you'all ain't preppers now

YA'ALL AIN'T PREPPERS NOW
I'm sure we've shared that moment, a gleeful You-Tube type proclaiming that “well, everyone is a prepper now!”. Ahhh, no. Sorry. When did panic buying constitute being a prepper? Was that always a thing? Perhaps it was, because I haven't been a prepper for a long time now, being a manly man survivalist ( prepping for short term emergencies, verses planning on surviving End Times ). I guess you were prepping if you panicked after Katrina and had enough for the next hurricane. But even if panic buying makes you a prepper, it won't be enough.
*
The time of buying your way to safety has ended. What is there left to buy? Soon enough, who will have any money to buy all the things no longer for sale? You know, unemployment. Let us take a trip down Nationalizing Lane. The Prez just enacted the 1950 War Procurement Act ( forgive me if I have the name off slightly ). Basically that says that he can tell a company what it has to produce, and they have to listen. It probably also means they can take you from an office job and put you in a factory to work, but forget that now. Here are the immediate effects. That civilian ammunition factory just went to total military production.
*
That freeze dried food company just went to FLEA ( federal law enforcement agencies ) combat ration production. The silver producers just went to National Currency Re-Stabilization Fund production. Somewhere, they might actually be making masks, the whole reason this turd was dusted off ( or so they say ). Now, don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying this will work, that the FedGov will maintain and persevere. I'm just saying if any prepper items get produced, they won't be sold to you.
*
OR, let us consider both shut-downs and transportation. I'm beginning to suspect that the lock-downs have one purpose, and that ain't to protect people from the virus. It is to eliminate ALL small businesses to eliminate competition with the Big Corporations. After all, in an emergency our Dear Leaders always centralize more, even when it is counterproductive. Take as exhibit A the security agencies consolidating after 9/11. Each agency still protected its turf and refused to share, and now you had another layer of bureaucracy screwing things up even more.
*
If all the mom and pop restaurants are out of business, the national chains regain lost market share. Someone has to pay off the robots they installed to beat the $15 minimum wage hikes! All these small banks shutting the lobbies and curtailing loans means the biggest bailed out banks survive as the small fish die. I'm NOT saying this will happen. I'm saying that is the plan, or expectation. My point here is that if it does happen, all the prepping supplies go above your ability to afford it. Because now there is far less competition. And that transportation sector?
*
Let us say none of the above happens. Somehow the products are still manufactured, because now demand is higher than ever ( and, say, our Trump Checks are mailed. I know I'm holding my breath ). How are they getting to the stores or distribution centers? Pretend the National Guard stepped in to load supplies, instead of stealing the food for the government. All those semi trucks that survived the last culling of demand destruction, they are ALL focused on transporting food to markets to avoid food riots. Your silver, or ammo, or Prepping Whatever, it doesn't get shipping priority.
*
I worry, very much, the foods don't get back on the shelves. Perhaps when the Beer Virus REALLY hits hard and people REALLY stay at home, the system has a moment to recover. Perhaps. I just cannot raise my expectations to that level of Happy Thought. I'm not saying it WON'T happen, just that I worry a lot that it will not. Perhaps the War Power Act isn't about masks at all but about food, micromanaging all aspects from fertilizer to farmer loan forgiveness to harvesting to distribution to subsidizing the retail food outlets. I still worry it can't work.
*
How long does cannibalizing work on semi-trucks, from all the last years idled trucks? How soon will the spare parts NOT being shipping from China idle the semi or tractor or combine fleets? But regardless of that, you can bet your last jelly donut consumption items of a non-prioritized nature get shoved to the wayside. Groceries are rationed and nothing is coming through the mail. What can preppers even buy? Nothing. Zero. Zip and squat. The purchasing phase of prepping is pretty much done, aside from a few activities such as buying junk land. Better buy it and move to there before travel is verbotten.
*
A lot of you might have already missed the boat on that one. Sorry you didn't listen sooner. It seems the governors have been given a blank check with no oversight, responding as they see fit. How long before state line roadblocks? I'm actually surprised the police and sheriff reserves haven't been expanded rapidly for much minimalist training duties as that. And of course, right now, the biggest problem with most governors is the vast majority are communists and commie lite RINO's. This surely won't end without bloodshed.
*
I know I keep threatening the article, but for once in my pathetic existence I have a decent size stack of article ideas ( knock on wood! ). I'll get around to covering the states evolving to semi-autonomous regions. A peaceful handing over of power from the feds to the states and the states focusing on civilian suppression. Few of those in power are liberty minded, and I don't forecast a happy ending. But long before that, the system in place suspends your shopping options. Are you ready for this? Have you gone into Conserve And Protect mode? I might cover that tomorrow.

  1. Good morning to Mr. Best Hair,

I was waiting for you. I share your concern about the state governors and their new found power. There are mayors also
issuing decrees. Many of us can imagine varying outcomes
but none of us knows. One sure thing is the shelter in place
and no gatherings rules are ominous.

I know about rationing. I wasn't born in the USA, and the parents worked at everything and anything available to secure
a nest egg to leave the country. To slow down the leaving
there was a 5 yr waiting from application to permission to
go. Family to friend to mandated by gov sharing of apartments was instituted. My grandmother had an apartment
(too big for one) so my parents moved in and Gran took care
    of me.
People were issued ration cards subject to availability of
the food items. The Germans were efficient at such things,
and anyone perceived to be interfering was destroyed/
eliminated. At one point there was NO milk whatsoever.
Babies were given carrot juice instead so we all became orange. This was years after the war ended.

Just a picture for you and readers.

Best wishes and good luck to all.

  3. Yes Jim, there is a free for all ORGY of all sorts of comers that are using a flu virus as a springboard to grasp at political power, corporate largess hand me outs, banker's smorgasboard buffets of endless fed bucks, media-celebrity has-beens attempts at relevance, and all of the little piss ant citizenry just plain acting a fool in public. Unless this nonsense circus is squashed, even by a basic people's protestation monkey wrench gang hi jinks methodology, there will be many ripple second order problems. Those are the ones that even make an old salt Minion say: "oh shit!". Dominoes falling metaphor help anyone's slow or addled brains out there. Just saying. Enjoy your collapse, it was kinda fun anyhow, no? Stay the most frostiest.

  4. Great amazon link Jim. There is great parallel parable level of information regarding instituted rationing by nation states UPON their own citizenry. Normies so think they can shop at will, hello? I digest any or all ww2 or seige areas ration or supplies constriction data, more so than those gear queer notions of what guns the beard boys tourist soldier hessians were toting around. DUH, food first dummies. Recommend as well for Minion study; the british produced @1973 "the world at war" series. Lots of nuts and bolts info applicable, like everywhere and anytime. Also brush off some gypsy trader or black marketeering skill sets, as that is your new normal. Stay frosty.

  5. Jim,
I'm with you on the food not getting back in the stores. I went yesterday to replace some of the items we normally use and I could not find some of them or the others I could find were not the quality or size I would normally select. It dawned on me a few days ago that some of those folks staying home are food production workers...……….. so there's going to be a lag in the food supply later on. As I mentioned in an earlier communication I did some procurement of some vital supplies via Amazon and on one item received a delivery date of a month out but it was listed as being in stock, hmm I thought. I emailed the supplier and they told me that Amazon is 'PRIORITIZING' shipments to their customers was the reason for the lag. I emailed her back and told her that they, Amazon, were 'virtue signaling' and that I was just on the cusp of canceling my Amazon account and that I was sick and tired of the Tech companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft ect. They have not learned one of the first rules of OLD SCHOOL business and that is they should not mix business and politics. Here, in Arkansas, you just about can't find any one who will admit to being a Democrat because I think they believe they will be lynched on the nearest lamppost here in the 'burbs'. Little Rock is lost to the Gib's Me Dat and the LBGT crowd and all the local TV stations regurgitate the usual diversity BS and step all over their dinguses trying to be PC by emulating the mother newtorks progressive agenda. I'm still working so as to sweeten the 'Pot' as much as I can before I go full retirement. I will not miss going into Little Rock or work. Our Governor, I believe, is a RINO and a Federal Agent. He recently told his Federal handlers that, Oh! please sign us up for some more of those wonderful refugees. I've lived here since 1962 and I think I know how the average Arkansan feels and it sure as heck is not wanting more of those third world folks with a fondness for goats. Ok, enough of my rant, stay frosty, inventory that stash and load some more mags.

    1. Nevada had pretty much institutionalized vacuuming in as many Mexican's as possible. Old hat here. At least we are twenty years minimum behind Cali, so the collapse comes before living in a similar craphole.

  6. Great article. Trucks need parts.

How soon can we make them here? I wonder if anyone misses the 40,000 manufacturing plants that shut down in the last 20 years?

    1. Anyone who says we can bring manufacturing back hasn't been paying attention to a lack of infrastructure. If we can get the grocery shelves filled back up-if-we can coast on the declining semi and rail we have on hand, giving us time for work-arounds. If we keep most other consumption at our current All Unemployment levels, mothball the civilian auto fleet, etc. Just prioritizing food. Bets on that happening?
