lizard brain

LIZARD BRAIN

Humans have a lot of baggage.  Mentally and emotionally we are full of crossed wires and recessed behavior and frankly a lot of amateur half assed programming.  Physically, just look to the appendix and tonsils and spinal support, acid reflux and tooth decay to throw a bit of disbelief at the whole design process whether that be divine or evolutionary.  We are, in short, a hot mess.  One residual with current repercussions is our lizard brain, the assumed older primitive brain that is akin to an animals without thinking or analysis-pure survival instinct.  This is a part of he brain we do not care for and have no use for.  If you look at us as a pack of screeching feces flinging chimpanzees, but with better tools mentally ( and somewhat physically ), we are just that, part of a pack.  We are not some majestic lone apex predator like a cat but rather part  of a hunting pack.  We survive by the pack and die without it.  So our brains are concentrated on pack behavior and the lizard brain has no part at the dinner table.  It really is as simple as that.  Survival instinct is dampened to favor pack behavior which is a superior survival tool than the individual effort.

*

And this has stood us in good steed.  Utilizing language, communicating to the group as I am doing to you, is a chimp group survival trait ( if you are religious, think of that as a metaphor for our base behavior, our primitive side, rather than a literal evolutionary behavior, so we can move forward with our discussion and not get bogged down with theological debate on origins.  Just because I believe in evolution doesn’t mean I’m right, but it is the best model I’m aware of ).  Chimps have more advanced pure raw animal survival instinct, but that is just Situational Awareness-they are still of the pack and for it.  We as humans have better pack behavior but really almost none of the primitive awareness.  Our brains are better than others but it doesn’t do you any good to engage in hubris about it-your brain is still a very limited tool you would do well to see as such.  We can do some things well with it such as group dynamics and some things not so well, like adding too many other skills.  In modern parlance, the hard drive is already full up and you can’t do anything more with it.  You can change but not add.

*

This is where social deviants and outcasts shine.  Having repressed group dynamic skills, they can better utilize other neuron connections and reinforcements ( this is the process-you repeat an action to reinforce the brain connections until they are semi-permanent ).  In our case, a better connection to the lizard brain.  To a fully functional social member, this is seen as dysfunctional, irrational, fear riddled and fantasy.  But in essence, what is occurring but a better connection to normally unutilized functions of the brain?  If not under-utilized.  All you are doing in this case is taking brain function usually spent socializing for survival and using it for self survival.  You are one of the least socialized members who is still of the tribe but is more threatened by it than protected, and so the survival instinct is to use the brain functions you need to survive on your own.  So the question we now turn to is, how socialized are you?  Be honest, because lying to yourself is the first step in socializing your behavior for the benefit of the group.

*

Why do you think self awareness and intellectual honesty are so damn difficult?  Your brain is wired to the group.  You gladly reinforce self-delusional thinking if it is for the group.  Remember, repeated neural connections.  That is the key.  Rinse and repeat because use makes that memory muscle stronger.  A person tells you their name.  You repeat it back to them and that reinforces the memory because instead of using the name once as audio you use it twice.  Usually, memory is like the survival tool rule that One Is None.  If you use it four or five times trying to do word association-Rita, Rita, sounds like Ritz Cracker, Ritz is Rita, Rita Ritz-you can almost assure yourself you’ve remembered the name.  When the professor tells an amusing antidote in his lecture, he is reinforcing the neural connection by repetition,  re-use reinforces.  When he drones on and on as if you have a recorder in your brain, you retain little ( “photographic memory” is just the ability to create stronger neural connections instantly-but since that hard drive is limited in capacity this also means this is at the expense of another function ).

*

If you try to trick your brain, training it with repetition to move away slightly from social herd behavior ( only the actual brain damage sociopath doesn’t have the hard wired unchangeable programming ), you can, with practice, learn to blunt this group behavior bias.  You won’t automatically throw yourself in front of the train so the group survives.  You’ll question the move first, at least, even if in the end you are still a smear on the track.  So, for instance, if you gave the matter some thought and came to the conclusion that 9/11 was no where near what it was reported to be ( I just ran across a hilarious example of denial the other day.  The Mob used substandard material in the buildings which is why the jet fuel burned the frame instantly.  I knew the Mafia hauled trash in New York, but evidently they also ran one of the worlds biggest steel mills! ), you have some ability to resist unthinkingly embracing group security above your own.  If you refuse to believe anything other than the official line, even after reading and researching yourself, you are a good little monkey in the tribe.

*

This is not to question your intelligence.  Frankly, a lot of the alternate views on 9/11 are just as hinky as the official one.  No, this is merely reflecting how sociable you are.  You further the tribes strength by worshiping the same totems, in this case the nation state invincibility.  The same can be said of fracking oil advocates ( see how nice I was, refraining from saying “fracking fags” this once, trying to be all professional and nonjudgmental? ) who are in effect strengthening national or tribal unity by believing energy, a means to an end, shan’t run out.  These are obvious examples of group delusion, only notable for their ridiculousness, but don’t congratulate yourself too heartily as these are merely representative.  You have so many illogical delusions you would be embarrassed if you had clue one.  But again, this doesn’t question how smart you are, it is only an amusing recollection of how we as a species survives.  It would be counterproductive to try to change MOST of it.

*

But you had better try to change SOME of it or you, my fine feathered minion, are getting thrown under the bus.  By which I mean metaphorically only insofar as the vehicle of your destruction.  As a species, group blindness is a wonderful thing, allowing us as individuals to perform for the group in the best way for the species survival.  But the species doesn’t care about the individual, and you need to realize this if you aren’t going to be first one to be lion scat from being on the edge of the herd at the water hole.  In times of population contraction, if you retain complete socialization you die with most of the rest.  You live in your monkey tribe hive in the big city, eating from the same trough supplied from two thousand miles away, waving the tribal banner vigorously, allowing no dissent of the decisions made by the Big Monkey Chief, what chances do you think you have of survival ( socialized monkey men also dare not question the Group Think of Yuppie Survivalism, Tri-State Relocation, Semi-Auto Invincibility or other group binding artifact worship-they bought down on the food chain from National to Tribal, but still worship the Big Chief who is unquestionable )?

*

This is where I begin to question the viability or advisability of pre-collapse socializing for tribe formation.  Not because of Op-Sec, that is not the consideration.  Just like with a marriage, you trust All In or not at all.  If you are joining a tribe, or forming one, you must delivery total trust or go alone.  No, my opposition stems from the type of people that just might be working with a slightly higher chance of success.  Non-sociable types don’t socialize, by definition.  And by being unsocial they have enough innate ability to reject Group-Think, which while species survival positive in the long run, does prove counterproductive during a collapse and die-off.  I’m not talking of the ability to live as a hermit.  I’m talking about the ability to call bullcrap on the general agreement that All is Well Enough Even If Far From Perfect.  Which will get you killed if you believe it.  Which most of you do.  You might prep, but do REALLY believe the end is nigh?  Or are you just being a good Boy Scout?  Just buying insurance.  That way, you are still part of the monkey tribe, you are just consuming.  By rejecting any signals from your Lizard Brain you are in effect voting for the tribes welfare over your own, hence hoping to be embraced by the group and then saved.

*

All this hoopla we are engaged in, debating if this ship is going down?  That is group mind foreplay.  You are ignoring the fear signal from your lizard brain.  Ever laugh uproariously at the antics of a cat?  Say, it is startled and jumps straight up in the air, or it uses extra caution entering a room it just came from?  You are mocking its primitive survival instincts.  You think your monkey mind is superior.  And it is.  Until it isn’t.  No one is saying it is a good idea to shut of your social organizational proclivities.  You MUST use them to survive.  But as far as worrying about what is to come, what danger lies in wait, what preps are necessary, if you can’t suppress your tribe mind and listen to your lizard brain, you are screwing yourself.  And primarily that means you stop acting like you care what others think.  Peer pressure and embarrassment are two powerful tools keeping you within acceptable behaviors for the group primacy.  If you act afraid to act like civilization is really going to collapse and soon, you are ignoring the lizard brain warning.  It knows some serious crap is happening, but the tribe mind refuses to believe ( the tribe is that little voice questioning whether the fear is justified ).  Well, your choice.  Just be aware of where your delusions and aspirations come from.

  1. Darwin himself stated that if his theory were correct, that you would see gradual, incremental changes in the fossil record. These have not been found. You've previously stated that you believe in the possibility of sudden, large advances in species. This theory is orders of magnitude LESS possible than Darwin's theory. I've told you before I have access to the inside of the scientific community. Darwinism is largely being abandoned, mostly to "panspermia" (we were CREATED by aliens!) and to Christianity (we were CREATED by God-the only realistically possible answer). Panspermia only pushes the question further out to "where did these other-worldly intelligent beings come from?"
    Peace out

    1. You are focused on a minor quibble. Even if Lord Xaxon Of Mars created us in a lab, you are still faced with our brain programming faults and limitations. And if we were created in the image of God, it was a third generation Xerox copy.

    2. Ha! He was one for alien colonization, wasn't he?

  2. Actually the loner guy is the guy people trust inside the tribe, the rest are just competing for status & totem pole rank or following their emotions.

You can see that in any organisation, at your workplace etc.

The loner inside the tribe distrust its members, hence he's able to pinpoint its shortcomings. (Which doesn't make him more popular, hence his isolation in the first place...)

  3. (Not directed at today’s post) But I get a kick out of the leftist, “I believe in science” crowd. They believe in science if they feel that it supports their crackpot theories (Gay gene, etc) and disregard it when it doesn’t. I remember well back in the days when liberals gleefully espoused the Darwinian Evolution Model to discredit Christianity (For the record, I’m an agnostic). But once the Hyper-PC age emerged, and his views with regards to gender and race were no longer “politically correct” they couldn’t throw that old dead bastard under the bus fast enough :D

Yeah, following 911, the PTB stopped trying all together (Bin Laden Assassination anyone?). They realized that they were putting too much effort into trying to fool a predominately room temperature IQ populace.

Sadly, I think that political correctness is going to kill a lot of those that overly suppressed the lizard part of brain. Nothing short of mobs of machete wielding minorities rapidly approaching, and chanting “kill whitey” will wake them up. (No, I’m not a hater, but I am a realist).

    1. Don't we all cherry pick "evidence" to support our world views?

    3. No, I didn't take it as such. Just being cynical-sarcastic-funny. I think :)

    4. Well, at least it was my attempt at cynical-sarcastic-funny :D It doesn’t come easy for some of us, so we have to work at it. I’d love to be a witty writer. Heck, if I had your writing skills I’d probably just start my own blog ;)

    5. My original writing, early 90's, was stilted and painful. I had a Libertarian broomstick up my ass-too much Rand, I think :) It took a long time to loosen up, have fun, enjoy a bit. If it wasn't what I had been born to do ( in desire, not talent ) it wouldn't have been worth the effort and practice to get this modicum of skill. Of course, what else am I good at, anyway? So there is a bit of desperate clinging going on here :)

  4. Humans have more than one tribe, when ever they can get away with it.
The internet allows me to continue my tribal ties to my friends in nevada, and to be in a 'tribe' of preppers, and a tribe of homeschoolers, etc.
This multi-tribe approach allows us to supplement the lizard brains instincts with the appropriate tribal views that supports our survival - and at least since the advent of books people have had this ability, which is why the printing press was the real birth of enlightenment - one could now belong to a tribe of ideas that were radically different from those physically surrounding oneself.

    1. I don't disagree with the book part, but why would we crave extra tribes? Seems, well, not very tribal.
