got your heart hanging

GOT YOUR HEART HANGING
We all know and love the Hearts And Minds military axiom. Essentially it states that Soft Power is a necessity. You must fight for support of the conquered people, and your own citizens, as non-cooperation will hand you defeat. Winning Hearts And Minds was the US occupying Britain even though she was an Allie and never had to be liberated. Winning was shooting up the whole country and then being treated as liberators in Italy. Or, abandoning the Philippines without so much as a Kiss My Ass, then being their saviors a few years later ( MacArthur was a huge dingus ) .
*
Screwing up Hearts And Minds was the whole Vietnam War outside a few experiments that were successful and hence unacceptable to the bureaucrats. Not winning was Iraq. We have been Not Winning since the fall of the Soviet Union, so inept we cannot even hide our naked greed and embarrassing fear ( individual valor on the ground is distant from geopolitics. Don't confuse the two ). Just as a comedian needs a Straight Man to be funnier, we needed a villain to soften our harder edges. Not content with the Sole Superpower debacle, we then turned on our own population.
*
There are still plenty of Useful Idiots waving the flag so vigorously that someone is going to lose an eye ( which almost seems to me to be a form of Self Victimizing we taunt the Left for. “Oh, look how patriotic I am! Why, I'm Super Ultra Patriot! Oh, no, Mr. Bill, nooooooo...” How do you explain the gov you love screwing you? You are supportive and loyal and don't deserve being a victim, unlike those pussies who think being Black or female or a faggot signal victimhood. Why, I'm the only one deserving of being acknowledged as wronged! )
*
If anyone here is confused, the government hates ALL of you. They are equal opportunity haters. Race nor gender nor age matters to them. Stop fighting to see who is more of a victim. It's embarrassing. All in all I think it fair to say that nobody in our government knows about winning hearts and minds anymore. I don't think they have the luxury of that being an option. At first, ignoring public perception was obviously a consequence of a Poor Winner glorying in his victory ( it was Slick Willie at the helm, what did you expect? A Southern nerd with a wife who pickled his testicles, of course he is going to act out )
*
Then it became a power grab to forestall Peak Oil ( I won't berate my minions for refusing to tremble at fear over Peak Oil [ cough, Fracking Fools, cough ], but I want you to contemplate that government bureaucrats figured it out twenty years ago. Do you feel outclassed by civil servants? ). There was little time to waste, as we had to secure failing resources pronto. The squishy feeling stuff could wait. Well, by the time we secured the oil fields, then we had to deal with the economics of the situation.
*
So by now, the institutional memory has forgotten all about Soft Power. Not that they have the luxury of reinstating the policy. If you aren't rock solid aware our economy is exponentially worse off than a decade ago, and falling just as fast as the crash of Lehman's Brothers, you will be in for a very unpleasant surprise. The Powers That Be are scrambling about looking for a nice and easy fix like they had the last time and, well, good luck with that.
*
Now, obviously, we can all see the negative consequences of ignoring the necessity of Soft Power. When you don't even pretend that you'll cut other folks in on the profits, when you don't even pretend other countries are more than a colony to be exploited, then you see coalitions formed against you. You see former allies failing to cooperate, or even failing to hide the fact they are joining your enemies. Now, nobody sees you as a necessary evil, but rather just simply evil. Soft Power helps and it pays rather than costs.
*
But as I said, abandoning Hearts And Minds is just another example of eating into your seed corn. You can describe it as being greedy and stupid, but first and foremost it is a necessity dictated by falling resource availability. For instance, today we have JIT Inventory, not because it is better but because we MUST. In the military realm, we don't have enough resources for war fighting AND peace making. So we JUST concentrate on blowing stuff up. You do realize it isn't JUST about money, right? We can print up as much as we need, but ores and energy and stuff cannot to pulled from ones rectum.
*
At one time, we had the industrial capacity to rebuild continents after world wars, the excess food to feed them as we were rebuilding, and the merchant fleet to move everything over there. What do we have now? FedEx and corn for ethanol. Whoopy Pickles. We didn't surrender all that because we wanted to. It was because we had to. Needs be as needs must. It is as simple as recognizing reality through the fog of hubris and wishful thinking ( cough, Fracking Fans, cough ).
*
So, having first hand lived through a lack of any concern given towards Winning Hearts And Minds, we understand the negative aspects of this. Even as we understand it could not have been any other way. But here is my point, right about the end of the article ( we might be running out of resources, but only the sweet release of death will see the end of surplus hot air on my part ). Even knowing about Soft Power, SHOULD you exercise it even if you have the means? I'm going to discuss this. Tomorrow. When ignoring Soft Power becomes a necessity not for lack of resources but because of strategic considerations.

impotent leo

IMPOTENT LEO
There are two things to keep in mind when it comes to the Powers That Be and their ability to suppress dissent. One, they are doing a great job but it will only work in peacetime. And two, people underestimate their opponent while at the same time overestimating their own ability. This was brought to mind as we discussed gun control in the comments and I observed a tendency to buy the hype of governmental abilities. I pointed out the massive fear porn generated by thermal imaging and how it was way overblown.
*
Look, it does no one any amount of good to underestimate the governments fear and hatred you you, a lowly citizen. They are like a timid housewife scared witless by a mouse as they shriek in abject terror, throw the kitchen chair at the rodent, run screaming from the domicile, and call in a orbital thermonuclear strike to assure complete destruction of the threat. Granted, if the government sets its sights on you, you are truly and utterly humped in the drive thru ( remember that one? “They Hump You In The Drive Thru!” ). But otherwise, they are near impotent. Not “important”, “impotent”.
*
Not so impotent that they cannot mess up your day. If they find you and surprise you- so don't be getting a swelled head and beat on your chest and start spouting off that line from the movie “Pulp Fiction” ( And I Will Strike Down With Great Vengeance...) and think your AR carbine with FLIR scope makes you a mighty defender of freedom. Discretion is the better part of valor in this matter. But OVERALL, in the great scheme of things, IN GENERAL, the government is basically a bully with little actual force to back up its bluster.
*
Law enforcement in any age or system of government is 99% consent by the people and 1% efforts of agents of the state. The police are to law enforcement what a lock on a door is to an honest man. They remove temptation from normal people. There is no door that will keep out a determined thief and no amount of police will stop the same. The police are there to keep order by instilling fear if you don't police yourself ( or, far more ideally, if your community doesn't police you-culture is better than conscience in keeping order ).
*
Yet, today, police do not even hold that 1% of control, while at the same time lacking the 99% efforts of society ( without cultural unity how can there be any enforcement of community standards? ). Things are a hot mess in law and order. In this country, we are very close to the situation seen in Britain where police chase Wrong Thinkers rather than real criminals, while the elites go about running pedophile rings unmolested by law enforcement. And the people, if they protest either situation, are ignored or persecuted.
*
We laugh at England, trying to ban knife possession, at the same time we allow leftist attacks on the law while denying the protection of the same to any right wingers. This isn't difficult to understand, as it is simply running out Divide And Conquer to its logical conclusion. It also explains how the police are now run. They are timid little pussies opening fire at the slightest danger ( semi-auto high capacity goodness! ), ganging up on grandma's with a wrong address warrant, and getting rubber stamped by all courts to do so. Because the police have so little actual power, they overreact.
*
The government itself has so little power that it overreacts to any perceived threat, and its LEO's are the same way. This makes them especially dangerous, but it also points out why they will also be such an easy opponent. While you must fear becoming a target, don't buy their bullspit which is merely propaganda trying to puff up their abilities. If the government wants your red flagged guns, sure, they WILL find them. But don't think they are flying around finding every single buried gun with ground penetrating radar. For every criminal they capture, nine get away free. Why is their technology so fearsome with this level of ability?
*
Look at the paper tiger US military. More training is devoted to political correctness than fighting, and more money goes to institutionalized corruption than workable equipment. The fierceness of military technology is mostly selling the American public on the high price tag of the military industrial complex. That the police are being militarized is cause for celebration, not dread. When your military cannot defeat little brown dudes in black pajamas or little brown dudes herding goats, the more the police act like the military the more they won't be able to defeat little Deplorable dudes.
*
The fact that the police need to gang up to do anything makes them MORE vulnerable, not less. The only reason they don't get their asses handed to them now is because they stay out of areas deemed too dangerous ( you read headlines like “Swedish police declare city blocks No Go Zones”. Hell, the US taught them that tactic, decades ago ), leaving law enforcement duties to the gangs. Yes, occasionally they make an appearance en masse. It is all Kabuki Theater. The police don't have control of large areas of this country, both urban and rural. Stop quacking in your boots like a little bitch.
*
Respect what they can do, on occasion, more by accident than design, in case it is directed at you, but don't buy into the bluster and hype of omniscience. If a cop stops you, by all means kiss their ass. Request bare skin if necessary. If you are citizen quivering in fear, they might allow you to go about your business of supporting them without question. Never directly challenge them and never, EVER, make the mistake of thinking you have ANY rights. You don't. The Bill Of Rights? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Bill Of Rights!
*
Don't try be be a jailhouse lawyer. Lawyers don't know the law today, the number of statutes so numerous. If you are so foolish as to remind a cop he doesn't know crap about the law, he will remind you what a Taser feels like. Simply never say anything, just do it respectably. Even a public defender, who is completely in bed with the prosecutor and judges, is a better bet than you talking to the LEO's. But, when it comes time to fight ( and of course I do not advocate you starting it, or even engaging in it if possible ), realize you are on far more even ground.
*
When the police do not have you surrounded and unarmed, they lose their entire advantage. THEY must remain high profile, and you do not. They must wait for reinforcements in order to conduct a frontal assault. You may remain a guerrilla, acting alone and hence having no fear of being used as a bargaining chip by a captured and tortured ( or turned Quisling ) cell member ( cell as in organization ). When looked at from a purely military standpoint, the police are nearly completely impotent.
*
The police today being out of control and hyper aggressive is allowed for the simple reason that it is a fear tactic. Just as a lone Japanese soldier patrolling with a bayonet was so feared he was mostly avoided and complied with, SWAT teams killing kittens and old men targeted under red flag laws serves the very simple purpose of forcing compliance through fear. But the fact that the government must do this means that they are massively understaffed and mostly unsupported by the citizenry. They are telegraphing their impotence, to those listening with reason rather than emotion. Try to keep a balanced perception on this.
*
P.S.-to any LEO reading this. Yes, I fear you. I honestly do. I KNOW you can kick my skinny punk ass. I am under no delusions that I am a mighty soldier compared to you. All I'm saying is I could be a little cheating weasel if needs be. Not that I want to, but assuredly other people do. I'm timid and won't try anything-they are not, and will. Please be smart and surrender your pension if it ever gets to the point of armed insurrection. I respect your efforts at Keeping The Peace, so don't lose legitimacy by joining the army of occupation. Because you'll be screwed financially anyway if it gets to that point and you are just needlessly endangering yourself. Hugs and kisses!

strawberry oatmeal 2

STRAWBERRY OATMEAL 2
How does strawberry oatmeal tie in with “rewarding your frugality”? Easy. I came to love strawberry oatmeal, and then ran out. Which constituted a real problem which prompted this article. Okay, here I am with twenty or so boxes of strawberry oatmeal. Made of mostly oatmeal, which I hate. I'll eat it, so I don't hate it as I do cooked vegetables which I refuse to eat. If the world's hottest bikini model with huge real boobs offered to sleep with me ( cowgirl style ) if I ate her vegetarian dinner first, I would be by myself that evening.
*
That is the extent of my displeasure over cooked veggies ( which were pounded down my throat under duress my entire childhood ). Oh, you poor dear, right? No. Hump you! It wasn't abuse but it sure was the perfect way to get me to never touch cooked bunny food ever again. Raw? You bet, with just a couple of exceptions like potatoes. And I don't touch broccoli or its illegitimate siblings. I don't care what I have to do to avoid them. You want me to be a dinner guest? No thanks, you vegetable cooking son of a bitch.
*
So, oatmeal is no where near the train wreck, clown car wreck, slow motion car through the orphanage wreck horror show that cooked veggies are. I CAN eat it but would prefer almost anything else. Well, after a year and a half of slowly increasing inactivity and cheating on exercise in favor of writing and research, I'm starting to feel like a huge glob of crap. Not getting too fat as much as aging way beyond my years. Everything hurting, feeling like an eighty year old begging to not wake up next morning.
*
I had to start exercising and more importantly, eating better. I've always eaten healthy, if you look at whole grains as healthy ( if you don't, I've heard all the arguments already, please and thank you ). But I needed to still improve the diet. Little things, like cutting down the chips to once a week instead of every day. Not taking vitamin C on an empty stomach, or drinking coffee on one. I kept seeing the oatmeal up on the office “food pantry” ( a spare shelf ). And I unearthed my BOB bag packed a decade previous and tried everything in it.
*
Which included oatmeal-the kind with sugar, fake milk and fruit. Yeah, it was still perfectly edible ( along with the Top Ramen and Rice A Roni ) after sitting in the junked truck cab through summers and below zero winters. And I realized that oatmeal wasn't as horrid as I recalled, after that taste test. And just look at all those boxes of strawberry oatmeal, just waiting for me to start eating better. So I started eating oatmeal every day. I didn't LIKE it but my hatred was lessened. So, naturally, after a time I needed to go replenish what I had eaten.
*
And you would think, after all the strawberry oatmeal that gets donated to the Food Bank, that nobody likes it. Yet, every time I went to buy on sale, they were usually out of strawberry. So all the other flavors I could stand ( NOT banana! ) were bought and began accumulating. I thought I was Chef Studly, finding all these cool flavors like blueberry when the Quaker brand oatmeal went on sale, but alas, that brand really tastes “off” compared to the Kroger brand, which only carries about four flavors I can eat.
*
Well, the top of the “pantry” can hold up to forty boxes of oatmeal if you arrange then just right, and so I lost track of the fact I had run out of strawberry flavor. I just went through a box of apple, and I was getting sick of apple, and realized I hadn't had strawberry for awhile. I desperately started rooting around like a rabid piglet, and there was no strawberry. I had come to almost love strawberry, but only because the other flavors kind of sucked ( I have real issues with texture when eating-it isn't JUST taste that can turn me off ). This set me off on a mini-skulk.
*
Here I was, eating this slop not because I wanted to but because I needed to, many foods from decades past put on the forbidden list. I'm chocking it down under the best of circumstances, and now I have to eat crappy flavors! The Humanity! I eat whole wheat microwave bread twice a day, dinner leftovers for lunch ( and there isn't a lot of variety there to begin with ), have cut back on my meat to almost nothing ( budgetary reasons-although “nothing” just means far below a pound a day ), and NOW, on top of this other deprivation I have to eat flavors of oatmeal I do NOT like, Sam I Am!
*
Needless to say, I got every box of Kroger brand strawberry oatmeal they had in stock today. Now I feel much better. It isn't even as if I'm treating myself, like buying ten bags of Dorito's because they are $1.88 a bag if you buy 10. All I'm doing is giving myself a break on Sucking It Up. I'm still sucking crap through a straw, it is just occasionally a small diameter. Not to say I'll enter the apocalypse with such refined sensibilities with food. I'm not THAT spoiled to think I get an American diet post-apocalypse.
*
No, I'm merely pointing out that when you self-discipline, it is okay to reward yourself slightly to encourage that discipline. To me, a better flavor of a sucky food is a deserved reward for eating the slop. If you give a kid Flintstones Flavored vitamins, the kid wants to take vitamins. Forcing horse pills tasting faintly of urine down their throats, screaming in your best drill sergeant voice about not being a maggot or a pussy, that is NOT the bit of sugar you need to make the medicine go down smoother. What harm in there is a little bribe, as long as it stays proportionate to the difficult task?
*
If you just cut the $150 cable bill, that is enough. You did great. Denying yourself a $10 a month treat of Netflix ( or better yet, the $13 a month Amazon prime so you get a better selection of non-PC movies, PLUS get free shipping so you order stuff through my commission ads ) just so you can brag to your prepper buddies that “I don't watch TV-I'm too much of a stud for that”, well, that doesn't exactly reward your frugality, does it? I mean, obviously, you must enjoy TV for that example to apply, but I'm sure you take my meaning.
*
Do the hard work, then give yourself a nice little dogie biscuit as a reward. Just filled a IBC tote with wheat, assuring yourself five years of emergency food? Go buy yourself a case of MRE's. Granted, the wheat was all of six hundred bucks, tote included, and the MRE's for a mere two weeks food is almost a hundred. So, yes, it is a COLOSSAL waste of money. But you earned it! It is your biscuit. Rewarded behavior is repeated, so reward yourself for doing the hard tasks with a little bit of sugar.

strawberry oatmeal

STRAWBERRY OATMEAL
Working in the Food Bank was both one of the best and one of the worst jobs I've ever had. Not my most or least favorite. My favorite job was in a video store, eight hours on the clock reading in between customers and two to six hours off the clock watching videos. What more could you ask for? My least favorite would not be the military as you might imagine but the night shift in the casino-I was overseeing the slot department and the stress from being responsible for people and lots of money was significant.
*
The Food Bank was the best as in a job I could help people and make a difference ( this, my writing job, is the most rewarding spiritually, but here I'm focused on “real” jobs as in someone signs my paychecks ). But it was the worst as in run not by incompetents but rather by hucksters. They were very good at the job they did in milking public and taxpayer money. They were not incompetent at their intended purpose, but that itself made them look as such in their pretend job. Which was “helping the unfortunate”.
*
I understand that not all Food Banks are like this. The Catholic Church food bank in Daytona Florida I had to use was run as a pure charity, with no overhead costs. The two Nevada food banks I worked at were so top heavy with paid positions it is a wonder anything was left to dribble down to actual poor people. I have no data but my gut feeling is that the Nevada “charities” are closer to the norm, where needy folks just get in the way of fat assed bitches sitting in front of computers filling out paperwork for government grants.
*
Yet, even knowing the extreme waste and misdirection going on, I still felt good about feeding people, especially as 2009 saw a huge uptick in customers, going from primarily spoiled bums to families suddenly shy on job hours to buy groceries. It felt good to load up the kids with food. And I rarely “helped myself” to any food other than what would have spoiled over the weekend and would have been thrown away. I had not expected anything more than minimum wage as compensation, but I knew I was doing better than most, so I didn't need any donations.
*
Well, sometime in the first three years I ran the Food Bank all by myself ( picking up donations in the morning, making food boxes to give out the rest of the day ), federal and state funding must have become an issue ( remember at the time with the local governments declaring bankruptcy, turning asphalt roads to gravel, and etc.? ) and the people running the place went from wasteful, to wasteful, insecure about their job security and outright dishonest in their administration. It became all about pulling in money, and very little about feeding people.
*
I don't know if you've ever noticed, but I can be a bit stubborn. I dug my heels in at work and refused to play their little reindeer games. For instance, it was assumed I'd devote most of my time to making the Food Bank all pretty for when potential donors stopped by. It was assumed I'd keep the shelves fully stocked ( I think they thought it would make us look successful, hence getting people to match others generosity ). I did neither, and let them know exactly what I thought of those ideas. No, I won't cut back on how much food I give out. No, I don't have time for spit and shine.
*
No, I don't have time to drive a half hour away for near worthless donations of spoiled dairy and dented cans, just to give some sleezeball business owner a tax break. I can't feed anyone with that. No, I don't have time to keep the truck all pretty-I'm busy picking up food. I'm working on my lunch break, unpaid, so I'm eating in the truck between pick-ups. Sorry it gets messy in there. I was doing more than two jobs, at minimum pay. Needless to say, no good deed goes unpunished. I soon was “replaced”. I still did all the work, but now I had a direct supervisor. I was no longer the food bank manager, but the driver.
*
So, it was no longer up to me how much food those in need got. It was no longer up to me to say no to worthless donations, or beautification over real work. I was picking up fruit and vegetable waste to inflate the donation numbers ( and I mean, as in, it was all only suitable for pig food and if you found a piece fit for humans that was by accident ). I did little to hide my displeasure and was quickly relieved of nearly half my hours ( not that any of my duties were cut, but rather added to ). For a time there, I only stayed working because I wanted to win in seeing who would quit first.
*
And after a time, I did start helping myself to donations. Nothing ever serious. Never real food like frozen meat, but more along the lines of whatever would be stolen by others, or just sit on the shelves forever as props. I still took perishables that were so abundant we couldn't give it all away, mostly what was going to end up in the dumpster. And a LOT ended up there. Because it all became about donation numbers and not about food for the needy. It was about stroking local businesses, and getting them tax breaks.
*
You want me to waste how many hours trying to load and unload several pallets of watermelons so beyond hope they were rotting from within ( genetically modified yumminess! )? It got pretty ridiculous. So, I really had no guilt over my slight bit of skimming. It took zero out of the mouths of the hungry, and was a tiny “Screw You” to the much bigger crooks running the place.
*
Which saw me with, eventually, about a dozen boxes of strawberry oatmeal. Which I doubled with those I purchased myself during sales. I had a sweet stockpile of oatmeal. Which I never ate, because I really hate oatmeal. I ate the gruel through most of High School, almost every day ( stepdad was an oatmeal freak, so we had stinking oatmeal near every day. After a time, you simply couldn't make it taste okay, even with fruit and other additions ). I never wanted to touch it ever again. But, you know, apocalypse food ( I was going to add to bread or, I would learn to love it, being something besides bread ).
*
And that my friends is how you stretch out an introduction to your real article subject, which is “Rewarding Your Frugality”, which is covered tomorrow.

services denial 3-article 2 of 2 today

article 2 of 2 today
SERVICES DENIAL 3
Already, Red Forces are at a disadvantage in the coming conflict, not being unified. I mean, don't get me wrong, DIS-unity is perfect for guerrilla warfare, but there is no unified goal or agreements. We all want different things. Some fools want populism, less taxes but more military and law enforcement ( I always translated that to No Black Welfare ). Some fools want a strong federal government but no foreign occupations ( these must be Fracking Fanboys who think we don't need imported oil ). Some want not enough government ( leaving us ripe for Blue reconquest ).
*
The opposition forces all want pretty much the same thing, which is simply power. The Blues are all for BAU, and will suffer any amount of communism to get it. The Reds want the Bill Of Rights back but don't agree how far back they need to roll legislation that usurped that. Hell, I don't even want the Constitution back without better language reigning in the Feds. The Blues can be loosely united as they argue over tweaking the current system ( only gays and OtherColrs have the vote! ). The Reds will more than likely be fighting themselves along with the Blues.
*
Of course, while that hindered the non-Soviets, that was a age of centralization. We are past due for decentralization now, so the winning strategy now is not the same as then. One hopes, at least. The problem with changing strategies is that they are as hard to time as collapses. What might fail in 2020 could win in 2025. But the general trend IS moving towards decentralization. So more than likely, the Blue strategy for more centralized power fails. At least in the long run. But “long” now isn't as long as it used to be. How can it, with resource decline?
*
What ISN'T going to work is halfway measures. We cannot fight for freedom yet allow communists to remain in our conquered territory. The same with lawyers and politicians and CEO's and faggots and purple hair cat ladies and women's libbers and etcetera ( yes, I realize the contradiction of freedom fighters eliminating freedom for certain groups. History is nothing but irony. Greeks pontificated for freedom while their slaves tilled the fields, as did our Founding Fathers. Just use “freedom” as code for “we're back in charge” and it makes more sense ).
*
What the Reds SHOULD be united about isn't the details of governance but rather cultural and group homogenization. A tribe where everyone thinks the same way. What we need is freedom from dissenting voices opposed to one culture. And it would be nice to get back to biology based culture. So, opposing “communists” really just means “that other culture/tribe we ain't”. Tribal unity requires discipline and curtailing of freedom. The Blues use freedom to destroy the old culture. But it is ONLY freedom from consequences, not personal freedom to choose to embrace consequences.
*
This is the problem with trying to articulate a cultural viewpoint. We all know what I mean. “Freedom” isn't literal. But Blue Freedom means very different things than Red Freedom. Both showcase oppressive governments, and both those supporting their government believe themselves to be more free. The time is way past to separate the two cultures. The Blues don't want that, as they have colonized us. We want it to be free from them. It is, really, the exact same situation as the first civil war. One side wants to control the finances and the others wants free of that.
*
What it is NOT about is national unity, not this time. Before, the economy grew with unity ( moving to an industrial system requires centralization ). Now, the economy contracts and only local autonomy can offer inhabitants any chance of economic success. This is more about economic control than individual freedoms, in the end. More than likely, small is going to be the new beautiful. Localization removes transportation costs. And as transportation is dependent on contracting oil, that cost MUST be minimized. Some transportation is always needed, but what must be reversed is the need for EVERYTHING to be transported.
*
As we move to more tribal organizations, more unified cultures, tolerance is going to need to be tossed out the window on our train headed towards collapse. ANY tolerance of outside culture. In this case, staging our strategy on winning Soft Power probably is not going to be as important. World opinion isn't going to help, or hinder, when everybody else is contracting to deal with their own internal problems. That is probably a discussion for another time. For now, just assume the trend will be on the rebels going Full Retard French Revolution.
*
And the Feds going Full Retard Soviet Oppression or Full Retard Nazi Liquidation. And a drastic political break entails ALL resources being denied to the other side. The only good thing about the infrastructure being destroyed for military advantage is that, we can't use most of it anyway, in the near future. Is your location able to go it alone? Are you behind enemy lines? Remember, we can't change legacy systems. Groups were they are at now most likely is where they will stay.
*
So, to presuppose that the war will be along racial lines and the Blacks will immigrate to the Deep South and form their own country might be a bit too fanciful. They might very well end up exactly where they are now, in large urban centers. This is not to say we won't see a repeat of the formation of Pakistan. Just keep in mind that even with all the migration back and forth, a lot of Muzzies still stayed in India. Yet, Pakistan didn't leave any room, culturally, for Hindu's. The Blues being India and the Reds being Pakistan, in case you missed that. They can afford diversity, being the majority. We as the oppressed minority need to start back out as completely segregated.
*
But, do you see a lot of Red access to the ocean? All of the urban centers are Blue, and a lot of the cities are on the coast. As a general rule, 20% of the national population lives on the DC to Boston strip and most of the remaining are on the other bodies of water. Gulf coast, east coast, Great Lakes and the Pacific. Blues control all waterways and ports, petroleum processing facilities and financial centers. The Reds? A lot of rural areas dependent on Blue oil ( need I remind you that without ports or oil, there won't be much of an economy? And just to be clear, all this is PRE collapse. Two different occurrences ).
*
Blue cannot hold much of the continent, not as resources contract. To be clear, you want to be out of Blue areas and contested borderlands. I'm not sure at what point any of this becomes your fight. Balkanization occurs whether you participate or not. Better to relocate to an area you can be victorious against minority Blues, well away from the main fight. And beware lines of drift from fleeing Reds, who will fight you, just because they were driven out with nothing. Your philosophical agreements don't put bread on their table.
*
WE all want a nice clean collapse leaving us alone to survive locally. Odds are that doesn't happen. Before the collapse, war. And not a clean crisp war overseas. Local war and the mess that entails. Spicy!

Post apocalypse motorized bicycle project- An update

An update on the motorized bicycle project. I had it going for a few weeks, and had a decent amount of time to try it out. At first everything went fairly well, but I began to notice that what appeared to be the clutch, was making noise, as in it was randomly engaging. I tried adjusting it, and it all went down hill from there. I could never again get it adjusted to the point where it either wouldn’t lock up solid, or wouldn’t grab well enough to engage the wheel for bump starting. I figured that a simple, maintenance free patch, to get around this problem, would have been to get one of those centrifugal clutch kits that they sell for these motors, along with a pull start (Total cost of about $75). I seriously considered it, but at this point, I already had concerns about the long term reliability and maintenance of these Chinese 2 stroke frame mount motors, and decided not to divert anymore funds into this particular drive/motor system. That, and after learning more about the friction drives, and reading various reviews, I knew that was the way to go.

In short, I ordered the Staton Inc friction drive ( A shout out and thanks to Stevelo). I ordered the kit with the .930” roller. Apparently with the friction drives, the smaller rollers act the same as a large sprocket gear in a chain drive. The .930” being the smallest, will be the same as gearing it low for hill climbing, and for pulling heavier loads. They made them all the way up 1.5”, but I wasn’t as concerned about speed as I was pulling power, and hill climbing. And if I decide that I should have went with a larger roller for whatever reason, a replacement roller only costs about $25.

Yes, it was $360 for the kit, and I had to pay an additional $24 for the kit to convert it to fit my 29” bike (Another reason to avoid non-standard sized bicycles if at all possible. Common accessories do not fit them, including these engine kits) and the shipping was $40. So it set me back $425. I have now spent $900 of the $1k that I had originally set aside for my motorcycle fund, between the new motor, the first motor, and a few other accessories that I got for the bike, so I did manage to stay below my alloted budget. But I’ll never have to buy another one again. It’s a Honda engine (Say what you will about the Japs, but there’s a reason those little suckers kamikaze’d our auto industry :D ) and it will last the rest of my life, barring that the bike never gets stolen (knock on wood. And apparently, quite a common occurrence with these motorized bikes. Fortunately, I live in a rural, low crime area).

Unless you’re Joe mechanic, or Rube Goldberg, and enjoy tinkering, learn from my mistakes. Get the easy to install, low maintenance, friction drive. Yes, you can get them for about $125 cheaper than what I paid (less if you have the standard 26” size bike). But for the savings of about $100, you get Chinese quality vs Honda Japanese quality. And a $100 isn’t enough to justify the savings. I looked around, and it appears that Staton produces the best unit in the industry.

Just as a heads up. Apparently, the friction drives do not do as well in wet weather conditions. They’re still usable on some level, but at a reduced rate of speed. For me, this is a non-issue, as I don’t ride in wet weather. But it’s something to consider, if you do.

Eventually, I’d like to sand blast and paint the bike olive drab, and go for a military scheme. I will provide a brief performance update, after I receive the kit and install it. I’m really looking forward to my low cost, and reliable transportation alternative to the automobile.

services denial 2

SERVICES DENIAL 2
We left off yesterday with a great example of Services Denial, the Northern California utility that has announced it will be shutting down electrical service when winds threaten ( or extra heat, or whatever they construe as a threat to their equipment ). We could take a lot away from this development, such as the break down of private monopoly oversight. Or, state and corporate collusion. Or, an example of Peak Oil when the grid cannot maintain its 24/7 mandate anymore ( the public utilities supplying on demand power was the biggest argument against intermittent alternate energy ).
*
We could surmise that we have entered Turd World Nation status where power is going to be on two hours a day, rolling blackouts ( it seems such a small thing, a utility calling to close so as to avoid starting wildfires next time. In reality, it is the foot in the door for very poor behavior. It was a test case, and you and me lost. This is the wake up call that Your Precious grid is now New Normal unreliable. Get your solar panels and generators now, before the rush. The JIT inventory won't handle the demand ).
*
And yet, I see something else here. I see another example of Services Denial used as a weapon. Today, the corporates are declaring hence forth and ever more they will not pay out of pocket for Acts Of God, or even Acts Of Corporations For Profits, but tomorrow this is a weapon both sides will use. Disrupting electrical is nothing new. The Allies put a lot of ordnance towards keeping German factories dark. We've all heard of the bullet holes in the high dollar electric equipment ( again, in California. Couldn't happen to a nicer place. I mean, seriously folks, how much more warning do you need? )
*
Surely, you've all heard of Puerto Rico ( yes, it's an island, and don't call me Shirley )? The power was out for months after the hurricane. Just as New Orleans still has neighborhoods full of soggy piles of former houses, going on past a decade, just as Afghanistan still isn't pacified almost twenty years on, the island will probably never regain its grid to the same degree it just had ( one imagines the tourist areas will be bright and shiny and the barrios not so much ). I'm not sure how much more proof you need that we are in a serious energy contraction.
*
But, you've seen nothing yet. We will transition from Acts Of God and Acts Of Contraction over to Acts Of War. Economic war, resource war, insurgency or war against the Indigs, it is all the same. And for you Ollie Ostriches out there, if you think an economic war is not being waged against you, do you think you can get your job back from a OtherGender or OtherColor? Why do you think it is so important that they push their ridiculous “2.9% unemployment”? You are being blamed for your unemployment ( “lazy White Bitches, full employment, stop being racist” ).
*
It doesn't take much to disrupt or destroy our past its pull date infrastructure. Already traffic is always gridlocked. Already your Internet speed is below dial-up as too many customers share too little equipment. Already water and sewer mains leak away without acknowledgment. I don't need to keep going on. You know the drill. Once conflict goes Full Retard, and you can bet your last jelly filled donut and your left testicle on it happening sooner rather than later, Service Denial is used by both sides.
*
What does it take to halt most shipping by semi truck in this country? On the part of guerrillas, it takes a few guys on overpasses with cinder blocks or if they want to get fancy, jellied gasoline. What does it take for the government to shut it down? Environmental decrees or taxes. You don't think the government won't deny Red areas with incoming shipments? All it has to do is get its Quisling asswhores in the state gov to go Full Environmentalist. You don't have to completely stop traffic, you just need to disrupt it just enough.
*
How hard is it to disrupt train service? You just need to knock out pins and move the rail somewhat. It is easily fixable, but it is rather disruptive. I could see the gov either hacking switch boxes or otherwise staging False Flags ( “we can't allow our trains in when the area is a hotbed of insurgents” ). Again, the government is also fighting a war with Soft Power in mind, and again, it doesn't mind killing innocent women and children to win the war. Food IS Weapon One. The Pretty People hate you, White Humpers. They will applaud your starvation.
*
I think it was Survival Prepping For Normal People ( over at Patron-link at my web page ) who brought up nuking Las Vegas in one of his Wacked Out Wednesday video's. You could probably do a better job just blowing up Hoover Dam. I'm not sure how insurgents could do it ( although perhaps taking out the generators would result in enough of a delay in electricity to turn the city into a ghost town ), but to the gov it would be nothing. Why do it? I'm not sure on that one-the state is already under Blue Belly control. But in the coming war, crap WILL get strange.
*
Remember the engineered Anthrax scare ( of course it was false flagged. There was a Patriot Act to ram through and countries to invade )? How about another one of those showing up in grain silo's? How about a worker crapping in the meat vat at a sausage factory? How hard would it be to get ideas from Edward Abbey ( “monkeywrenching” )? Aesop ( HERE ) has been coming up with a lot of great ideas on sabotage that make me insanely jealous.
*
It is easy peasy messing up everything, one only needs the balls. That doesn't mean you win. Because you think that the powers that be really care about their Blue Belly Buddies carrying their water for them. They certainly do not. Progs, PC'ers, commies, soy boys, all manner of traitors supporting the cause of anti-freedom in America, are mere Useful Idiots, and can be thrown under the bus at any time. Oreo Cosby, propagandist selling the softening of Black Hatred. Weinstein, now paying the price for bringing the world The English Patient, a fellow Jew Propagandist pushing cultural disintegration. Under the bus.
*
If the 9% Straw Boss people can so easily be sacrificed, what chance do all the Blue masses have? Well, granted, there are the upper echelon of the 9%, the 1% of the 9%, which Weinstein and Cosby were, and the rest which have sold out to retain their slippery status of middle class ( inflation being what it is, earning $30k is certainly NOT middle class anymore. Two household incomes of $35+, added to constant added debt, barely gets you there anymore ), but they are all equally vulnerable.
*
Don't think the 1% ( the real 1%, not the 1% of the 9% ) won't false flag Blue areas to blame the Reds, either. What do you think the Black Shirts are doing? They operate, mostly, in Blue Urban Zones. Who do you think funds these people? It didn't end after King Kenyans reign was over. He just Virtue Signaled to the 9% what has been going on for decades. It was more subtle than blowing up an orphanage and blaming a Deplorable ( as in OKC ). Since Caspers are racist, just for being born, and racism caused OtherColor poor behavior, all NonWhite crime is their fault. So, Blues being attacked are blamed not on the attackers but on Whites.
*
We already lost Hearts And Minds, and yet we are sandtable planning rebellion in our own echo chamber. Do we think this is going to be a winning strategy? Sure, we can disrupt our electric power along with the Blue city. So what? We ignore Soft Power while planning to crap in our own bed. That is already losing. The only alternative I see is full on Mau Mau cleansing, but have you noticed how the feds have already denied secessionists water access? That is a good enough point to stop at for today. Continued tomorrow.

services denial

SERVICES DENIAL
In a conflict, you in essence line up against each other and shoot away. Yes, I'm aware of the nuances and I did indeed say “in essence”. I'm aware this is how second generation warriors fight and I know this is the exact way you DON'T fight if you are an insurgent. Don't pick nits. The point is, armed conflict in its many manifestations. But fighting? Fighting is for testosterone filled idiots. Not to disparage half of mankind, because as guys we love to fight even when we know it is a losing battle. Fighting is natural and good.
*
But if you look at it Big Picture, fighting is a given and takes little talent ( experience helps much more. Training just helps the odds of surviving to get experience, but can be a placebo also ). Logistics is far more important, but sadly, is a really scarce talent. If you look at say, Gustavus Adolphus, that boy knew logistics. He made social and economic changes at home to change with the new military tactics and strategy of the day. The other national leaders who succeeded were simply smart enough to follow his lead.
*
Sherman fought his war against the enemies logistics, not the Southern army ( as an anti-Federal I don't care for the mans actions, but looking at it from a military historians viewpoint, the man was a genius. I'm not sure the extent of Grant's help, but thankfully the book by BH Liddell Hart finally came down to a reasonable price, which I ordered, and I'll soon glory in the details ). It doesn't matter how fierce your opponent is, without ammunition and food, he soon becomes a whimpering pussy. The US war machine in World War Two was a hideously incompetent organization, barely better than the Soviets in practicing human wave assaults.
*
But they did do a few things rather well. One was the Island Hopping which focused on denying the Japanese logistics support ( and focusing on Merchant Marine shipping to the same end. Sadly, probably our Navy's last great moment besides turning the fleet to nuclear power-although even that had knock-on effects of more dangerous civilian power and the wastefulness of the non-replenishable resource. And yes, Oppie Optimists, there are alternate systems, but we invested in the least efficient and are stuck with it ).
*
[ Let us take a pause here to study that closely. We ARE stuck with legacy systems. It doesn't matter how poor the idea is now, we don't have the economic or resource muscle needed to replace what is already here. It doesn't matter how inefficient our suburbs are now, we cannot replace them with another arrangement. So we keep pouring more oil into transportation to sustain that housing stock. After THAT, which is already obvious, we simply delete the jobs the suburbanites had, so there is less need for transportation. The same is true with nuclear energy. We built up an entire industry which we cannot afford to replace ]
*
[ The Soviet Union employed the same inefficient nuclear power generating systems. After their collapse, the entire system had to be replaced with one that used less resources. For instance, the new military could not afford to be heavy tank centered. You see now a lot of units employing their version of insurgents “technicals”. As far as nuclear power, they went from the old system that sucked up fuel to one that recycled it and/or ran spent fuels. The development was paid for by resource savings ]
*
[ The Soviet Union collapsed with a huge energy sector intact. The US system has been under a system of energy depletion just shy of fifty years. Fracking Fuel is low net energy fuel and does NOT constitute an energy increase. The Russians had energy to invest to save energy. We did not, and do not, and will not. Hence, we are stuck with whatever system we already had. “Would-a, Should-a, Could-a” is mental masturbation at this point. It is just another lame attempt to keep hubris alive, to think we can change that which we are stuck with ]
*
In the coming Balkanization of 'Murica, logistics are going to be paramount. The normally AR centered crowd of Red Freedom Fighters do acknowledge this. Obviously we have a huge new generation of combat vets, and they seem to be rather well versed in logistics ( one would be, with the amount of crap moved around in Afghanistan ). Unfortunately, it is combat logistics of a superficial nature ( but, thanking one's deity for small favors, at least it is something ). It is along the lines of “Red America BUILDS everything, and the Blue Belies are stuck in urban zones we surround and they need OUR supplies”.
*
Of course, there is a LOT wrong with this view. Whatever insurgents can destroy, so too can Federals deny ( which is at the heart of this article ). And like all true SHALLOW logistical studies, infrastructure is assumed rather than questioned. The biggest factor ignored, by both sides, is energy. Just like the population in general, energy is assumed to be a national birthright, rather than the colonial treasure that it is. This will trip up both sides. The side that recognizes and works with this will emerge victorious.
*
Peak Oil isn't JUST the cause of the collapse, ignoring it is the cause of your demise. If you are involved in the insurgency on either side, it is the key to victory. Now, it would be easy to declare the Reds the winner, already, because the Blues entire structure was enabled and predicated on controlling the energy flow at the beginning of the Oil Age, which is faltering. But like the Russians, you also need energy to begin with to replace your energy infrastructure. So the conflict is anything but a sure thing for either side. It could come down to who screws up the least ( one wonders how true that is for most conflicts ).
*
Don't think this is just going to be a treatise on the dangers of Peak Oil. I'm focused more on how the system is going to be used by both sides against the other, using the collapsing energy starved infrastructure already in trouble. For instance, taking the electric grid in Northern California. These past fires were caused by the break down in maintenance. As a result, there will now be preemptive grid shut downs. One should see the writing on the wall here. This is corporate warfare, a denial of services in retaliation of damage lawsuits. And that is just a small start. I'll continue tomorrow.
( addendum-Hart writes if a very flowery but stilted manner.  It was all I could do to get through the first hundred pages-and its not a short book.  Just beware the style of delivery if you buy this book )
