I don’t really believe that a huge chunk of the population has awoken to the dangers of Peak Oil ( Sweet Baby Jesus On A Tire Swing, it’s been over TEN friggin years already. The year it hit, I was buying Southern lots for a few hundred bucks. Those bargains are long gone, but you can still easily get junk land for $2k. That’s only four months renting a motel room at a converted fleabag. If cheap land is still out there, not enough people are panicking. But by all means, please, take your sweet ass time getting yours under the assumption it will always be there for you ). Not enough people have EVER panicked early and tried to avoid the rush. But I’ll tell you what I think spurred the huge gun sale increases we just all were astounded by. It wasn’t an increased awareness of impending doom. That is just a sound bite the commies like to brandy about as they cheer for their team, the Federales ( and the commies, the Coasters, the 10%, the straw bosses of the poor serfs [ debt serfs are a class above if they are part of the Elites Bitches, poor debt serfs are just dumb asses ], they are all anti-gun, and hence anti-prepper ).
And it wasn’t a mass militia movement. The grossly out of shape militia media warrior won’t ever follow up on their rhetoric, and the ex-military patriots won’t find enough professionals to be a clear and present danger. They might have all bought more guns, but I think their numbers are inflated. It is easy to pound your chest and proclaim that They will have to pry your cold dead hands off of your pimping plastic carbine, but that doesn’t make you a militia member, just a sad blowhard. No, I believe there was one overriding ( not the only, just the major ) reason that so many guns were sold during the First Kenyan’s reign and it was racism. Honkies are not as illiterate and retarded as is portrayed. They could easily see almost immediately the Get Out Of Jail card that Obammy issued to the ghetto dwellers. Every passing month that became more clear, and semi’s, mags and ammo sales sprinted ahead. If the Blacks were allowed to beat you to death and no Black police chief with the blessing of a Black president was going to even pretend to look for the culprits ( perhaps they are look alike to themselves, also? Okay, a joke in poor taste, but, what? You could have resisted? ), an urban equalizer was a damn skippy good investment.
Of course, you can’t ADMIT that is what you were a-skeert about, not even to your drinking buddies, so you just kind of played the Anti-Gun Liberal Card. Much safer, given today’s politically correct climate ( hey, I don’t hate black skin, I just choose to NOT live near a black culture that celebrates hating ME ). Even if there was an element of economic collapse fear, it was closely tied in with riots following the events. Go ahead, tell me I’m wrong. Nothing works as well stampeding the White Herd. To effectively Divide And Conquer you need a credible threat, and They are definitely that. Okay, so, many wonderful things happened during this time, industry wide. The once proud American gun companies learned how to produce much cheaper firearms. Yes, the quality suffered, but since nobody could afford much ammunition the odds were you’d never shoot your piece enough times to find this out. You could at least afford to protect yourself and that was the main criteria, not being able to pass down an heirloom to your heirs.
Another thing was, everyone and his brother started vomiting forth entire Third World Armies Arsenals worth of AR-15’s. During the shortages and high prices, quality did suffer on occasion even in the “better” brands, and there is a LOT of Nike Brand Price Penalty, but by and large everyone can either buy quality at an AK price or spend three quarters of that for an entry level unit. Yes, it will break off parts sooner. No, you don’t need to concern yourself with that. Buying a high priced better quality AR is a suckers game for a survivalist. Because, one, there will be a LOT of them for salvage ( you can bet that after all the mags and mag accessories and Pimp Daddy accessories, few will have enough finances for much ammo. After a time with a surplus of dry rifles around, they won’t be worth a whole lot )( this might be a good place to insert a word on steel case 223 ammo. Look over at the Lucky Gunner web site for their torture test. Short version, extraction wasn’t as big a problem, even though it was a factor, as throat and barrel erosion from the propellant. As in, after 5k rounds kiss your barrel goodbye. My point is that those cheap bastards saving a dime a round probably ruined the gun on their way to dying. A few months after collapse your issue is ammo, not the gun ).
And two, you shouldn’t be using the carbine as instructed. My hatred of the M-16 has lasted a lifetime and won’t ever change. It has a butt ton of positive factors going for it, all negated by tactical and logistical screw-ups and while it can be, carefully, used by the survivalist it should never have been a military standard rifle. But you, yourself, can make lemonade out of lemons if you pay attention to common sense and forget everything ever told to you by your government and anyone who ever listened to the government. The M-16 is NOT a good military carbine. A carbine which jams in dirt in the field is NOT something you want to bet your life on. A jamming carbine shooting a crappy round is even worse. What the M-16 does wonderfully is preserve forests, making for a happy eco-warrior, waste large amounts of ammunition, and serves as a submachinegun for troops whose only job is to act as a tripwire for artillery response ( I tried watching the movie “Patton” the other day and was simply amazed at the bullspit propaganda that so well masked the utter incompetent Army bureaucracy of that war and all others following it [ given the short period of conflict and the high casualty rate, WWI might have been even worse. I give officers a pass for the War Of Northern Aggression since they at least had the decency to die with their men ]. Our military has been and still is regardless of official protests to the contrary, fully invested in Second Generational warfare. A shame, I loved that movie when I first saw it ). Tomorrow, the new and amazingly cheap AR sniper rifle.
