RWANDA+BALKANS=CONGO 4
I'm all for giving the
Devil his due. Rawles wrote a pretty darn good novel twenty years
ago ( yeah, the last part, tacked on last minute, sucked. So did the
ending of One Second After. It's not an automatic disqualifier ).
Unfortunately, I think it planted the toxic mind worm in most
preppers mind that valiant Christian soldiers would patrol their neck
of the woods, and that was about it for the military component.
Well, except for millions of pages of discussion of which was the
best semi-automatic weapon to use doing it. You know who else didn't
win a war with defensive patrols? Us, in Vietnam.
*
Defense is what poor
raggedy ass villagers do, because they lack skills or equipment or
numbers and so digging ditches and erecting walls is their default
position. The enemy cannot get enough food outside the walls and
soon goes home. But defense sucks. You NEED it, but it doesn't win
your wars. Offense does. Civilized Christians somehow believe
defense is all they are allowed to do, to stay just and moral. They
are the original Victim Card players ( or was that the Jews? I'm
weak on theology here ). Granted, they sucked monkey balls at
crusades, but they sure made up for it come Inquisition time.
*
Preppers, religious or
not, are also default set on Defense Only. I don't remember a whole
lot on military tactics, taught to me almost forty years ago ( taught
ineptly, but still some exposure ), but the one thing that stood out
on exercises was that the ambushers always won. Sure, if you TRY you
can screw even that up, but it is hard. The brass, being oblivious
to all but their next promotion, conducted those exercises and then
promptly taught us even more defensive tactics. Even the President
was just waiting for the Soviets to attack before doing anything.
*
I know, that isn't
quite correct, but there was a general consensus that defense was
necessary so that our battalions were on God's side. I understand
today's war might be different, with more offense, but somehow I'm
thinking, not really. Halliburton makes more profits building Green
Zones. And all our drones do is kill wedding parties, so while
offensive it isn't very effective. Not that we want our troops
unduly exposed, for zero purpose, but the general attitude corrupts
our basic understanding ( yes, you LRRP's got targets of opportunity.
It was a moral booster. But a side show, not the focus ).
*
Get this through your
Kevlar encased brainpan. Defense allows the enemy to choose time and
target. Offense means you are not the one being ambushed. You
become the mugger, not the poor schlub who even if aware doesn't know
around what corner an attack is coming. Is combat really where you
want to forfeit any advantage? This is why I'm not a huge fan of
bulky bullet resistant vests and high rates of fire, because ultra
light weight is how you more effectively go on the offensive.
Armoring up with overlapping fields of fire is how you go defensive,
waiting to hopefully not die. As a bushwhacker, you only must worry
about hoping you kill more people ( all other things such as planning
in working order, obviously ).
*
I'm not saying to only
focus on one at the expense of the other. I'm suggesting that one is
a better strategy than the other, as a default. And I understand
that, seemingly, defense is all we can practice. We sure cannot go
offensive against the SWAT team 3AM no knock attack forces. We just
wait around for the next Waco or Ruby. But we ain't winning the war
that way, are we? And no, I'm not suggesting rebellion. I'm
pointing out an example of defeat by defense.
*
Do you think when the
Boogaloo goes Full Retard that defense is going to be a winning
strategy? Of course not. Remember, the Die-Off is going to be fast
and furious. It has to be, or we will all die as the resources are
far too limited. Do you think it was an accident that the federal
government centralizes resources? Of course it isn't. Domestic
troops are shipped the bulk of munitions as needed, so that Civil War
Two cannot happen. The Feds are not worried about guerrilla war.
Hell, they taught the Russians how to fight Chechnya. Artillery,
until no support group survives. That is the reason we are stuffed
in cities, why Paris was rebuilt with wide straight avenues.
*
The Feds control our
food supply. And some Gomer in his backyard growing broccoli isn't
going to feed himself ( it is a great activity, gardening, to sooth
the stress. But realistically, you're just a better nourished corpse
). A fool studies tactics ( ma AR! ), a better educated fool studies
strategy ( I'll take my AR on the offensive! ), and a master studies
logistics ( here's the farms, got an AR to defend that? ). Most of
the Fed soldiers are overseas. They are not needed here in most
places, even after the Boog starts. The grain belt is depopulated,
perfect tank country and gasoline can be disrupted easily from
centralized refineries.
*
Now, how are YOU going
to use offense and defense in conjunction with controlling the
logistics? Poser logistical managers think stockpiles are logistics,
by the way. Logistics start at the source, which is farm and mine,
not JUST store and factory. Defensive only is going to get you
killed in the die-off. Offense only starves off the inevitable
defense forces defeat. Logistics, and how to procure, make and hold,
that is where you focus your offense.
*
Look at the Congo.
Soldiers attack “innocent” medical workers. They kill potential
opposition breeders, or rape them ( a form of genetic conquest, with
a bonus of wasted resources for the enemy, raising your genes.
Primarily terror, of course, but offensive ). They wipe out
OtherTribes by attacking and ambushing the farmers, denying food
production. The Balkans were similar. The wholesale slaughter of
old people, women and children was the denial of a logistics base for
your enemy. In Rwanda, whole villages were killed off, to eliminate
calorie competition.
*
That is what awaits
you. This ain't going to be no pretty uniformed conflict, a
gentleman's war. This is war in the most brutal primal sense, killing
off the innocent as strategy. Like firebombing civilians in Dresden.
It had no military value, and even its terror dividend was
diminished by that time. It was simply eliminating ALL the enemy.
The breeders, the farmers, the future breeders or farmers, those
offering no viable labor potential ( geriatrics ). The Germans were
doing the same with the Jews, complete elimination, so it wasn't as
if they were innocent themselves. The hypocrisy is the only thing I
disagree with, not the strategy.
*
The Rape Of Nanjing
wasn't just “Yellow Monkey's” acting inhumane. The Russians did
he same in Germany, least you think any race is above that kind of
thing. The Balkan genocides weren't just religious atrocities. This
is how, real world, you eliminate the enemy who has the audacity to
covet YOUR food supply. If you feel “above” such behavior, you
are going to be cannibal scat. If I have to clarify all that, you
are going to die, quickly. Choose, it's not an option to fight under
the Geneva Convention. It is to go Total War, or go home in a box.
The apocalypse isn't as much fun as it used to be, is it?

It's a choice between hiding in your hermitage by yourself, and defending if needed. Hoping you won't be found.
ReplyDeleteOr join a local group and go on the offensive. But tribe is almost nonexistent now in the USA.
And very few Americans can overcome their moral feelings and attack nearby towns or cities....
We will all have to do the heavy lifting of quick and dirty, life and death, tribe member selection. Doesn't matter if they are a doctor or mechanic, only if you can trust them, and they are willing to OJT combat. I'll see if ruminating on that creates a spark for future articles
DeleteOMG Jim,
ReplyDeleteIf you didn't guess, I am a senior...and can't be digging
trenches for concealment in any offensive ambush activity.
You have scared the shite out of me by laying out the
reality of armed conflict...wartime goals/guerilla fights.
The bottom line is to kill and destroy as much as keeps
the invaders hopped up and moving. Defense is worthless.
Defense isn't worthless, it is just overrated, overemphasized. I too am past ditch digging age. Creativity encouraged, and necessary.
DeleteJeez dood , I'm like fifteen years oldern you and even more screwed up , but I'll still dig a ditch. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast they say. Pain ain't nothin but your body screaming that it's alive heh.
DeleteOh, I'll be able to dig a ditch, if I can go slow enough. I can still do everything I used to. In increments, with breaks in between. The question is, does it get done on a human scale or a geological one
DeleteElderly folk who need a defensive hole dug...
DeleteHire a local teenager to dig your defensive ditch/hole now. Tell them you want to plant a tree there. If they follow up with you later as to why a tree wasn't planted there, you just say the money you allocated for it had to be spent on something else. Leave the dirt the way they left it. When you need the hole/ditch, then you can contour the dirt piles to the way you need them.
Romans 14:11
I see it this way , Exercise and stay alive. Lay around watching TV , get fat and die.
DeleteYesterday , went and got a truckload of nice black top soil , for some raised beds. Wifey gets these monster pots from the zoo , that trees come in. They must be like seventy five gallon pots ! Make for good raised beds...sweet spuds will love em.
I don't disagree. You should exercise until you die. I have real good built in lazy detector, where my back lets me know if I haven't gotten enough walking in. The pain of that is less than the back pain. And I still want cardio, for keeping NOL happy. Plus, blood actually circulating helps the brain with the writing. NOT exercising is not an option. I just have to lower expectations. Instead of just throwing in the AC after biking out to the B-POD, I had to bike, then rest. Lug in the AC, then rest. Clear the appliances to get the AC cord access. Rest. Install AC, rest. Then put everything back. Instead of racing down the highway like I used to, I have to keep pulling into the rest stop as the engine heats up. Even driving only 55.
DeleteRight. Excellent work Jim, and really nice hair too.
ReplyDeleteThis bullet point presentation is spot on target and a good analogy to many a current instance. Example for mental gaming study is The police in a chicken shit kinda 'Merican city (minneapolis, wtf?) cannot hold their own police precinct building and it is over run, by irregulars of the lowest order no less. (Green zone outpost, like any .gov edifice) Instead of force projection on behalf of the community at large that they are employed and paid by, they shirk all governance responsibility and fold up. Punks.
The collapse and boogaloo spicy times are going to go so frigging easy for the real cadre deplorables that their support staff traveling in column formations (pick ups with flags flapping from the rear tailgates and r.v.s full of their booster babe squads) will be sherpa cargo carrying the raw grocery products to make Smores and toast weiners at the burning ruins of the conquests. That kinda way.
I at least learned something from my jogger american chums during their televised foray. I'll carry a large heavy duty contracter's type of trash bag with my (beard boy gay assed up) e.d.c. kit, so as to have a carry all looting sack for opportunist looting package stuffing, if outside the compound during spicy outbreaks. When in rome, do as those roman lads do.
Light and fast infantry, though harder and more risky initially, has better spoils of war, only if you got balls >and< are victorious.
Stay mobile and frosty.
Of course there is the classic Fort Apache and Assault On Precinct 13, on Fortress Police fiction, but don't forget the original Heavy Metal. Kick ass music, but also a segment on the same subject
DeleteLet's face it. What happened at the Minneapolis police precinct is a misleading example of the effectiveness of a good defense in a feral world. I have not heard one report so far about the police firing the first shot. For political reasons, the powers that be decided to withdraw rather than to fire several well-aimed shots into the crowd. One lone police sniper would have sent the rioters running helter-skelter. Those in charge simply decided to sacrifice the police station than to alienate voters who would go to the polls in November.
ReplyDeleteChoose a scenario that results in the breakdown of society. If that scenario involves permanent entry into a Mad Max World, certain tactics will be necessary. If that scenario involves a "One Second After" situation where people simply have to hold on until order is inevitably restored, other tactics will be necessary.
If there is a reasonable chance that order will be restored in a few months, then adopting a defensive strategy bears serious consideration. A group can "win" by simply surviving until order is restored. If competent people are in control of the group, the conventional military view is that it takes one defender for every three attackers. Thus, a battalion defends against a brigade, a brigade against a division, etc.
Post-breakdown, a well-armed, well led group might decide to hunker down and to wait for the powers that be to restore order. They may have no choice. Age differences can mean that a high percentage of defenders will be effective on the defense, but generally of little value on the offense. Running and gunning will not be an option for many, even most in the group, but even an 85-year-old can put a bullet between the eyes of a 25-year-old at 200 yards--or make the 25-year-old think he can.
On the defense, a group can make itself a hard target, one not worth the challenge/losses to aggressors (Think Finland or other small European countries and Russia.) As long as there is low hanging fruit elsewhere, predators will be inclined to focus their efforts there. The decision will be a simple risk/benefit analysis.
A target filled with people in camos and black rifles will likely be passed by in favor of one filled with Bubbas carrying pump shotguns, and wearing tank tops, Bermuda shorts and flip-flops.
While a conflict can generally not be won on the defense, a group might decide that time is on their side and decide that defense presents their best chance for riding out the crisis until order is restored.
Until order is restored. If the hermitage is in a route path of a conquest force then it cannot be allowed to exist as an abscess pimple on the face of their areas of control, and it will be over run or smoked out. Only absolute fealty or alliance to any slightly larger or better equipped oppostion force can prevent eventual slaughter. Many simple militia or such groups controlled non government held areas and remained under conflict seige conditions for years at a stretch. Whether normalcy is hacked and jacked by simple weather events or joggers running buck wild in the streets, expectations and follow on actions should commence for a no returning to normalcy conditions and just go to a very high defcon status.
DeleteJunk land-no one else wants it. Junk area-no one else needs it. That is why mountains are usually such a safe bet. Just don't be in a critical mountain pass
DeleteRational folks may bypass hard targets.
DeleteIrrational folks -- certain religionists come to mind -- are probing your defenses as we speak.
Assuming the enemies -- those nincompoops delighting in sucking your eyeballs from your screaming skull -- always act predictably... well, that may not work every time.
Instead, assume the enemies are coming to obliterate everything you built, as if you and your heritage never existed.
Defending against them?
Unlikely.
Hunt them, annihilate them... while preserving your calories and absorbing their calories.
But I am old with a diminishing patience for most humans.
In a few months or years, the other side won't look like this, our graceful tree-line avenues, gates in white picket-fences inviting strolling neighbors to join us on the veranda for a lemonade.
And this brings us to the subject of tall pork.
Whack 'em, then leave those calories for the buzzards?
In mid-2020, some of us might (temporarily) think cannibalism is 'distasteful', but the enemies will use those calories to defeat you.
One chance, one opportunity, one window to act.
And like lottery gambling, the odds do not accrue.
Each minute is a new ticket in a new game.
My suggestion:
Learn everything you can about the psychopath brain.
Yes, it's wired different.
Can you recruit them to act in your interests?
Unlikely.
Can you learn to emulate them, switching your SAVAGE on/off?
If you won't go SAVAGE, why bother pretending to prep?
Good points. Why bother to prep, indeed, like those namby pamby Hurricane Preppers? They are prepared for Uncle Sugar to roll the unicorn cavalry in and save them. Works so well, every time! Be prepared for civilization collapse, 99% die-off. Now, as far as long pork? Be cautious. It is a limited advantage, and the odds are you run out of food or your food kills you. Got wheat?
DeleteAre Beard Boy Tactics defensive only?
DeleteIt's whatever it takes to look cool
DeleteNot leaving long pork because your enemy might feast on it to gain strength to overpower you...?
DeletePerhaps a better strategy would be to set up an overwatch position over the long pork and eliminate the cannibals that show up to harvest it. A definite moral quandary to think about.
Romans 14:11
The Washington post article said since 2015 cops have shot and killed twice as many White people as Black people.
DeleteBetter they eat each other than come steal your wheat.
DeleteLet the trip wires and claymores deal with em if they get too close.
8:15-that would be racist. Like when we wake up in the morning. No matter what Whites do, we are racist.
Delete*
8:20-good stats, thank you. I had no idea, and cannot believe that slipped past the censors
*
Spud-good point. Just seems like its better to completely eliminate that kind of threat. Like leprosy. Although, lepers for dinner means you don't need knives or tenderizer LOL
Just wire the dead. Enemy tries to eat them and joins them.
DeleteWhat problem can't be solved with a suitable application of high explosive? :)
DeleteMaybe it isn’t offense vs defense as the critical issue. Maybe it is static vs mobile approach to organizing daily life. The feds tried to go on the offensive against American Indian tribes, and usually could not find them without grueling efforts. Mobility works as an offensive and defensive strategy.
ReplyDeleteGood point on mobility. One good reason to be a herder, among others
DeleteI like the mobility idea a lot except it is only for the healthy young adult, especially males. But if there are young adult females in your group, you can start reproducing once the hard-core violence reduces.
DeleteOld humpers can walk, bike and ride, right? Old nomads aren't always necessarily put on the ice flow
DeleteWalk yes,but with what? and for how long? and carrying what? sounds like an article to me 😁
DeleteWell, obviously, wearing plate carriers, 600 rounds poodle shooter, PRC radios and facial hair grooming kit. For about a third of a mile before the first break.
DeleteYou are assuming an old timer is a cripple. I am in my 60's with health issues ( insulin dependent diabetes), as long as my insulin and vitamins hold out (a year or more stored) I am not impressed with most youngsters and can out work most of them. They are a bunch of softies ( the women for sure)
DeleteI could kick almost any 18 year old's ass in my late 40's. Now, not so much. Lungs are shot. I can be as hard as I want and will power isn't enough at this point
DeleteEven when people are driven by starvation, logic (if logical thought actually occurs in their minds) will drive them to choose the weaker targets if they are available. Predators always focus on the sick, weak, and young in the herd. Seldom do predators take on the herd bull unless he comes out to meet them.
ReplyDeleteThe size of predatory forces that will actually be focusing their attention on defensive positions will be controlled by the ability to meet its daily needs. A predatory group composed of, say, 100 or 200 wolves, will have a serious day-to-day logistical requirement. It cannot stay for long in a specific area. Like a plague of locusts, it must keep moving in order to sustain itself because food in the area will be rapidly consumed. Sherman, for example, was able to sever contact with his supply train only because he foraged from Southern farms on his way to Savannah. (Foraging is a nice word for looting.)
If defenders offend, irritate, or embarrass the predators, this will change the dynamics. The issue becomes personal at that point, and risk/benefit analysis is not the driving force. It becomes personal. Hunkering down and lying low will be the best way to avoid taking the conflict to an altogether different level.
On the defenders' side, if all hope of the cavalry coming to the rescue evaporates, then its tactics will need to be re-evaluated.
Hermitage is still Very Winning.
DeleteStrategy and logistics change with the seasons. Maybe hunker down in the winter, and go on the offensive in the summer.
DeleteReturn to the historical norm, in other words. But if you can get around that, you gain the advantage
DeleteThe Bible says ' it was the time of year when kings go out to war.'. I always wondered what that was. From the last comment I think I have a clue!
DeleteRight, you have to be able to forage, to feed men and beasts. One part of Napoleons success was forward placed supplies. Alexander The Great used better logistics, I believe placed by the navy. Both got around the foraging issue, but it was rare enough to be the exception until very recently ( probably with the advent of trains, but don't quote me )

ReplyDeleteSweet! Handiman gigs are rare. Congrats. And excellent on avoiding working in town. I would call you "hermitage, with benefits"
DeleteHandyman gigs are a common thing. If you're known to be handy at things and not greedy, known and friendly. Great way to know your neighborhood too and their level of preparedness.
DeleteJust don't allow the neighbors to know your own level of preparedness. Let them believe you are destitute and barely able to survive hah hah
I'm thinking more along the lines, as the economy tanks, unemployment shoots up, less work will be farmed out ( as long as there is YouTube, especially ). So to get work three months into this turd theater, a handiman gig is an accomplishment
Delete
