The following paragraphs are from Doomstead Diner, 10-15-2017.  Frankly, it amazes me that D3 ( Doomstead Diner Dude ) is still alive and kicking.  I am glad that he is.  Where I vomit profusely upon the Internet, hoping quantity will have a quality all of it own, D3 doesn’t publish all that much daily but when he posts ( this doesn’t include video or audio in the equation ) it is usually very, very good.  I hope he doesn’t mind my copying the below brilliance.

*

“What Puerto Rico hopefully does is WAKE PEOPLE UP to the fact the FAST COLLAPSE scenario is very real, and in general more likely than the Long Emergency of James Howard Kunstler or the Slow Catabolic Collapse of John Michael Greer.  Industrial Civilization has a very few lynchpin systems that it depends on to function, and when they go away for whatever the reasons, climate, war, economics or politics, the essence of the way we live is stripped away virtually instantaneously.”

*

“It's not likely to happen at the same time everywhere unless we get Global Thermonuclear War, but town by town and region by region more places will fall off the cliff the way Venezuela and Ukraine and now Puerto Rico have.  For these people, Collapse is not some theory about something that might happen sometime in the distant future.  It is THERE. NOW.

Coming Soon to a Theater Near You.” end article excerpt.

Let’s face it, if the FedGov can’t get its head out of its ass and fix Houston, the oil capital of refining which provides the oil to run our oil empire, what chance does an island colony have getting any real assistance?  Answer, pretty close to none to negative and that is being optimistic.  Not that is should surprise anyone.  The basic blueprint of fixing a decimated area remains the same since Katrina.  Fill X amount of cargo containers with bottled water ( whichever brand bribed the Senator in charge of that kind of thing ), harass any citizens trying to help if that interferes with the purview of any government agency, throw in random gun control if desired, get a few photo ops of MRE’s being distributed and then just ignore the rest of the problems until they go away on their own.

*

Remember, for some time now nothing has been fixed.  It gets a coat of whitewash ( not even real paint ) and is ignored.  The Potemkin Village aspect shouldn’t surprise you as that is old hat, but the Memory Hole aspect is relatively new.  The Public Relations for the collapse event is to ignore.  Don’t even deny, just ignore.  Brave Texans Saved The Day, nothing to see here and kindly move along.  Just Old Humpers Waiting To Die Here In Florida, nothing to see here, move along.  The day prior to the above quote, Market Ticker Dude had a video on his visit to Toronto.  You should see the subway and museum and really everywhere.  Everything was maintained, crisp and shiny.

*

Can you recall one area, even the nicest most financed tourist area, in the US that is maintained?  No.  Everything is built for crap and ignored.  What?  You think Canada is some rich economy?  They have just as many problems as anyone else after the commodity crash these last few years.  But they aren’t in a financial collapse like we are, either.  Their entire economy isn’t being Killer Squid drained by the financial elites.  They might use more energy per capita than we do, but they don’t pack the place asshole to elbow with poor immigrants to enrich the bankers.  How sad is it, really, that the Kunucks are kicking our asses?

*

Florida and Houston are our own wake up call which every single swinging dingus will ignore, again.  We ignored the Rust Belt, and that worked out pretty well for us.  The people with resources moved to the Sun Belt.  The smart people transitioned to Retail ( although that is now ending-and if you say “Amazon Effect”, I’ll disown your ass and cancel your Loyal Minion membership ).  The problem “went away” as we ignored it.  A few downtowns got face lifts and any photo from the region were those picturesque views ( kind of like any photo of Nevada you see has trees or water-only visit those few oasis’ for pictures ).

*

For fifty years, our infrastructure has been mostly ignored, at most getting patches.  Duct tape the leaking pipe.  This is the picture of an empire dying.  This is also how long hubris has been whispering in our ear, a sweet moist breath, “ ‘Murica Is Great, love it or leave it, you are my special Pretty”.  Detroit, New Orleans and now Puerto Rico, failed areas ignored.  The FedGov is just like the asswhore corporation you work for.  “Well, I’m not so sure of all those years of faithful and dedicated and skillful service.  What have you done for me TODAY?”.

*

Illinois, the port of residence for Obammy after he got off the boat from Kenya ( if Obammy wasn’t a Can’t Miss proof of America in decline and collapse, I don’t know what is ), just added more debt this year than the combined totals of 25 states entire operating budgets.  ONE state, overpaying teachers who if not so inclined are forced to propagandize and brainwash and make stupider the young, thinks nothing of charging a credit card bigger than half the Unions budgets which include more important things like protecting its residents or plowing the roads so they can get to work.

*

God knows what kind of trouble California is in.  But, really, who gives a rats ass?  The US just threw 1% of its citizens under the bus, permanently, over ONE natural disaster.  And that is a daily occurrence ( how many months did it take for the electric to be restored to Long Island? Are the debris even cleared?).  How long do you really think they will take coming after you?  You ain’t special, unless you directly work on a mega money generating project.  And even then your days are still numbers ( it just isn’t an immediate threat ).  There will still be Photo Worthy areas of PR, Houston, New Orleans.  Venezuela, Ukraine, Syria.  That is THE news.  The Public Relations from the failed empire.  The headlines won’t cover the triaged areas.  You have to grasp this crap intuitively and extrapolate yourself.  Few will bother doing it for you.

*

And those few that do?  They will be lumped together with the conmen hacks operating the Doom Porn sites.  Pay Me, I’m special.  I’m warning you of the Sign Of Christ prophesizing Demonic attack waves ending the world on the 32nd day of next month.  Oh, and I’m running for Congress because you guys don’t pay enough.  Cheese Dingus Twats!  Anyway, those unpaid trying to warn you, with no skin in the game, no dog in this fight, get dismissed after being associated with the snake oil salesmen.  That is a damn shame.  Go back to the second and third paragraph and read it again.  Don’t think your region is one canceled Federal Program away from being abandoned?  Don’t think you are one severe blackout away from unemployment?  One more country dropping the dollar for oil payments away from severe inflation?  Feel a warm breath on your earlobe?

  1. All of this is true, and to add to the pain, we are increasingly deprived of quality products and food to prepare for the inevitable collapse.

It's not that we couldn't afford, them, it's because the profit margin would be less. Back in 1988 when I was in the US, I was surprised to see that some very expensive "premium" products were really inferior to what was standard (or less say "good standard") in Europe at the time.

Then Americans started to import european household appliances, for instance, so they don't have to cope with the dreck they were being offered in the US.

Since, Europe has caught up in the race to the bottom that is called "globalization".

    1. It amazes me so few companies can survive with the Quality Product business plan. Unless things are so completely screwed and business is so much worse than we think, then it is last grasp for everyone.

  2. Good thing you had a link to your latest Bison Book Batch because it didn't show up on the Author Page on Amazon.

    Can't wait to read it

    1. I'm having a problem getting Author Central to find my book. First time out of all my books. I had to contact the help desk. Not sure I'm caring for their imploding software standards. I did put up a graphic ad near the top of the page on the right, also.

  3. It was just sheer dumb luck on the part of the Canadians, with regards to reasonable population levels. With most folks from the 3rd world being “latitudinally challenged”, a frozen wasteland such as Canada holds little appeal.

But I’m sure that the Canucks suffer from plenty of white guilt from not having as many little brown people moving in as they’d like.

    1. Just in general, it seems like the Commonwealth White Enclaves strove to keep their populations homogenous, for about twenty five or thirty years later than we did. Then they got all stupid PC. I'd say it was that late start that kept the population low. But don't worry, they are trying to make up for lost time.

  4. toronto cleanliness--lived in new jersey, train stations and other transport hubs filthy, full of beggars and thieves, trains should make connections but are carefully timed not to so as to cause the most exhaustion and anger.
husband went to denmark and north, everything sparkling clean, well scheduled, pleasant.
why can't it be like that here?
went to trenton, the capital, once. london after the blitz looked better.
if new jersey ere my home state i'd have been embarrassed.

    1. And the average property tax in NJ is what? $10k or close? Where do they spend all their money? Give it back to the taxpayers in the form of public services? Are you mad?!
