moral authority 3 of 3

MORAL AUTHORITY 3

Before we begin, and too many readers make the mistake that this is merely a senseless glorification of violence and that I am channeling my inner Nazi because I am worthless and weak and need to act vicariously through fantasy writing, a gentle reminder to remove your head from your ass.  Man is-remember?-a opportunistic predator.  He is-wait for it!-a hairy ape.  Violence is as natural to man as it is to members of the animal kingdom who are not busy trying to eat grass.  Where religion and philosophy and moralizing and all the application of lipsticks on pigs come in is to both justify violence and channel it.  The bible does not say “thou shall not kill” but rather it proclaims “not MURDER“.  The difference being that you can kill only those on the approved list.  Amish and other pacifist are the equivalent of grass eaters.  They are gazelle.  If you want to eat meat, you need to kill.  If you want to eat the neighbors kill, you kill the neighbor, take his wife for your own ( the age old question of how to avoid inbreeding and banjo playing, answered ) and sell his coneheads into slavery.  This is not because the ancients were unenlightened or uneducated.  It was what worked.

*

Any survivalist writer who tells you differently is going to kill you with his “advice” ( an unmentionable popular blog just posted an article about “prepping for the soul”.  You’ve done everything to prep from training to beans to band-aids, now you need to prep spiritually.  One dictate was to stop hating those who would harm you.  WHAT!!!????  If you need to initiate violence against others, hate is the first necessity.  I believe the article was penned by a woman, by the way ).  Violence is needed to avoid violence.  You don’t get left alone because you are poor or pathetic but because you will force an adversary to pay too high a price to covet your possessions ( those with almost nothing were still preyed upon.  The northeastern Nevadan Indians, the land having enough rainfall for grazing horses, loved to raid the Las Vegas area digger Indians.  They were poor but there were still women and children for slavery.  Keep in mind the raid was 400 miles through arid desert on horseback-so the journey was obviously justified.  Historically infantry moves fifteen miles a day and horse thirty, assuming combat effectiveness is maintained by this pace, so the Indians had a month round trip at a minimum ).

*

It irritates me I must waste time justifying the historical norm, and hence the future inevitability, of violence.  But I can also consul myself with the idea that the few of you who “get it” will inevitable be rewarded with survival when you apply it.  The Yuppie Scum Survivalists who stockpile chainsaws and propane tanks because they want to “survive and THRIVE” are retards.  If you want to thrive, you kick everybody’s ass around you and give them every reason to avoid you-except for trade- in the future.  Thriving isn’t about Oil Age luxuries, it is about security and the ability to eat regularly.  These are the retards you are going to be dealing with in your fight to prepare.  Nobody willingly wants to see what it will take to truly survive.  Ah, the good old days when survival was simple bomb shelter vacations.

*

Everybody surrounding you, your wife and children and friends and neighbors, they are ALL going to deny that violence is necessary and good.  They are stuck on defense only as the sanctioned violence.  You can’t change their minds.  You can ignore the wife, beat the kids, butt stroke the community leader who pleads for understanding and tolerance, but if your monkey pack doesn’t allow and reward violence you are handicapped and probably a dead man walking.  Time to take up another practice from our hunter/gatherer ancestors and move away and start your own tribe.  That doesn’t mean leaving everyone right now.  Hell, where would you go?  Did you know that there are almost fifty cities in the US with over a million people?  I was shocked at that statistic.  I know we are overpopulated, but…damn!

*

Just as your job keeps you in a overpopulated area, it is going to keep you imprisoned in our current toxic culture.  The only thing you can do, other than move to a more sparsely populated area to at least somewhat tilt the odds in your favor ( living in Reno with 100,000 people sucks, but not nearly as bad as living in 1.5+million Las Vegas ) is to prepare yourself mentally.  You need to “psyche yourself up” now and be ready to move your tribe before things get too bad.  I’m not exactly sure how successful you will be pre-forming your core tribal members.  Outside of criminal gangs, how can you test, both in prospective members AND yourself, the ability to employ violence?  Most guys still retain the ability to talk tough, but how do you know they can walk the walk?  You might be faced with the inevitability of accepting On The Job Training as the only way of telling.  Just try to acquire a soft target to begin with.  You don’t go from pussy woman-soft marshmallow men to Warrior Stud immediately.

*

The important thing is that you know you must be proactive rather than reactive.  You must divorce yourself from the anti-violence types, or at least purge them immediately.  It is probably best to begin fresh with folks of the proper attitude, a shortcut in Darwinian selection.  But purging and scaring the sheeple into conformity can work also if circumstances dictate.  The whole point is to create an environment where the social mores welcome violence.  You must give yourself, wholeheartedly and without reservation, the moral authority to employ violence without thought or hesitation ( and as usual, remember that there are ALWAYS two sets of behavior you abide by.  One for the group, who is treated humanely and properly and by a strict set of rules all must follow, and another for everyone else who are treated as mere cattle to be used ).  Violence is like fire, and must be controlled, but like fire it is a very good tool.

  1. Your ending statements were IMHO exactly on point:
    1) "Violence is like fire, and must be controlled, but like fire it is a very good tool." Isaac Asimov had a similar quote "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent" (everyone at first thought the initiating character of the quote was a pacifist, until, quite competently he used violence to prevent a larger and longer conflict from occurring - just because violence is the last resort of the incompetent, doesn't mean the competent never use it- they merely use it where it is needed was the gist of his explanation.
    2) "there are ALWAYS two sets of behavior you abide by. One for the group, who is treated humanely and properly and by a strict set of rules all must follow, and another for everyone else who are treated as mere cattle to be used" Exactly so. And it is a two edged sword- an outsider cutting off your water supply will be dealt with as a threat, and killed quickly, a group member deliberately betraying the group by cutting off the water supply will be tortured to death slowly same crime, but different punishments based on group membership.

    1. Different punishments for friend and foe. Good point-those that betray a larger trust are punished more severely. That is what your ex wife did.

  2. Even the most passive pajamaboy will turn into a stone cold killer under the right circumstances. Man is the most violent killer and over the long haul the most successful. No, he has no claws nor fangs but he'll fashion a device so sharp it'll slit you from a$$hole to appetite right now.

Because I prefer semi-auto firearms I may be considered yuppie scum but I assure you I know how to use my equipment and when the time comes I'll lay down a hail of shrapnel that will cause everyone to run for their lives. And when I catch up to you I'll dig your eyeballs out and eat em like truffles.

I'm not interested in saving money I'm interested in saving me and past performance has shown time and time again that massive amounts of lead in the air is the pathway to the future.

Prior to that I'll be picking them off with my 308 bolt action at 1000yds. And when the horde gets right up on us the bayonets and folders will come out.

I don't want any of this. I want people to act like grown-ups to each other. But I don't get to make the rules for others. So I'll meet them on my terms, with extreme over-violence.

No, I ain't Rambo, but I have experienced moments where my inner animal was unleashed and it's a terrible thing to all involved. I am well aware that that thing lives inside everybody. Laying in wait.

    2. Agreed. Single shot, bolt, lever, whatever, is the best way to start out all the way around. Hell, when I was about 6 my dad's mother started me on the same gun she started him 25 years prior. A single shot Stevens .22.

After you've mastered that stuff then you move on, and on and on. I'm probably at my limit right now, financially speaking. I'd like to get into the big guns but I can't justify the costs. I'm talking Barrett's, Cheytac's, Windrunner's, etc. I already have a gun that costs $9 everytime I pull the trigger and I can't afford it. It was my dad's Pennsylvania deer rifle so I have to keep it. Winchester Model 71 .348 cal lever action.

    3. How is it that much to fire a rifle? I thought even a Barret, reloaded, was two or three bucks. Is custom brass that expensive? Or am I way behind on inflation like I was on flintlocks?

      Delete
    4. Cartridges for the gun I mentioned are very rare and therefore expensive. There is only 1 gun that fires the .348 round and it is the Winchester Model 71. Browning supposedly makes a version too but I understand it is made poorly and doesn't sell well. Everytime I go to a gunshow I look for the .348's and rarely find them but when I do I buy all the have. I even buy empty brass. No reloader company makes dies for the .348 that I am aware of. But somebody is reloading them because I bought 200 reloads at a gunshow 1 time about 12 years ago. That was back before I was interested in reloading and didn't think to ask the seller the details of how he did it. I imagine a machinist with experience could fabricate a die set, but it wouldn't be cheap.

I never priced 50 cal stuff so I was guessing it would be expensive.

    5. I think it was the last issue of Backwoodsman that had an ad for a company offering weird cartridge loading supplies. I can't double check as I gave the issue away as a gift. Sorry.

    6. I would be fairly confident about reloading just about anything using home made dies etc. I have done some weird and wonderfull stuff in the past. The 2 big issues apart from working up a safe load, is being able to chamber the round and I assume the above mentioned rifle has a tubular magazine, so the bullets need crimping. If you fire the rifle like a single shot, ie load one round at a time directly into the chamber you wouldn't even need to crimp the bullet. I'm assumeing the 348 is a rimmed case? Rimed cases are a lot easyer to improvise reloads as they head space on the rim ad as long as the case is chambered and the projectile is centered in throat of the chamberthe rest will look after itself.

    7. Yes, they are rimmed. You must be a young dood, I ain't. I'm hesitant to do anything even remotely risky with explosive materials. LOL

Met with my neighbor yesterday and we were talking about home made silencers made from vehicle oil filters and there's a company that makes the screw-on adapter for an AR. Unscrew the flash suppressor, screw on the adapter, then the oil filter. We talked about other things that required a metal lathe he mentioned he's gonna look for a used lathe. So we may be able to cut threads soon. Now, gotta talk him to getting a mill too, then I'll have my die!

I wonder if a slightly smaller but more common die, say a 30.06, could be reamed out to .348?

      Delete
    8. Yep I'm only 49yrs young, haven't blown a gun up yet and still got all my body parts functioning well enough, all things considered.

Us Australian gun nuts probably do more reloading comparatively than Americans as ammo is both more expensive and less available. As an example, I'm presently playing around with a reloading for a 16ga shotgun as ammo and reloading components for the 16ga is rare, and when is available the range is limited.

I have never dodgied up reloads for a bottle necked case, but I have done so for straight walled and shotgun cases. Rimless bottle necked cases are a bit tricky to reload as they head space on the shoulder of the case, and if you get that wrong the case either doesn't chamber, or the cas sits to deep in the chamber that it want fire or that you don't get a good gas seal which could be potentially dangerous to the shooter or damage the rifle.

Rimed cases on the other hand, just so long as the loaded case is the correct length, it doesn't really matter if the shoulder of the case isn't a perfect fit as the case will fire form to the case dimensions.

Being as your 348 is a leaver action it probable stretches the cases as back locking actions arnt as stiff and alow the case to stretch a little. So your main concern will probably be case length. If a fired case chambers in your rifle it would be pretty simple to dodgy up some tools similar to a lee load all hand loading set up. If I had to resize a rimmed case like the 348 I would probably drill out a rough hole in 2 pieces of hard wood clamed together, drill down were the 2 pieces of timber meet so that when you separate the 2 pices you got a half a shape in each. lath would be good but if you haven't a lath chuck a steal rod in a drill and carful grind it down to the exact size and shape of a unfired 348 case. making in effect a solid steal 348 dummy round, heat your dummy round to red hot then drive it into you 2 pieces of hard wood so it burns a exact copy of the case into the wood. This will be easyer if you drill out the hole a little smaller but as close as you can get to the correct size. Then simple carfully tap spent case into home made wooden die clamed in a vice unclamp the wood and you should have a full length resized case.

  3. You need respect, and NO one gets respect if they are not, at least at some level, just a little(or a lot), feared. You might respect your dear old granny that's got arthritis but I bet at some level that respect is rooted in the fact that if you pushed her to hard she would chew you a new one.

These last 3 articles encompass the differences between survivalist and scumbag green tree hugger organic gardener types. I have often pointed out to those organic gardener types that recon they can provide for themselves in a grid down situation yet don't own a gun that all they are doing is providing food and resources to some one else that will prey upon them. There eyes tend to glaze over and they go back to turning there compost and there happy thoughts.

If modern society does collapse, the world can not do any thing else but descend into violence. A few years pshtf after the dust settles some, there will be 3 types of people left standing, the very lucky, those protected by violent people and the violent people themselves. Most will be a combination of all 3, ie violent people with a heap of violent friends that got lucky. Really important to have stock piles of stuff and the skills but the single biggest prep you can make is the mental one.

The most dangerous time will be early on in the collapse when there is still a modicum of law and order, that's when you will hesitate fearing the wrath of the law. Once all the cops have gone it will be much more black and white rather than the shades of grey we presently live with. Treat me right or leave me alown and I want shoot you.

These last 3 posts address the mental side of survivalism better than just about anything else I have ever read. Thank you Mr dakin, keep the faith mate.

  4. The Bible on violence: Thou shalt not murder applies to all killing except self defense, execution by the governing authority for the listed capital offenses, and just war. When God ordered the Hebrews/Israelite's to wipe out certain tribes it was because their idolatry and other offenses were so offensive to God that He wouldn't tolerate it any more. Some people think it was just wholesale slaughter, but actually God gave some of the pagan tribes up to 400 years to repent, plenty of time by any standard. When God's own people turned from Him and towards the false gods, he sent the pagan nations in, the same one's who He would later destroy, to slaughter them and take them into slavery. When they were eventually brought into the "Promised Land," they were ordered to kill all the indigenous tribes lest they fall into worshiping their false gods. They DID NOT obey completely, and to this very day, have trouble because of it. As an example, if they had obeyed, the so-called prophet mo would have never been born because his ancestors would have been slaughtered. The admonition to turn the other cheek is clearly for an insulting backhand slap, not an actual assault.
    Peace out

It almost sounds as if the scenario that you're describing James is one of a brutal rural gang (Think The Humungus vs the folks living in the compound from the Road Warrior) and honestly, if it gets that bad, few here, or elsewhere for that matter are going to survive it. Not trying to be a buzzkill, just a realist. Modern man is just too soft. It will take a die off, and probably even a few generations before all of this modern pc nonsense is tossed aside, and relegated to the heap bin of civilisation before some semblance of a working model takes effect again.

The bad news (Or good depending on how you look at it) is that it's probably going to happen much sooner than later, judging from direction the upcoming political tide is going to flow.

    2. Nah, PC complaints inside the tribe will continue for a while. "why can't sally go hunting with the boys?" "why can't little bobby stay in and do the sewing and cooking?"
Sure there is room for role crossovers like the above in almost all societies no matter how far toward living like savages in the jungle they are. But setting expectations that those are the exceptions and that males and females have stereotypical roles in the tribe to fill for a good reason will take a bit to sink in. Probably a generation or two for it to really sink in.

    3. One can hope for that outcome James, and you may very well be right. The reason I said this was because I've noticed that for many years now that even amongst the more conservative groups, in the end, they're still your typical modern, feminist parents, along with the rest of society today. And of all the leftist movements, I'm of the opinion that this one in particular has hands down done by far the most damage to civilisation.

    4. I still think the die-off will be too extreme to allow the weak willed and weak minded to survive. In a 99.9% die-off, ANY PC BS will help kill your group-they have enough issues working against them as it is.

    5. Social Darwinism isn't very nice but it sure clears the deadwood out. Everyone points at Nazi evil why the concept shouldn't be acceptable but they ( and the Soviets and Mao's China ) had petroleum to mechanize murder into the millions. Post-oil, its just tribe against tribe and the advantages will once again outweigh any misuse.

  6. On short spurts, 30 miles/day on horse would be reasonable. Horse travel, over long distances, is going to tend to be more at 14 miles a day. The problem is when you can no longer carry the needed fodder with you. At that point you have to stop and let the horses eat, and that takes time.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I need to re-read my book on old timey logistics, where I got my original figures for consistant, historically proven travel distances. I can't remember the exact figures but seem to recall 15 miles infantry, 25 horse. For whatever reason, the exact figures are no longer remembered.

      Delete
    2. The distance a horse can travel in a day is such a variable thing dependant on so many different variables. The terrain, available fodder and water, how much weight the horse is expected to carry, the climate. 25 miles per day would be on the lower end of the scale for a slow lumbering army dependant on horse transport. Armys used to have heavy cavalry and light cavalry (think the charge of the light brigade) Heavy cav were big horse weighed down by big men carrying heavy weapons and armour and they were ment to do the majority of the fighting, light cav were smaller quicker horses ridden by smaller men caring lighter weapons and were used to scout and skirmish. If the main army traverled 25m in a day the light cavalry probably more than doubled that distance,

A relatively fit horse with plenty of feed should easily average 6 mph all day every day, 10hrs rideing = 60miles. Start loading him up with to much weight and that distance decreases. But there have been plenty of incidences were cavalry were sent of on long journeys of 100 miles or more, like most people after an extreme days exertion many of those horse would pull up lame or back saw next day and would need to be spelled for a few day later, but for a one of journey 100miles + is very doable but the rider will be in a bad state as well as the horse, unless horse and rider are both very fit.

    3. The figure I read and repeated was the historical average. Average over time and circumstances. Good info, though.

    4. Yep slow and steady wins the race, If your setting off across the steppes of central Asia your better of traverling slower and getting to your destination fit and healthy and ready to rock and roll. 25m a daywould be plenty quick enough for a large lumbering horse drawn army to move and they would soon catch up or leave behind any infantry force as the case may be.

I have done a lot of horse rideing working cattle, bit hard to know how fare you ride in a day, no odometer on a horse, but some days might be 40 miles and I would expect the horse to back up and do the same next day. Rarely have I ever seen a exhausted horse, they do regularly get either saw feet or backs though, particularly if not well looked after.

Australian mounted troops were used extensively in the middle east in WW1, many of the "successes" of Laurence of Arabia were actually accomplished by the Australian light horse and other alied mounted troops, but old Laurence was better PR. The Aussie mounted troops, many the sons and grand sons of pioneers, were some of the hardest toughest fellas to take up arms ever, they could all ride a buck, shoot, track and live hard out in the elements, but they weren't very good at takeing care of there horses. Back on the big cattle stations in Australia there were heaps of horses so if one went laim you just turned him out and grabed another one. The army couldn't afford to be keeping a heap of spare horse and the Aussies weren't keen on following precieved BS regulations of pampering there horses. Any way I'm crapping on again.

    6. I have somewhat of an equestrian background, since my mother was heavily into it while I was growing up, and I can cite a personal experience. One time we went on a 50 mile ride in a day. This was actually a planned group ride with a determined route so it was exactly 50 miles. We started early, I want to say no later than 8:00 am, and finished in the late afternoon. Since it wasn't overnight we were packed with the usual goods for a day hike, food water, etc. So it's probably safe to say that 50 miles a day, even being loaded heavier than we were for a longer outing is quite doable.

Personally, I've developed a distaste for the nags over the years, but I understand that this disdain just comes from having a spoiled post petroleum elitist attitude, and that someday, these currently worthless 4 legged bastards will be worth their weight in gold.

He reckoned draught horses were beautiful animals and good to work with, but not nearly as good as tractors.

For as long as I can remember wheat here in Australia has varied between about $200 and $500 per tonne depending on the vagaries of the seasons, international markets. This has basically come about because of tractors getting bigger and better.
