A hat tip to the
commenting minion for this article idea.
The willingness to kill, and the general unwillingness to acknowledge
this necessity. This ties in with other
articles on aggressiveness and offensive verses defensive mindsets. The minion was noting that he had watched a
video of two Brits discussing the movie “The Survivalist” ( not the cheesy 80’s
movie available online that made TV movies look good in comparison, the new
2015 foreign film ). One opined that the
movie seemed to offer the lesson that “anyone surviving up to that point had to
be willing to kill”.
*
Simple enough, right? Well, like all theories it is indeed simple
but also like all theories it never survives a collision with reality
unchanged. People SAY they understand,
but that is like saying you understand how you must behave in a marriage. The fact so many of those unions end in divorce
tell me that no one really does in fact understand. Granted, 75% or so of all marriages that end
in divorce because the female wanted one, but let’s leave aside the financial
reasons at this point as I’m trying to illustrate a point. If 75% of 50% of marriages are a female
cashing out, that means really that only a smidge over a third of marriages end
from greed.
*
The rest of the marriages
are unions wherein the male is miserable and stuck or divorced from mutual
agreement because of incompatibility. We
don’t understand bitches. And we don’t
understand the need to kill. Why would
you be willing to kill? To save
yourself, of course. So why is it so
complicated? Because stasis is normal,
and die-off is not. Even now, fifty
years into our energy collapse ( which is really more descriptive than an
economic collapse ), we mostly seek stasis.
We do everything in our power to avoid change, even as preppers, even as
we know the fracking oil is nearly at its end as a viable industry ( either
financially or available resources to mine ), even as Peak Oil is over a decade
in our rear view mirror.
*
Even during pre-dieoff
systemic collapse, we all desperately cling to normalcy, and that includes the
cultural agreement that killing is abnormal.
There are many rules and restrictions on killing. The norm, 99.9% of the time, is to condone
killing. It is an aberration. But during the time between the initial
die-off’s and the restoration of order when a monopoly on force is once again
granted, you need to be able to suspend the normal prohibition and be not just
able but willing to kill.
*
Humans do very well in
denying themselves permission for behaviors that are too disruptive. Even on a deserted island, regardless of the
normal perception to repopulate that disasters bring on, we don’t practice
incest. Even if we are forced to resort
to cannibalism which itself is a hard taboo to ever break, even then we have
rules governing its behavior, to minimize the negative impact ( no eating
family members, no “helping them along” so we can eat earlier, etc ). But killing is so natural and necessary that
the behavior is never banned. It is only
regulated. The “natural and necessary”
part is what you need to keep in mind.
*
Leaving aside the obvious
freaks that unbelievably still breed ( the Pacific islanders who make
cannibalism ritualistic, the Amish that don’t believe in killing ), killing is
as natural and necessary as breathing.
Without the ability, the species would not survive. How else do we protect ourselves from our
apex predator, other humans? Just as we
need to breed, but not so much we breed with close family members, we also need
to kill but cannot be indiscriminate about it.
Breeding needs to be consensual for the benefit of a harmonious parent bond
necessary to raising a child for over a decade to maturity. And killing needs to be within agreed upon
bounds.
*
Killing is all fine and
dandy, indiscriminate killing is not.
Until it is, sort of. Group
governance dictates the rules of killing, which balances the positive and
negative consequences, which is dictated by local conditions. Once there is no longer a group, as in during
complete disruption during a 99% die-off, the monopoly of force is by necessity
conferred on the individual or small family.
Killing is NOT bad, as long as the rules are followed. And when you are all alone, you still have
your own rules to follow. But the first
rule is, first you need to kill.
*
You need to give yourself
permission to kill. Because any
hesitation and you yourself are killed.
Let me try an analogy. Let’s say
you belong to a Church that preaches everlasting love. To hate is to sin. This is of course understandable, since you
can’t be hating a official Church member who diddles your son, or kills him
after a war the Church declared to be just and proper, in conjunction with the
wishes of the State they are granted their power from ( yes, Papists, talking
to you ). In this case, you don’t have
permission to hate. But hating is good
and it is proper and just incidentally it is a bit fun. Hating keeps you alive because you are
untrusting and cautious.
*
It is actually quite the
ordeal going through self-deprogramming.
You must give yourself permission to hate, and to do that you must
discard the authority of your church. To
be willing to kill, you merely need to give yourself permission, because your
government who has been trying to kill you ( through either action or inaction
insofar as the collapse ) no longer has the authority to grant or withhold
permission. It has lost the monopoly on
force through its loss of legitimacy.
That is why I spend in inordinate amount of time highlighting the abuses
of our state in the last century plus. I’m
trying to show you the loss of legitimacy.
Remember, everything has a very simple solution, although the devil is
in the details.

Yep, devil is in the details. If a minion is in a scenario and has to self decide a course of action (even in matter of seconds) that requires a killing, well he is his own government and authority right then and there. If it occurs rurally,at night, under chaos conditions it can be "swept under a rug" and quietly cleaned up and normal operations resumed. It is only occurances in town, or around other people with their former functional society/antiquated belief systems that get in the way of necessities at the time. Then they want to project their holier than thou law and order, comfort blankies clinging drama on all the rest of society. Do what must be done, tend to the aftermath details, don't bother calling-telling "officer unfriendly" they were little help before the collapse/current situations, they will be little or no help at all afterwards as you are now a nuisance and another 'eater'/'prole'.
ReplyDeleteIf you trust cops now, you haven't been paying attention to the energy collapse. They are their own tribe. Period. Your brother in law the cop will choose his bros in blue over you come crunch time.
Delete8:47 has a correct approach. Jim you are right on target again, especially with regards to those l.e.o "community" of badge wearers and their families, court systems, jailers, and the whole 1/7th of the economy infrastructure built around their precious officer safety conundrum. I am emphathatic with the negroes anger over the police "overkill" literal handling of things. It applies to all of us "sheep" (their term for us folks) Thanxs again Jim, good knowledge!
DeleteI'm going to post this on tomorrows article as a note. Ties in with the above. The Story Of Your Enslavement

Loyalty to the paycheck trumps all.
ReplyDeleteThe gov't thugs are my only fear.
I stay away from them.
The sad part is, 90% of them are pretty much just as decent and moral as the rest of us. We just hide our money loyalty and hurtful secondary effects several times removed. Ex: how many little brown people did you help kill last week when you used imported oil?
DeleteI think if you can hunker down for the first few days or weeks until initial collapse massacre has subsided, the law of the jungle will kick into effect and "predator respect" will go into effect. Personally, I have a short list of people I'd like to see gone just on general principles. Of course, being a law abiding sort of fellow I'm willing to wait! Good post James.
ReplyDeleteRight, don't get me wrong. Let other people and their munitions clear out most of the Lamp Post List. Fight smarter, not harder.
DeleteGood post. The Survivalist instantly became my favorite PA movie of all time. Luckily it was produced in the UK, because hollyweird would have destroyed that script instantly by “PC’ing it up” a notch or two.
ReplyDeleteWhites seem to be the demographic the furthest removed from the necessary brutal instincts to survive. Sure, you have your Eric Rudolph, Claude Dallas types. But these folks are rare even amongst the rural white community. Damn, I looked everywhere for the quote by Ragnar Benson, that detailed perfectly the difficult decisions that PA folks would be facing, but couldn’t find it. It was something to the effect of how would you handle the hypothetical situation of an elderly lady showing up at your retreat with a group of famished and wide eyed waifs. It was an unpleasant thought exercise as I recall.
It’s been a while since I’ve read him, but as I recall, the super survivalist guru seemed to indicate that culling “the undesirables”, whilst simultaneously dispensing “Christian charity” was a doable policy PA. Not seeing it, though technically he should know better than I, being an expert on such matters...
I've always thought 'ol Ragnar to be rather overrated. His last book, even as short as it was, was unreadable drivel. Literally, the ravings of a deranged mind. If you all think I'm no good off my meds, try reading it. If you want to waste your money:

Yeah, I had a feeling that ‘Ol Ragnar wasn’t your cup of tea. Right off, I can think of 4 of his books that I have: The Survival Retreat, The Modern Survival Retreat (Updated version) Starting A New Life In Rural America, and David’s tool kit (I probably wouldn’t purchase something like this online today). I enjoyed the hell out of all 4 of them, particularly the first 3 books.
DeleteAs I was thumbing through The Modern Survival Retreat to look for that quote, I noticed that chapter 6 was devoted to seeking out fellow retreat members, and appeared to have some pretty good advice. Since I hate 99.999% of all people, and plan on going it alone (or at least mostly alone) even if it means an early death, this means nothing to me. But for some of the minions it might be worth picking up the book for this chapter alone, if you can find a used copy at a reasonable price.
I was also thinking of picking up Survival Poaching (Good reviews, and one was from a former game warden praising the practicality of Ragnar’s techniques) and possibly Modern Weapons Caching, or How to Survive The Coming Plagues.
I think I read all of his earlier ones. Back in the mid-80's there was a short lived company selling survival books on microfiche, to include most Paladin books. To illustrate how little I regarded any on the books, I gave them away before I shipped back overseas. Microfiche. Didn't even take up a shoebox. And it wasn't worth room in my duffle bag.
