I know my dearly beloved minions are better than any other niche doomer group for understanding that the end is nigh and the time to panic was yesterday.  Yet, sometimes I question how truly aware we are of how close an economic contraction is, one that will make the Great Depression look rosy ( and only rivaled by the Gott Damn Sum Bitch Yankee occupation and induced famine of the southern colonial subjugated states ).  I blather on about Peak Oil-meh.  I bring up the collapsing PetroDollar-snore.  I mention the cheerily accepted “indefinite detention without charges” and I hear crickets.  Well, how about the Krispy Krème Leading Economic Indicator, hmmm?

*

Unless you were from one of the aforementioned occupied colonies, you would probably never had heard of Krispy Kreme donuts if the corporate asswhore sellouts hadn’t started selling the cold and stale versions in grocery stores ( the whole shtick they were known for was donuts just made-hence far better than Dunkin Dog Nuts.  Putting them next to Little Debby’s Fresh From The Mexican Factory didn’t really make them a true KK donut.  It was like Schwinn bikes selling out their name to a Chinese junk manufacture, a one time brand pimping ).

*

KK began its race to the grave along with Sears, K-Mart and Toyz R Us by going public and expanding rapidly.  At their peak they had about 400 stores, a smidge over 300 in the US domestic market.  Then the stock price tanked after “accounting irregularities” ( that is the polite way of saying they were lying crooks, screwed the stockholders and SOME of that was discovered.  Kind of like all the banks after 2007, but Krispy Kreme didn’t work for a central bank so they were screwed ).  They were bought out, and miraculously, actually recovered after a few years.  The secret?  Overseas expansion.

*

I want you to focus on that last sentence.  We’ll return to that and it will be on the final exam.  After ten years, there are now a smidge UNDER 400 domestic US stores ( probably around a 5-7% decrease ) and around half again that many internationally.  Call it about 600.  That international store number went from 100 to 600 ( give or take a dozen or so ).  For the first sixty years the chain got up to maybe 150 or so stores.  They only went international during their too quick expansion.  But while their domestic numbers barely kept on to the debt fueled expansion stores, the numbers internationally exploded.

*

The company was saved, not by closing most of its stores ( like the Sears, K-Marts, etc. ) but by chasing the customers.  Now, if you follow the US economy, you know there are a few urban cores that are doing great.  Sure, mainly because of the stock market bubble ( Seattle, Silicon Valley ), but otherwise because of what was labeled the Imperial Pump by the Druid Dude.  The cities such as Washington DC that steal resources from elsewhere grow and the exploited areas shrink.  Hollywood draws in the pay off for being the propaganda disseminator, for instance.  New York is where the bankers rub elbows and they didn’t like Bronx 1999 so they let the city have its share of the loot as long as they keep the bums out of the subways.

*

Do you see some Krispy Kreme donut shops there?  Sure.  Do you see them everywhere, like Subway sandwiches ( I think I ate one of those a few years ago, gasping at the price tag and still rather hungry after eating the whole foot long I couldn’t taste any meat on )?  Even if they ONLY relocated to affluent areas, 400 isn’t enough to cover all the well to do areas.  Yet, they can do better by opening shops in Mexico City and Saudi Arabia?  What the hell is up with that?  Now, I know there isn’t just ONE thing causing this.  Our economic collapse is a perfect storm, as they usually are.

*

But what this tells me, primarily, is that taxes, banker controlled real estate bubbles, a worthless work force and rather importantly, shrinking disposable incomes even in affluent areas are probably behind this indicator.  Why is it more profitable to open in the capital of a supposed failed narco-state than it would be to open anywhere in the US?  I know what you’ll say-all the rich pricks congregate.  Sure, here in the US also.  I think we need to peek out from under our Hubris Blankee and take a better look around us.  It isn’t profitable to sell fresh food in the in theory most robust economy in the world.

*

Bull spittle!  Horse apples!  The best economy?  Nee-gro, please!  The Chinese need us more than we need them?  My dimpled hemorrhoid blood weeping ass!  We don’t even allow our workers to net enough to buy fresh donuts, for humps sake.  If you listen to foreign travelers, all of our decrepit piece of crap fast food places that get horrid reviews for cleanliness and customer service are doing the exact opposite overseas, presenting better food, better service and operating room clean eating experiences.  Sure, some is cultural.  But how much is due to the fact the banks are squeezing one and all for the last few drops of blood, quadrupling business rents and medical costs to where contagious disease is untreated, housing costs so high there are more homeless crapping on the sidewalk?

*

The KK leading economic indicator tells me that we ourselves, supposedly alert and aware preppers, are blind to the Potemkin Village the US has become, still somewhat blind to the crash since, you know, we still have a job.  “It is a recession when your neighbor loses his job.  It is a depression when you lose your job” was never supposed to be literal.  It was a lesson in perception.  It wasn’t supposed to be a fat glittery unicorn you could hide behind to avoid reality.  Indicators are important, yo.  They give you warning.  I say, if KK can only profit anywhere else, our economy is far worse than we can see.

  1. "...a worthless work force...", "...don’t even allow our workers to net enough..."

One begets the other. The under 50 workforce is appalling. I'm surprised anything gets done at all. Unbelievable stupidty and laziness by mostly obese barely literate blobs of shit that can't get on that cattle car conveyor soon enough to suit me.

This has been going on for a long time now. Back in 1992 I tried to hire some people for my architectural design business and was stunned with what was available. I hired one guy from the vo-tech and started him at $10 cash/hr on a trial basis and his own private office. I gave him a 15 min job to do and after 3 days the job wasn't done so I paid him and showed him the door, slammed it and never hired another person ever.

Lying, and stupidity, are 2 things I just can't deal with, and I see mass dosage every time I must venture into a commercial establishment. About 2 years ago I stopped at a Taco Bell in Columbus, IN and there was a sign on the door saying they were closed cause none of the employees showed up. How is it possible these days for people to live without a legitimate and regular income? I don't get it.

I'm seriously considering the explanation that most are simply dealing crack. Ten percent live with their parents until 30, twenty percent get medical disability, twenty percent work casually and live as slackers and the rest deal crack.

    2. The american economy being financialized (fake created money) has allowed for the non contribution of potential workers to exist in the system. It may be a grand plan to buy off placate the masses for calm / order / continued functiong of a contracting / collapsing economy-empire. For 10-12 dollar an hour part time jobs or gigs with no potential, most people are just opting out. It further exaggerated the problem along.

    3. I remember my sister, little bitch putting on airs, looking down her nose at $12 an hour. In 1993!!!! I went from struggling on $5 and thought $7 was heaven. Still can't imagine folks thinking $10 is peasant grape picking wages. But then, I don't like auto's or apartments, so I guess I'm just Not Right.

  4. Correct thesis again Jim. The 'Merican economy was stripped and looted by inept-greedy local management, or off shored by transnationalist corporates and 1% elite who live sheltered and isolated from the rest of 'merica and flyover land. A term 'velocity of money' is not accurate it should be the "undispersed drizzle of wealth rewards" upon the masses of workers/contributors. (As though they were lepers-undeserving) It is similar in my neighborhood (40+ year old/immigrant evolved) all of the "NICE" stores/restaurants/services and government attention white flighted elsewhere in leap frog fashion to chase the higher income yuppies as they moved outward. Now occuring on a national/ international scale. Hump them trailer trash and po folks mentally! This is not going to end well, plan accordingly.

    1. Never knew what a Scallywag was. Just enlightened by a YouTube hillbilly. It is a Quisling, selling out your own kind for rewards from the occupier. Southerners got to experience it 150 years ago. Now it is the rest of the nations turn ( including former scallywags ). Occupied and asset stripped. How sad you still think you are okay because you have a job for now. At this point, businesses following international money, one little hiccup and all the business will leave except the equivalent of ghetto Habeeb high priced convenience stores. I trust everyone either already acted on this assumption or is moving heaven and earth to do so now. Junk land under a grand is still readily available. Wheat is still cheap. Ammo is only going to go up. If I could jingle mail a home half paid for and sell my beloved 45's to move, making it on chump change wages, anyone can do this.

  5. Had a great time in Elko on the 2nd of July through the 4th!
$200 bucks got me some gambling a steak meal and some great fireworks (why didn't you tell us you could get firecrackers and M-50's full of Black Powder)?
None the less looking at the mouth breathers and knuckle drager"s in your town makes me want to stay further North of your Armpit of Doom.

    1. I hope you didn't eat at Red Lion or Gold Dust-more like cafeteria food. Commercial seems to be the best. This town is full of Yuppie Scum, worse, lazy yuppie scum since you can still live well on one income here if you are in the mining sector. Of course there are mouth breathers and knuckle draggers to spare ( poorly dressed, they are crack users, well dressed they are yuppie scum-all are mouth breathers ). Further north are Ida-Yo-ians. Mouth Breathers with superiority complexes based on wishful thinking.

  6. "Mouth Breathers with superiority complexes based on wishful thinking." Now that's some funny shizzle right there! Unfortunately it applies to a LOT more of the population than just the ol' Spud stompers in ID. Like 99.9 % of the population at any NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL stadium/arena for starters. Or any political convention. Or Church. Thanks for the chuckle buddy!

  7. I lived in Akron during the mid 2000s, and I remember KK built a new “factory” and distribution hub. Big doings what with the “new jobs” and “economic development” and all. It closed within a year. I wondered why Muricans weren’t eating all their sugar in volumes necessary to maintain a new factory. I guess that is the benefit to everyone getting fatter.. Moar jobs compacting sugar cubes! Until they closed. I guess all the workers went back to the govt dole and meth lab emterprises. As far as economic indicators go... do we really need another one to understand how screwed we are? If you don’t realize it by now, you never will.. you’ll just think that big kettle of boiling water is a spa.. until the knives come out.

    1. I think a lot of preppers get normalicy bias, assuming the decline will continue forever, forgetting there is a collapse on the end. I doubt these kinds of articles do much good, but I have to try and they are fun to do.
