golden jackass 2 of 2

GOLDEN JACKASS 2
Yesterday we discussed what a wonderful guy Jim Willie is ( as has been pointed out here previously, anyone named James is automatically considered special and above the common Dirt People.  I’m sorry, I don’t make the rules ) and his assertion that the PetroDollar collapse already happened ( after being chipped away at for years ) and our central bank papered that over with derivatives and kicked the can down the road.  It sounds rather convincing to me, if only because you can’t have a severe decline without breaking a few eggs and derivatives have been the bankers Go To move forever.
*
Now we continue on with more of the articles topics.  Actual inflation is at 10%.  Now, we all knew it was higher than actually reported, because while all those Old Humpers out there were thrown a bone and given COLA-cost of living allowance-adjustments on their Social Security, they seem to have all skipped all math classes ever and don’t realize that once the Boomers all started to retire the Ponzi Scheme couldn’t pay for all of their Florida condos and Arizona golf courses.  The official inflation rate is lower on purpose to keep all those greedy grandparents from getting bored and buying scratch off tickets all day long.  Hey, hump you!  I get to miss my kids Christmas so you can play Lotto all morning?
*
And we all know about commodity cheapening.  Just three years ago I’m buying the Heeb hot dogs for under $5 for 16 ounces and now the Goyem have to pay for all those funny hats with $6, nine ounce packs.  Serves us right for being unwilling to buy $1 lips and arseholes from cancerous chicken parts.  Not only package shrink but the terrible quality.  NOL had to go buy a dryer because the apartment laundry room one had been heating up and smelling and threatening to burst into flame ( I took it apart, amongst dreadful confusion and swearing and replaced the heating coil, but it was just worse afterwards.  And that was without extra parts left over! ).
*
Of course, Home Despot had you wait for two weeks for an appliance, because, you know, hump you that’s why, so we went to the only other place in town, Sears.  They are independently owned so they have a chance of surviving the chains bankruptcy.  On a $379 dryer they would have charged another $80 for delivery and around $80 for a three year protection plan.  Those are usually not protection plans per se but rather a product lifespan guess, plus one month.  Your crap always breaks just after the plan expires.  I never get them.  Now I’m wondering if I gave GE too optimistic of a quality control guess.  I won’t start again on shoes, my hobby horse of quality decline ( one You-Tube survival guy recommends “L.A. Police Gear” for $55 boots that last over a year of hard use ).
*
But JUST monetary inflation yearly is around 10%, averaged out over nearly twenty years.  Oops-ee!  That makes me a little more nervous about my cash savings.  Not that I want more silver ( putting too many eggs in one basket ).  And ammunition won’t buy food ( while in the decline ).  I’m seriously thinking about putting more cash savings into wet canned meat.  Anyway, that is all of course pre-fracking oil industry collapse.  You ain’t seen real inflation until our energy supply contracts.  10% will seem dreamy.  I was concerned about the petrodollar collapse since we still import half of our oil from overseas ( Saudi Arabia is already accepting Chinese currency for oil.  She just knows better than to not also take dollars.  Not that her oil will be a factor too much longer ).
*
And that is still going to happen.  It just won’t matter then because ALL trade is boned at that time.  It wasn’t really hyperinflation as much as lack of trade for almost everything that frightened me so.  It seems that few people want our fracking oil.  It is like the Venezuela crap.  Fake oil costly to process or use.  Gold Jackass seems to think that rising prices ( through manipulating the Texas and London prices ) are one way the frackers are being subsidized to stay in business.  It makes sense as they were losing money at $100 a barrel.
*
Then there are soy beans and Chinese trade.  It is reported by GJ that a lot of soybeans are rotting in silos because the Chinese tariff tiff.  They evidently don’t need Big Ag as much as BigAg needs them.  They are getting supplies from elsewhere.  I think there is some indications we were involved in Brazilian politics, as in CIA or such.  And the Brazilian folks in charge down there are not as big of idiots as the LefTards here in this country, believing Russia is behind hacking.  They know who there enemies are, and they don’t drink vodka. So they would naturally be disposed towards Chinese wishes for agriculture commodity trades.
*
Not to mention Africa.  Not only are more African nations now trading in Chinese currency for oil ( while we just send in SpecForces to try to stir up trouble ), there is a lot of ag commodities going from there to China.  This is a lot what hubris looks like, when you take conditions of prosperity from fifty years ago and insist they still apply contrary to all evidence.  We USED to be the global bread basket.  We USED to grow in fertile soil and used home grown oil to do so.  We USED to have surpluses before we filled up the place with Other Colors.
*
And one more Fun Filled Fact while we are in Africa.  Look at the map, the east cost at the Horn.  Right across from Yemen is a little turd of a country, Dijibouti.  GJ reports that China has a good stronghold there, mostly thanks to the Saudi-Yemen War.  And guess what just happened?  There was pirate activity against Saudi Oil.  I can’t imagine who was behind that.  Now, go up a bit and what do you see?  The Suez Canal.  Are you getting a strategic picture yet?
*
We have already lost geopolitical control of the globe.  We can’t admit that, ‘cause ‘Murica!  We have already lost economic control, as we no longer have the key currency anymore.  We are in a period after the can has been kicked down the road but before we run out of road.  If any of you are under the assumption that Very Bad Things Economically This Way Come are not already baked into the cake, go buy an extra box of ammo.  You only need one round, but they sell them by the box only.  Get prepared to eat that bullet.

note: wonderful minion suggestion.  For apocalypse reloading, a car battery has near 20 pounds of lead in it.  Out-bid the recycle center or auto shops ( with the core charge/tax ) on Craig's List or however ( I'd camp out at Wally by the auto center with a sign ).  Our tax here is $8, if I recall correctly.  I would have no problems getting as many batteries as I needed at $10, and instead of $2.50 a pound mail order lead it would cost me .50cents a pound.  I'm sure the lead is "weird", and the acid is a danger, so I wouldn't use this for every day reloading, just post-apoc.  Thanks, loyal minion! ( in response to the e-mail newsletter article you all refuse to subscribe to ).

  1. If you are looking for canned meat I can highly recommend the following:

    https://www.werlingandsons.com/

I have a bunch of their hamburger and it tastes just like normal hamburger. I have some that is about 5 years old now so I need to use that up and reorder.

    2. Just remembered, a few months ago I bought a can of cooked ground beef at Wally for about $6-$7 and the can was about 14 oz, and it tasted OK to me. I don't remember the brand name right now (Keystone maybe?). They've been selling it for at least a few years now.

    3. Just looked up Keystone ground beef:

      https://keystonemeats.com/buy-online/canned-ground-beef/keystone-heat-serve-ground-beef-24-cans-14-oz/

You can buy from them at $88 for 24 cans (14.5 oz) plus shipping. Before shipping that works out to about $3.67 a can, or about $4.05 a pound. Not bad considering.

I'll suggest getting a single can at Wally and try it first to see if you like it.

    4. Call it $4.50 a pound. Not bad if you call the raw on sale $2, then $1 for the glass jar, amortize the canner generously at 50cent and it would only be another $1 for steel can vs. glass. Perhaps I should give these people a second thought.

    5. I don't recall seeing them in the grocery canned meat section ( left to right, chili, then tuna ). Am I blind? Hint?

  2. On the battery lead thing, I would rather stick to sawing the terminals and cable connecters off and using them. The acid inside of the battery could be more useful and less dangerous than melting the plates. At least have an industrial respirator in your stock if you plan to try.

    2. Are you thinking of using battery lead to make bullets?

      Don't.

      Delete
    3. You can not get the acid out of the lead. It will corrode anything it touches.

If I'm wrong, please cite good sources to refute. I'd love to be wrong on this point.

    4. Lead-acid batteries, like those used in automobiles, often have arsenic in the plate alloy, as well as calcium. When arsenic and calcium come into contact with the hydrogen generated in the normal chemical reaction in the battery they form the ammonia analogues arsine and stibine. These are heavy gases, once used in chemical warfare nearly a century ago. Very small amounts of either of these gases can kill you, so the recycling of car batteries for bullets isn’t worth the risk.

    5. I tried it, its a pain in the butt at best. The time it takes one could take a second job and buy lead.

Not to mention a new pair of jeans because mine got ate. It stinks and its dangerous. I used a full face shield and was still worried about my eyes the whole time.

Trust me, there isnt enough lead in the battery to make it worth your while.

      Delete
    6. Why Car Batteries Are Dangerous

The warnings about smelting automotive batteries to recover the lead they contain needs a bit of explanation. Doing so really does have the potential to harm or even kill you and here is why. Maintenance free/low maintenance batteries use calcium metal-doped lead to catalyze the hydrogen gas generated from water electrolysis back into water. That is what makes the batteries low maintenance or maintenance free, you don't need to add water to the cells as often like in the old days. When the battery lead is melted down there is enough sulfuric acid from residual electrolyte trapped in the lead dioxide and lead framework of the battery plates to react with the small amount of calcium metal in the lead alloy. Normally when sulfuric acid (or water) gets in contact with calcium metal it undergoes a rather vigorous reaction that generates hydrogen gas. In and of itself this is no big deal, hydrogen is a simple non-toxic asphyxiant that is also flammable. But the lead alloy used in batteries also contains a bit of antimony and even arsenic to help harden and strengthen the lead to withstand the vibration and general knocking-about batteries have to withstand in order to survive normal automotive use. When hydrogen comes in contact with arsenic and antimony, or compounds of these two elements, the hydrogen reacts to form ammonia analogues called arsine and stibine, AsH3 and SbH3. Both of these are heavy gases and both have the similar characteristic odors of rotting fish. In World War One the Germans experimented with these, along with phosphine, another rotting-fish-smelling gaseous ammonia analogue with formula PH3, as war gases. As such they were highly effective since they are deadly in amounts too small to easily detect. In even smaller amounts that are too small to immediately kill they cause rather painful lung damage that often eventually leads to emphysema and lung cancer.
So, leave smelting car batteries or using lead smelted from them to professional recyclers. Many folks including myself have successfully smelted batteries and lived to tell about it, but the risk is just too great to mess with the stuff.

  3. Buy a used dryer for about $100. My son's done it twice in the past 15 years, had a friend with a truck deliver it.

Drill a hole in the top of the battery to relief the pressure and throw it in the burn barrel, come back and shake out the lead later after it cools down. What? You're not "allowed" to have a burn barrel? Sounds like you're living in the wrong place.

    "...lips and arseholes..." LOL

    4. There are a couple of issues here even if the battery doesn't have any Calcium in it.
The way I see it, you're dealing with Sulfuric Acid contaminated lead. You may or may not be able to neutralize all of the acid. After being submerged in H2SO4 for most likely a number of years, the acid has migrated into every possible microscopic pore in the metal.
A quick neutralization with Ammonia or Sodium Bicarbonate mght not get all of the acid. I simply wouldn't chance it. The thoughts of melting and casting lead that may have a hidden corrosive component, and what it means to your pot, loaded ammo, and gun aren't very appealing. The acid theoretically boils at 626 degrees F, but gaseous acid could remain trapped in the alloy.
In addition to that, fresh battery plates consist of Lead Peroxide (PbO2) and Sponge Lead (Pb).
Discharged plates consist of mainly Lead Sulphate (PbSO4).
Batteries that you're going to open up will most likely have most of the Sponge Lead converted to Lead Sulphate, as the batteries you have access to are dead by definition (otherwise, they would remain in service!).
You're going to generate large amounts of really hazardous waste to try and get just a little lead.
Do everyone a favor, and trade the battery for either scrap lead or wheel weights.

      Delete
    5. Which seems to translate into whoever is trading you lead is using the poison stuff as batteries will be the #1 available source. Thanks for the save-you convinced me.

    6. Well, glad I didn't try that! I guess lot's of stuff changed for the worse while I sat chained to a drawing table for 40 years. Back in my day the worse that could happen to you was to burn circles in your thumbs holding a jumper wire on it or blow up in your mug if you fucked up and put the terminals on backwards. I seen a guy in the army cross wire a set of 36v batteries for a gammagoat blow up and burnt 3 fingers off his hand cause he was wearing rings. The rings turned white hot instantly and then fingers hit the floor. I took my class ring off and never put it back on and I don't wear a wedding ring neither. I don't do any jewelry, nor does my spouse. No obvious reason to rob us unless you want some new ventilation holes.

  4. “…all those Old Humpers out there…don’t realize that once the Boomers all started to retire the Ponzi Scheme couldn’t pay for all of their Florida condos and Arizona golf courses.”
I understand that you’re using hyperbole here when you speak of “all” Boomers – and I are one at age 63 – because I came to understand this truth almost 30 years ago. My awakening came when I read the book Social Insecurity by Dorcas Hardy, former United States Commissioner of Social Security. He reported on the actuarial analysis done by the commission which came to the conclusion you noted. From that realization came my own efforts to ensure that I would not need to rely on SS for my retirement income. I resolved not to be one of those who were guilty of sticking the bill to the next generations by receiving more than was taken from me (a moot point, since I’ll never get it all back anyway). It also did not save me from having my wages plundered with FICA taxes, nor will it save the younger folks from being plundered as well by the Boomers who did not adequately prepare and who will demand that the youngsters pay for those condos and golf games they feel they deserve. Someone always loses in a Ponzi scheme; it’s just a question of who profits and who gets stiffed. At least my conscience will be clear when I do retire. I won’t be living the lifestyle you described. Rather, I’ll be living in the simple fashion using the techniques you outline in this blog. My donations and Amazon purchase through the blog are my tangible "thank you" for all your efforts on that score (overt, unsolicited, shameless plug to encourage others to do likewise ;-) )
P.S. – The book (https://www.amazon.com/Social-Insecurity-Dorcas-Hardy-Coulburn/dp/B009J47LBY ) is out of print but a summary may be found here: https://www.enotes.com/topics/social-insecurity

I have no problem at all giving up my SS if they give me back ALL that was stolen from me, with interest, and I'm not talking a cheezy assed 3% neither. Notice that ALL is in capitals because I do mean ALL. Income, sales, property, license plates, fishing license. ALL of it. 20% interest, compounded just like it would have been if it had never been stolen in the first place.

I have a four school-aged kid household, so everything naturally gets beat. The fridge we are using is modest, no telescreens or beverage dispenser in the door. I got it as a discard from a time share resort I clean every year.
Despite being a simple fridge, the internal plastic shelving and drawers are falling apart.
We had friends over one night and were sitting at the dinette table. They are a little older than us and have more discretionary income. We opened the fridge for another, beer, and they saw the duct tape holding the door shelves together. They were like, "Holy shit, your fridge too."
Their newish, super tech consumer report vetted fridge was sporting duct tape too.
After my short comment yesterday about F-the-Man-Don't-Play-the-Game, I was all motivated when I got out of bed this morning.
I ground wheat and buckwheat flour for pancakes and let the old lady take it from there.
Got the sun ovens out. One with 2 loaves of pumpkin bread, one with garlic lentils.
One thing I started doing with the sun ovens is as soon as I decide to bake/cook something, I get the oven(s) out to preheat. Then while they are heating, I do the food prep.
Its about noon here and the temp in each is 325 degrees.

I do and that's where I keep that DW.
I do get the gist of your message though.
FWIW a DW is a big 5 sided mostly waterproof box that can be used for lots of things. Lay it on it's back, tear the guts off the bottom, connect a bike to the shaft the motor was connected too, whittle some oak paddles for the inside and you got a manual washing machine.

    7. I must interject. "Why do you own a DW?" Well, why do you own a car? Both are luxuries ( with the caveat you can own a car if the property is paid for, as long as you can get into town with alt transportation ). One is an affordable luxury, the other is usually not ( although, granted, the Insurance Banker Cartel really chaps my ass and I hate insurance companies with a red hot passion which might slightly color my logic ). If we were truly, honest Injun prepping, should a car be allowed? In other words, pot calling the kettle black.

  10. Good stuff Jim. I’m sure it pleases you to generate so many comments on an article. I have a few old car batteries sitting around, but the thought had never occurred to me to try and salvage lead from them; mostly because I know what incredible nasty stuff sulfuric acid is. After reading the process in the Dick’s Encyclopedia on the fulminate of mercury (percussion caps) I’ve come to the conclusion that this is also a process to be avoided unless you had no other choice, and even then, you’d better know what you’re doing.

Here in the PRK, lead has just about been outlawed, or soon will be. I can see a time when all bullets will be made from Bismuth or Tungsten, and cost a fortune.

Luckily for me, I probably have a 100lbs or so of lead sitting around, that my father had molded into wheel weights for his tractors, from the days when lead was easier to obtain. I don’t know the breakdown of it, but it probably has some antimony and tin in it. Some guns, such as cap and ball revolvers use pure lead balls, and I have more than a few of these guns, so I probably need to buy at least some lead.

  11. i recently lost my husband suddenly.
already in a tizzy and i read about golden jackass.
    terrifying.
according to regular reporting, china cannot live without our ag exports. you shot that don.
ag from africa? when we are told they are all at war and starving? i know china has been building up infrastructure in parts of africa for years, so must have plans that parts of africa will become a breadbasket for china.
chinese take a long view, are smart, and are excellent planners.
so yuans are already accepted , as why shouldn't they be?
our hegemony is over and americans don't seem to know it yet.
you mentioned venezuelan oil as 'crap'. is it not good oil? we rtold venezuela is awash in oil and should be a rich country. what is the truth?
i am entirely dependent on very little social security as of this october.
husband's salary gone, house tied to job.
daughter and i and pets must be out in 40 days and are seeking a place to live.
did not plan this way as emergency can overtake anyone at all. emergencies are unforeseen by their nature.
eventually many of us will find ourselves very unexpectedly, in 'reduced circumstances'.
and if james and the g.j. are correct it will be almost a landslide.
you wrote of living as though america is still in the 50 year old prosperity that no longer exists.
that is true, because i remember when almost everyone could get a job, even in west virginia, my home state. people also felt they were one of many united americans. united americans do not seem so numerous as once they were. nothing seems to bind us together and what few bindings there are are being picked at by the vultures.
when i was a kid the old ladies woud sit in the afternoon on the porch and talk about how the country was slipping downward since their own young days.
now we do the same, me and my age confreres [almost 70 years old]. we all agree 'this is not the america i grew up in.'.
    and it isn't.
one thing sticks with me from my high school days. mr. alonzo varney, world history teacher, said, 'you've all heard aboout the fall of the roman empire. i have been to rome. it is still there.'.
this land will still be here, in what condition only God knows, after we are gone.
i hope those who inhabit this land in future are blessed and moral.
james, you have told the truth, which is frightening.
    thank you for the truth.

    1. Never believe any of the lying liars. Oil reserve numbers were lied about forty years ago, and that reporting is far worse today. Venezuela was pumping oil near 100 years ago. What is left is very low net energy crap akin to tar sands or fracking oil. As global industry contracts from The Greatest Depression, demand for oil is down ( no need to manufacture stuff for unemployed people ). Low net energy crud doesn't sell. Not our fracking oil ( we cannot export the stuff ) and not Venezuela's. Folks can pick from higher energy crude, and they don't want the Fake Fuels. If socialism killed Venezuela, Sweden and France would have died long ago. Even the Saudi's are having problems with being stuck with too much lesser quality oil. It would be like you liquifying coal and trying to sell it with your competitor selling high test racing fuel. At the same price. I'm not a religious man, so I can't pray for you, but I wish you all the luck getting through your difficult period.
