism, it isn't feasible. Even if it is ONLY a philosophy, as in, “minimize government to the fullest extent”, it still violates biology. Because if men do not fight and women do not breed, their group WILL be overcome by an enemy that does. So giving women control of their bodies guarantees that those free women eventually are enslaved or killed. Just as making women independent means they are abused and victimized. If independent, they have no male guardian and hence are fair game to all.
*
When the tribe owns a woman's womb, it becomes a resource worth protecting. Because she has value resupplying war machines. Once she becomes a free agent and chooses to NOT breed, she has little value ( despite what today's women are taught, they have little to no sexual value without reproductive capacity. And also despite what stupid bitches think, marriage ensures by force value past reproductive age. That is to her advantage. Duh ). In effect, all the problems stemming from Libertarianism are shared by capitalism. It assumes Surplus Forever.
*
Human nature is perfectly adapted to Perpetual Scarcity. Capitalism and Libertarianism is a perfect system for Perpetual Surplus. But they are greenhouse flowers unable to survive out of their artificial environment. This is why I now lean closer to fascism. It has far better tribal characteristics than capitalism. Just beware that fascism does NOT mean you want to BBQ all Jews on sight. That was just ONE countries brand of fascism. The US, until the collapse in the 1960's, was heavily fascist. It just had odd characteristics due to having a central bank. Not all forms of fascism are the same. I'll cover more the problems with tribal thinking applied to the nation state, tomorrow.

  1. Bison,

    You make several valid points.
And your thinking is powerful in this column.
(You may not be getting better as a writer/philosopher, I may merely see familiar patterns so it seems better.)

    I wonder...
Does most of today's column presume a closed system?

Does 'Team A' only access the productive areas of their keep == the fruitful fields, fisheries, and girly-bits?

    I wonder...
What if... we get beyond this stinky little rock?

A half-century ago, Timothy Leary and JFK proposed space migration.

    I'm leaning that way.
In an ever-expanding universe, my hermitage sphere is nicely ever-expanding to keep up.

I see a win-win aka The Libertarian Ideal. But it cannot happen in a closed system.

    As far as I know.
Of course, The Libertarian Ideal presumes Assault Weapons to match those of any trespassers... with a squidgeon of over-kill to help them mind their manners.

Unless, of course, those trespassers pass some sort of Red Flag laws to legitimize theft and slavery. And we should expect no less from trespassers; that is their way.

    1. Good point on trespassers. And, hey, whatever makes my writing appear better :)

  2. Wouldn't coal help America avoid some of the post Peak Oil hardships? We have loads of coal.

    1. It is crap coal, more pollution and less BTU's, but the main thing is that as soon as you sub oil with coal, the coal runs out exponentially quicker-reserves are calculated on current use only.

  3. Lord Bison, I agree with everything you wrote in this article. It is very insightful.

I wish I had a tribe I belonged to. Life would be better.

    1. Your tribe might just be one friend. That is far from ideal but it is really asking for too much for most of us to expect much more. Think of it as Partnering Up [ but not in a gay way! :) ] rather than finding tribe. Work buddy, guy you know at the range, whatever. Establish trust. They don't need to be a prepper-you can handle one more person to stockpile for. Just find someone you can trust-then don't scare them away with this kind of craziness.

    2. I’m not the dude @ 10:09am. But I think that having an effective tribe today is going to be quite challenging. The country is more politically divided than ever. In the past, there really wasn’t a huge difference between the two main parties. Most would argue that there still isn’t. But what they openly push for as policy, is in stark contrast to one another, and divisive as a result.

I’m right-wing (not that anyone really knows what that means anymore) and I hold views that would make it impossible for me to fit in with such a group, and I almost hate to say this: But you would almost be better off if you were, say, a partisan republican, and found a group of the same, to form a tribe with. I hate that kind of mindless, going with the herd mentality, but in such a tribe, at least there would be the least amount of dissension, giving the tribe better odds of survival. You certainly wouldn’t want me, who doesn’t mindlessly support the military (It’s nothing personal former military dudes) doesn’t mindlessly support the police, doesn’t think that “Chris Kyle was a hero”, and doesn’t feel the need to build more prisons for the dude that blows his mind out on illicit substances within the confines of his own property.

If you’re religious, this can provide some options. Certain religions are big on prepping, such as the LDS (Fair warning though: It requires a lot of time and dedication on your part, and isn’t for the faint of heart). You might find that most small town folks would be more open to the idea of prepping however, and being a Christian couldn’t hurt, since most small town folks generally would be.

    3. I would agree with you, mostly, even being former military and LEO. They have a lot of issues, but mostly they enable corrupt systems to flourish. The fact they are needed throws a monkey wrench in. We could get into that forever, but I think everyone knows what I'm talking about even if they don't agree. I think the prison system would be a less divisive issue. No way drug possession should be treated harsher than rape or murder, and hence a lot of prisons should be shuttered. Not that anything changes on the way to total collapse, but it is a good litmus test.

  4. I read a article about, how me need to get over the taboo of cannibalism. I guess cows fart to much methane gas and are responsible for global warming. So all cows will be killed, except the God cows that the sand chiggers are giving rim jobs. The new menu of the rich at Epstein island will be poor white straight males, because well you know they are all racist, sexist, homo haters. The fire is started and the vegetables are simmering, and they are trying to justify me or you, for the stew pot.

  5. "Capitalism and Libertarianism is a perfect system for Perpetual Surplus. But they are greenhouse flowers unable to survive out of their artificial environment"

I don't much parry with Libertarians, my interest in their navel gazing ended after graduating from the proverbial late night college dorm B.S. sessions. It took one semester....
Hot chicks and 50 cents beer at the local C&W dance hall was much more fun.

    But onward...
IMHO you sure as hell are just twisted up wrong that Capitalism is some delicate greenhouse orchid.
Capitalism is the cousin of that primordial force that propelled us out of the murky mire millions of years ago (side note: that mire is now being fracked for oil...ha ha! ...just had to get that jab in).

Capitalism is the survival force. It is like the force that makes a plant turn it's leaves toward the Sun.
Couple of days ago you alluded to Malthus & his quote that life is "short, nasty and brutish".
That is so...life is struggle, according to the old Talmudists. Capitalism is the lubricant.

Look, it goes like this...our genes have in effect "hijacked" us. All that we think about & act upon is directly traceable back to our specific DNA strand seeking to survive and replicate. The process acts out over generations. It is relentless. A perpetual waterfall cutting back its own rock base.
Wasn't it Burke, in 18 th C, who said something of human existence that it is "bloody of tooth and nail.."?

Capitalism will whip your ass and mine if we ignore it. It's no greenhouse orchid; more like a she-bitch from Hell.
    Embrace the suck.

    1. Capitalism was born of the Carbon Age and its surplus. It did not exist prior. Because of energy and resource constraints, there had to be more control over the economy so as to eliminate waste. An example is guilds. They were in place to profit, granted, but mainly they eliminated waste for profit. Carbon fuels allow this waste, which is viewed as normal, as is capitalism. Another example is fascism. The gov guaranteeing a profit and a monopoly deliver the war machine without competitive waste or excess profiteering. Capitalism is viewed as efficient because it delivers what is wanted at a lower cost, but resource waste is not factored in to the cost. Note I'm not saying capitalism is bad. I'm saying it requires excess resources.

    2. Capitalism is born of the Carbon Age??? What is that? Oil Age, Coal Age, Wood fire Age?
The Carbon Age is when our Hero Prometheus stole fire from the Olympian gods and gifted it to humanity. AKA emergence of Homo sapien sapien
Seriously Jim, folks have been doing the Capitalism thing since pre-history. We find flint spear points many hundreds of miles from their geological source in KS/MO.
Seashell bead necklaces,in quantity, found 1000 miles from Gulf of Campeche.
They got to destination through trade. Some dude bought shells cheap & in bulk from tropical Mexico and put the kids to work making necklaces to trade for sun dried bison penis from Oklahoma (he was an early prepper).

Capitalism is not some structured process with written laws it is intrinsic. It is trading something of perceived lower value for something of higher value.
No dried bison penis for you. Stick to your yak testicles.

    3. Capitalism is not trade. Trade happens in all systems as does profit. And by Carbon, I mean Coal Age up. You might be speaking from a micro view where I am from a macro. Perhaps therein lies our disagreement. But I'll NOT have you take away my special jerky! :)

  6. Jim, progressives world wide DO believe that they can change human nature, and they do it through the public schools, even I suppose in the workplace through "team building", cooperation over competition, etc.

The author at Invisibleserfscollar.com really drills down on how they do it. She wrote a book as well.
