ONE ARM VOTING BANDIT 2
Before we move on to
physical infrastructure and idiot immigrants, a short word on the
profitability of denial. People, acting retarded, make themselves
feel better. Why else is that behavior so prevalent, right? You
can't blame it on public schools. I was an idiot, and learned
through a few tough love knocks to the head. Then, I could study on
my own whatever school COULD have taught me. You could blame
breeding, but not so much. For a time, the jobs required more brain
than brawn, and parents bred for intelligence. No longer was the
need for farm implements or factory hands.
*
Now females choose
breeding on available funds for divorce, so you get neither brawn nor
brains ( but at least they aren't a car ownership generation, so
there is that! ). But denial is instinctive, as it is practiced by
all. Oh, no worries, Fracking oil will save us all. Oh, no worries,
that old rich guy in bed with the Rothschild's will indeed Make
'Murica Great Again. Wow! Me, worry? Nah, only rich dude greed
makes resources disappear. We'll just vote Socialism in to have
another American Century.
*
( Notice how the Reich
didn't last a thousand years, and the American Century didn't come
close to a hundred? ) All of this denial? It fuels the votes for
the Free Crap Army. And I mean both “conservative capitalists”
and “communists”. Everyone wants free crap. Libertardians want
free crap. I didn't notice any of them moving to Switzerland where
they have to pay full free market prices for gasoline. Actually,
Harry Brown did, but he was one of the smarter Freedom Movement
practitioners ( not to get into a discussion on expatriation, mind
you ).
*
When anyone votes for a
new bond to replace the sewage plant, because “it is for the
children”, do any of them add this bond payment with all the rest
that were already being paid on, to get a grand total of more
payments than the amount of taxes taken in? Probably not. When they
bought a motor couch because they “are free to move about the
country”, did they study any geopolitics to wonder if oil foreign
oil supply would outlast the vehicle payments? One seriously doubts
it. Does one ever question if there will be a job for them in thirty
years as they are still making mortgage payments? No. Denial
“pays”.
*
If “all is well,
nothing to see here, move along” is the standard mentality, the
math actually does work out on the Malthus Quiz ( yes, I understand
at the last Malthus Crisis in the 70's, when there was actually
resource contraction famine [ now, that is disguised as war, since
the folks on the ground are better armed on the free market with
Soviet weapons, compared to when the Politburo had to approve the
sale to favored groups ], it wasn't the end of the world. Thank the
Green Revolution, the next great Oil To Food program ).
*
But, back to idiot
immigrants. Let us say Calvin California only rented back in The
Golden State, and doesn't fit into my Yuppie Scum mold. Is my thesis
incorrect? No, because Calvin still wants free crap. He moves way
out in the boonies, to affordable land. A lot of other folks move in
after him. Traffic starts getting crazy. A bond vote is introduced
to widen the road. Care to guess who will vote against it? Nobody.
The people out there need traffic relief. The people in town want
more customers paying sales and road taxes.
*
What if it isn't a
bond, but another “tourist tax” like a fee on hotel rooms? Oh,
my, that is so much better! A decade later, after the room tax is
bigger than the room charge, nobody equates the decrease in tourism
with higher taxes. Instead, the city folks blame the state folks, as
the state gas tax went up to pay for the wear and tear on the road
caused by tourism. Well! The obvious solution is to pass another
bond giving a corporation free land and a decade of tax breaks to get
a factory moved out here to replace lost tourism! What could go
wrong?
*
Or, everyone passes a
tax to fund the airport runway expansion. This will bring in
business! Then, avgas goes up in price, from environmentalism or a
decrease in its supply ( lighter oils increasing, for instance, or
better economies overseas buying it all up ), and the airline
industry collapses. Still have to pay for that runway. Or, some
schmuck moves into town, the very first visit waiting at the railway
tracks to cross. After all, the railroad was the only reason the
town exists. Well! Think of the child! How dangerous this is!
*
Don't you just love the
idiots who like your town for what it is, but then have to “improve
it”? No skin off their noise, it is a few more bucks a month.
Except. A few bucks here, a few there, one embezzling mayor here, a
high interest loan for the rainy day there, and before you know it,
taxes are once again insane. Just from those thousand cuts, the
nickels and dimes. They just voted to build a railroad bypass.
After the road widening, the runway extension, the local artist
putting up pretty foo-foo statues for the tourists who aren't there
any more.
*
No problem, the
interest rates are going down. We'll just refinance all those old
loans that had three and five years left on them, out to twenty years
at a lower interest ( to be clear, I have no actual idea the length
of municipality loans ), and your taxes won't go up! But they never
go down then either, do they? This is how a cow town in the middle
on nowhere gets California taxes. Which usually lead to more
regulations, to increase fees to supplement the taxes. There is
always some bright shiny light at the town hall meetings proposing
“common sense fees” on buying a bicycle or vaccinating dogs or
approving new businesses. And the Denial Dan's, positive nothing bad
ever happens, buy the Rose Colored Glass projections on those models.
*
This seems to have been
the entire economic history of the state of Nevada. Keep innovating
to gain business, then screwing it up somehow. Because there
apparently cannot be any pessimism allowed into the bubble of
happiness that is operated out of Carson City ( the capital, for all
you heathens that don't care about where the Bison International
Publishing Empire is located ). The entire White Man State history
is chock a block full of one dying industry after another, and yet
Business As Usual is still Job One.
*
Mining died from
resource depletion over a century ago, but this time, mining 100%
dependent on oil, another depleting resource, is encouraged and
depended upon. Cattle ranching was destroyed by Mother Nature ( the
blizzard of 1886, 1890-something, 1949 ) and the lobbying by the feed
lot owners to restrict public land grazing. The railroads, needed
for ALL supplies coming out to the Great Basin except Cold and
Drought , supplied the state at a profit, until that industry died at
the feet of trucking companies ( that, plus the railroads were born
and breed off the federal tax teat and losing THAT wasn't in the
business model ).
*
Gambling was profitable
until everyone else started doing it. Brothels brought in tourists
even if gambling wasn't as lucrative, until all the snooty asswipes
from other states, dripping of estrogen conditioning, restricted them
to rural counties that were being filled up with immigrants ( a
county cannot host whorehouses once the population exceeds X amount
). Divorce was profitable until California poisoned the nation with
its No Fault laws.
*
Despite a history
filled with Ghost Towns and Ghost Industries, taxes and spending and
regulations are starting to look like California. All because of
greedy bastard immigrants ( I didn't bring real estate money over,
but I did bring in a business with outside income. I also bought
extra land to keep even more immigrants from arriving. I think I've
paid my dues ). Have I mentioned lately that I hate people?

No. I do not buy you hating people, just stupid ones. Have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteOkay, fine. I'm not a true Grumpy Old Dude ( G.O.D. ). But it is easy to hate peoples behavior, as they act stupid. A lot.
DeleteHey! That could be a T-shirt or bumper sticker. Big letters "I'M A GOD" small letters below ( Grumpy Old Dude )

ReplyDeletethe election for R. Milhouse Nixon
Along with all the big-shots going to work really hard to fix TheCountry©, we were offered the ability to help TheVeterans® through a bond so they can buy houses.
Well, that sounded like a productive use of TheGovernmentAgents™, so, in my youthful exuberance, I gave it a 'yes'. Because poor veterans.
After investigating for a decade, I discovered TheVeteranHousingAdministration grew from a few dozen bumblebrats to many several thousands of bumblebrats, each with benefits and vacations and retirement and other union power-house negotiation goodies. To compensate them for their under-paid over-worked employment conditions.
I never found one veteran get assistance in purchasing a home.
But it looked good in the election brochure.
I have less youthful exuberance these days.

re:
California looto
I visited the looto headquarters in Sacramento.
The one building I saw could house several thousand bumblebrats.
Beautiful architecture, lovely planters, helpful guardians.
And in that lovely atrium entry, I saw several hundred bumblebrats milling in a vague interpretation of 'moving so the cameras think we are doing something important'.
If I operated the looto, I could probably do a great job with a couple dozen cow-orkers.
Or, maybe, I might need several thousands of cow-orkers so my individual ineptitude could be concealed.
That is an excellent post.
DeleteWhile reading it my mind kept substituting the words "government schools", and "students" for Veterans Housing Administration and veterans.
It's a subject of which I know a little bit.
Silly girl, Vet Home Loans are for bankers, not vets. And bungling out of control gov agencies get funded with borrowed money. Seeing a pattern yet? :) No one complains because the fake money is indeed a Trickle Down Economy. Until that implodes and we see how absolutely nothing works after the central bank fails.

I got my current house with a VA loan
DeleteAs did Mohave Rat. Just remembered that.
DeleteVA home loans are like any other "sub-prime" loan, created for people with financial issues but targeted toward vets. Especially onerus in my opinion. When we got a loan back in 2002 the current prime rate was 6.2% and the VA rate was 11.5%, almost twice as much and a sub-prime was 12%. But, that's not the end of it. If you don't carry a prime loan you are also required to have mortgage insurance which is about $100 per month depending on the amount of the loan. Further, your property insurance is higher too. IOW, anything sub-prime, no matter what it is called, is prohibitively expensive no matter which way you look at it. I have never run the numbers but it may very well be to the buyers advantage to continue to rent and work to getting their credit repaired so that in a few years they are able to get the prime loan. Again, as always, the point is to use less than you have, spend less than you make, yadda yadda.
DeleteI have known hundreds of what everyone here would call wealthy and never met even one that was vindictive to the poor. They are ambivalent to the financial where with all of others as far as I can tell. Business is business and people in business, yes even small business, know this. People that are not never will understand it - to them everything is feelings and fairness. Except when it's their own money or property on the line. If a poor fuk has $5 stolen from him he will chase you to the end of the world. If a wealthy dood gets ripped for a grand he'll just write it off and move on. They fly at an altitude you will never see down here on the ground.
Thanks-I didn't realize the penalties and other details on the VA loans. Good to know.
Delete"Frank and Fern" mention Bison Prepper on October 23, 2019:
ReplyDeletehttp://thoughtsfromfrankandfern.blogspot.com/2019/10/without-food-you-are-dead.html
"Everyone needs to read the opening dialogue from Ol' Remus at the Woodpile Report this week. He's right. Food is a Weapon that can, has been and will be used against you. There is a reason Bison Prepper is always writing about food first, wheat, calories, wheat, wheat, wheat. Without food, you are dead. End of story. Not to mention the disease and debilitation that comes from malnutrition and starvation."
Food as a weapon no shit! In the 70s when I was a teen I was undersized and skinny due to not enough food, and the bullies (I was one white kid in a classroom of 30 or so kids) knew that if they could capitalize on this, maybe they could do me in. So one would pick a fight, we'd go to the Principal's office, where the kid (nonwhite) would get told to go before they missed their lunch, while I was kept in and lectured at just long enough to keep me from eating.
DeleteAnd yes, disease and debilitation, if I got a cold it would have me knocked out for 2 weeks, and thank God I never got an injury severe enough to keep me from being able to go out and forage or I'd have starved for whatever length of time I was in bed.
"Food is a weapon" was well-known in WWII.
Kind of makes you glad we stole those sumbitches islands, doesn't it?
DeleteIt's actually more complicated than that. Firstly, over the lone term, it's the Japanese who stole the islands not us, and the Hawaiians, Samoans, etc were merely the hammer, the Japanese ruling class/race the hand wielding said hammer. Yes I learned to hate all brown people with a passion because that was pro-survival, but in reality most Polynesians are rather nice people and the idea of letting anyone go hungry is abhorrent to them, as it is to all "primitive" peoples. The Japanese, however, have a long history of using starvation and "food as a weapon" and in the way the Germans effectively taught the Poles to hate Jews, the Japanese ruling race/class there found it very useful to use the brown people to keep the few white people there in Hawaii (the only other group where at least some of which prize education, making them a threat) down.
DeleteI'm just glad I got the fuck out of there.
Interesting. I never picked up on that, the Jap ruling class. It does make sense. Thanks.
DeleteDead-on Jim; Libertardians want free stuff. I did the Red state thing, it was as I liked to quip, 95% white, 95% Republican, and sadly, 95% on Welfare and food stamps.
ReplyDeleteEspecially if one counts in Social Security and Medicare. Then 95% of Florida, 95% of Arizona, etc. And remember kids, a small percent hike in SS withholding or reduction in benefits balances the SS system. It is the Old Humper Health Welfare that is insanely bankrupt. Death panels, anyone?
DeleteWe already have death panels in the form of the non-wealthy not being able to afford things like insulin, check-ups, care for any but acute conditions. A national health service like they have in England or Canada would be a huge improvement for the US.
DeleteAgreed, on the national health care. The same idiots who scream, I EARNED MY SOCIAL SECURITY, and take Medicare, somehow think socialized medicine is a bad idea. However, I was thinking more on the opium dens that are end term care, and similar disguised Kevorkian adherents, in this particular case.
