Most agitators focus their fury on FDR’s New Deal turning the US into a socialist welfare state.  What they refuse to acknowledge, mainly from having drunk the Kool-Aid propaganda the elites funded with “free market” organizations ( don’t lash out at the messenger-at one time I was guzzling that sugary drink by the gallon ), was that most of the changes strengthened the central government and the corporations and the central bankers.  If anything was left over, it was nothing short of a bribe to keep the masses from revolting from hunger.  What to you is “welfare scum, lazy humpers” is to me exploited poor without job prospects ( those jobs not outsourced overseas are few in number and used as a control mechanism ) who either have no choice in accepting entitlements ( ghetto Blacks and rural mobile home dwellers truly work in a No Job Zone-Rush Limbaugh Clones who bleat about them becoming small business owners conveniently forget about the need for disposable income from a customer base.  They also pretty up the barriers to entry erected by big business and big government ), or refuse to play the rich mans games as they see through the BS a lot better than most.  Rich apologists are the perfect cover for the rich stripping the assets of our empire before retirement.

The point is, empire bought domestic consent with bribes.  Not that they WANTED to, you understand.  Unions were discouraged with a suitable level of force from squad automatic weapon armed Nation Guard or Pinkerton forces ( or city police ).  Even peaceful dissent was greeted with torches ( “accidentally” burning down a tent city of peacefully demonstrating ex-military needing their bonuses early due to the Depression.  Which, let’s be realistic, wasn’t an unreasonable demand since the government drafted them, then caused the economic collapse to herd all the independent banks under the umbrella of the Federal Reserve [ plus, steal all the gold with 40% devalued Greenbacks ].  Burning civilians to death to keep order goes back prior to Waco ).  The government didn’t have any problem using force to get its will mindlessly obeyed.  So you can bet your last un-backed fiat paper currency note that to start handing out government welfare, the government had to have been forced to.  Only imminent revolt would have lit a fire under their asses.  FDR did NOT turn this country socialist out of some ideological aberration, thank you very much idiot savant Glen Beck, but to keep order.

Do you think the GI Bill and the Cold War was a generous thank you card, and an accident, respectively?  Free college was both a gift to corporations and a bribe to pacify legions of combat trained and mostly well armed citizens and the war with the Soviets was a means to keep wartime levels of factory production.  Jobs only materialized with war material ( and the draft, instituted a year and half or so prior to Pearl Harbor, and continued after peace was declared ) being vomited forth.  World War One saw a huge subsidy to farmers in the form of food to our allies, so it was no great stretch of the imagination to realize America joining the war again would put everyone back to work after twelve years of the Great Depression.  Besides the draft, public works projects were seemingly planed very early to be turned towards wartime needs.  Anyone who thinks we were accidentally attacked and surprised by it has their head so far up their ass that they should either go work in Washington DC or for a corporate CEO.

Alas, as with all bribes, such as the Romans paying the barbarians to NOT attack the imperial city, you need a wealth surplus to keep the growing legions of discontents from bestirring themselves from the recliner in front of the 60” television watching Judge Judy and American Idol ( or attacking their fellow barbarians for entertaining fun and profit and supple buxomly babes as consolation prizes ).  When the spigot of surplus energy slows to a trickle and the wealth disappears into the elites Bug Out Bag, the bribes start to get much harder to hand out.  This is the infamous “riots start when the welfare checks stop”.  But “welfare checks” brings to mind lazy ghetto dwellers pissed at the world when the Food Stamps fail to cover a bucket of KFC and a pint of Mad Dog ( Good Christ On A Pogo Stick!  Have you seen what they want for a bucket of fried chicken?  BBQ‘ing a few steaks would be cheaper ).  Bad news, Sparky, most of the population is being bribed by welfare.  If it were just recently incarcerated Blacks and their packs of bastards bred by Big Mamma ( or the trailer park equivalent for Rednecks ), the bill could easily be covered.  Usually, the government civil servants and their assorted corporate parasites actually see more money from welfare than the actual recipients.  No reason to stop that gravy train.  But when nearly the whole economy is propped up by government spending, you have another whole ball game going on.  More next article.
