farm costs 3

FARM COSTS 3
One person needs to spend a minimum of $500 on food, the cost of a IBC tote full of wheat ( if you are the rare bird close to wheat farmers and you drive to a silo, the cost is probably a lot less ). It is going to be another two grand for a basic bolt action rifle and reloading components. Most folks, even with much smaller families than ever before ( because we pay full retail for ours but our Replacement Farm Implements get near free births down in Mexico for their anchor babies ), max out prepping for the family unit.
*
Because Princess Pam and Sammy Snowflake need “real” food. Really? Let the little Ass To Nose Digger go hungry for a few days and they'll be grinding up that wheat for you willingly, then fighting you for the scraps of crust. You damn White People complicate things so much. But say you can prep cheap, that you got a good peasant wife instead of a Yuppie Scum one. Jesus people, it's all pink inside. Go for a low maintenance one, not the best looking one. Your buddies can snicker, as their bachelor ass stays home on Friday night with Penthouse as a date.
*
Anyway, at a grand per family member at the cheapest, few of you have the budget needed. It is a real struggle prepping for the family. Not because you don't make good money but because you bought in a middle class lifestyle. Anyone can prep for a bottleneck event, unless they also want to live in luxury at the same time. Anyone can be self-employed, unless they want to be a self-employed Yuppie. If you can live on a alcohol-less college budget with an experienced adult income, you can do any damn thing you want that just seemed impossible from your SUV drivers seat.
*
Okay, call it about five grand for food and ammo for a family of four. And that is FRUGAL survivalist levels of expenditure. AND it is ONLY food, ammo and a couple of Sawyer water filters. No junk land with hovel, no cold weather gear. No back-up gear. To be much more comfortable and safer, I would call it a minimum of two grand per family member. Anyone joining your family to form a tribe is a minimum of a grand each ( and that isn't even buying a firearm, just its ammunition ).
*
If the idiots cannot even show up with a firearm, do you REALLY want them in your group? Remember, I'm talking NON family member here. For you to Tribe Up, it is going to be a minimum of a grand to get them equipped. Just food and ammo. You've already spend eight grand on a family of four. Now you must dig deeper and come up with another grand per member. Which is probably closer to THREE grand per male member because they will have dependents.
*
You think it is a good idea to take on bachelors? You better be ready for female politics and back stabbing, conflict between males over mating rights, or plan on raids to procure females. No society lasts long with an imbalance of genders. Those males young enough to fight effectively do the worst without mates, control wise. If you think your battle buddies have enough self discipline or religious backing to control themselves, you don't know dingus about human nature and should be in zero leadership positions. That would be like putting SJW's in positions of power.
*
So, far safer to spend three grand for another family rather than a grand per single guy ( unless you spend a grand per unattached female as well, in a numbers matching arrangement. It will work out- everyone but the Alpha's will then compromise with what is left available because no one wants to be alone. Of course, you'll need that extra third grand anyway, because the new couple will start breeding. Welcome to tribal management 101 ). But for our math, it is three to one, dependents to combatants ( if you send females to fight [ last ditch home defense is another matter ] you are a moron and in charge of dead dudes walking ), four grand per soldier.
*
And that is JUST for a tribes defenses. Now you want to be farmers. The short answer wants to be “Minute Man farmers”, duel fighter/farmer. This can work, up in the mountains where the terrain helps in your defenses. In farmland, you need full time fighters because their needs to be both a defense and a offense, full time. Mountaineers need to also be offensive, but the largest push to clear out threats can be shortly after the die-off, when there is more calorie dense storage foods.
*
After that, half your fighters can be patrolling while the other half do all the heavy farm work. The flatlanders on the other hand, need a LOT more fighters, which need a lot more farmers which need a lot more land necessitating even more fighters. That is where scaling up needs to be to State levels. IF the land is already farmed and already has silos of food storage, you can get by with mostly just a military component of prepping ( the mountain folk need LOTS of stored foods because of the difficult soil and other conditions ).
*
And yet, I think the $3k per fighter figure still stands regardless of your location. Either a lot of ammunition for one location or a lot more food for the other. And you cannot try to emulate the 'Murican army and think that you can pay for an elite small force. You need quantity, not quality. First, because of the initial numbers you'll face and secondly for the casualties you'll see. No matter what, at your level of finances, there will be a serious lack of medical care from battlefield wounds. And serious health issues from lack of proper diets. No way can you feed each fighter three thousand calories of heavy protein ratios.
*
Not at first. Only AFTER you have lived off storage to build up your herd infrastructure. Now, how many fighters can you afford, at three grand per after your families eight? Bueller? If you are hiding up a mountain, and feel just four or five families could defend it, you are looking at twenty thousand dollars. NO ONE is going to be feeding themselves JUST off their homestead, not to begin with. First, you need to secure the area, then put a LOT more land into cultivation. Much more grazing area, much more raw land gathering inputs for your soil.
*
Tomorrow, concluding. Offensive livestock, defensive buildings, energy conservation building, increased land from decreasing yields, land for silage for winter and nitrate concentration, land for trade goods, woods for fuel and timber, quarrying-all showing how resource intensive a tribe is going to be living the typical survivalist dream.

    1. I used to have a stick up my ass. I are great Guru, hear me roar! I finally got over myself and realized humor teaches better, and I enjoy writing it more.

  2. Wierd source, but I read a book about the Rainbow people and how they feed everyone and provide some infrastructure at their month long wilderness free for alls. Infrastructure they create includes medical, latrines/sanitation, fresh water (often filtered through big Katadyn expedition filters in homemade PVC housings), feeding everybody, childcare, etc.
Tribe talk reminds me of this.
I would agree with your dollar amounts as the bottom limit. Adding people definitely drains resources quick. Previously adequate infrastructure suddenly becomes too small.
Ideally pick tribe that made it this far and managed to accumulate some resources. If they cant scrape together anything in the best of times, how are they gonna produce more then they consume in the best of times?
Way to pick topics no one else takes a stab at James.

    1. I might have to take a look at these Rainbow folk.

  3. Breeder reactors are actually fairly old tech which we could have had long ago. But gasp , they are also capable of producing bomb grade material. So to keep prices high in the defense industry they were lobbied against by both the tree huggers and the MIC as dangerous. Well , just as Orlov stated so are automobiles if operated incorrectly. Yet cars kill thousands every year because of incompetence.
The technology is there to save ourselves but capitalism and greed isn't likely to let it happen here.
We need more entrepreneur's like Elon Musk who look forward to the future. He knows the way is by looking outward ! Our solar system is chock full of untapped resources just waiting for us to come get them. Both Russia and China are forward looking and plan just that.
Meanwhile the MAGA tribe can only look backwards here. Hell their hero Generalissimo bone spurs doesn't even have a good grasp of even eighth grade history...
The libtards here are too busy licking fringe lollipops to care.
Let it crash , I'm too old to care anymore.

    1. The only old tech we can manage is fracking. We'd rather crash, the elite enriched, than take one cent out of the hooker and blow fund. Which will be our empires epitaph. Elon Musk blows my dingleballs. Just enriching himself off gov contracts and corporate welfare. What does he have on any 1950's space planner? Carry on, the collapse is in the mail.

  4. I read the entire article by Orlov about nuclear 'accidents'. It was very good.

I agree with him that people in the United States are being manipulated by the Chernobyl miniseries. The elite in power in the United States will do anything to keep their power even if it means making everyone in the United States poverty stricken.

  5. "Minute Man" farmers....

I'm not one of Adolf's cheerleaders but here was an interesting concept.
Interesting parallels to Williamm, the Conquerer, and how he placed Norman feudal barons at key points across England.
Similar strategy couple hundred years later with planting of fortresses along Welsh Marchland.

  6. Some astute analysis here - you must be drinking the high octane good coffee, :^) Thank you - a lot to read and digest.

I'm guessing that of family units, at least one will be having some resentments of "Why do we have to be here ?" will that one be enough reason to cast them out ? Or just the one ?

    1. There would be a non-zero risk that anyone cast out, or allowed to leave, or sneaking out, would be detained and questioned harshly by someone looking for a place with food supplies. I'd advise against letting anyone leave until the environment calms down.

    2. Therein lies the problem. If you can't kick them out, or kill them, what alternatives? Soap party?

  7. Wal-Mart generic and the like give the biggest octane boost-extra pesticides and artificial fertilizer :) No family from modern Oil Age era is going to do well as a tribe. How to cure that is conundrum indeed. I still say the father/husband is responsible for his families behavior. One warning, then enough punishment to reprogramming bad behavior. Sparing the rod, indeed.
