I am spartacus

I AM SPARTACUS
Yeah, you sure are ( for those crawling out from under a rock, some ancient film called “Spartacus” staring ancient dudes-if you cannot detect my sarcasm, this was before my time. I have rarely met a film prior to “Lawrence Of Arabia” I enjoyed, “Bridge Over The River Kwai” being an exception. Just not of my culture, sorry-which I never saw had the famous scene I thought everyone had seen clips of, where everyone is claiming to be the slave revolt leader to deflect blame ). You stay your silly ass in the city, you will soon enough be a slave.
*
Now, don't misunderstand me. Slavery will be widespread after the apocalypse, and you could end up a slave for any number of reasons. But if you are in the worst place, with the highest need of slaves as our Petroleum Slaves all die off, you will be enslaved quicker than most. It isn't bad enough you shouldn't live in the big cities because they have been turned over to a OtherColor tribe? You need ANOTHER reason to fear the urban areas? There it is. How deliciously ironic do you think it will be to our Oh-Pressed disadvantaged youth to become hunting groups to round up crackers for the auction?
*
Now, I will be all too pleased to cheer them on, laughing my ass off, as the Blue Forces more pale, privileged members are themselves rounded up, after they thought they had won the culture wars for Stalin, but besides that moment of levity, I don't think we take this danger seriously enough. Part of the Resource Wars is depopulation and Race War, and even if you feel all inclusive and want to embrace diversity, minority groups certainly do NOT care for your casper looking ass. They want to kill you. Nothing personal. But you are in THEIR hood.
*
The one they worked hard in conquering and occupying. Do you Honest Injun think that Detroit, Baltimore, Atlanta and the like are American cities anymore? Sure, they fly the flag and a couple of residents are left that still speak English ( is Ebonics a branch of English, or a separate language? ), and US police do have a few Green Zones set up there, but they are enemy occupied territory. Racially, if not also politically. When the real economic collapse is followed by the energy implosion ( at least in the US, as the imports cease and most fracking goes unfunded, being a money loser even at $100 a barrel ), a white face is a guaranteed target.
*
I'm not claiming there aren't legitimate grievances, even though as we view it nobody now has owned any slaves, and no one forced Latino's to meander up here, but from their point of view as long as being a victim pays there will be more of that. What I'm saying is that however much of a racist YOU are not, those OtherColors ARE, and they will kill you quicker than snot on a broom handle if given the opportunity. So stop “proving” you aren't racist and move the hell in with your own kind. Even the Blacks want segregation now.
*
Tribe Up or get screwed up. At least on the macro level ( yes, I understand it is problematic on the street level, for prepping ). Now, since we have settled that staying in the cities is dangerous now, and more so later, because of the race issue, add a few more groups who hate you. The local government will NOT be pleased that you have failed to keep them in the style they are accustomed to. They will take it personally.
*
How DARE you not work and give them all your money in taxes. That cop worked hard, going to college on the GI Bill and then sitting in a squad car driving around. Then writing reports! Why, these dastardly deeds ( done dirt cheap ) demand a pension! ( I'm being harsh, unduly. We are ALL going to lose our pensions, and we will ALL feel butt hurt about it ). But the cops can DO something about it, and will. They will become bounty hunters. If you live in an area that barely sees a surge of four deputy sheriffs during a crime spree, you'll be a lot safer than if you live in a city where thousands are employed. One cop, you can grease his palm. Twenty of them? They are here to capture and sell you.
*
This isn't going to be a repeat of the Mexican drug cartels. There might be kidnappings, for those with some wealth left. But as far as well funded criminal groups, no. The oil is running out, and so has money. Just as in times of yore, slavery will be THE money maker with captured people. They are free energy barter items. Don't think civility survives past other peoples loss of comfort. Gang members will be after you. The government paid guns for hire will be after you.
*
Granted, raiding parties WILL visit the country for rural folks. Crack Heads will be after you there, also ( another article will discuss how dangerous it is for both locations, but the short of it is that the city is only as safe as your ability to pay taxes to the authorities or to the reigning criminal gang. And we are entering a period where everyone loses their wealth. So how safe are you without paid protectors? ). But here we must deal with raw numbers.
*
With far less people around there are less hands holding guns aimed at you. It is as simple as that. The more folks per square mile, the more foot troops oppose you. Not to say city troops don't invade the countryside. If you are a farmer, within range of the city, you are hosed. The only safe space ( much safer, anyway ) to farm is up in the hills. But troops invading are not on their home turf. If you are in the city ( which most likely includes suburbs ), you are on THEIR turf. Where would you rather be?
*
If you view the War Of Northern Aggression as a war to free the slaves, you think of slavery as a one-off form of barbarism, like OH-pressing bitches. But the harsh truth is that Whites in both the South and the North didn't much care for Blacks. Certainly not enough to risk dying for them. Lincoln was even in favor of shipping them back to Africa, until one of his sponsors reminded him that the factory owners wouldn't make any profit off of that. And, just to be clear, women got both protection and support on the backs of their wombs. They were about as oppressed as my nut sack.
*
What Blacks were was energy for the South and an impediment to the wealth pump in the north. But until coal came along, there was ALWAYS slavery. Coal freed Blacks, not northerners. But as soon as that coal is gone again ( we are already running out of oil-coal is a more open question, being ill studied ), you can bet the farm slavery returns. And the first idiots enslaved are those living right where they will be needed. Plan accordingly. Or don't. Enjoy your Starbucks, slave.

  1. Yesterday, the Z Man Blog talked about how we are being punished right now. And your advice to stick with your tribe is what the Z Man promotes through small communities going dark, quietly working to build dissident resistant groups. I think it works as a wake up call and if community organizing was good enough for the Left it is good enough for us.

Schlicter yesterday wrote about the Mexican Cartels, which is why I am looking to live close to Canada, nowhere near them.

Random thought, Jim: The Left won't tolerate our attempts at community organizing as they know it to be effective. When they resume full dominance of the federal government, I would expect them to try to freeze to death all northern state residents, as they surely know who lives there, and they will do it by banning any cutting of timber; and The Bison Prepper was ahead of the curve on that one by being a sagebrush fuel guy! Could be wrong, but the young punk PhD at Berkeley tweeted that red states should all be killed by starvation. He later gave a perfunctory apology only because his time has not yet come.

    1. The Blues are opening calling for White genocide. It is no secret. They don't even "code talk" but come right out and say it. They don't have to specify the method of attack-just assume it is ALL used.

    2. You don't want to move too far towards the Canadian border. The Grand Solar Minimum weather changes will cause enough problems with unsustainable population densities compared to the amount of food the area will produce. Bans on firewood burning would likely be mostly irrelevant.

Some friends of mine surprised me that they just bought a house in north Idaho and are moving this week. They are fleeing there as political refugees. I asked them about the setup of their place. It was so sad to see them so excited, yet their place as described will only get them killed during the economic meltdown and Grand Solar Minimum changes. I had given them unsolicited advice on the topic earlier that they seemed receptive to, but they didn't follow any of it. I didn't have the heart to tell them after they surprised me since everything was already locked into contract. You probably wouldn't make the glaring mistakes they did, but I still think it's too risky of a move.

    3. Well, this pisses me off. I did an article on a book I read that covered something like seven centuries of English wheat production, as both an economic and as a weather predictor. There were definite cycles, and they relied heavily on solar. I'm trying to look for it, as I think I need to reread my article and possibly the book. It is probably a lot more relevant now then when I wrote it, with the current Ice Age scare/worry.

    4. Here's a soft-sell article from today talking about potato shortages. Don't worry though, potatoes will just be sourced from other areas with a good crop! Even though these crop loss numbers are probably false, they clear their consciences with articles like these, thinking the commoners have no excuse for not being ready for food shortages since they "warned us".

    5. Did McDonald's pay for this article so they could jack up the prices, again? With their "$1 any size soft drink", I can't imagine anything but fries are a large profit center. I'm sure they are near bankruptcy since their business has to be falling off. How many of the 38% unemployed can buy a $5 Big Mac?

  2. So true, so true. There is already Yuge! amounts of slavery and snatchings going on now in gravy times of limited pressures. The human trafficking is a close second to narcotics smuggling in profit and risk equations. That being just those simple refugees and economic migrant types. The secondary market of sex trade commodities of all ages and specifications of flesh specimens is a rampant underworld operation with many levels of profiteering.

Jim is correct to advise to make yourself scarce and hide out. Being a so called tough nut to crack 3% percenter beard boy operator will barely postpone the "inevitable" rounding ups. Seiges, drone strikes, starving or smoking out, etc is easy tactics. Best to align up with the new power authorities and prove yourself useful in the new economies. A career change to wearing the arm band badge as an oveseer thug in charge of the working party/slave labor work gangs would at least be better grade than one of them new kulaks.

I've never seen a coal powered grub hoe, cotton stripper (picker) or plow driver. Never saw an old coal (or kerosene) powered scrub woman, clothes ironer or cook either.
C'mon Jim, you're pushing on a string! But hey, whadda I know? I mean, we humans have only been smelting and working bronze and iron for....5000 & 3500 years respectively.
All that forging charcoal must count for sumptin', right?
Why didn't charcoal & metallurgy emancipate slaves?

I'll venture a guess and say you ate a late meal of spicy food and dozed off in the barcalounger watching Planet of the Apes (on VHS?). The combo of indigestion and Ape World gave you nightmares which you have put pen to paper herein. Lol!

As for crack/meth head threat after the lights go out, you're too pessimistic. Those parasites might be around for 2, maybe 3 months post apocalypse. After that "Defensive Social Hygiene Protocals" will be implemented. Lather, rinse, repeat. Squeaky clean & a Pepsodent smile.

    1. Charcoal needs trees, and trees are in no way even close to the amount of coal. Now, granted, there was coal mining in China a long ass time ago, and everyone is still arguing why that didn't usher in an earlier Industrial Revolution. I won't hazard a guess. Slaves can damage machines, and these machines were worth way more than a how or other primitive tool. Slaves and expensive banker investments don't mix. Get rid of uncooperative slaves, and replace with willing debt slaves that only eat if they work, and they don't have farms anymore because machines are farming ( or, food from overseas colonies ) so they can't feed themselves. Slaves were freed to protect the factory investments, and to control farms. Rich humpers NEVER help anyone out of the goodness of their hearts. But please, don't let me crap on anyone's hero worship of Abe. Feel good feelings are worth more than facts or reality.

    2. Hoe, not how. Move along, no misspellings to see here.

    3. Outside of Haiti, slave uprisings were few, far between and pretty impotent.

I would counter that white factory workers were far more dangerous to factory owners and bankers. All the way back to start of Industrial Revolution.
Sabot (French peasants' wooden shoes) is possible root of word "sabotage". They threw their shoes into machine gearings to destroy the labor "saving" devices.
The Luddites attacked mills and other "industries" that destroyed economic viability of homecrafts like weaving and spinning (aka "homespun"). Illiterate slaves are no threat compared to literate workers, especially if same race.

Abolition of slavery didn't usher in mechanized agriculture. McCormick and his reaper operated on wheat...not exactly a big crop in slave states. Tractors made their debut in the prairie soils of the Midwest of early 1900s, not on cotton/sugar ground of 1860s. First mechanized cotton pickers not until '40s (and not very good).
Seems like 1863 abolition is a wee bit early for your theory.

Emancipation was an outgrowth of the Enlightenment & Great Awakening of mid-1700s not the Industrial Revolution.
      No Abe worship here.

Trees (charcoal) are renewable. Old folks long, long ago maintained groves for pollarding & coppicing. I would argue it was far easier to cut a tree and make charcoal than to dig underground for a seam of coal...besides, trees grew pretty much everywhere while coal is very site specific. Charcoal making by its nature leads to greater and earlier diffusion of the technology. Might not have same BTUs but accessibility matters (alot).

Sorry, Lord Bison but your coal/slavery metaphor is too far out on a branch. They were incidental to one another in time, not causation.

    4. Anon()() - I'm all for turning off meth heads.

I knew a guy who lived up in the Santa Cruz mountains who had a "live and let live" attitude with regards to meth heads, which are abundant there. "Everyone deserves a chance" and all that happy horseshit.

The result was the "Bear Fire" (we name our fires out here) which you can look up, the KSBW sites seems to have a good write-up. That was just BAU for meth heads.

Scumbags and drugs just go together, whether it's meth/ice, khat, the really nasty strains of marijuana that the assassins or "hashishins" used, opiates, etc.

    5. Anon()()- after an initial start with the sabotage, our overlords figured out ways to pacify and control workers. Women and child labor, perhaps? Not something I've looked into, but the results speak for themselves. Again, and yet again, NET energy!!! NET. The amount of BTU's in a seam of coal tremendously out compete the puny amount from trees. And, coppicing is cottage industry. NOT industrial energy. You are making the same mistake Mao did. "The Enlightenment" BS is just another way to pretend that the bankers and government actually love us. Because, you know, now they know better. Come on! You actually believe that horse crap? Please, I'm begging you, scale back your happy optimism and embrace, just a tiny bit, cynicism and paranoia. It will keep you alive a lot longer.

      Delete
    6. Well... somehow Bronze Age Middle East and Mediterranean cultures mangaged to create fantastic art, trade, politics, warfare and that thing we call CIVILIZATION on what you dismiss as "cottage industry".
Think of it, think hard... Assyria Empire, Babylonian, Minoan, Cretan, Egyptian, Phoenician. Lasted for about 1500 years.

Age of European Discovery starting in mid 1400s accomplished a heck of a lot from "cottage industry". Science blossomed, trade expanded, literacy exploded. Civil society began to emerge from under last vestiges of feudalism.

As for Mao....he was a malignancy. His '50s Great Leap Forward had much to do with avoididing Lenin's & Stalin's political errors.
Mao didn't order back yard pig iron foundries to increase economic production. He did it as a Party ideology tactic. The economic viability be damned. Young Party cadres had successfully overturned centuries old agricultural landholdings and village life in '40s right after Revolution and were itching to go further. They were unsatisfied. Mao NEEDED to give those young, restless "true believers" a task before they turned on him. So Central Committee dreamt up idea of "industrializing" the village.
Think of a parallel event of WPA and CCC in '30s America. Keep potential trouble makers busy. Oldest trick in politics.
Rename the Great Leap Forward..."Midnight Basketball for Maoists"

Same thing in '60s Cultural Revolution. It was a political act. Mao gained nothing tangible from burning ancient texts or sending professors to labor as peasants. He just mollified the crazies until they started to reach middle age and he died.
We are seeing similar in Democrat Party here. Pelosi, Hoyer et al being pushed into impeachment craziness by AOC and her "Gang".

And yes, many political movements and social changes erupt from purely religous and ethical concerns.
For about 150 years most of Japan went almost completely vegetarian (even excluding fish) for long periods. They didn't give up seafood because boats became too expensive. They went vegetarian because an austere form of Buddhism came over from China and captured the minds of the ruling class and changed Court ethos.

Theres no "B.S." as regards sanctity of humans and primacy of liberty. The Enlightenment buttressed the philosophical justification of slave abolition, just as religion provided the moral bedrock.

    7. All those ancient civilizations crashed from resource contraction. They burned up all the trees, and depleted all the soil trading food for metal after the trees were gone ( Egypt being the exception as it got its renewed soil from Sudan ). I was comparing the low energy of charcoal to coal, NOT discounting all low energy civilizations. Politics are important, but they fine tune a system ultimately controlled by energy and resource availability.

  5. You mentioned coal which triggered me on a thought train I thought I would bring you all along too.
    -
Mentioning running out of oil, people who are equally invested in their 'rationality' with figures as their investment in loving the oil (AKA math and science nerds), will often claim that there must be plenty of Natural Gas and Coal to fall back on after the oil becomes too scarce. They are not WRONG --- exactly. We are guaranteed to start using more Natural Gas and Coal as the Oil gets more scarce BUT Coal and Nat Gas follow similar peak curves as Oil - To whit COAL is now near or just past peak.: https://www.resilience.org/stories/2018-08-22/peak-coal-is-getting-closer-latest-figures-show/

And notice how Natural gas was being pushed a lot more back in 2010 -2015? the push is dying away. And it looks like peak natural gas too may be around the corner https://oilprice.com/Energy/Natural-Gas/Could-We-See-A-Peak-In-Natural-Gas-Production-Soon.html a peak between 2020 and 2040 there.
And of course Peak nuclear - Peak Uranium
    https://www.iaea.org/newscenter/news/uram-2018-ebb-and-flow-the-economics-of-uranium-mining
The volatility indicates PRE- 2020 - 2040 peak there too.

Peak population (sans a massive die off event) is slated for 2080 according to UN reports.
    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/06/18/world-population-could-peak-2100-united-nations-report-finds/1490136001/

Unfortunately WELL after the peak in global energy supplies.

This means that there WILL be more people wanting MORE stuff with LESS ENERGY available to provide that stuff. So of course slavery will come back. It is already here. The authorities are FORCING prisoners to 'work of their debt to society (the state)' this has been the trial run with only the people convicted of being a bad guy. But eventually everyone will be able to marked as a 'bad guy' and thus enslaved. Student Loans, Home Mortgages, etc. All backed by the government. Failure to pay is becoming a crime. So soon everyone will be a criminal.... And thus a slave in all but name.
