pink slip poker 2

PINK SLIP POKER 2
Can you liquefy your assets?  Can you dump the home right next to the big city?  Can you flee now, to a better location?  Now, in all honesty, I cannot say with complete certainty that this will be our last and biggest economic downturn.  It sure feels that way, but since not even I, on my best hair day, can time the collapse, you are always going to be rolling the dice.  I think it would be worth taking a financial loss to flee and relocate, but that was just me during the last collapse, with my own money.
*
I’ve never had an issue taking a financial beat down, but I’ve never looked at spent money as an investment.  It was just pissed away, gone forever.  I thought trying to keep a trophy of that transaction was just a futile gesture.  And, yes, you will feel that way soon enough as money loses its power for trade.  I just can’t say WHEN it would be a mistake to continue clutching at old outdated investments.  But the dollar WILL die.  That is baked into the cake, and the only reason the US empire lasted longer than most was the excess resources.
*
Peak Iron Ore was 1959 ( don’t quote me on the exact year, it was late 50’s ).  Peak Silver 1998 ( globally, 2008 ).  Gold production has already peaked.  Peak US conventional oil was 1971 ( if you go by EROI, no, we are not pumping anywhere near those levels now-more like one sixth if not less ).  Globalization was basically colonizing the rest of the worlds resource production.  Well, you know THAT is failing.  Simply, the resource base is contracting.  As population increases.  How do you see a happy ending with this?
*
The Club Of Rome was pretty close in their projections, as it turned out.  Not bad for a pre-TRS 80 computer.  So, yes, all the 1970’s panic was indeed justified.  Why haven’t you panicked?  I can’t say this next downturn is the last one.  All I can say is every recovery in the last fifty years has been a miracle.  All of them in the last twenty were divine intervention.  Do you really want to bet on one more recovery?  Prep supplies are of course needed, but they are also easy and cheap.  Have you insured yourself against the monetary system breaking while the political system has yet to?
*
It would be swell to think your pink slip is on the same day as the last day of western civilization.  But more likely there will be a brief period of unemployment prior to the lampposts bearing the slimy burden of a systems cleanse.  It is in the interests of the elite to keep the system going, if for no other reason than a whole lot more unemployed White gun owners will be unhealthy for those in power.  We won’t rebel until there is nothing left to lose, despite the fun fantasy to the contrary.
*
Optimistic Ollie’s keep spouting off about us going to war to save the economy.  Which hasn’t worked since Vietnam ( if war stimulus still worked we would be rich and fully employed from occupying Afghanistan almost two decades ).  But who else might be able to go to war to divert their population from rebelling?  China.  Who has the infrastructure to control the middle east and Africa, should we be unable to project naval power?  China.  It is in their best interest to encourage the abandonment of the PetroDollar.  They get the whole hemisphere.
*
It is in China’s best interest to appease us until we become as impotent and weak as the last world empire.  But they also cannot risk internal unrest a severe economic crisis could cause.  They already have social unrest from gender imbalances caused by the One Child Policy.  Violent young men being neutered is one thing, you don’t want to pile on poverty to that.  At some point the Chinese will step up to cripple us so that they save their economy.  My guess is cyberwar crippling the nukes along with the economy ( or subsidizing  internal rebellion to distract the military ).
*
The Chinese have no interest in invading us, or nuking us.  Their nuclear arsenal has always been so small as to only be defensive.  It is easy to embrace hubris when you are alone and miserable.  But it isn’t JUST about us.  Remember about globalism.  Our economy is NOT so great that we control the world any more.  Their actions will end up controlling us.  We have been in the process of trying to asset strip the rest of the world to hang in there economically, and all we did was weaken that global economy.
*
Think about the derivatives market.  A much smaller one with less loses almost already imploded the global economy.  Do you want to bet against THAT?  Look, all I’m trying to do is point out that this time around a recovery really doesn’t look probable ( but of course, always possible ).  If I’m right, you have little time to downgrade your lifestyle and positively invest your last financial assets before they disappear into computer black holes.  Is it really a good idea to keep paying for a house within ghetto looting distance?  Wasted money.  Rent?  Wasted.
*
We all waste money.  That is mostly how our economic systems rolls.  And there really isn’t much harm in it, if you are already insured against unemployment.  But if you are living paycheck to paycheck, that is a different story.  And we can all easily get into debt, even if it is only short term.  The trick is to minimize the level of danger in either.  Debt with a mortgage means you can be homeless, because few of us can save enough money to continuing paying that.  Mortgages, car payments and insurance have exploded so far upwards, they are all a suckers bet anymore.
*
A house WAS a good idea, once upon a time ( except in California, most times ).  Not when the median income is $30k and the median house is $300k.  Even Honda and Toyota legendary car quality is starting to slip noticeably and quickly ( the earthquake economic effects finally being felt first in the Perpetual Depression Country ), and the rest of the globes cars were complete crap long ago.  CrapClownCars, brought to you with pride by Windows OS.  Given how much cars now cost, with the low to no quality, they are now a terrible idea ( at least new ).
*
Medical “insurance” is such an obvious scam for worthless to outright dangerous returns that is needs no discussion.  ALL of the three huge money pits you stay in the cities for ( few jobs elsewhere, not coveted by desperate Mexicans ) are absolutely NOT worth a warm bucket of spit.  These are the costs you will be burdened with if you play the old game of unemployment by their rules.  Do.  Not.  Do.  It!  It is a zero return suckers game.  And it has no future, given how inflation doubled the costs in a few years, and inflation isn’t anywhere near as bad as it is going to get.
*
Jingle Mail, car repo and dropping insurance like a red headed stepchild dangling from the attic window is all well and good for a plan.  BUT!  What is Plan B?  Have that figured out now.  Is your savings in the bank, or is it triple bagged in a plastic jar buried under the large canine’s doghouse in the back yard?  The banks WILL restrict the amount you can withdraw, at the first whiff of grapeshot.  Morally, they are thieves.  Legally, they can get away with that.
*
I could continue on strategies, but you all know the drill.  Junk land, wheat, ammo, silver and no debt whatsoever.  The important part now is to decide how dangerous physically it is to stay in the city, and how dangerous financially it will be shortly.  Then invest as your situation allows, to get off the rat wheel.  I’d rather live on minimum wage in a beat down trailer on my own junk land rather than driving a BMW into the city to pay for my mansion and trophy wife.  One is the past paradigm and one is the future.

note: an upcoming movie which looks like a geriatric romance.  John Lithgow, so how bad could it get ( although, after a decades long career of awesomeness, former Could Do No Wrong  Denzil Washington turned out a stinking turd in "Equalizer 2", proving yet another Times Are Nigh moment, so who knows about John )?  But, the important part, it has prepper elements.  I'm sure they'll screw it up, but at least in the trailer click here it looks promising.

  1. Yes Jim, the Minions need to formulate plans for a deeper than expected collapse, depression or sickly longer greater recession. Unemployment, food stamps, etc. May not be available to triage your economic recovery awaiting a chance at a return to an income earning citizen. The new normal will be like old depression era photos of able bodied milling about with no work, no gov't aid benefits, and only the religous folks providing soup lines to keep the destitute actually alive. If the government loses grip on civil order and does not quickly carte blanche(spend) as much support and benefits to stave off unrest the wheels will fly off an already rickety society. Unfortunately I don't perceive a nice quick collapse and reordering of things. It will drip along for months and years tying up the hospice bed space for too long. This new paradigm of events and circumstances can occur at anytime, and last the remainder of and well past your natural lifetime. Plan accordingly.

    1. Right. By definition, five hundred year Dark Ages don't allow for much recovery.

  2. Good point. Turd World moves to you. I worry about Mexicans here. At what point are they going to take over? The Yuppies move with the money, but really, so do Latinos. Am I worried enough to move? Not even close. Thank goodness. One small favor, anyway. Not that I care if I have to move, junk land is the same anywhere. It would just be a PITA.

  3. Recovery will soley be up to you...
With a little help from your friends, if you have any...
Rule of three always apply too.

  4. With all due respect; you keep harping about "junk" land but I question where you perceive it's to be found. I've followed your link to the AZ flatland at $900 or so for a half acre and I wonder how viable that would be. When I looked for land in AZ some years ago I learned there was usually a good number of restrictions on how it could be used. I've spent most of my life looking for land without restrictions on use, size of structure required, etc. and have never found such land to be all that inexpensive. If you know of a place to research I would sure like you to share.

    1. Almost every piece of rural Texas land ( outside city limits ) has no zoning restrictions. I don't recommend west Texas, as the severe water issues combined with very long distances( car reliant ) and the crime and illegal immigration don't really justify the cheap prices. But Texas is a big place. Lots of high unemployment regions with cheap ( er ) land. Arizona sucks for zoning. Nevada counties differ. Elko county is great with relaxed zoning. You just can't put more than one family structure per acre ( ignored by most Mexican dudes, BTW ). You don't need a building permit for a structure under 200 Sq ft ( but it is a high property tax state, so beware ). Utah sucks if you are poor-I'd avoid. New Mexico you need two acres to get a septic, and you both need to import a job and it helps to not be White. Missouri sucks with that minimum sq ft house. Sometimes no mobiles. That is about as far as my research goes.

Sad, but true. Several years ago I set out to find such areas that were unencumbered by such regulations. Since I’m in Commiefornia, where you can’t wipe your butt on your own property without having to pull a permit, I thought that it was just something that was more or less exclusive to this screwed up state. While I did find that there are the rare places where you can still get away with this sort of thing, such places are indeed rare. Usually they are in areas of states that are so remote, that they simply cannot afford city services that oversee such projects. Which I know sounds like a good thing, and it is, assuming that you do not need an income. Otherwise, you will be facing a really long commute.

Sorry, I know that this is not be the most helpful answer anon, but the conclusion that I came to is that you will, in all likelihood, have to go the “stealth”, or “outlaw builder” route, on most of the junk land that you will be looking at. Obviously, you must manage this in a way as to not draw any unwanted attention to yourself. If it were me, I would also not put too much time, effort, or cost, into any such project, on the off chance that you do get caught. You want to be able to walk away if need be, without too much pain.

I always hesitate to plug for this book, since the dude was a bit of a commie nut job. But Bill “We never went to the Moon” Kaysing, published a book by the title of:

      https://www.amazon.com/Great-Hideouts-West-Idea-Living/dp/0915179628

I seem to recall that there were a good many ideas put to use in this book, by folks that simply had no way to be able to afford conventional housing; the alternative being homelessness.

    3. It varies in TN as well, however, some counties have no zoning of any kind outside of city limits. Not really much in the way of "cheap", but the property we just bought has only one permit needed and no zoning or codes to have to follow. Keep looking.

    4. I'd be surprised if any land is within "junk cheap" range, given the population and smaller areas.

    6. Location, population, climate-all pluses with OK. Taxes suck, but probably just the same suck, differently. I had no idea on zoning. Thanks.

    7. The potential for future neighbors is the deal killer for me. Seems the only way to protect yourself from the assholes is to throw giant coins at it and them things don't grow on trees. I can deal with building and zoning codes because they can be figured out and used to your advantage. Asshole neighbors are a whole nuther animal and the only way, that I haven't tried yet, to deal with them is a high velocity piece of metal through the pineal gland. My level of loathing and disgust of people in general is only exceeded by my need to be left the fuk alone.

  5. I still remember when your talk of ROI finally got through my thick skull. Yes there is fracking oil and tar sands oil but how much does it cost to get that stuff into gasoline. The same for all of the ores and other materials. We are screwed.

  7. re:
    Moon walking(s)

A YouTube video questions the ability for astronauts to retain any hearing.

According to NASA documents, the rocket engines generate enough noise to permanently deafen any living thing within TWO miles.

This is the reason no observer is allowed closer than THREE miles.

That amount of noise is disabling. No human can function at 215db plus. Can you imagine standing on the deck of an aircraft carrier with an intermittent 130db? Multiply that by several thousand to get a constant 215db plus for many minutes.

According to the chart at decibelcar, eardrums rupture at 195db.

And yet, astronauts are just a few feet from the engines.

Of course, all this is second-hand information... and is inherently suspect. I wasn't there, I don't know.

And how does it change the immediate need to prep more?

    1. Knowing this changes nothing with prepping ( unless not trusting the government even more is helpful in your plans ). What this does is train your brain to question everything. That is a helpful skill, getting more paranoid and more in touch with Lizard Brain. The point of jogging isn't because that itself accomplishes anything. We aren't going to run down wounded game. It just trains your body to do other things better. Same with brain training.

Keep on repeating the basics because it all boils down to the basics. Some of us are dopes and need the repetition for it to sink in.

  9. One town I had my eye on for a long time. It met all my criteria and it was Kurt Saxton approved (I've been at this for a long time... well playing at this). Anyway, the gov dumped a whole bunch of refugees in the town sans support networks. Said diversity enriched the town to such an extent that a guy I know who fled South Africa where he used to carry 24:7 said that this town reminds him of where he fled.

Christchurch was another place I had plans on moving to (really emigrating to). Yeah, nah. There's nowhere to run. What really gets up my goat is that the terrorist who shot up Christchurch did so to drive home the message to whites (hey, I didn't get to choose the colour of my skin so I ain't apologising for it) that there wasn't anywhere to run to. That ticks me off no end. That some prick shooting unarmed people gets to get what he wanted

  10. I think you're 100% right with China, though they may send all of their young men down to Africa to "help" it economically. I have to use "help" because colonize is a bad word. That will allow them to wait out a collapse here so they can be king of the world.

    ReplyDelete

    1. It doesn't seem like they are doing anything different than we did in the 1950's. They are just avoiding a cold war which drains them economically so the "help" lasts longer than the 20 years ours did.

  11. That might be the message, but another one is "please put me on your lamp post list". Hopefully one day we can oblige.
