reflection not direction

REFLECTION NOT DIRECTION

One of the myths you constantly hear is that Hollywood is a den of vipers intent on seducing you into acting against your nature, trying to get you to turn LibTard.  If you watch too much entertainment you will soon become a tree hugging sex changing pillow biting Hilary voting welfare distributing gun hating progressive.  It is easy to agree with this since liberals are basically scum of the earth and deserve to be placed on the Lamp Post List.

*

But I don’t think this is true.  I think this myth comes from the same people who fall for the lure of religion ( there is nothing wrong with religion, from the standpoint of community and culture, group cohesion and tribal identity.  But it is nothing more than a matter of blind acceptance without proof behind it, just as joining the liberal or conservative political movement is.  All rely on faith alone ).  The same people that believe in a divine being on faith alone are asking you to believe that the TV has content that will tempt and sway you.  It might sway THEM, being the sort to blindly accept, but are we all like that?  I think that is rather insulting.

*

Granted, most people have a poor record of thinking rationally.  And even the smartest amongst us have blind spots big enough to let a semi trailer through ( “I are a scientist.  My bestest buddies think climate change is real.  I’ll believe too!” ).  But at least not all of us are blind to our mental failings.  The standard Guru Atop The Mountain claims TV will waste your life and rot your brain.  Hey, what about the jobs most of us have?  How much different is that?  That’s different because you are being “productive”?  Really?  Every last one of us burns extra petroleum in our so called job.  We consume, we don’t produce.

*

No, what we do is stay busy so that we can pretend we are a productive unit of our tribe.  But if every civilization is involved in resource overexploitation to defeat all other groups from gaining the upper hand, than we all just consume to survive, and have our entire existence as a species.  No one is saying only one schmuck should work and the others sit around in leisure, but don’t confuse activity with production.  That is just capitalism propaganda.  We might work hard, but at the core of all work is using up resources until they are gone.

*

I’m NOT saying we should sit around and be a vegetable in front of the tube all day.  I’m saying sitting at a desk all day makes us feel better but it is little different other that we’ve reach a self imposed benchmark and congratulate ourselves.  But, Big Picture, all we’ve done is be compensated by the elite for your role in consuming more energy.  I’m also NOT saying Make Work or Busy Work isn’t something we shouldn’t do.  It is pointless, but not doing so is more pointless.  Just don’t throw a congratulatory party for yourself just yet.  You think you are better than the Welfare Leisure Class because you consume more resources faster.

*

Anyway-damn, why do you let me get off track so badly?-the same people that think watching TV makes your weak will bendable by evil people yet who are easily manipulated by religion, they also seem to think the pinko environmentalists control the content of movies and television to indoctrinate us into their belief system.  I’m not saying that propaganda doesn’t work, because it can very easily.  I’m claiming that Hollywood represents society as a whole, mirroring the mores and culture.  It does not have an agenda.  We all hear stories about how conservatives are blacklisted in liberal Hollywood.  How political correctness is preached and can corrupt us.

*

Really?  The military and your corporate job and, politicians and schools, all are solid unwavering bastions of Political Correctness which takes what Hollywood is dishing out and exponentially magnifies this.  If anything, compared to the real life we are all stuck in, Hollywood is LESS liberal or PC.  Hollywood is just a sounding board for the current reality, and in fact mutes that in an effort to get the great unwashed poor masses to part with their entertainment dollars.  Blacks were given jobs because of their color rather than by merit and it took Hollywood YEARS before the current rash of “Black gals were the true hero’s rather than the astronauts” bullspit.  It was generations between the courts handing out No Fault divorces like they were candy and the meme of Bad Dad Good Mom Always became a staple.

*

Hollywood catches up, they are not the vanguard.  We heard the same “Hollywood is the PC Propagandists” long ago, you just had to substitute “PC” with “communists”.  Sometimes it was “Jews” instead.  All that is wishful thinking.  Americans are some of the greediest, most shallow materialistic idiots on earth.  EVERYTHING is about the money.  And no one voluntarily loses money for ideology.  They will screw each other over, those of the same political bent, for more money.  There is no conspiracy.  Just go back and watch a 1980 movie.  They were about escapism from the new, new a dozen years ago, wave of crime let loose upon the land.

*

Go watch “Death Wish 2”. It is on Vudu free with a commercial or two.  First, it was by the Dynamic Hebrew Duo of Golan & Globus-spelling is perhaps off here, going by memory.  They were “proof” that Jews were trying to control Hollywood.  If you read “The Spotlight”, the newspaper for Populists back then, they were the real menace, not the nuclear equipped Soviets.  Second, those two were known for schlock films back then, yet they hold up as far better than the average today.  How sad is that?  Third, do you notice any Social Engineering propaganda in the flick?  No.  It just mirrored the Times Just Past.

*

If you are like me, you can’t go back and watch much past 1960 ( I think “The Bridge Over The River Kwai” was the oldest I’ve enjoyed, about 1958 or so ).  The entire culture was different than mine.  Their mannerisms and projected values are alien.  And I love films from the 80’s.  Why?  They remind me of happier, simpler times.  Sure, chock full of blatant commercialism and consumerism, but also devoid of a tyrannical federal government and a world where corporations killed small business.  The last decade of freedom.  They are a mirror to their times ( with suitable lag, of course ).  No one was losing money on trying to turn people into a future utopia, they were assuring money by putting reality, current reality, into a better light.  Not just crime, but vigilantes fighting crime.  Not just teen angst but angst with happy endings.

*

Hollywood is full of simpletons cashing in on entertainment, nothing more.  The actors are Pretty People that are all looks and no brains.  Of COURSE liberalism appeals to them.  It is a movement dedicated to a fantasy fa├žade masking ugly reality.  Just like their jobs.  Liberals might be wishing we were more like them, but money comes first. They hate conservatives because they wish to avoid reality.   Any liberal propaganda you decipher is merely social reality from last decade or earlier.  Just think about it.

  1. Hollywood was once an industry as serious as Boeing or Westinghouse, but they gradually failed to adapt to the changes in culture.

First, there was always an educational, if not messianic aspect to the US movie industry, because it was the successor of the Chautauqua. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chautauqua

If you watch "The Fall Of The Roman Empire" (1964) ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fall_of_the_Roman_Empire_(film) ), you have a movie that tries to be a substitue for historical lecture about civilization and decadence. Ridley Scott made a remake in 2000 called "Gladiator", and while it was all blood N Guts on the surface, there was a pretty good commentary on the evolution of US politics (yes), which is astounding because it was filmed even before 9/11.

The problem of Hollywood was not directly the TV or internet, it was the decrease in the public's quality. Liek pigs or goats, the audiences would gobble down garbage just as readily as quality. Now that their garbage looks too much like what it is (thanks to JJ Abrams and Michael Bay, among others), these movies are indeed in crisis, but as you said, money is paramount (Paramount is also about money, ha ha), and thus there will be an industry as long as people are ready to pay.

    1. George Lucus supposedly made a commentary about US politics, imperial overreach in Vietnam, but I have a hard time buying that theory. Again, just a reflection. I don't know if you can completely blame the viewers-just like politicians when two crappy choices are presented, you can only pick the least worse. Love the "Paramount Studios" schtick!

    2. If you look closesly enough, the second Star Wars trilogy (Episode I to III) was all about deception. Everybody deceives the others (Plapatine wages a flase flag war to access power, Padme cockteases Anakin, also she has a decoy, the Jedi are ready to make a coup to restore the Status Quo Ante, etc.) (Also, the "Darth Jar-Jar" argument is quite interesting, I do believe it was the original intent, but he was replaced by Count Dooku in Episode II and III)

Anakin is about the only guy who tries to be honest, but he can only take so much, until he snaps.

Also, valuable lesson, everybody is your best buddy until your mother gets kidnapped/raped/tortured by Sand People. Then you have to go High Noon and solve that problem all by yourself. Thanks for nothing, omnipotent & SJWs Jedi :)

    3. I can really only claim true love for the first movie in '77. Even the sequels weren't as great as I'd have liked. As a result, all movies but the first were given superficial attention. I don't analyze them to any depth. Interesting, though, the PC turn.

    4. I sort of grew up in the movie business. My parents owned theaters, one of them being the local passion pit , aka Drive Inn.
During the sixties, seventies , eighties and nineties their business did very well. Fortunately for them the State declared emminent domain on their last indoor theater in order to build a new highway. Fortunate for them because video releases became popular during the nineties. The movie bidness hasn't been the same since.
I too watched the first Star Wars flick and thought it good. Yet have never viewed any of the sequel's.
My view on Hollywood type people's opinion, is that their credibility matters just as much, as that of you or I . No more, no less. Me thinks, others are jealous of their elevated platform from which they speak.

    5. I recall the video business going gangbusters from mid 80's on. Blockbusters might have taken off in the 90's, but Mom & Pop stores were everywhere prior to that. It wasn't prices, as that has stayed stable all my life-about an hour minimum wage. The movies just got crappier. I used to love going to the movies. You could treat yourself once or twice a month. Then, as movies went way down in quality, they added insult to injury and went from coconut to soy oil in their popcorn. After that, it was a once a year visit. And that was only good for action films ( big screen goodness ). I don't know at what point even action films in the theatre started sucking, but I will say 2013 was the last time I really enjoyed a theatre film. Tried once more in 2014 and little joy. Haven't been since.

    6. The mom and pop video stores didn't really affect the theater business much until the latter nineties. They, the producers did not release anything new until after they'd made the rounds to the movie houses. Now days, many are released immediately to DVD. I don't see how theatres stay in business now days.

    7. Okay, gotcha. I do remember about a years delay in video releases in the Eighties. Now you see the streaming sites offer rentals a week or two after the theatre. Perhaps the insane rental price means the theatres have a chance. $10, $12, $15 to RENT?? I wouldn't pay that much for a DVD. I can't see how our town supports two theatres.

  2. The other night after supper I ran up through all 8 channels on TV (over the air) and every single one of them had negro's on it. So I hit the off button as I usually do and went and found something better to do.

TV seems to be mostly worthless now and it was that way even when we were paying $80/mth for the dish (5+ years ago), the diff now is, that it doesn't cost anything, and I still don't watch it.

Now, if you think about what I just wrote a little deeper you must conclude that someone MUST be watching that stuff otherwise how could the advertisers continue to pay long green to be on there? If that is true, that people are indeed watching that trash, what does that tell you about the watchers? A similar take on what Ave mentioned above, people buy trash just as well as anything else. Trash people.....

    2. The hollyweird bunch started with Archie Bunker using the sit-com to show every white, male, father as a complete dumbass. Everyone on the shows was smarter than him and was discounted by his wife, kids, and black-gay-mexican neighbors. I don't watch them any more...

    3. Hmm, never did watch them in the first place.

  3. I don't watch tv

I have a voucher for the movies that I'm struggling to use. I think I'll go see that new death wish remake when it comes out.

I do think that the movies are propaganda. The US Military won't "help" any movie that puts them in a bad light. They even will "help" with the scripts.

The Nazi's (I have been told) used movies as pure entertainment. They made some movie about sacrificing for hitler and goebels was horrified and ordered all copies to be destroyed (of course one survived).

    1. The Nazi's were efficient with their limited resources. Americans are beyond wasteful with their surpluses. And VERY inefficient. We can't even propagandize properly. I discount any efforts along those lines.

  4. I don’t know. I think that you might be giving Americans far greater credit than they deserve. I think that outside of a very limited number, Americans don’t have an original thought in their heads. If you were to take and sort the majority of the population today, 99% of them would fall into two major thought camps:

You have the leftist, feminist, multiculturalism, LGBT supporting (Remember the good old days in the 1980’s, when even liberals weren’t above poking fun at fags?) tree hugging, man made climate change believing, freaks on the left, that will mindlessly support everything on the list with nary a deviation.

Sadly, you will find pretty much the same amongst what passes for the modern right: Mindless support for imperial wars (if you disagree, you’re a liberal pussy) Kris Kyle was a hero (No he wasn’t, he was a fucking asshole. And fuck you Clint Eastwood for peddling that shit movie). Thank a soldier for your freedom (sorry folks, but since anyone here reading this has been alive, none of our wars have had a damn thing to do with protecting your freedom, because it wasn’t Habib on the other side of the globe that was a threat to your freedoms, it was your own damn govt). Mindless support for our trigger happy, militarized, modern law enforcement thugs, “that thanklessly put their lives on the line to protect and serve you” (i.e. protect and serve the states power over your life) and so on.

And I have to go along with 1:59 above. Hollywood is pure filth now, with absolutely no originality, as evidenced by anything worth a shit having been remade to pc standards. So outside of the rare tv series, I rarely watch it anymore, and the current list is shrinking daily.

    1. Aren't most people sheep, everywhere? Granted, the Americans take it to the logical conclusion. Can't disagree with any of the above. You definitely have to lower your standards watching TV. Netflix original programming is full retard liberal. Okay, I get it, a show about two law partners turning gat and leaving their wives for each other. At 70 years old. Martin Sheen and Lilly Tomlin are good actors. But I REALLY don't want to see the guys kissing. You are 70. You hump monthly, if you are viral. No PDA's, dammit! Then there are the ones that just throw the odd gay blade fudge packing in for pretty close to no reason. Angry grappling and kissing prior to butt piracy? I throw up a bit in my mouth. I thought this was a show about the early PC industry? Anyway, my head hurts at the end of the night and I'm going to watch something on TV. I'm not sure what it does to me :)

    2. That rant had been building up in me for a while James, and it felt good to get it off my chest. At the present time, I’m not watching any television shows. Last season I watched a little of The Middle and the Goldberg's, but I didn’t even bother to tune in this season. Generally speaking though, the only shows that I watch are survival related (Dual Survival, Survivorman, etc) since there’s little room to insert pc into such shows, and I also enjoy watching them.

Oddly enough, I consider myself to be a right winger. But when I make such a claim, I mean so in the truest sense of the word. Meaning that I’m consistently anti-government across the board (completely legalize drugs, abortion, prostitution, etc). I kind of have to laugh when some liberal refers to some mainstream republican as a “right winger”, because it tells me right off that these idiots have no idea how the political scale even works (modern republicans are a lot of things, but right wing isn’t one of them).

This site is like a breath of fresh air, because there are few places where I would fit in with my views, since the modern right wouldn’t have me, and I sure as hell wouldn’t fit in with the left. Even those that you think might be on to something, end up disappointing you. I happened to catch a portion of that show hosted by Dana Loesch, and even she was pushing that Chris Kyle character as some kind of hero, so I knew right there that I could never take anything that she says seriously again. Then again, she’s on the Blaze, which is Glenn Cuck’s network, so I should have known better to begin with.

    3. I used to be pretty pure libertarian but I can se a few leftist positions as regards to curbing the excesses of capitalism. Of course, NO ideology survives implimentation. All the pro-capitalists give lip service to the theory rather than the reality. Same with socialists. One thing that bothers me about even delving into politics is the labeling issue. You can't even use accepted labels as they have all been coopted. Not that we have to worry about it too long. Without any surplus, all the political systems which allocated wealth will be obsolete.

    4. When you control the language (words and terms) you control the thoughts. Liberal vs Conservative, Republican vs Democrat, Freedom vs Security. When you control the words and thoughts you can control the debate creating only the solutions you want to see as the only choices. Abortion, Drugs, Immigration, Gun Rights, Death Penalty - all debates with created terms forcing a false dichotomy to support the false dichotomy to the two wings of the governmental system- both of which, in the end support the police state in one way or another.
The US is a 'police' state. Pretty gentle for most much of the time at this point but it definitely is. No one in politics is going to more than slightly slow it becoming more of one. And, as the infrastructure crumbles local administrators in the name of the far off DC will become the local lords with power of life and death and slavery with no real appeal over all (get sentenced to a private work prison and get aids or TB or ... while working 14 hrs a day for corporate profit). The BEST we can hope for is a massive fast collapse and die off to prevent a catabolic decline into a world where the Local PTB have advanced tech to enforce their rule, and no frontiers or freetowns to flee to.

    5. Capitalism is for between tribes and clans, Communism is for within the extended family, Socialism is for the township of limited tribes. Those are the levels they work at. Try and charge a kid for nursing at the mother's teat, and BOTH will slap you silly, same with old folks eating at the family table. Try not to charge a stranger from a distant city for the materials you produce, and soon you will be without those materials... Family, Clan, Tribe, Village/Neighborhood, City/Area, State/Nation. Politics and Economy are different at each level.

    6. Communism for extended family. Because they all have "according to their needs" based on your ability :). Today, anyway. It would work great "equal through time". Now I have the image of a nursing bade bitch slapping someone.
