bunker in now 2-post 2 of 2 today

BUNKER IN NOW 2
post 2 of 2 today
You do understand I'm not the only crazy one here, right? I had decided to bunker in before February was half over with. February 11th I believe was my last prepper buy. Since then I was only out twice for the NOL prescriptions and once for produce ( remember, if you substitute cabbage for lettuce, and stick with root veggies, you are barely ever going out for produce ). I still go out five in the morning for my power walk ( Old Humper Exercise ) all week, but that is not mixing with the unwashed masses. Who will really be unwashed soon, as a LOT of toiletries come from China.
*
More recently, a lot of YouTubers ( and Patreon people ) have declared they will be doing the same, bunkering in. I know, I WAS crazy then. A little overly paranoid. Which I've always been ( after I went to University Of Life and got my degree ). The other survivalist writers/talkers are far more socially functional than I am and didn't release their balloons as quickly. To be clear, I'm only reducing my chances of Beer Bug, not eliminating them. The NOL still goes to work where it was always normal for the fat ass desk jockey's to be sick ( paid sick days being an incentive ) all winter long, and for the homeless to shed cooties everywhere.
*
( Although, if my fathers theory that beer kills germs is correct, the bums should be immune LOL ) I'm not avoiding crowds just because of the mini-pandemic ( again, it is economic, not disease, that will have the biggest impact. I've believed that since the beginning ). Mostly I'm avoiding crowds because I'm just not sure when their behavior turns violent. Not as in Columbine violent, just as in extreme rudeness and inflamed tempers. I don't want to risk escalation.
*
Plus, just my luck, Henrietta Housewife keeps hearing about toilet paper shortages, she frantically Grand Theft Auto drives down to the store on delivery day and as she is shrieking into her cell phone, she doesn't see me on my bicycle with blazing yellow safety vest and runs my ass over. I go to the hospital, where I get the super extra deadly Iranian strain of Beer Bug, plus the wrong drugs as the correct one is out of stock, and I die for sure. All because I couldn't keep my impatient paranoid ass inside the compound walls.
*
Notice how I didn't go off on a tangent about the weaponized Iranian Bat Bug? Not much point in that anymore, is there? Getting bogged down in the details of the cause is counterproductive by now. It was fun at first, then pointless. It is like two guys huddling in a cave avoiding fallout arguing about who fired the first ICBM. Let us return to general trends. We covered hospitals and banking. On to trucking. Frankly, it is insulting how we arrived at our current trucking situation. Like a lot of our other institutions, we enacted the practice when oil was both cheap as water and like Miami at high tide, everywhere.
*
Capitalism follows the lowest price feedstock. Whatever is cheapest to produce for profit, that is what dominates the economy. It used to be slaves and sugar, then slaves and cotton ( later, colonized “free” people and cotton ). In the last fifty years it was finance, as that was based on oil. And doesn't require a factory. At one time it was the automobile. Oil was so cheap, getting RID of it was a problem. So we used it on the most inefficient transportation we could, suburban Happy Motoring.
*
This soon included semi truck transportation. After all, the infrastructure was already in place, for passenger cars. Scaling up to semi's was cheaper than fixing the deteriorating rail lines, and a hell of a lot cheaper than building any new ones ( which you really couldn't, as suburbia was in the way ). On that sunny day that the US hit Peak Oil in 1971, our transportation system was doomed. No one wanted to see it. They certainly didn't care when global peak hit in 2005. Hydrogen, ethanol and tight oil will save the day!
*
The trucking industry was in trouble last year, massive economic disruptions globally from demand destruction hammering them ( get it? “put the hammer down, rubber ducky!” ). And normally that would not be a huge issue. The rail would pick up the slack as a latter date increased demand built back up truck and trailer inventory. But rail is in trouble from the same demand collapse. And soon both face a far more crippling problem, decreased demand as imports cease for all intents and purposes ( other countries manufacture-but China supplies the materials for that. Do you get why I think China did this deliberately? ), AND spare parts issues.
*
If cars were not being assembled weeks and weeks ago, how far from repair part availability failure are we? I know that we had a great year ( 2018? ) right before the trade war as companies raced to stock up ( tax purposes? The details escape me, sorry ). That alone might just slightly pull out the timetable until mass shortages ( and that time might almost or already be over-remember, the bicycle parts shortage was almost immediate ). Every day less shipping containers show up is another blow to the trucking industry. You thought retail closures were bad in past years-just wait.
*
I hope you've kept employment in mind. Almost all of our jobs are conditioned on three things. Consumption, borrowing or taxes. The 70% of the economy that was consumption, largely financed by debt. Debt to do almost anything for consumers, but more importantly for our discussion, debt so companies kept their doors open. And, taxes, to fund all the government workers. Sure, we need cops and firefighters, even more so as they are shot in combat or killed by the Bat Bug responding to medical emergencies, but if there are no taxes as consumer or debt jobs disappear, well, want in one hand.
*
What happens to the Always Lost Money fracking industry, as the banks fail ( with Derivatives at $1.2 QUADRILLION, and with cash reserves at 1.2%-both figures from guys much smarter at finances than I- there is no way the banks don't fail )? The price of oil will continue to fall, as we experience shortages. The 6 million barrels a day of fracking oil is no longer on the market. There will be shortages despite global oil surpluses. Not that you can buy any cheap gas, if it was available, without a job. And as the banking industry fails, who is financing all that centralized agriculture?
*
Sure, let's nationalize it. Obama couldn't build a web page for his Health Tax, the CDC cannot hand out a viable virus test, but the federal government can feed us. Sure. I'd take that to the bank, but its closed. Start thinking of the systems failures.

  1. Right Jim. It is evolving as such that the wuflu is the initial black swan type event, but not the end all of it. The illnessess and deaths, although scary is still a low statistic body count when taking into account all of the other maladies and incidental causes of fatalities. Perspective in reality of clean factual math numbers folks. (Auto deaths, street crime, fat body diseases etc) Bunch of candy asses crying to the sky really over the spilt milk. Interesting points Jim on the frailty and weak economic foundations of the systems being more of an achilles heal to the USA, more so than any other "threats". The true weakness of muh Merica is the sissy citizenry en masse that vapor locks out stupid at everything, then does everything wrong when the herd stampedes scatterassed fashion. Being an anointed Minion and practicing the Lord Bison doctorines have allowed fellow accolytes to build up an effective immunity response to any arrising nonsense outside the wire. Stay Frosty.

  2. About 6 months ago the only traffic light in the tiny (pop. 854) ville I live close to broke and rather than getting it fixed they put black trash bags on it and set a few portable stop signs around. Know what? Everybody is telling TPTB to NOT get the light fixed as the signs work much better. See, with the light 1/2 the vehicles are always just sitting whether there is traffic the other direction is not. This is a waste of fuel and time. Now, everybody takes turns and there is never more than 2 vehicles sitting at any time.

That's my take on cops too. If there are no cops people won't need them or miss them. Back in the 70's Letterman used to do a thing on his show where he read the entries in the sheriff's log for this town and everybody got a chuckle out of it. Mr Brown's cow got out of it's stall again was seen evacuating it's massive bowels on the sidewalk on Main St and it required both cops to get it back home. har har har That sort of thing. That log is on line now and I read it sometimes and at least 90% of the calls to the cops are for unnecessary bullshit. It was even worse when I lived in suburban Cape Coral, Florida. Cops are baby sitters most of the time and when they are truly needed they mostly shoot themselves, their compatriots, and bystanders. But the real reason for cops is to steal money from the citizenry for victimless crimes. Anyone in favor of that stuff need to be professionally examined by an entire team of psychologists. The one and only time I have ever needed the service of a cop (a burglared storage unit) he failed miserably and openly admitted it to my face. "You will probably never get your stolen stuff back." I have no use for em. Fuk em ded, then set em on fire, with diesel.

    1. Quarantined together, you'll either learn to get along or kill each other. Resolved, either way. Beer Virus, good for marriages.

  4. GS, I've been cop/Sheriff since 92. I've put murderers, child rapists, thieves and arsonists. I was never big on writing tickets of busting a guy for a dime bag of weed.I have done CPR on at least 10 citizens and several children cause the family didn't have a clue and I could get there quicker than EMS. I have helped people turn their lives around and get the resources they needed to do so. Maybe in Podunk it is Andy Griffith but I serve a county with maybe 200K. The thin blue line is a deterrent. I'd hate to live without LEO's. Yes there is a bunch of punk asshole leos. Part of why I retired. But I cam back. It is still my greatest thrill to make a kid smile because he has a cop buddy that helped his family and made him feel like a partner even for 5 minutes. Sorry I have an issue with cop haters and we've both been here a long time. I've been following Jim for 15 years at least.

Trust me, besides a tiny town like yours this world would go to hell quick without us stupid cops that put their lives on the line every day.

    1. Work the night shift even in the smallest town, even in a non-diverse area, and you'll realize you need the cops. Just because the police will turn on us doesn't mean anything. ALL tribes will be in conflict, even that nice church group that feeds the homeless now but won't be so nice in the near future.

    2. "I have no use for em. Fuk em ded, then set em on fire, with diesel." Real nice Ghostsniper. I missed that last night as I may have had a drink or two. GS I had quite a bit of respect for you in this group but Wow.

Most cases like your storage unit theft do go unsolved. Unless there is video or something that the victim has a serial number for is pawned and everyone is doing their job. I worked a shed burglary case with at least 40 burglaries in 2 counties. Power tools etc. Only lead we had was a few names kept popping up. Finally got a hit on a serial number and his arrest lead to a confession and several more arrests. Most of the time even with hard work nothing can be done. Life isnt TV where they can pull DNA off a suspect's fart and get a match.

I would hope you had the ability to realize there are all kinds of cops. Granted they are changing towards a different type of officer from old school like my generation. Part of the reason I retired the first time was the new attitude joining the force. Not all but enough.

Sorry for the rant on your page Jim but want to kill and burn cops is pretty screwed up.

    3. Rants are allowed, by both you and GS. It seems to be kept civil, so I don't want to step in other than my own two cents. I can clearly see both sides. GS has his blind areas, as we all do. He is also helpful with good ideas, as all minions are. Not trying to kiss everyone's ass, and as you all know I stress clarity of thought in all things.

  6. In the small towns that the family ran the movie theaters. My parents always made deals with the local cops to patrol the Drive Inns and run projectors etc. Got away with alot of shinanigans when I was young because we were friends with all the cops. Naw , hating , on cops in general. Is just as bad as racism ...stupid IMO. Reserve that hatred for individuals which have proven to be shitheads.

    1. I can understand the hate. It is sometimes just fear. And fear and paranoia are good. But ones mind must also be open to a certain degree. Not enough to endanger you, but enough to exercise the old gray matter

  7. Especially in today's world where cops tend to tribe up , isolating themselves like segrigationists of all others beyond that blue line. Which tends to promote fear from the unknown by we on the outside.

    2. I have LEO friends at work but i only hang out with civilians when I'm off. Cops have changed over the years partly because of the public treatment of them from the media war against them. What other job do you have to worry about someone putting a bullet in your head while you sit in your car eating a cheeseburger? Due to violence against cops they are undergoing hyper vigilance type training. Not defending asshole cops. They are out there for sure but there are still some good ones.

    3. As a White male Deplorable, you ( as in all "you's" ) should understand how it feels to be demonized and targeted. This is how cops feel. I have my issues with the profession as a whole, but it is still the devil you know.
