food bank ponderings

FOOD BANK PONDERINGS
Okay, forget corn shortages or Chinese economic warfare. Let us assume that the entire worlds national economies are run by the same kind of idiots we have here in the US. I mean, it doesn't take a PhD in history to remember that less than a century ago the island that relied on imports almost starved and that oil was what allowed us to become a global empire. But we threw away those lessons for a short term profit for a very few people, putting the other 330 million at risk. Our leaders are as stupid as Bill Gates and Potty McPothead Musk.
*
We severed all ties with almost anything that smacked on resiliency and instead made everything “efficient”. Now, granted, this was going to happen regardless of the intellectual capacity of our Dear Leaders, in a country unable to function in a growth economy when we had a shrinking energy supply. But we also COULD have chose to downsize many decades ago, and choose NOT to crash after a profit shakedown. Which is like asking a junkie to stop shooting up even as he hangs off deaths door, a male prostitute in a ghetto alley his only means of staying high as the hepatitis battles with HIV for the cause of death.
*
Or, asking all the citizens to vote for Austerity Carter instead of Make America Deficit Spend Again Reagan ( I don't blame the man-he delivered what the voters wanted. Obammy and Trump never did that ). Some things are possible but very improbable. So, we have established that Corona Black Death was a cover for the global economic collapse caused by stupidity. Now we have to ask ourselves how we most likely move forward, as long as the lights stay on. Just look at the last few months. Everyone, and I mean EVVVERRRRY ONNNNNE ( picture the scene in The Professional with Gary Oldman screaming that line ) is being sacrificed to the wood chipper.
*
Here is where I go into an even more fanciful future projection than is my usual. Our Food Bank was just offered a loan to stay in business. We know because NOL was told that for the place to qualify for the loan, she needed to start taking her vacation days ( built up to some insane level like sixty days ). If any employees are owed any money, the loan is held up. I'm sure they will cut her a large check. And we know they needed a loan because the thrift store has been closed the last two plus months. Some employees are paid by federal grant, but most are from the thrift store profits. They burned through all their savings and grants and donations, and no one wants to buy their assets.
*
( They were trying to sell the houses the homeless stayed in, plus a mostly unused warehouse. If they did, they money is already gone. You don't pay these idiots $14 an hour and save much money. The moron that replaced me as food bank manger is costing the company four times what I was paid, and the idiots in charge of her think nothing of it. It wasn't just this food bank either-all I've heard about are bloated and inefficient. This factors in to what I'll be theorizing )
*
The company cannot stop wasting money. The board of directors seem to mostly be someone else's drinking buddy and do NOT seem to be able to run a very tight ship. Any loan they get, they will probably not be able to repay without drastic changes. So, is that the plan? Is this how you nationalize food banks? By indebted them to insolvency? It is a LOAN, not a grant. Do you take over the food banks, kick out the expensive deadwood, and turn it over to a corporation who is then in charge of mass distribution of now government food?
*
Again, I'm just Wild Ass Guessing here. But it would be just like the federal government to take over control, let a favored corporation administer it ( who will cut costs to the point then THEY endanger its performance-but that is okay when a favored, political contribution happy corporation does it. Remember, Food Stamps were gifted to a LOT more people when CitiBank got a percentage of purchases for its debit cards. Is this the future of food welfare? Let the meat shortages and meat exports piss off the public so they support federal intervention, then the distribution going to favored large grocery chains ( remember Wal-Mart favored ObamaCare ) and for those homeless, food bank distribution points.
*
Why not just have them go to the grocery stores? Food banks are terrible with the distribution infrastructure they have. They were basically set up for the homeless and those without Food Stamps, with a bi-monthly Senior food distribution as an afterthought. In 2009, they had a lot more people want their services. The food banks smelled government money, far more even than before, and cashed in. But they can't feed everyone. Just look at those miles long food bank lines of cars backed up ( I still think that was some sort of publicity stunt, but freely admit that might be fanciful as I have nothing suggesting that other than my paranoia ).
*
( But I am guessing that by requiring car pick-up rather than park and walk and line-up, the authorities created a perceived issue for their own ends, as cars lining up look much worse than a block long line of people ) The food banks were far too generous with who qualified. And it almost seems the government must meet that new expectation as unemployment skyrockets. They will subsidize the food banks, and let a corporate buddy run it so they can claim “saving tax dollars”, as they semi-nationalize food distribution ( at the very least, subsidize it ). And somehow, these idiots at the meat plants will profit off of this shortage stunt. “We cannot stay open at our old profit mark-ups, safety for the children!” Tax breaks, moving to a government building without rent, prisoner labor or similar, you get the idea.
*
When it is all about profiting and covering your ass, these kind of dog and pony shows are guaranteed.

  1. I dont normally come here for the poetry, but that line "Which is like asking a junkie to stop shooting up even as he hangs off deaths door, a male prostitute in a ghetto alley his only means of staying high as the hepatitis battles with HIV for the cause of death." Beautiful, in a strange and dark way. Im still kind of heartbroken I dont have anymore Locos Gringos and an Apocalypse..or what was the other one about the two guys trying to get by? Would it be too much to ask for some more fiction? Ps I have purchased some of your ramblings, so dont think Im just trying to get some Free milk

    1. I want to try at fiction again, but I can't guarantee it. It seems as my non-fiction improves, my fiction gets even worse. I think I'm ready this time to go really dark and disturbing. I just need to figure out how to/if I proceed. And no, it isn't too much to ask. Now that I'm back disciplining myself on the time wasted on TV, I have more energy and inclination. We'll see how it goes.

He also amnestied a lot of illegal aliens. Who in return, repaid the favor: By voting democrat :D

In the mean time, here in Commiefornia. Illegals are receiving coronavirus aid, and the homeless in SF, are holed up for free in motels, and being supplied with alcohol and drugs, such as legal weed, and Methadone (true story) all courtesy of the tax payer. And now governor Newsom is stating that he’s going to lay off the first responders (i.e cops and firefighters) if Trump (who will receive all the blame from the communists in the media for the lost jobs, if he doesn’t go along with it) doesn’t bow down to the billions of aid that he’s asking the feds for. For a state that was already in deep doo doo, pre-coronavirus, due to the stupid shit policies outlined above. I’m jealous of those of you that live in red states. Or, well, at least I was, until our short bus riders rode the bus out of town, and into your neighborhoods, only to start all over in your neck of the woods :D (I know it’s not funny. But if I stated what I believe to be the real solution to this madness, I’d probably be exiled from this blog).

    1. No thoughts are forbidden, but I do plead with one to present them in a low key manner. No one gets to say, "Kill all the N-Bombs". That is inciting and rude. How about, "Balkanize into separate nations" instead? See what I mean? Let's show some class here. We all know what needs to be done ( I'm not saying the above example needs to be done, that was just an example of how to avoid scaring the sheep and about not going Full Retard ). We just have to tip toe around it so I don't lose the blog. Because at most 10% of you would actually pay to get this delivered to you through the snail mail ( only 5% of you will subscribe to the e-mail newsletter, which is free and extra writing ). So, I kind of need to keep Google happy.

  3. They have to take over the food distribution before they can ration it Soviet style. I found it curious that WalMart opened so many "neighborhood markets" with a small footprint (similar to Aldis) in very close proximity to their superstores.

If Chinese crap is no longer imported they don't need all that floor space just for food so maybe the FEMA camp theory isn't just a myth! -RB

    2. In the future at food banks will the government require people to provide vaccine certificates to prove they have been properly vaccinated? The evil Bill Gates wants that.

    3. That will probably be tried by some idiot Blue State governor. The riots will be spectacular

    1. They were doing great, serving most of the Food Stamp Brigade. Then Orange Man had to ruin everything by "proving" the economy was doing better by cutting those recipients. Sad Panda, Walton's!

  5. A couple points...

    re:
    airline food

With the airline industry tanked, you might ask 'what do we do with all the warehouses-full of packaged QuickieMart©-reject foods?'.
    Fortunately, Darwin's Law kicks-in.
The quickest to adapt are the winners...

One of my cousins in the mountains east of Sacramento had a learning experience involving a tree and wind, so she is in hospital in Roseville California.
The nearest hotel is Holiday Inn Express -- I immediately re-named it 'sexpress' based on the engaging parking lot atmosphere.
(One vibrant fellow dragging a blanket proudly explained his hospital wrist-band as a result of cellular-telephone emissions causing a gran mal seizure, and who am I to question his judgement.)
I work hard for a lot of hours, so my breakfast runs into the thousands of calories.
Prior to this phase of this economic lock-down, my hotel breakfast was about an hour at the buffet.
My first course is bacon, followed by bacon-topped eggs, some bacon to cleanse the palette, and a platter of bacon with eggs as a garnish.
Dessert is a refreshing bucket of bacon.

During this phase of this economic lock-down, the hotel breakfast is brown-bagged by the mopper/vacuum operator (I am not making this up):
A cellophane-wrapped muffin with a layered simulated cheese-like substance giving the appearance of an Egg McMuffin©,
A cellophane-wrapped muffin with some midget (can we say 'midget' without jeopardizing your blog?) simulated fruit chunks,
    A cellophane-wrapped bagel,
A tiny cup of something labeled 'cream cheese', the ingredients list including soy and other tasty (can we include sarcasm without jeopardizing your blog?) plant-based nourishments.
A few carbs to start my day puts me directly into a coma by 9am.

    *****

I had a second very important point, but I can't seem to keep my eyes open.

  6. Right. My vegas field reports validate much of what Jim writes. We had a food bank give away at a north las vegas city gov't parkng lot. The proles lined up 3 a.m. for free food, already well overweight and trolling around in nice cars and suvs as well. Pathetic humanoids.

The food bank consortium here is also bloated with non profit grifters and always has a schtick with the hand out begging to the already broke and out of work community for more "cash, or recurring monthly donations like spca commercials showing scared puppies tactics, and the endless public relations browbeating of corporations for overstock donations. The news media plays into the hype of how without such programs kids and cripples would starve in the street like untouchables in bombay. It is like a large pyramid scheme structure where many participants either benefit from the gibs and give aways whether deperately poor or just mooches for free stuff like a casino gift give away. As well as all those jobs and titular positions that are attached to that new form of parasite organization that really just leaches resources from society like any other welfare-ish monstrosity. America is either a shake down extortion racket, or a beggar rattling a cup for alms. Either extreme example only exists and all of the middle ground normalcy is being exterminated by beast systems of operation.

    Stay fed and frosty.

    1. While I was at the Food Bank, we did our best to promote Mexican population growth. That was great for federal funds. I'm so proud.

  7. All NGO's are a damn disaster. they are all "run" by women. which means they barely function at all. Every single charity NGO could be run by a team of probably 3 competent men instead of 100 whining women and get a lot more done. Of course this will never happen.

Also, please explain why there are huge lines at food banks NOW. We just started, most people just got laid off and of course they all get $600 a week additional. What is going to happen in a year or two when the economy fails to return to "full growth" (notice the quotes) if we already have this huge "need" now?

also, most of the people in line for food don't look like they are starving any time soon.

    1. Fat people really are starving. McDonalds has zero nutrients, so the body craves more. And Food Banks are usually serving up Shelf Life foods rather than Healthy foods.

  8. "The board of directors seem to mostly be someone else's drinking buddy and do NOT seem to be able to run a very tight ship."

I smiled when I read that since I once worked at a small, family run company that was just like that. One of my co-workers once posted a small sign that read "We run a tight ship around here." in large letters...with small text underneath that read "...and some here get tight far more often than others." Another good one that got posted was "Around here we promote family values." in large text, with a smaller font text below it which read, "...almost a often as we promote family members."

  9. Yeah. A relative was going to the food bank, one who probably didn't need it. They also complained about the food.

    Huh?

I hate to admit that I liked "Evil Alien Conquerors" but I did like it quite a bit. It's on Prime, too.

  10. Good afternoon James. I hope this day finds you well. Even when times were hard for my family, I never sought out help from a food bank. I had a garden and had food storage that was put aside for times of need. Plus our folks made sure we had milk, eggs, cheese and fresh meat. When times became better and the $40K in medical debt was paid off, I replenished our food storage and kept at it. In 2018 after watching crop damage from weather and reading crop loss reports, I started buying veggies in bulk, then dehydrated and vacuum sealed them. Picked up extra canning jars and food grade buckets. I've been lucky enough to find additional sacks of various beans and lentils the last few months along with additional buckets of wheat and corn for grinding. Making our own sourdough starter for bread making. If your readers are able to, I would recommend they locate Community Supported Agriculture in their areas. Check with local Ranchers about eggs, milk and meat. Learn to Butcher if needs be. I am one generation removed from farming and remember gathering eggs at my Grandmother's home. We as Americans will survive this plague of Gov't locusts and the virus. Just remember that Slavers never change and crave the destruction of our self-reliance. Red

  11. On the news they were showing the line of people and cars that were waiting at the food bank. Not a single vehicle was shitter than mine. I could see everyone with their internet phones, I can't afford one. The clothes on most people looked nice, not the rags and thrift store garbage I wear. At least I can feed myself.

  12. I just read today Trump is talking about buying up a butt ton of farmers milk, meat and other products to have the food pantries give out. Sounds like the government is buying them.
