hero or dumbass

HERO OR DUMBASS
I knew there was a reason I hated super hero movies. I mean, I watched Superman when it came out during High School. I wasn't blown away, it was an okay weekend matinee movie. I didn't hate it or even particularly care about it. It just didn't waste my limited spending money ( our town had a huge library, as well as a huge used book store. The used books were usually under a dollar. I always had more books than time. But I had one shot a week at a movie ). But I do NOT like today's drivel.
*
Of course a lot of it is my age. I never liked comic books ( although Sgt Rock was pretty good ) when I was growing up. Books and my imagination beat comics all to hell. Except Heavy Metal because both better stories, 1%, and boobs, magical boobs, 99% ( mothers teaching their daughters that breasts are of no significance are setting the poor bitch up for failure through life ). I don't go for drawn boobs now, having the real thing. And when VHS tapes came out, how were comics going to compare with unlimited choices in real action movies ( back before that, theater movies delivered more pleasure than buying comics )?
*
So, I never cared for superhero's. I went through my D&D phase, but burned out on fantasy ( really, just superhero's in Medieval clothing ) completely very soon. You could call survivalism a sort of fantasy, and I'm sure some leftist soy eating goober types have made a case for that, but even if true hoarding guns and gold is no worse than escaping to a world of magic and dragons. Hell, the same college asswhores probably thought we were sacrificing bats to Satan while we were playing at fantasy anyway. They live in their own fantasy world, Commie Cornucopia.
*
I think what angers me about superheros in entertainment today is that this is about the only crap we get a choice of watching. And, everyone THINKS they are a superhero ( but more on that shortly ). There are a few great movies every year. No one is claiming all movies suck. But how many movies about sacrifice and honor do you see? The newest one that comes to mind is “Brawl In Cellblock 99” ( although, I'm aware I'm forgetting several. Or, I don't recall details enough ). The LibTards can't keep the old school movies from being made, so they remake them into garbage or give them no exposure.
*
Why did so many people enjoy “Death Wish” when it came out? It wasn't because Charles Bronson was a great actor ( didn't he pretty much play the same guy? ). And it wasn't JUST because when it came out crime was a pretty big deal. Yes, it did cater to wish fulfillment ( middle class fantasy of reversing the decline ). But it was about honor, and the sacrifice that entailed. It wasn't just cheap thrills from vigilantism ( which is what the liberal press pushed ). So of course, they had to remake it with Bruce Willis, who is so past his prime he makes Nicolas Cage look like Al Pacino ( forty years ago ).
*
What did the remake achieve? It was a tiny jab at the anti-gun crowd ( only by virtue of its timing ). But mostly, it tried to impart a negative response to the original, guilt by association. They did the same with Red Dawn. I tried to watch a YouTube  analysis of the original version. I was rather excited when I found it. But he just kept repeating himself and I stopped about the 25% mark. So, I feel compelled to offer my own analysis ( very short version, as I'm just making points about a completely different subject ).
*
The movie is a classic, and not because we are harboring some homoerotic fascination with the star ( whose acting was forever soured when ex-wife baby momma had me view “Ghost” far too many times. I'm not sure about Dirty Dancing. If that was also the case, the trauma thankfully erased my memory ). It was about noble sacrifice. The plot was janky, the acting wasn't bad but the characters were not well expanded ( not that it was an issue, being an action film ), a case could be made for melodrama and Cold War propaganda, but none of that matters. Because it was about fighting for classic values. It was antithesis to current culture ( or, at least the direction ).
*
If you look at Milius' earlier writing in Apocalypse Now, similar themes were present. Red Dawn almost achieved epic status, but it was a much more tight study. Critics of course could never address the underlying values, and focused on the superficial. There were a thousand jabs at it ( “the only Black man in the movie is killed right away” ), because the propagandists could do nothing else as they tried to eliminate the message. Sacrifice matters. But of course, the sacrifice has to mean something. Apocalypse Now asks about the sacrifice, Red Dawn shows the kind of war worth sacrificing yourself in.
*
And the critics HATE that. All war is the same, bad, because all violence is bad ( how else can Latino's take over the country, if they are violently opposed? How else can females establish a Matriarchy, without emasculating men? ). They cannot fathom, in good times, how previous sacrifice earned them their luxury and decadence ( the LibTards are doing nothing new, the same disdain for martial values in all decaying empires at the end ). They think a grocery clerk is noble, dare they say heroic or even, their thighs quiver at the thought, a superhero?
*
Grocery clerk would never think dying for your country is a good thing. Staying alive, in service, THAT is good. And he serves, heroically, by braving Black Death Corona! He is our selfless public servant, braving death to bag grandma's carton of eggs and jug of orange juice. Just as nurses, staffing an empty hospital ( no non-essential diseases allowed! ) are SUUUPERRRR! Let us all fall to our unemployed knees and chant, we're not worthy! Good Baby Jesus Himself, Christ on a humping cracker! They open their mouths and so much craps rolls out, you can't stay afloat. I'll continue this feces festival tomorrow.

  1. At least the old superheroes were actually somewhat heroic. Now they all have to be flawed and conflicted, at least the white ones.

Also a Sgt Rock fan back in the day.

    1. Sgt Rock-the Germans were always screaming Gott Im Hemmel like little girls! Funny that programming didn't stick.

  2. I started reading Sci-Fi in the 70's and when Stars Wars came out in the late seventies I was at the head of the line for 5 or 6 showings.

I also loved historical fiction by Kenneth Roberts. As well as C. S. Forester's Hornblower. At one point my mother threaten to take away my library card since I was neglecting my school work.

    1. But you learned more from the library than from school, didn't you? Mine tried to shovel overcooked bunny food down my throat. And wouldn't let me beat my sister senseless. Time has proven my side of the argument-now my sister is a rabid PC Left Coaster, mold-ering young minds. A good beat down might have cured that.

  3. Yeah, the "hero worship" has gone off the deep end. Speaking as someone affiliated with health care, yes there ARE some amazing nurses, maybe a fraction are actually heroic in their own way, but JUST being a nurse does not make one a hero. Same with Docs. Most Ive met are over-educated morons- they know medicine, and probably some finance and... medicine. End of list. A couple LEOs I've worked with were great, stand up guys; most are not and none Ive personally known would I consider heroic. Don't even get me started on Fire personnel. Yes, the potential for danger is high, but if 99% of your time "on the clock" is NOT dealing with that particular danger, are you a hero just cuz of your uniform? Not in my book...

And for the record, I do NOT consider myself a hero in any way shape or form. Just another minion sick and tired of the self congratulatory nonsense.

    3. He’s referring to those choreographed videos, that a bunch of nurses and hospital staff uploaded to TikTok, Jim (It’s basically a Chinese owned version of youtube) during the height of the pandemic. This, when the hospitals were said to be filled to the brim, and nurses were said to be exhausted from the work load. I’m not claiming to have firsthand knowledge of the veracity of any of this. But to be honest, my own personal experiences with our medical industry have been very poor, and I tend to not give it the benefit of any doubt.

      Here’s one such video:

    4. I had an inkling both sides made propaganda videos. I had no idea what TikTok is. Thanks for the clarification

Boy, you don’t know how lucky you are to have dodged that steaming pile of shit. Every time that shitfest was on, my mother had to watch it, so I probably hate it more than most. They actually that reprocessed that dung heap (One imagines, with some magical minorities, empowered fems, and turd burglars, tossed in for good measure) back in 2017.

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering. Somebody does put Baby in a corner :D

    2. Also teachers aren't hero's. They wanted the easiest job they could get working indoors. Work for 9 months then go to Europe for a three month vacation. This virus proved how much a waste of time and money modern education is. They are just going to pass every kid no matter what.

    3. Putting aside the issue that every child is a meat sack of stupid and no sane person can deal with them, you are basically correct. I would stipulate that 10% of teachers do care, and do make a difference. But they aren't enough to justify saving the system. Nuke it from orbit.

  6. Right. The collapse and spicy times will cause a reevaluation of pecking orders and what really constitutes "earning one's bones". This will occur within the same flagged and uniformed entities amongst their own staffing (cleaning house internally of dead weight) as well as the general population. The largess and gravy days are over thus resource contraction and conflicts will harden up folks and raise the standards bar on all elements of human endevours in societies. The problem presented to many a Minion is: what to do with all of these Beta individuals in positions that are over their head and they are just traffic in the way of everyone else that is productive? Quite a quandry. Stay frosty amongst all that human detritus out there.

  7. Our local teachers now have signs in their front yards proclaiming them "heroes" - and I gently explained to Pugsley that, no, they're not. They're just doing their job. And most soldiers aren't heroes, either, although what they are doing is (for many) very honorable.

I then told Pugsley about a soldier that ran towards a burning airplane to save the pilot, and got him out before he exploded.

The Mrs., "You mean the plane. Pilots don't explode."

    *sigh*

See, it's tough at my house.

  8. Bison, I suspect we are of similar age. I can relate to all of what you wrote. Action movies are just that action. The hero was secondary, if indeed there was even a hero in the 80's/90's movies. But I remember growing up watching movies like the Guns of Navarone and the Dirty Dozen. Many may disagree, but true sacrifice and true character often came through well in those movies. Dare I say hero's existed in those movies. I think so. Red Dawn....one of my all time favorite movies.

    1. I avoided being a Baby Boomer by 25 days. Guns and Dirty are just a smidge before my time. I only enjoyed them as a kid, as the newer generation of films had completely different styles. But yeah, Red Dawn is right up there on my Top Movie list.

  9. My youngest son is an RN at the local hospital system. He was working one of the ICUs that they turned into the COVID unit. He says he has to put on some elaborate PPE and once he goes in the unit he can't come out for 12 hours. I assure you he isn't making tik toc videos. I know alot of them are milking the praise. I have friends in law enforcement, fire, medical, ems that are on facebook. Don't hate I have friends all over the world, but many of these friends brag how they are a nurse, cop, whatever. Most of them have never done shit. I don't toot my own horn because true or not it makes you a douche. If you have to mention it youre probably full of shit. Sorry rant over.

  10. I think everyone, all diversity hires, are on the chopping block-you don't get 50% unemployment ( to start ) by sparing anyone. They might be the last fired, but small comfort

  11. I’ve been giving a lot of thought as of late, to what 11:21PM had to say. As a middle-aged white dude, that lost his job in 2015, this has pretty much been my reality ever since then. But now it’s about to get a lot worse. I struggled the first year or so, trying to make money online, before landing a part time, under the table gig, working for a relative. But that will be coming to an end soon enough, so I have to once again try the online option.

If you are/were, in my situation. Beg, borrow, or steal (just a figment of speech) to get enough for a piece of junk land. Shelter, can be very cheap, and effective (Look up trench shelters). You won’t be able to afford to pay for rent much longer.

You can make money online, but unless you have skills, it’s not that easy. Say you’re a programmer, or web page designer. That might yield you above average online pay. Though I’m going to predict that web page design is probably about to take a massive hit. Since after all, how many business web pages can one design, after half of the small businesses in America, soon cease to exist? Also, as mentioned before, check temp agencies, and keep an eye out for day work, or seasonal work. Most dept stores are hiring for seasonal help during the holidays.

I saw this video from this one girl, and she had a lot of good suggestions for online work (And no, no affiliation).

How to Make $20 a Day (20 Sites!)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmEdWlkz7Co

So basically, we’re talking about a life of top ramen meals (Insert cheap food of your choice) and thrift store clothing here. And don’t forget to account for property tax, which should be next to nothing on junk land. And obviously, if you work online, you will have to factor in the cost of a connection, which can be as simple as tethering to a smart phone.

  12. You hint at the difficulties. Now times by ten, because nothing is going to stay the same. I don't think any of us can imagine what happens between now and actual Mad Max. No historical guidelines for the end of an oil age ( other energy sources are no where close, as they didn't allow hundreds of slaves per person )
