POT SHOT
A minion sent me a link
to an Atlantic Monthly magazine article, which I would normally skip
because of the source, but for some reason, perhaps as I was in the
middle of my hastily discontinued Kindle Unlimited subscription and I
was agog at the Unlimited supply of really crappy books and needed a
well written voice to give me hope once again that somebody knew how
to use the typewriter themselves rather than turning it over to a
team of feces flinging chimps, I went ahead and started reading. And
it was pretty good!
*
I apologize for not
noting the issue, but it shouldn't be impossible to find. It was on
that big ass valley in Colorado where a lot of people are living
poor. It is the same location the guy that wrote the $5k Travel
Trailer Homesteading book lived at ( HERE
but don't bother buying the book-it is twenty some
odd years out of date ). The thing is, twenty-four years ago, he was
already warning that the Zoning Nazi's were making frugal off grid
homesteaders lives miserable ( I think he had been grandfathered in
), and that was probably prior to the state turning BlueBelly.
*
So, here you have
present day homesteaders moving there and “compliance officers”
are harassing them about whatever it is government officials do to
keep poor people away from their jurisdiction, or if you get lucky,
merely to shake you down for fines and fees ( they call these
“bribes” in Spanish down in Mexico ), which is probably things
like requiring a minimum square footage house rather than a mobile
home or trailer, a septic permit and etcetera. Whatever it is this
feral humpers pull out of their ass to outlaw the lower class.
*
And here is the fun
part. These bastards won't go into certain sections because the
“officer”, riding along with Sheriff's Deputies, are drawing
fire! Once the pimping police car draws a couple of pot shots, the
department won't visit that area anymore ( not for the zoning
police-one imagines they will send out SWAT and helicopters and
drones if it is in the interest of the Sheriff ). How awesome is
that?! This warms the cockles of my heart. It means an insurgency
is already afoot, that the guerrilla warfare of generations past is
not dead.
*
Of course, there is a
catch. There is always a catch. And the catch is that these people
are not Working Poor, or Retirement Poor, or Molon Labe Poor, they
are simply White Trash Welfare Poor. They are criminal scumbags. If
you leave into town, you better have a dog in a fence around your
trailer, because sometimes the trailer itself is stolen, not just the
solar panels and propane tanks. They are the kind of poor that don't
budget for trips into town ( and town is a long ass way away ), the
kind of poor that buy the land but don't have a reliable vehicle to
get to town, or to heat the trailer in winter.
*
So not only are the
lazy thieves, they are stupid lazy thieves. Which usually means they
are druggies on top of that ( inviting the Sheriff to conduct crack
head raids, perhaps on your neighbor ). They were stupid enough to
think moving to Socialist Paradise Colorado ( no offense to any
minions, I'm sure that you moved there when it was free, like I did
with Nevada ) was a good idea, without a car to drive a hundred miles
a day ( well, whatever it is-I think it was said the valley is the
size of Connecticut ) and without good prospects of a job for winter
heat.
*
The only thing they
were smart about was finding what they thought was the cheapest land,
and buying it instead of squatting illegally. But I don't think that
is enough to make them the kind of neighbors you want. At the end of
the day, when oil gets unaffordable or unavailable and it will for no
other reason than Iran ( or, punishing Saudi Arabia ), these stupid
humps are stuck out in the middle of nowhere, literally, and will
likely target your place. A PRE-apocalypse combat scenario.
*
If you think this is
far fetched, why are there brazen ballsy homesteaders out there
willing to shoot at cops? They will shoot at you with far less
reservations. Yes, they shot at the cop car, not to kill but to warn
away unwanted attention, but the point is that if the cops wanted to
take personal offense, or if the Sheriff wanted to make a big deal
about it ( one imagines the budget is too constrained, which is
probably why the residents are being squeezed in the first place ),
it is rather dangerous shooting at cops.
*
The valley isn't that
populated. Obviously, the shooter is probably firing AWAY from his
actual lot location, but the cops could if needed find out who it is
easy enough, due to the sparsely inhabited area. I applaud their
efforts, I honestly do. I wouldn't have the balls. I'm just glad
the spirit of rebellion is still alive and that it doesn't take much
to fight back. Just don't mess with these kind of deranged bastards!
Like, for instance, being their neighbor ( and yes, the attitude
that YOU are a danger just from being there will be prevalent. Even
if you lived there first. That is the attitude I have, after all ).
*
Now, you do realize
that this Colorado valley isn't unique, I trust. Almost everyone is
reporting that their location is now subject to theft, no matter how
far away or isolated. There were plenty of YouTube videos on this,
and plenty of Minion confirmation. Have a dog or three. Always stay
armed at your homestead. Realize you are living in Indian Country.
The 2008 Crash HAS gotten worse. What? You think that rents
doubling, car prices doubling, medical care unavailable except to the
rich or illegals, all that isn't squeezing a good portion of the
population?
*
You think that HALF of
workers earning less than $30k isn't forcing the former middle class
into poverty? You don't think those in poverty don't turn to crime?
Yeah, they are on drugs. Most of the population is, even if most of
that is legal drugs ( Deep State funding from the Afghan War poppy
prize ). “Another one to kill the pain”. Wishing people to be
smarter doesn't work, sorry. Most ghetto residents stay in the
ghetto, but some, enough, have moved out into the rural areas.
Welcome to overpopulation.
*
But take comfort in
these acts of defiance, even if from the criminal class ( on par with
moonshiners “disappearing” revenue agents ). We don't have to be
impotent, rolling over like a whipped dog as the Police State grows.
My own personal feelings? The day “indefinite detention without
charges” passed into law was the day our entire ruling class lost
legitimacy. That doesn't mean I'll fight back. Nor will I urge
others to do so. That is illegal. What I WILL do, however, is cheer
on anyone that does.
*
I'm sure soon enough
they will get around to making such a poor attitude illegal, but I
don't care. My bad attitude is all I have left. I cherish it :)

note: time for the monthly earnings report. I can't believe how good the Amazon commissions have been. Every penny adds up, and I appreciate every one of you supporting me, but just to add a note of wonder I can't believe the stuff some folks buy. I had minions buy trailer tires and metal wire fence rolls through Amazon! Anyway, total commissions were $267. A few books were bought as donations, so $7 there ( better than in a long while ). PayPal donations, $65. Total, $339. Most awesome, loving minions, thank you.

There's something about crazy neighbors . . . sigh. Yeah, I've fairly new neighbors -at the one place that's actually close to me. They aren't kids, fairly newly married, and I hope they divorce and move away soon. At first they improved the property, but that seems to have come to a sudden halt. Now it's almost daily drama as they yell, scream and throw furniture at each other.
ReplyDeleteThe last thing I'd need is to move to place with welfare crazies all around. At least my neighbors haven't pulled out the guns . . . yet.
Maybe the next people who move in will be sane. I kinda miss the old drunks who used to live there.
Hey, I've had wives like that :)
DeleteThat travel trailer homesteading book is one of my all time favorites. Yeah, it’s old now, having been originally published by Loompanics, but it’s inspiring. It’s the San Luis Valley as I recall Jim. The author mentioned that a lot of restrictions were starting up, but at that time, the chief building gestapo dude was quite reasonable. In fact, he let the authors home built septic system, as described in the book, fly. I’d imagine it’s not the same guy anymore.
ReplyDeleteIt’s too bad that many of these places attract such people, because it gives those of us that are actually poor, but law abiding citizens, a bad name, and gets us lumped in with the rest of them. The secret, short of literally going so far out that no one can find you, is to be low key. Most folks don’t grasp this concept; junk all over the place, loud meth and alcohol fueled parties to 2am in the morning, blasting music, etc and so on. I could live 50’ from you, and assuming that there was cover between us, you’d never know that I was there.
In other news, here in the land of fruits and nuts, Commiefornia gov Gavin Newsom has just signed a new bill limiting physical contact in youth football. May as well just put em in pink tutu’s, with padded uniforms equipped with flags, and call it a day. Our warrior status heading into the future is not looking good. We’d damn well better keep our tech edge, and even that probably won’t be enough.

Aesop ( or was it Market-Ticker? Sorry, just don't quote me ) was complaining about Gavin defying the FedGov over Senator eligibility. Or some such. All I know is the Republicans are just as bad as the Dems so it barely matters. My only point is, this guy is really piling on the stupid. Trailer Homesteading was indeed one of the best ones, it just doesn't seem worth the price they want for it now. But I do keep going back to it, for inspiration as you note.
Delete"Pot Shot" in our youth meant a shot with shotgun at standing still game, vs. shooting them on the wing or running. It meant "sure meat - this is for supper". :^)
ReplyDeleteHey, law enforcement authorities and even fire trucks get shot at in urban neighborhoods with 'vibrant enthusiastic citizens'. Not surprised to hear the indigs are getting cranky. Meth will do that to a fool. Friskiness is contagious and society is unraveling.
I'm glad I'm here, where the degree of discontent has to be with gently falling First World standards. Knock on wood it doesn't drop quickly.
DeleteAlways look for the nanny state. And if you're going to move, move before things get rough - then you have at least a chance of being a local and not a newcomer/unwanted refugee.
ReplyDeleteEverybody's had to fight to be free, you see
You don't have to live like a refugee
(Don't have to live like a refugee)
No baby you don't have to live like a refugee
(Don't have to live like a refugee)
Please, there will be no bursting out in song!
DeleteFirst an aphorism: A redneck will help you change your tire, white trash will steal your spare.
ReplyDeleteI've done the rural thing. Yep, keep armed not so much in town but in your actual own kitchen, while watching TV, while taking a dump, you get the idea.
You can't befriend these people; it's a case of "lie down with dogs, get up with fleas" I know an honest, hard-working, highly ethical fellow, vet, extremely handy with anything mechanical (yes guns are mechanical too) who was big on being off the grid, tried to co-exist with the white trash in the hills with the result that his place got burned out and the resulting forest fire made the news fairly prominently.
I'm reminded of the scene in 1984 when Winston realizes you can't make a revolution with the proles; they're hopeless. (What you and I and other readers think when we see the word 'proles' would be more like "freemen" or "yeomen".)
People who never had to live up to any responsibilities, never had to be good for their word, who never had to repay a debt, always found a reason to be elsewhere when someone they knew was in a rough spot ...
Frankly whenever it all goes down most of the city dwellers will sit down and just die, once the pop-tart run out. White trash will take a bit longer since they can live on feral cats and meth crumbs, but they won't last all that long either.
And let that be a lesson to you kids. Fire solves a lot of problems.
DeleteJust make sure the wind is your favor before lighting it off...
DeleteDon't be the guy that can't read "this end towards enemy".
DeleteErr, you mean you side with the meth-heads who burned buildings on the property of a guy who's honest, hard-working, politically what I'd call a Freeman, would give you the shirt off his back, can fix anything, and at times has been the only reason people up in those hills have gas, electricity etc during at least one severe storm?
DeleteI'm sure you read my comment wrong or at being facetious. I'll agree good fire defense is a must, but I'll also state that a few meth heads' heads on spikes around the perimeter are a good idea, call 'em lucky charms.
No, I was saying that regardless of what side you are on, fire is a good weapon. Looking at it from the methheads side, they found the proper tool to use. A lesson we should all learn. If they had been preppers, they would have only seen the viability of FLIR mounted semi-auto's for the fight. Does morality, right and wrong, factor into strategy/tactics?
