COP CRITTERS 2

Why is law enforcement “broken”? We can point to failure points, such as shifting the focus from experience or aptitude towards college education. Bureaucracy as the be-all, end-all focus from career politicians at the top. But those are not causes. They are symptoms. Remember the cycles of empire and complex systems. Institutions arose that won the empire its wealth pump. Those institutions are the very cause of success, and are the very first to be cemented in place. Once in place, roots are planted. They are NOT dislodged. Only complete failure of the entire system can burn those out.

All empires rise and fall, as do civilizations, similarly. You find what works and sticks with it, and when that starts failing you double down on it. Complex organizations are all about continuing to dig, no matter how deep they go, even knowing then they cannot get OUT of that hole. “Stop digging” is an unknown option not entertained. Remember, our empire was born out of coal and iron, the Industrial Age. That is how they succeeded, and prospered. That this no longer works is not an option. It MUST work, or all who control and profit from the system lose.

It was the same for the Romans as it is for us. And even if a few bright souls somehow survive the hidebound bureaucracy, and by a miracle push for reforms, the simple fact is that the surplus energy which built the system is all gone and there is no more energy to be had to build a new one. The only option is using the old infrastructure, no matter how inefficient or dysfunctional it appears. And, my fine feathered minions, if you blather “fracking oil forever”, you are showing your ass. VOLUME doesn't matter. Net energy does.

In the case of the police, the model was already there with the county sheriff. The citizenry reported by phone to dispatch for patrols. A vehicle and its fuel are much cheaper than multiple COPS ( Constables On Patrol ). Early robots, as it were, one motor vehicle replacing many bodies. There was one of the first major breaks in community policing, the end of “personal service”. No longer did an officer walking his beat know all the citizens and all the criminals, able to preemptively keep the peace in many instances.

Also recall that many urban areas got a “professional” police force after the War Of Northern Aggression, and with the amount of veterans available the structure naturally took after the military. From the very beginning you had imbecilic officers in charge of a bureaucracy. What would be more natural than meeting population increase, with the need for a larger force, with the pencil pushers starting to value credentials over experience? The recruits were cheaper and more easily fit the officers views of what was needed ( following their orders rather than being independent ). There was no need to “unlearn bad habits”.

But WHY? Why did there arise the need to reduce personnel, replacing them with machines, and for the recruits to cost less? Taxes were going up with population. Why did departments have to start stealing property to fund themselves? Simply, as empire crumbles there are less resources to devout to everyone. Adjusted for REAL ( not government contrived ) inflation, these huge budgets are not buying nearly as much. When I moved to Florida, I was making more as an assistant manager at a convenience store than the State Troopers were started out at.

Of course, the principle at my kids elementary school was making SIX times what either of us did ( highlighting where, in all likelihood, the LEO budgets were going to ). Back in the late Eighties, the cow county I was living in had one deputy on duty at night. For half the county. Often times cat napping waiting for a call ( to save on gas and wear and tear ). Wonder why they all so readily embraced asset forfeiture? Alas, with such a windfall, the budget ratchets up and is seemingly now bare bones. What is one to do to combat extra crime from the extra population?

The general trend in over the top deadly shootings, the rash judgments, the mob mentality as each call is met with more units responding, the SWAT teams tasked with more mundane details. All an obvious sign of break down and a lack of adequate resources. And yet, the police are by no means alone in this, and to portray such is rather unfair to personnel asked to do the impossible, with less, every day. The medical industry is obviously in worse shape. Costs out of control for almost no services, or incompetent service. Or even malevolent services ( look into the elder care issue ).

Not to trash talk doctors or medical personnel in service to the community rather than to Mammon ( as much as that is possible. Like cops needing a Bachelors to patrol the ghetto, a lot of the medical credentials are in place to obstruct rather than help those entering the industry, and impose an unfair cost incentive afterwards-but it is also true Charlatans are in place JUST for the money, making mistakes and disincentives more likely ), but they operate in a dysfunctional system they cannot change.

How much of the medical cost is simply because of the bankers using it as a profit center? Remember, the insurance industry is just the banking industry disguised. A lot of the job growth in medical is NOT more nurses per patient. All indicators seem to point to the exact opposite. The growth is in paper pushers. Everyone venomously denies that the US is anywhere close to a Banana Republic ( although, Hanging Chad For President 2000 disagrees with your simplistic ass ), that a cop taking a bribe to not throw you in with rapists is a bad thing.

I'm sorry, are you saying it is better for a cop to throw you in jail, to get raped by HIV positive goons, when you did nothing wrong, so that the cop gets paid his official salary? Yeah, that is SO much better. No corruption at the hospital, either. The doc sees you and treats you, right up to the point of stabilizing you. It doesn't matter what caused the problem. There are too many illegal aliens that also need free care. You don't need to bribe anyone for that treatment. Our system is so much better than those Banana Republic countries with national medicine, like Cuba.

Am I telling you that we are WORSE off than many Turd World countries? Yes. Because in a lot of ways, they were never industrialized to the point that the masses couldn't feed themselves. Or, if industrialized, they never turned the economy over to the bankers, who destroy the golden goose as the oil supply ( the resource their wealth was based on ) contracts. If those countries were colonized and exploited, at least to some degree they had to feed the peasant, who were the farm equipment themselves. Here, the peasants serve no purpose, so as to keep them alive.

Look, I could go on for several more days. But it really is simple. When you build a machine to run on a fuel ( Romans, slaves and wheat. The US, oil ), and then the fuel supply shrinks, at first you must forego maintenance of the machine. Then, the machine starts to break “extra” parts. Soon, the thing will simply stop running. If you are delusional, optimistic and simplistic ( “voting will change something, anything” ), you cannot see how close the machine is to simply not working at all any more. Don't be that guy.
