cop tribe 1 of 2

COP TRIBE

I hope you fear the police.  And I’ll explain why.  But first, a little background.  My father was a cop most of his twenty years to a pension ( he started out in youth corrections ).  My best friend growing up had a father in the Sheriff’s department ( he was also a junior pig [ Explorer ] and then became a cop ).  And of course I was an MP in the Army.  I didn’t have an aptitude for it, being far too analytical and not reactive enough, but they didn’t test for that and I had to figure it out on my own.  I might not have been a “real” cop, but I know the culture enough to comment on it.  Most likely, had I been a LEO outside the military, I would be TOO close to the culture to judge it without prejudice, so there is that.

*

Most cops are not bad people.  Most are professionals ( you only ever really hear about the bad ones, don’t you? ).  Most joined the job to help people.  But just as the Catholics started out really good and then became politically corrupted, the police can start out with the best intentions and then bend under the institutions demands.  And when that institution was decent, this wasn’t an issue.  The fact that it isn’t today is more a reflection on our society than it is about the character of law enforcement.  Plus, the police are a tribe.  They used to be a national tribe but now are splintered.  These two fundamentals are why police are now feared rather than revered.

*

I’m not concerned with their appointed power.  Everybody understands power dynamics, since you had and are parents, were married, have a boss and etcetera.  You understand that in ANY relationship, those with power can use it arbitrarily.  A cop can easily screw with you or make your life difficult.  So can your boss or the wife or even your child.  The only difference between cops back in the day and now is that society wasn’t as dysfunctional.  Cops still had the potential to abuse their power but didn’t have to.  Today, it a lot of situations they must, if only to continue to keep the peace.

*

A lot has been made of the abuse of police power to advance themselves economically ( asset forfeiture laws, primarily, the continued abuse with the War On Drugs ), but this ignores that everybody is pretty much doing the same thing.  To include the central bank and its minions nearly controlling the entire federal government ( too esoteric for you?  How about the private corporation that got the local government to seize private citizens land so they could build a factory on their spot of choice? ) to keep making obscene profits.  Where do you think the interest payments on the national debt go?

*

The Detroit auto makers not only get bailouts ( don’t act so noble your favorite, Ford, didn’t get one.  They applied the first time, didn’t get one, then made themselves out to be hero’s when they didn’t take one while GMC and Italiano Chrysler did.  They are just as big of weasels ), they double the price on cars mostly made by robots or Mexican Nationals, while devolving quality exponentially.  They aren’t stealing and manipulating, also?  Everyone is so busy screwing everyone else ( when was the last time you got a raise, even after you’d doubled your productivity.  Again ) and it isn’t even barely registered anymore by anyone.  Unless it is the cops.

*

Who in a lot of cases don’t even steal extra money but rather get the extra, then see their budget decreased the same amount.  The city or county are the ones taking advantage economically of asset forfeiture.  The money they save goes to the retired politicians and similar boondoggles.  Now, please note that I’m not making excuses here.  Police abuse their power, and they screw over citizens economically.  Granted, they do and are.  All I’m trying to point out is that society as a whole, everyone in ANY position of power, is doing the exact same thing.

*

You may feel more betrayed by the police abusing their position, as you expect more from them, but in a world were you are not allowed to feed yourself on your own land, or in some cases drink the water that fell from the sky, everyone has little choice but to rely on the almighty dollar.  The police cannot do as they do out of charity.  They are faced with money conundrums just like the rest of us.  They are also just as human as the rest of us and fall prey to greed and hate and the desire for vengeance, or the allure of sloth.  In a world surrounded by all institutions surviving off of theft, how long do the police stand by the old ideals?

*

But of course, that is only a superficial change.  Obviously, when society goes from stable to declining, you are going to see the police culture change from that of a peace keeping organization to that of law enforcement.  When you keep the peace, the laws are by necessity few and understood and agreed upon by most.  The laws reflect the cultural norm.  When society starts looting itself, all against all as the pie shrinks, those in power hijack the law to benefit themselves.  I don’t mean that the elite haven’t always controlled the law as a profit center.  I mean, duh, right?  Of course they wrote the laws enriching themselves.

*

The difference in a collapse is that once the profits start shrinking, the elite rewrite the laws to now take away more from the people.  The Great Depression was a good example.  It wasn’t a systemic collapse, just an economic one, but it still illustrates a point.  By “Going Socialist”, the private companies were spared a lot of expense of supporting workers.  Not that they ever did, treating workers as disposable cogs, but due to social unrest, either they or the government was going to need to actually pay a living wage.

*

The fact that the taxpayers themselves got to pick up the tab for their own needs tells you how much any private company gives a hoot.  Of course, it eventually bit Germany in the ass, restricting executive pay with equitable wages and giving Unions say on the boards of directors ( the bankers showed them, by flooding the country with low wage welfare class Muslims ), but for many generations their economy remained stable because the corporations were NOT allowed to run roughshod over workers.  Here in the Land Of The Free, it is de rigeur.

*

By focusing on laws by the elite rather than laws based on cultural consensus, all assets previously shared with the workers is now forcibly taken back.  As this process continues, everything goes from the intent of the law to the letter of the law.  There is a huge difference between the two.  One demands justice and the other demands manipulation at will ( “what is the definition of ‘is’?” ).  The police no longer enforce peace, the intent of the law, but enforce the letter of the law which has been manipulated past social control then to asset stripping now.  The police have little to do with this, as the government controls the police and the elite control the government.

*

I’ll continue tomorrow, exploring the culture dynamic within the police and how it has changed.

  1. Yes, many join police with noble intent, but sooner or later adapt into that sheepdog, us-vs-them culture. Many large/urban departments have become out of necessity and self preservation an occupation force for government and business interests. With the good pay and benefits officer friendly can cloister himself and family in gated communities/neighborhoods with "good schools". This is a detachment from real people and real problems. They'll hold their nose and do the dirty duty to get to retirement as it beats a normal job in a collapsing society. Since you don't know what kind of l.e.o. you may get in your face, minions should avoid contacts and interactions. An l.e.o. with advanced homeland security training and mental programing/brainwashing could direct his laser beam of snooping around at you and find or make up something to jam you up on. Stay low to the ground folks.

    1. Not just LEO's, but the entire 9% stay out of the reality of decline in gated communities and extra funded schools. What decline?

    1. How many of us actually live in a private free market? Most folks are two and three degrees removed, but still beholden to stolen govt money. If you can hate them all, I actually applaud your dedication. That would make me look like a piker in my hatred.

    2. I've never had any use for bluethugs but once, largely because of my lifestyle, and that one time was a failure which showed me their value, none.

Now a days you put your life in danger by having anything to do with them.

I didn't used to be this way, back in real-life USA. I bought a car from a cop in 1971, couple of my schoolmates became cops, got along fine with them.

Another schoolmate became the county sheriff in our county, Lee County, FL (Fort Myers, Cape Coral) and was a real good guy. He got out about 15 years ago because he couldn't stand how the system was changing.

There are no more friendly neighborhood beat cops, they all turned into beat-down thugs. Their primary purpose now is to reign terror amongst the citizenry and extract as much coin for the king as possible.

Nothing more than highwaymen of oldt, and deserving of the same punishment for their moral failure and gross ineptitude. No one forced them to be lying assed criminal dikhedz, they willingly chose it. I wish a painful death to all of them.

    3. Can we really say they serve NO value? They do keep some folks honest and some crime from happening. Not saying I disagree with you about them being the kings men, otherwise.

  3. Hard to hate them all, when you know them personally tho.
I was the VP and range officer in our local Archery club, up until my accident and there are several city police and a couple sheriff's deputy's in the club too. It does pay dividends to know a few. In fact one of them in vice turned me on to a shit pile of .45 ACP HYDRO SHOCK rounds which he supposedly shot up on the range...
Growing up a cop lived next door and one across the street too. Not only that the police chief lived about four houses down. I was surrounded by cops growing up !!
Of course now days cops are much different, than they were in the old home town and a whole lot more of them percapita.
Hell, I have a perfect record and zero citations...yet I still very much fear the POlice...
For a long time I wouldn't get a concealed permit, just because if a cop stops you it comes up that you have one.

  4. Jim, your right again! Keep arms length distance. If a minion is in a podunck town,(no offense- ole tyme friendly term) and you know "Bufford the deputy" good on you. If it is not such, you have no friends=act accordingly. The jails and prisons are full of folks that got screwed up the "keister" (up the arse, for the rest of you minions)
by johnny law. The innocence project would not be getting folks released on solid DNA evidence if it were not so. Do you think? Stay really low to the ground.......

    1. I'd love to be in a Podunk town. The term denotes a desired state, to me.

    2. You are in a podunk town Jim. One that is chock full of transient labor tho. Tirty years ago Elko was nothing more than a truck stop at a crossroads.
Prone to boom and bust on mining, which you well know. All them transient mine workers don't prepare for more than the next Saturday night either.

    4. I grew up near there, what ? Like a hundred fifty miles north on the highway leads to my hometown.
I've had to pass through Elko for the last forty years to visit the kin folk scattered all very southern Idaho.
I keep thinking of a road trip to go get my Jeep one day...maybe I'll stop by ?
