GOT YOUR HEART HANGING
2
When one goes about
Winning Hearts And Minds, it isn't because you are super wonderful,
upright and favored by God. I mean, you ARE killing people, after
all. It really is just an effective Baffling With Bullspit
propaganda campaign, to put it cynically. You are doing it because
it benefits you. It makes less enemies and more supporters. Why do
you think Nixon abolished the draft? Because he was a nice guy? No,
it was to kill the war protest movement with its domestic terrorism.
He did the Right Thing but for selfish reasons.
*
( Nixon wasn't the
dingus most folks make him out to be. Like Carter, he made hard
choices that were not popular but were needed for system survival.
Detente with China was needed for countering the Soviets. It was, in
effect, halving the enemies strength. He HAD to close the gold
window, with there being no more gold after Kennedy's Assassin used
it to buy off the rioting ghettos and paying for OtherColor
Occupation Forces. And the draft never should have been used for
overseas conquest. Every man in the militia was used for just such a
thing, from before the Revolution, but Manifest Destiny isn't Global
Imperialism )
*
So, is Hearts And Minds
ALWAYS a good idea? Why wouldn't it be, right? If you are righteous
and your cause is just, everyone will support you. If you show
compassion to your enemies and treat him fair even when he doesn't
deserve it, you are a worthy adversary and a sought after trading
partner in the future. If you go out of your way to treat your own
people fairy, even when you could crush them with overwhelming force,
other countries know they can trust you. You do the right thing even
when it is the hard thing.
*
Lose all that and you
find yourself alone and friendless when you need help the most ( this
is where the US finds herself today-or, pert near soon enough ).
Well, all that is the theory, and it is a good strategy normally.
Future goodwill chips you bought cheap and can cash in when needed.
Alas, I submit to you that it is NOT a universal rule. It has a pull
date, right about Spicy Times. In times of collapse, winning hearts
and minds is dangerous. Allow me to elaborate.
*
Let us say you are in a
civil war. Hearts And Minds is necessary, as your people support a
just cause and fight harder while the enemies people realize the
fight is unjust and stop supporting the war as taxpayers or soldiers.
And in a war, guerrillas cannot win without the support of the
people ( who are their logistics base-and you know what I say about
logistics ). But what if this wasn't just a normal war, Civil or
otherwise? War and die-off are very two different animals. You
don't elephant tranquilize a rabid dog, right?
*
A die-off, in case
there is any confusion in your luxury steeped soft and gooey brain,
leaves nobody behind. There is a winner and everyone else is dead.
Who is left that you had to win their heart? I'm not even talking
about wasting resources here. I'm talking about leaving behind fifth
columnists. In a war, you win over your enemies and they become your
friends ( and even do you a solid by killing off your enemy leader
for you ). In a die-off, you cannot leave any potential enemy
living. So why befriend them? Sure, befriend them before beheading
them, as a feint strategy, if necessary, but never with the intention
of letting them live.
*
Let us say we head into
the next conflict which at first appears to be a civil war, a Red V
Blue of Constitutionalism against Communism. It appears as if indeed
you want to win hearts and minds. You must appear righteous to your
potential supporters, far more worthy of support than the
Abortionists and Geriatric Death List supporters. It is hard to NOT
engage in winning Hearts And Minds, as we are actively doing right
now ( just in how we arrange our words describing our opponents, as I
just did ). But what happens if this civil war is just the opening
salvo of the die-off? If we win hearts and minds, we support our
future enemies ( not that they INTEND to be such, but soon they'll
have no choice ).
*
Do you see the
conundrum? If we misjudge the conflicts true purpose, we are acting
against our own self interests. If we butcher all non-tribesmen,
laughing over their graves, we lose hearts and minds. If we show
compassion and care, we end up dying at those peoples hand. It
doesn't matter about doing the right thing morally but strategically.
We already know war is never moral in the macro sense, being just a
fight over resource control. But when you act moral you win hearts.
*
The only question
becomes, is it strategically correct to act morally, in this
conflict? Okay, look at it this way. Acting morally after the
collapse is retarded, logistically. If you feed a starving child
refugee, you in effect starve your own child, in time. Hence it is
NOT right to feed outsiders. If you support that you support killing
your own in a slow vicious manner. If a two by four upside your head
doesn't convince you, your tribesmen would be within their rights to
kill you over this issue.
*
In our hypothetical
coming war, the only question I'm raising is, does this lead to a
post apocalyptic scenario, or not. If it does, you are required to
kill everyone else in defense of your own tribe. If not, you are
required to act compassionately, even if only for your own benefit.
If you go in assuming a return to Business As Usual, you must act
normally as far as strategy ( hearts and minds ). If you go in
assuming only one tribe wins, kill them all and let God sort them
out.

How do you and other people deal with the fear of what is most likely going to happen? Civil War and/or Die-Off.
ReplyDeleteI'm not macho. I'm an introvert semi-shut in who avoids people, even those I know. I'm also old. Pre-modern medicine actuary tables have my death in six more years ( and I'll bet you any number of jelly filled donuts it gets worse and then collapses, the modern medical industry ). I'm almost dead. What is there to be afraid of? Plus, the more prepared you are regardless of age, the less fear you feel. It is all about wheat, ammo and avoiding crowds. Plus, don't you feel more alive, knowing the battle is about to start?
DeleteIf you are afraid of mice, the best thing to address your anxiety is to learn as much as possible about the mouse, look at pictures of mice, and even learn to be around them and handle them. Avoidance strengthens fears. Exposure teaches you how to cope... unless it gives you a heart attack.
DeleteWhat doesn't kill you makes you stronger :)

DeleteEver since coming to the realization that really bad times are close, I do feel an exhilaration and aliveness. (I think the 2020 election will be the beginning of the Civil War...no matter who wins.)
I have a friend who is my age (65), and we know our current physical weaknesses, but we are going to fight as best we can. We will go down fighting!!
Old armed bastards-our corpses can make a difference. Wonder who is going to be most Red Flag targeted, hmmm?

ReplyDeleteThis, at the minimum.
Can you imagine this as a hurricane demolishes the east fUSA?
Can you imagine this as rioters destroy Kansas city again?
Can you imagine this during another glitch in food stamps?
Can you imagine fifty million refugees coming your way?
And they are all CALIFORNIANS!
Your worst nightmares... and they are all CALIFORNIANS !!!
Totally off topic, but I thought that it was interesting. Saw this over at minds.com earlier. At first, I thought it was a law enforcement official, due to the get up. But of course, that wouldn’t make sense, since they would have guns. Not saying you should bring a slingshot to a gunfight, because of course, that would be very foolish (Though with guerrilla tactics, I could actually see it being plausible on some level) But also never underestimate the lowly slingshot, in a resource down scenario.
ReplyDeleteI certainly wouldn’t want to take a 1/2” steel ball bearing to the temple, driven by triple Theraband gold (That’s probably around 45lbs).

Staged? "Innocent protester must fight back with primitive weapons" kind of thing. Interesting tidbit today-a lot of the protesters seem to be children of Vietnam War refugees from that country. Seems that might be a group exploited by our intelligent services for a color revolution. Not that I care, but the things seems to be stinking of another Kabuki theater. After all, China threatens the PetroDollar ( now I'm hearing rumblings that Tiannimam Square was also a Color Revolution. True or not, interesting )
DeleteJim, if you have not discovered the writer "The War Nerd" you need to. He's great. I believe there's a fair amount of his stuff online that's not behind a paywall; he used to write for "The eXiled Online" then for Pando, which is not paywalled and for yups only.
ReplyDeleteYou seem a kindred spirit though, a sort of War Nerd for us, the masses.
Never heard of him or the publications. I'll check him out. Thank you.
DeleteGreat writer! I just spent 45 minutes reading his book sample, and then ordered the kindle version. If anyone wants to check it out:
