...T-shirt 4 of 4

AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS T SHIRT 4
Before I got all distracted with getting pissed about the Internet which was nothing more than another excuse to take all of our jobs, the next economic salvo in the war against White males using their Mammon worship against them ( the current censorship salvo is going to finish them off by killing the Work From Home element that is barely hanging on ), I mentioned that your first step getting rid of your golden handcuffs was to downgrade your shelter.  I know that you all living in Glittery Unicorn Land thinking making more money is the answer didn’t get the memo, but the cost of shelter increases alone are going to undermine your future ( not being able to afford health care will actually help out most people, as the industry as a whole regardless of the noble intentions of some of its practitioners is evil and dangerous ).
*
Own your own land?  How are those property tax increases working out for you?  You are still renting your bought and paid for land, and I’ll bet any one of you a jelly filled donut that the locals will employ the same level of force against you should you not pay-even if you can’t as you become unemployed-as they used to direct against home schoolers, pot smokers or moonshiners.
*
You do NOT hump with the governments money.  You think it is your money, but you are soooo wrong.  The company decided how much you would get paid, in company script, and that is never enough to pay for the company store food, the company doctor or the company house rent.  The Company might be the actual corporation, or the CIA “Company” or the banking controlled whatever, but in the end you are always under company control.  You cannot beat them, you can only work at alleviating the worst of the effects.  Owning far less land and far less house in a far less nice area is the only way to play the shelter game.
*
Again, you THINK having more money insulates you, but the well paid CEO is always one pink slip away from personal bankruptcy, as is the best paid employee.  They control the money, and they control you.  Self employment is certainly a step in the right direction, it adds one layer of insulation between you and asswhoredness, but as long as they control the money they ultimately control you.  By all means, minimize shelter.  Just know in the end it is just a delaying action.  So, you are still working, which means you may still need your car.  If you can find alternate shelter, such as being a roommate with eight other students and only paying $100 a month rent, then you can eliminate an auto.  Minimizing rent is the very first step, the most important one.  You save between 25% and 75% of your wages.
*
If you do just that one thing, you are already winning the game stacked against you.  You make $30k gross a year, and if half that net is for rent, you’ve just “earned” a raise of one quarter to one third of your pay by going full barbarian in your shelter.  Think of the credit cards you can pay off with that.  You’ve doubled your take home pay by getting out of the apartment and living out of your car.  You know I hate cars.  Nothing screws with your income as bad as having a car, but that is AFTER you become rent free.  Prior to that, you probably need a car to escape rent.  But you had better have a friend that can help you with mechanics, and then have a car that is payment free ( or, VERY short term payments ).
*
You could own one clunker van, live in it, have ANOTHER registered and insured van parked in a storage unit ready to go if the first one breaks, and still only be spending not much more than $100 a month total for everything but gas and repairs.  Much better than an $800 a month apartment rental.  Hey, nobody wants to live down by the river in a van, but by doing so you are in a position that very soon you are living on your own land ( probably not next to a river, but perhaps close ) in a cabin.  Without debt.  With almost no living expenses.  Even if you ignore my adage that Auto’s Kill, Even While Parked, cracking the slumlords control over you will get you 80% closer to freedom.
*
Then, because you are feeling all pumped because you got away from the plantation, then think about trying to live without a car.  Now you are 90% closer to freedom.  You might stay about at that level, still reliant on Monsanto/Bayer to feed you, but that is what all your storage wheat is for.  To at least give yourself a cushion from when the global petroleum ag system crashes ( and, I for one will find it amusing to survive off of the grain they practically gave away to me, as a byproduct of the corporate culture of insisting on the cheapest possible inputs necessary.  Practically free is good.  I would have even more years of food stored if it wasn’t for the high cost of storage for it ).
*
Freeing yourself from the dependence on shelter will free up your budget to radically reduce all other expenditures.  I don’t need to get into all the minutia of cutting TV costs and phone costs and food budgets.  That is easy enough.  Everyone covers that.  They don’t tell you how to get out of the big ticket items, though, do they?  And it is the simplest thing in the world, isn’t it?  All you have to do is decide to do it.  Living out of a vehicle, or in a tent on your junk land, or in an overcrowded ghetto apartment full of roaches and roommates ( usually the same thing ), to free up the money to pay off debt and invest in off grid living, that short term sacrifice will free up the rest of your life.

  1. Downsizing is definitely the way to go. After several years of four season living in a tent, I would advise scraping enough cash to build a small cabin instead.
You should be able to build a 10x12 cabin for about 400 dollars if you are careful. If you can afford a car, you can afford solid walls.

    1. I wouldn't want to live in a car, or a tent. A cabin is preferable in so many ways. It is just different options for different circumstances.

  2. True dat. Tent camping is ok short term weeks to a month. But it is not at all ideal long term as even hospitable climates have nasty weather to jam you up. Security concerns must be considered. Car or van living is a step up, useful in an urban environment to blend in or have some security. I am in search of cheap r.v. campers to use for a tow and place housing alternative. I think it would be the fastest to encamp in place with, especially in time constraints of during free fall collapse or timing in off season weather. The limiting factor is a no zoning county which may not last much longer. The New Mexico muzzie compound incident will cause state governments or federal authorities to clamp down to protect the children from depression era living standards.

    1. Well, gee, it IS for the children after all. Thank goodness Goddess Herself came along to save all of them or there would be even fewer White babies around. Alzheimer's Annie For Prez 2020, She Saved The Cracker Kids.

  3. Speaking of shelters, I suppose it’s high time that I send my simple shelter options guest article your way. I’ve been hanging on to it for months, occasionally editing it, but never quite feeling satisfied with it. No sooner than I post it will I remember something that I wished that I had added. Oh well, I might have to addend the article at a later date.

  4. Plywood hexayurt is the most effective/cheapest way to cover a piece of ground for a couple years. Upgrade with concrete base/basement, brackets/windows/sealer-adhesive, clusters with breezeways. One person can pre-fab/construct on-site, but with 2 is easy. They are small enough to be a "shed" everywhere.

  5. Energy supplies will be available to 1% while non-productives are "frozen out" (die of cold/malnutrition?).

    1. Oooohhhh! Goody gumdrops. This one looks like it will be most awesome. Much appreciated on the link, yo. I don't often read her as she seems to have either duds or masterpieces, and both are long times coming, but the first two sentences completely hooked me. It was a slow week on good reads online.

    2. Response letter from article author on Universal Basic Income (UBI) at same link:
Summary: PRINTING CURRENCY DOES NOT GENERATE WEALTH. When will people understand this? The Free Shit Army may never, so here is a paper grocery sack of currency worth making wallpaper (if you can get glue) or firestarter (if you can get matches or a lighter).

Unfurtunately, UBI doesn’t really create goods and services, the way energy does.

Also, we have seen that approaches that just look like handouts aren’t very efficient. I expect that is part of the reason the Soviet Union collapsed. There needs to be some motivation to work.
