tribe how 2 of 3-article 1 of 2 today

TRIBE HOW 2 ( article 1 of 2 today )
Sometimes too much intelligence in your fellow tribe members is very dangerous.  They start thinking too much, or worse, have their gal start thinking too much on their behalf, and they start wondering why they need you around, eating up what used to be your food but now is regarded as their food.  Make no mistake, people use NO rational logic when it comes to justifying treating others poorly.  It is an emotional justification, it isn’t right and it isn’t just.  And seeing something they want or something they need, they will use any justification for theft.
*
But don’t judge, obviously, because you will be doing the exact same thing.  Humans are Opportunistic Predators.  All of us.  That is how we evolved.  When we overcome this programming it is only because it is prohibited culturally.  And it is only ever prohibited culturally against fellow tribesmen ( whether that tribe be a tribe or a clan or a nation ), NOT non-tribesmen.  And anyone who objects to this on moral or philosophical groups is trying to change biology.  I don’t care how pure their motives are, that is no defense against being a dumb ass.
*
So, when Prepper Guru’s paint non-tribal members engaging in a little bit of the ultra-violence, of being “guilty” of Opportunistic Predators, as evil and wrong, they are basing this judgment on moral grounds.  But they have no realistic rational basis for that conclusion.  People ARE people and they WILL be people.  You must treat people as they are, not how you want them to be.  You might want respect of property rights and folks treating you with respect.  What you get is anyone who is stronger than you dry humping you until you are dead, and then they keep humping the corpse.
*
Might makes right.  Get over it.  To dissuade your fellow tribe member from ever thinking of screwing with you, you cannot count on gratitude.  You need other emotions working in your favor.  Fear and dependence will work nicely, usually.  He can steal your food, weapons, ammo and supplies and not need you for that.  No, he needs to be dependent, and at the same time fearful, of your violence.  Not against him.  Against others.  Any non-tribal member, you go overboard on the hate and violence.  No mercy, extra helping of hate and discontent.  SEEING you will teach him.
*
To his face, you are cooperative and helpful, forgiving of mistakes.  And that would usually convey weakness.  If he was thinking of canceling your tribal membership.  But if you are busy bayoneting babies, and engaging in other uber-violent activities, well, he is subconsciously convinced you shall never be trifled with.  And, since you are the apex predator, you are also helping him survive since he is on your side.  Just like when dealing with women, If You NEED You BLEED.  You never need him, but he needs you.  And fears incurring your wraith.  This is easy and cheap, on your part.
*
Easy, because this is the natural warrior way.  Protective and loving of tribe, dangerous to the enemy because you don’t NEED to live to protect your tribe.  Now, I’m not saying this transition will be easy or simple.  Like all skills this takes practice.  The first time trying to kill someone, because it goes against cultural programming, you’ll either get yourself killed from hesitation, or you’ll make a mess of it from ineptitude.  You’ll probably puke over your shirt front or crap yourself from stress.  Luckily for you, you understand the optimal solution on surviving the collapse.
*
Optimally, and no, I make no mistake assuming most of us will be able to achieve this level of preferable prepping, you go to ground and hide out for the month that society takes ripping itself apart.  As I’m sure most will be unable to get out far enough from society to be completely cut off from people, there will be stragglers  and interlopers.  Fresh meat for your On The Job Training to become less of a wimpy stockpiler and more of a warrior proficient in more than just killing paper targets.  I’m not being dismissive of any one person here.
*
We are mostly all spoiled, talentless in martial abilities, luxury wallowing soft marshmallow men.  It is the culture we grew up in, unless you were raised in the ghetto or hollers and had a more violent than normal upbringing.  We might be able to “Harden Our Hearts” between now and the outbreak of hostilities-in fact, you had better be able to-but that doesn’t make you a bad ass.  To go from willing to able takes experience.  You need to pop your cherry.  There are a lot of myths and BS out there, so I’m not sure which is correct.
*
“Your first time killing is the worst”, or “You never get used to it”, amongst others.  I have no idea what is true or not.  I can guess that killing is actually natural to our nature, and only cultural prohibitions keep us heeled, but I can also guess that regardless of the details, you MUST have training.  You need to train through the hesitation and train in the steadying of nerves.  Practice makes perfect, and the perfect time to get this training is on your terms rather than that of the enemies.  You fight him on your turf, not his.
*
If you are hiding out in the boonies, you can pick the time and place optimal for you to attack and ambush.  The first kill, I’d go for the easiest target.  A lone old guy would be fine.  He’s had a good life, stop stressing.  Okay, sure, a heavily prison tatoo’ed gang member all alone, or with a female sex slave would be much better, there being no moral prohibition and indeed a social decree to kill him, but don’t get too picky.  If you are killing a gal, make sure she is ugly.  A pink hat would be bonus points.
*
I’m kind of sort of being funny, but I’m also serious.  You need to not only learn to kill, you need to learn to be a vicious threat to everyone, not just those deemed a worthy target by the pope.  It isn’t what people are that matters ( male or female, young or old ), it is who they are ( anyone NOT of your tribe ) that makes them a target.  If you can’t waste an enemy female, why is the female instigating your attack in your tribe going to be afraid of you?
*
To be clear, an established tribe is NOT the same as a tribe struggling to form.  The infant tribe will be a threat to you until or unless you get everyone Scared Straight.  We continue tomorrow.

  1. Following along. I think the hiding out and await time will be more likely two months or much more. Although the cities or contested valuable territories may be burnt over and stabilised by controlling forces (organized government or new instituted state structures) there will be still too many enemy elements out and about gnawing on the remaining bones of the once larded up society. Minions should consider both a large enough cache and stockpile of course for such a long hiding out. Also it will take as long to winnow people down to better base stock for any tribe building.

    1. At the same time, I think both a month is optimistically long, AND I'm worried it isn't. You could very well be right. The month is based on maximum pessimism. I hope I'm right to stomp and spit on anything smelling of optimism, but then, Murphy's Law either way.

  2. After the shooting starts the thing you will most regret having overlooked will be pre-dug holes to quickly cover the bodies. Can you imagine the overwhelming task of having to bury a dozen or more?

And a few 100lb bags of lye.
Next year you'll be able to grow sunflowers on those holes.

Think of the cities as places where you drop pebbles in the pond. The ripples outward. The bigger the cities, the farther the ripples extend.

Extreme geo items will slow the charge of the hordes, ie., mountains, large bodies of water, etc. Ex-army engineers like me know how to identify and take out primary access points, slowing the hordes down and creating choke points for ambush.

In Germany I learned that in areas where the land was steep, years prior, the army had installed manholes in the roads at critical points that could be loaded with cratering/shape charges and blown out causing advancing forces to have to turn around and as they are turning they are caught in a crossfire of machine gun and mortar fire.

My understanding is that all of europe was set up similarly. As a matter of habit, even now, I am always looking at roads in the US that I drive the same way - places that could be good choke points.

    2. One wonders if Merkel was more a Russian Communist plant to permanently destabilize Germany so as to never be a threat again, rather than a Soros pawn.

  3. Snare ended rope lengths. Just lasso a limb, drag far enough away from a.o. Check bodies for valuables, good boots, etc. Let dogs and carrion do clean up. No spare time or spare calories for digging. P.S. plan about 90 days +/- holed up time frame. It will take as long for all those loose ends to get tightened up. A lot of details involved in a Post collapse.

  4. Hey Jim, have you seen the new Mora neck knife? It’s not something that I’m personally interested in, but I know that you’re a fan of Mora knives. It comes with a firesteel too.

    1. I don't mind Mora in stainless, although I prefer the carbon knife ( nice price at $15 ). But they seem a might too proud of this one. Although, I guess if it is a necklace you'd probably prefer it stainless with all that heat and moisture. Thanks, I'll have to ponder that. I don't leave the house without a knife, and they are everywhere inside, but it is an option.

    2. I got two of the standard Mora knives from the sportsman’s guide, some years back, for $15. I never really used them, but it seemed like a good deal even then. I’ve found that with neck knives, if they weigh much more than 1.5 to 2oz, they tend to be a bit too cumbersome for me. But I do believe that the fellow in the youtube mentioned that this one provides the option to be used as a belt knife as well. Here in Commiefornia, neck knives are illegal (Well, technically they’re not, but they must be worn outside the shirt, which defeats the entire purpose of having one).

    3. Okay, I know I'm old, but damn, in Cali I was able to ride my motorcycle without a helmet. And now even a two inch knife cannot be concealed? How low the mighty have fallen.

    4. We’re the same age Jim, but it’s been so long ago on the motorcycle helmet law, that I can barely remember when you didn’t need one.

For knives, at one time, I do seem to recall that under a certain length, they were allowed to be concealed (Fixed blade only; doesn’t apply to folding knives) and double edged under a certain length as well. But the last I had looked, the laws had completely changed. Now, if it’s a fixed blade, no matter the length, it must be in plain site, or it’s a felony violation. I saw no limitation on length either, so technically, you could walk down the street with a Samurai sword strapped to you your leg. But I wouldn’t try it here with our police, lest they go all Stephan Clark on your ass :D

    5. Technically a lot of things are illegal, unless you are rich or a corporation. And technically a lot of things are legal, unless the cop says they are not. Interesting times!
