SAFE PLACE 2
As far as the concept of global collapse, I believe most of you too bashful to admit you’ve been riveted to my published pearls of wisdom for far too many years already know my answer to that. We might be in an oil glut right now but that is due to economic contraction ( yes, economic contraction compared to 2008. Back then banks had no liquidity due to derivatives bets imploding. They have plenty now. But with no jobs, nobody has money to buy anything-that is your deflation right there, not because of an oil oversupply due to surplus. You should be buying basics such as beans and bullets hand over fist right now. It won’t get cheaper, and it can change quickly. Already gun companies are going under due to lack of demand and those low prices are inventory clearances, as one example. Oh, and one of the reasons the PetroDollar isn’t complete toast right now? Nobody is selling enough oil right now to pay the bills. They can’t afford to drop us as a customer, even if we are paying in Greenbacks ) and NOT supply. Peak Oil is still very much a Thing.
This economic unraveling we are now experiencing? You know, the one that is going to be far worse than a decade ago? That could be what accelerates the end of the oil age. We might be still pumping, technically, the same volume of oil, but if EROI is as bad as they claim ( which, as painful as it is for me to admit as a paranoid cynical pessimistic doomer, might just be as blatently self-servingly exaggerated as all the Happy Optimistic blather out there from the Elite Approved Officially Government Sanctioned Main Media ) then this economic collapse could render all the oil extraction and transportation infrastructure inoperable. If trade collapses causing economies ( ours and even or especially China’s ) to halt, our military can no longer police ocean transportation and no banking infrastructure is there to enable trade payments. Trade halts, spare parts and fuel and money halts, and all the oil stays put, perhaps forever. And that, my fine feathered minions, is how the entire globe takes a giant dump simultaneously.
Some countries should be just fine, relatively speaking. Russia is largely self sufficient. China would immediately be unlivable as would the US. We are NOT the bread basket of the world anymore-you don’t get to be that after serious population growth, dried up aquifers, depleted soil and energy dependence. We are FAR too reliant on unimaginably grotesque amounts of oil to do anything, and we rely on 60-70% of our oil being imported. And even then we are one last PetroDollar away from Greatest Great Depression, famine and civil war. I’m utterly amazed at the complete obliviousness of so many supposedly Aware individuals who blissfully continue catalog shopping for Freeze Dried goat spleen, Green Tip .223 ammo, FLIR scopes and Rocky Mountain retreat property at screaming bargains in the MERE quarter million dollar range, while all these factors are lining up against our economy and our nation. If the End isn’t Nigh by now, I don’t know how they can possibly be given a clearer sign. Do they believe it when they are living in a cardboard box under a bridge, desperately fighting off cannibalistic raping hobo’s night after night with their Billy Bad Ass Arsenal, living off crank and coffee trying to survive without sleep?
If most of the globe ( sorry, I seriously doubt you will be welcomed to Russia ) is going down with the oil extraction and financing and especially extreme overpopulation, and it is silly to go there, anywhere, that leaves travel in the US. The question still stands. Should you move to an area already decimated, already under populated, so you can skip most of the collapse process? Let’s take the obvious example of Detroit. There are plenty of other examples but they are the poster child. Think that is a swell place to live? They have thousands ( if not tens of thousands-the actual number is astounding and should serve as a wake-up call to you how well built up this country was, and is now unable to keep up maintenance on ) of abandoned buildings you could live in and grow a garden in the surrounding soil. It is a lush area even if winters leave a bit to be desired. You could urban-stead there for a few hundred bucks in back taxes. Arm yourself against the legions of angry Black gangs and be your own law ( the police will show up only to arrest you for self defense, not the attackers, as you threaten their diminishing but appointed monopoly on violence and the gangs are too dangerous for them-one supposes even with Federally granted armored vehicles and armed SWAT teams. Welcome to forth generation warfare and the demise of the State ).
Sound like a winner? And by the by, Detroit on steroids but with far better music is what you’ll find in any Third World city. Like, say, in South America, the point of departure for these crazy rich misinformed expats. No, moving to an area already collapsed is certainly not the greatest idea. Crime is rampant even by regular US city standards and no matter how well armed you can’t overcome the numbers both of the criminals and the authorities ( bribing other cops is easy, in the US it is harder. They arrest you, seize your property, THEN expect you to come up with a bribe erroneously called fines or lawyer fees ). In economically depressed areas the police will harass you for revenue enhancement. You don’t want to be completely alone in the country due to attacks ( I’ll wager 100% of all Yuppie Scum Survivalists have a road to their super secret retreat, and fifty percent of them have power lines. Attackers just Follow The Grid ). That leaves as small of a town as possible as the optimal living area.
So the next question is, are small towns which have already collapsed a good idea? Continued tomorrow.

Small towns during and post collapse are not necessarily easy places to fit in and they may not be as crime free as people think.ReplyDelete
BUT it is certainly easier to learn where and who the problems lie with in small towns.
I would wager one round of beer or coffee and the lifers would gladly share the geopolitical situation locally. Well, okay, the beer drinkers might forget a few details.Delete
Depends. They will certainly tell you about the new methheads that moved in, but they might skip on telling you that the biggest meth dealer is the former Prom King and son of the all around good'ol boy and deputy mayor.Delete
My morning reading included the spike in deaths of white middle aged people, due to drug addiction, obesity, and suicide. The rates grow higher the less urban the area. Even if the area looks prosperous, shiny new truck, these areas are slipping into economic warlord systems. The very few family farms are now multi-million dollar out fits while the rest of the economy is minimum wage or food stamp wage. Getting a mindset where you can be happy not keeping up with the Jones is a must.ReplyDelete
I don't think Jones is a great role model for happy/successful life. Of course, don't try to keep up with the Idaho survivalists gurus either.Delete
Trying to "Keep up with the Joneses" is a recipe for unhappiness. A couple of anecdotes about how I woke up to myself. I couldn't work out how I wasn't faring as well as my co-workers (same job, same responsibility, my output exceeded theirs, I did far more overtime)Delete
1. First guy's hourly rate was 50% greater than mine & his housing was subsidized by the government.
2. Second co-worker. I couldn't work out why he seemed to be doing so much better than me. Same hourly rate, similar overtime. It came out that his father was a wealthy man who paid for his car and housing.
3. A lot of nice cars in the employees car park. The owners didn't earn more nor did they do ANY overtime. Finally worked out they were "kept" women whose weekly earnings were actually their spending money (100% of it)
Lord Bison has laid out a plan where those of us on the lower levels of society can prep. OK I'm not exactly on the lower levels but I'm dang close to slipping a few rungs.
Keep in mind BTN first then work towards a fully stocked Vault in the future. BUT get your Better Than Nothing first
FWIW I mostly typed that out for myself :-)
Bitches used to be stay at home ho's, now they have to go to work. Looking the productivity levels of most gals at work, though, I'd wager most just show up to socialize rather than work so I guess work for them isn't really all that much work.Delete
I resemble that remark about living in a small town that has already collapsed. 160/170 paying water bills and taxes. 10 years ago there were over 400. The state is looking at taking over the water and sewer situation that's failing as we speak. Saving grace for me is that the effective property tax is low because it's based on property values and they are in the dumperight. I have a shallow well that produces reliable water and still have the septic system in place in case it all just stops one day before I die.ReplyDelete
Sounds like a typical town that spent for those 400 never thinking the revenue could go down. Growth Uber Alles.Delete
Though we are looking for economical rural land we aren't optimistic so we will most likely be staying right there, way back in the sticks. I do wish we were about 100 miles further away from a major metropolis filled urban apes on krak.ReplyDelete
My neighbor and I are exploring the idea of building a 50'-80' tower on another neighbors property further up the hill. From that tower we will place our antenna and have an excellent view for placement of the MG. Then, there will be a 270 degree range of sweep out to 5000 yds. He owns a steel company so the materials will be inexpensive, using left over stuff from other projects. Just make sure the ground cable is good and deep.
There's only 2 ways into our place, 1 from the north (my end) and 1 from the south, and both are presently capable of being covered with heavy firepower continuously. Plus, if the going gets rough, I will rely on my combat engineering training to really make the place difficult to access. I'm not looking forward to whats coming, but I am prepping as I can. I'm old (62) but trying to ignore it. I got a goal. To keep on livin'. And as Josey Wales said, "Dyin' ain't much of a livin' boy." Onward.
Was that Josey Wales? I could have sworn it was from "Unforgiven". Ah, well, decades since I've seen either.Delete
Yeah, it was Wales:Delete
Bounty hunter #1: You're wanted, Wales.
Josey Wales: Reckon I'm right popular. You a bounty hunter?
Bounty hunter #1: A man's got to do something for a living these days.
Josey Wales: Dyin' ain't much of a living, boy.
I wonder why we all love Clint so. Perhaps the perpetual scowl towards the idiots of the world?Delete
nobody works for free? awe shit! I been doing it wrong all this time!ReplyDelete
It's okay to be a slow learner :)Delete
Anybody that's paranoid :) like me and hides preps usually doesn't have any tribe to rally around.not to worried about fitting in as all people should be avoided.ReplyDelete
I think being an introvert helps when avoiding most people. And you are alone with the best conversationalist you know. I wonder if an extrovert can't help but be drawn to socialize? They can't help it? Interesting to see who has better survival odds. The avoider or the joiner.Delete
Well, as I live and fart, James, you're still alive and at it. I'm surprised you haven't frozen. Still writing the same stuff over and over I see. Do you still have luxurious hair?ReplyDelete
Of course my hair is still fabulous you silly twat. Does the sun still shine? Do the birds still sing?Delete
