SLOW COLLAPSE INSURANCE

Well, I’m sure you are all
pretty squared away for the collapse of civilization, or if you aren’t you
possess a reasonable facsimile. Sure,
you might need five years of wheat at a minimum, but six months is far better
than nothing especially since most of us prepping overstock our day to day
cupboards anyway and between the two you might just have a years supply of
food. The extra fat almost all of us
carry, an actual historical survival mechanism rather than something you need
worry about ( unless you can’t see your dingus, in which case the fat went from
beneficial mobile food reserve to health impediment. For you gals, if your belly holds up your
rack better than your bra does, you might be a bit overweight also ) will get
us through the first month or two with extra calories so that prior to sitting
on a rocker all day moaning about the second half of that Netflix series you’ll
now never see you can accomplish those needed tasks such as bugging out or
setting up camp security or cutting firewood or whatever. Then you can go back to being as lazy as you
were before, just with less calories doing it.
*
The trick when you don’t
have enough food is, hello Captain Obvious, getting more. If your storage food amount is inadequate
then you need to plan ahead better as to how you are going to get it. My plan is to assume five years of food is
equal to one or two at the most, two to three years in reserve because you need
food storage even AFTER the apocalypse and up to one and a half serving as a
double ration, with six months sedentary die-off rations. So five years planned rations is six months
die-off and six months double rations and the rest in reserve. This is going to be flexible because it
depends when the collapse happens and when the next crop is going to come
in. I could, for instance, await the
die-off and arrive in time for productive potato fields, or not. I might have to wait for the wheat crop and
go fight for that instead. That is what
the double rations are for, the energy to actually transport to the fight. Sorry if this is an uncomfortable subject,
but killing for food is how things are initially, despite the sanitized
versions you have dancing in your heads.
You are stealing food or killing those who might steal your food later,
and that is it simply boiled down to basics.
*
If you only have six
months wheat ration plus the cupboard items you need to follow the standard
protocol of hiding out the six months which is the assumed maximum die-off
event duration, which will take the minimum amount of calories. But then you need to double up to go on the
offensive, so you only have two or three months to go fight and secure your
food. With no reserve. I would strongly suggest you consider the
wheat at one year as a bare minimum, as well as stocking your retreat location
with an abundance of regular non-perishables.
Six months is VERY uncomfortable of a cushion. That seasonal food question can bugger up
anyone’s plans. But assuming you can
make that two month window work on your less than recommended amount of storage
foods, it is a far better plan than what everyone else has. Which is basically fighting for the food on
hand, immediately. Since that is the
default plan of the entire population you’ve wisely found a bug out location (
PRE-stocked, damnit! I’m not a fan of
most buggin in, or bugging out past a certain distance but however you do it
make sure it is ready at a moments notice.
The collapse SHOULDN’T be overnight as that defies all hope and logic,
but since it COULD be… ) to go to ground at to wait out that stupidity.
*
Which brings up
ammunition, which you probably don’t have enough of. Despite the seemingly universality of the
prepper stereotyped ammo case stacker, most of us realistically are probably as
deficient in ammunition as we are in wheat.
Well, after the six month period it is probably a very safe bet that a
lot of that irreplaceable ammunition that the semi-simians thought would be
soon replaced by the victorious Christian Militia re-opening the three hundred year fracking
wells is in fact all used up and NOT magically replenished and the only
survivors of the die-off period fighting actually learned to husband their
ammunition through altering tactics.
Even those with semi’s will be sipping rather than slurping the last of
the ammo, so your embarrassingly small stockpile will be on par with most
others. As long as you assume from day
one that you are a guerrilla without resupply, you should do okay. Not great, but okay. Now do you see the attraction of a bayonet? Great for administering a coup de grace,
saving on ammo. A battlefield back-up,
saving on the ammo and weight of that hypothetical pistol. And etcetera.
*
So, even those not exactly
ready or equipped for the complete collapse are somewhat prepared as long as
their plans reflect their logistics. So
when I say we’ve pretty much got the collapse covered I’m sure that includes
everyone ( go back and see my article on even the homeless being able to prep
). Now, what if that waterfall collapse
DOESN’T happen? I’m completely convinced
it will, or I wouldn’t have lived my life like I did and am. But I’ve never said the collapse is guaranteed to happen by my reckoning. I said you should assume and prep as if it
would, as insurance against Worst Case Scenario. If I’m wrong, no harm and no foul because you
didn’t burn any bridges. So you bought too
many preps, who cares? It was a hobby,
and hobbies are a consumption rather than an investment. But, it must be acknowledged, not burning
your bridges only solved one problem.
And there are more than one of those.
So, you will still retire, or get Food Stamps to feed yourself on your
junk land. Fine, immediate future
planned for. But that assumes you have
the economic collapse covered. Which is
GREAT. Don’t misunderstand me. You should have a bare bones kit for the
collapse and then cover yourself for the economic collapse which comes before
the civilization collapse. Hell, we have
been in an economic collapse most of our lives.
The difference is in severity and has been for a decade.
*
But if you think on it,
most of our economic collapse insurance is premised on a functioning
government. I submit to you the
possibility of a time period prior to civilization collapse and prior to
governmental collapse which sees a cessation of ALL effective state welfare
benefits. Yes, I know we all assume the
moment Food Stamps and Section Eight housing fail the streets will erupt in
riots and the whole edifice crumbles. I’m
talking more about purchasing power, a hyperinflation scenario, as well as
infrastructure issues. The government
certainly can print all the money it needs in that narrow window between the
start of the rhetorical printing press and the end of its powers through civil
unrest. It could in theory give Tyrone
the ghetto dweller twice the money as you get since you are white and own land (
currently the junk land doesn’t count against your benefits-although that could
change. Try to get that bitch under
someone else’s ownership ), but I don’t know how much credence I give that
whole “lib-tards are out to kill us through reverse racism” scare. More realistically everyone gets increased
COLA-cost of living allowance-since it is just a few taps of the federal
reserve bank keyboard.
*
Alas, our food growing and
distribution system is privately run and while most of our lives we’ve heard
nothing but capitalistic jingoism spouting nonsense to the effect that private
enterprise is god like and any government interference is communism, the truth
is a slight bit different. Yes, private
business is VASTLY more efficient. But
it isn’t efficient for the customers sake, but for the sake of the
company. Normally there would be nothing
wrong with that, were capitalism in its growth phase. But it isn’t, it is in its Right Side Of The
Bell Curve phase. Capitalism, it might
do you good to remember, is the most efficient system to consume surplus
resources. Baring said surplus, it loses
all its strengths and is then nothing more than dysfunctional. Which is what we are seeing now. You don’t destroy your customer base, your
brand name, your national security and your ability to pay back growth loans in
a functioning capitalistic economy.
Welcome to the Oil Age in decline.
Capitalism is just another victim, along with the nation state, welfare,
industrialism and every damn thing you are used to, even if what you counted on
was working poorly. But soon it won’t
work at all. Which is what we must think
about preparing for. Continued tomorrow.

With regards to property ownership, they tally up your assets, and it has to fall under a ridiculously small amount, as in under $2k, in order for you to qualify for benefits. However, the last time I spoke with my case worker (hopelessly unemployed minion here, so I have Medi-Cal) I was told that I qualify for SNAP. She said that it was currently based on income, rather than assets.
ReplyDeleteYou might be able to put your land under an LLC. You would then be playing by the rules of the elites, so you would be about as protected as you could possibly be. Putting it in someone else’s name could backfire, unless you know, and really trust that person well. My junk land only appraised at around $700, so it will be a long time I think, before anyone could ever consider it a serious asset. Another argument in favor of junk land when you think about it.
I'm mainly assuming they only want you to rent rather than own, since that keeps you in debt and is job security for them.
DeleteHousing is what really gets most Americans. We seem to have to pay an awful lot for the basic right to shelter ourselves. If you can get around it, you owe it to yourself to do so. An older trailer, a motorcoach, whatever you need to do.
DeleteHere’s a hot young babe, that lives in an RV. I’m going to guess that she gets a lot of Patreon donations from horny young dudes.

Who wouldn't want to support an attractive prepper? Little Brains agree, eye candy has its place.
DeleteI don't think she's a prepper Jim. Just a hot chick that lives in an RV.
DeleteAnd that's going to stop us? :)
DeleteInformed comment: If EBT and the like collapsed for whatever reason the County govts would immediately bring food distribution into play, perhaps through emergency seizures, but certainly in conjunction with regional supermarkets. Plans are already in place.
ReplyDeleteI think the lack of functioning govt part of your post is somewhat off. Many places have at least three layers of governance over them. One or more are bound to remain functional. The question is only if they can get to you in time [assuming you want them to] and if they care at all. In the Bosnian wars govt orgs became just another gang of raiders. I could see cops, for one example, turning that way in the right circumstances.
Functioning gov, into gangs, will of course appear-but they won't have the means of long term logistics, food or ammo, just like the rest of the population. We are too centralized and transport dependent.
DeleteCity, County, State, Federal.
DeleteA failure at one level WILL impact the other levels, how those other levels respond is the big question.
They could assume similar responsibility of the other levels, or they could say it is beyond their scope or resources. Or they could make a play to expand their scope and resources (or only one of those two, which will likely be an indication of a worse breakdown).
I agree food stocks will start looking mighty skimpy about 1 second after realization x event(s) has happened and resupply in any meaningful time frame becomes remote. What is the oldest wheat from storage you have eaten? Any hint of rancidity? (kind of a stale paper smell and distinct taste to me). I've experienced with oat groats (softer grain) that were 5ish years old professionally packed. Also what is your typical wheat storage temperature for where you are. Thank you. S, Fla.
ReplyDeleteSix year old wheat is inspected periodically from underground and looks fine. Twenty year plus at fluctuating temps in the trailer are also fine. Kernels, with the winter temps keeping bugs away, now and thirty years ago, always held up well. Florida, I'd Mylar bag and diatamacous earth without fail, but I did have a four year old unlined commercial bucket which had its contents unaffected by bugs.
DeleteMy comment is in regards to going on the offense after a six month hiding period to go secure food supplies. First, I think this is morally unacceptable. I do realize however, that Darwinists that follow their beliefs to their logical conclusions will realize that it's just one germ or randomly lucky meat sack securing an advantage against another germ or randomly lucky meat sack and may the best germ win. I can't agree with this thought process, as Darwinism has defeated itself by its own rules and the only logically consistent viewpoint is that we are special creations.
ReplyDeleteIn any event, if we go back to the statistic that 3% of the population are preppers (maybe more) how many of those actually have a 6-month supply? My guess from personal experience/interaction would be somewhere between 10-25%. Now, how many of those actually live in a somewhat viable area and will actually survive the heavy part of the dieoff without being looted before YOU come out of hiding? This is a significantly smaller number. So small that I would think that the likelihood of you finding a juicy target after 6 months that you are actually strong enough to overcome is about 0%.
A much better idea would be to be satisfied with the resources God has entrusted to you and come up with your own replenishment strategy. This should involve small livestock, perennial food crops, and native american food sources (acorns, pine nuts, etc.). You need to identify which sources will or possibly can recover from the unfought vegetation fire that will come through your area. If possible, spend some time now reducing the fuel load and moisture competition around your selected food sources to minimize the stress the fire will cause and increase the likelihood the tree/plant will survive. I have an idea about scavenging post-fire protein sources that I'd like to write about later. Enough writing for today.
Peace out
You aren't raiding stocks, after the six month period, but new production, IF raiding is viable for your location. Otherwise, you farm yourself but go on raids not to pillage but to depopulate and secure a DMZ around you. If you look at all the upright religious folk who took Indian land to farm, forcing them to immigrate and steal from other Indians or starve, you invalidate your moral objection.
DeleteDMZ of a 12 hour walk, populated by friendlies or depopulated. Expect that others have this same idea, so prepare to become a useful friendly.
ReplyDeleteThis is not a single sweep. This is frequent patrolling and communicating by a bunch of people. At this point, you almost have a civilization needing midwives. So get some and become even more useful.
Then, get a chalkboard, cute girl good at numbers and chalkboard, folding chairs and tarp to start a part-time cash market for food, factory ammo, and animals. 19th century outcry method. Futures contracts only allowed to be sold by producers and limited to 50% of the last year crop sold forward. Tip your bartender. All bids payable in silver dimes at the close of business/harvest with severe penalties for non-performance (ostracized, if no one will pay the debt). This is why you have .50 cal cans of 90% silver, 9x19/.22lr.

A DMZ can be your hunting, or better yet grazing areas, but of course dependent on terrain. Just beware your "friends" too close, as sooner or later they're gonna gets ya ( gets ya, geta ya ). Sometimes trade is necessary, but don't let laziness or greed blind you they are your new next bestest buddy.
