survival hermitage book 11

SURVIVAL HERMITAGE BOOK 11
Less Money
Oh, how I have babbled and prattled on about the absolute necessity of getting the hell away from everyone, even and especially that contrived tribe member.  Because People Are Hell.  Not because we don’t need people-we do.  We didn’t become pack animals to protect against lions and then decided to abandon those hundreds of thousands of years of evolution for no reason. No, we have ALWAYS been mentally hard-wired to need each other in armpit stink close proximity ( is that why farts are funny?  Another bonding experience ).  That is why we are tribal.
*
That is why we are racist and xenophobes, why we hate diversity and love stupid gladiatorial games.  Tribes protect us.  But only tribes that are formed from near death experiences or joined at birth are loyal to each other ( we were literally forced into loving others who want us to die for the group upon fear of dying otherwise ).  Tribes that are put together like a book club or a Boys Tree House club have no real loyalty or lasting power.  And that is the ONLY group that you have as an option for tribing up for the apocalypse.
*
Being culturally isolated autonomous individuals not even unified by family, there simply is no point in pretending a tribe will be a viable structure which can be used to help you survive.  I bought into the whole tribe ideal.  So far in my current location, I have stockpiled for and have planned on making three different groups my ad hoc tribe.  I didn’t tell them because they were idiots but at least partially trustworthy idiots.  And they all moved for financial reasons.  Now I’ve given up and just figured it will be me and the Old Lady against all.
*
Neither way is close to viable or ideal.  Tough cookies.  I’ve had a good life ( I worked hard towards a meaningful relationship, and towards a skill and talent.  Material goods mean nothing in the end ) and if it ends tomorrow I’m okay with that.  If I have another ten to twenty years, even if most of that involves killing idiots to cleanse the gene pool rather than playing at Internet Journalist, I’m okay with that also.  Don’t forget that as important as all this prepping stuff is, living a satisfying life is also important.
*
Which is why I don’t care anymore if forming a tribe is impossible.  People are getting much more insufferable.  Going it alone is much better NOW, as well as AFTER.  How can anyone argue that it isn’t a good thing to avoid most people now?  Haven’t most of us been moving in that direction most of our lives anyway? Away from people, as people prove time and again to be the worthless cures that they can be and want to be and simply are.  Avoiding people is its own reward, now and after the apocalypse.  Facts be hard, yo.
*
Staying around people is expensive, as there is always someone profiting off our inability to avoid each other.  All the Greenies try to sell the concept of giving up our own land and houses and moving into packed condo high rises and using public transportation, as if not only would this save the planet but also save resources and money.  In actual fact they are asking for unlimited immigration ( more room now ) and rising costs of living.  Cities are MORE expensive, not cheaper.  Infrastructure is cheaper but there are more parasitical organizations canceling that out.
*
It is cheaper to live way out in the boonies because you are elimination all the middle men only there to profit off the privilege for you to breathe, eat, drink and secrete.  Think about it.  One pipe can carry water to a hundred people in the city, yet each person pays far more than what it costs per capita.  Sure, the water bill might be cheap, but then they rape you on the sewage bill.  Then they sell that reclaimed water back to you.  It is cheaper for rain catchment and composting toilets.  In the country, there is very little actual tax on that dirt road near you.
*
Nor must you own a car to keep you safe from all the ghetto dwelling Diversity People.  Remember the huge fuss over carjacking?  It was so scary because the car was the ONLY form of safety folks had working in the city.  You think that was scary, just wait until the PetroDollar takes its final puke and you cannot get gasoline anymore.  If you are silly enough to believe Fracking Forever, you might as well throw in Abiotic Oil to fuel your fantasies of Happy Motoring Uber Alles.  Whatever papers over your poor choices.
*
You need less money out at the Hermitage, and hence can earn a lot less money, which is really nice because after a certain age, earning money blows.  The deal used to be, a hundred years ago, you worked until you dropped.  Ideally you made it to your fifties.  Why do you think they all smoked?  Work was going to kill them before cigarettes did, and for how bad tobacco is for you, its one saving grace is that is sooths over red ass exposure to people causes.  For a time, you worked hard manual labor then “semi-retired” to management.
*
That way, you had the energy to keep working until 65.  But then they took away those management positions AND made smoking unaffordable.  Cheese dinguses!  Anymore, don’t count on being able to work much past 45-50, for your average Joe.  No more energy for Monkey Work, no more management positions as they all went to diversity hires.  Why continue to struggle in the city where prices continue to rise, as your savings and income shrink?  Embrace the Suck of economic war against White Males.  Embrace poverty, make it your own.  You can’t play in the rigged game.

it's worthless so send it all to me

IT’S WORTHLESS SO SEND IT ALL TO ME
Money, that is.  For some time now I’ve preached ( as in, my unprovable faith was given as science ) that you should live as poor as possible because one day you are going to wake up and your paper currency will be worth not much except as barter for two things-dingus and squat.  “Oooooh! Dollar Most Valuable!  Global Currency!” is usually the attitude I get in response ( it helps to embrace your inner anti-diversity and picture a stereotypical Asian peasant with squinty eyes talking in a falsetto, to get my intended comic effect ).
*
The issue at hand is that everything from family loyalty to love and fighting off the Grim Reaper has been monetized.  We mostly have little talent for surviving without money, or even conceptualizing life without it.  Simply witness the prepper movement which is nothing more than a paid guide helping you through a giant shopping mall, and helping you plan your personal warehouse full of the macho equivalent of pairs of shoes.  I justify it as “equipment to get you through to a self-sustainable life”.  Mostly though, it is buying a security blanket.
*
It won’t help you survive, because you are too close to people, but you sleep well at night now, and that ain’t chicken feed.  But let us be honest with ourselves.  Most prepper purchasing isn’t going to really help all that much because it is just a continuation of earning and spending money.  People can’t even surrender the idea of shopping after the collapse.  Precious metals and barter items are just as important as food, in their minds.  And no, I’m not trying to heave stones in glass housing units.  We all do it because money is natural to us all.
*
You cannot divorce yourself away from the money economy, if for no other reason than trade is mandatory in any Agricultural society.  That is just the way it has always been.  Even your intrepid mountain man needed furs for salt, flour and powder.  Unless you are a Bush Bitch in an equatorial jungle, you belong to the money system ( and if those jungle dudes get a chance, they join also because metal is pretty darn awesome.  Not to mention Johnny Walker, to help you forget there are really nasty things living on your skin and in your intestines ).
*
So, living poor isn’t about NOT buying crap.  We all need booze and machetes.  Even if you are a teetotaler, the first time a tooth needs to come out after the apocalypse, you’ll be glad to have some.  And by “machete” of course you know I mean “bayonet” for your bolt action equine shooter.  No one can avoid the market economy, nor hope to trade furs for your property tax bill. The monopoly monsters must be bribed.  I think the trick that is hard to pull off but vital is to buy your way to not buying, as close as you can.
*
Isn’t that what we talk about all the time?  Investing in Oil Age products now, so that we need less money later.  The passive solar home now to avoid heating bills later.  Building up a garden to avoid some food bills later.  But we never stop there.  We spend more on chicken feed now than what store eggs cost, for food security.  Thousands of rounds of ammunition now, because gun laws will prohibit that shortly.  We buy security by buying insurance.  Which is far more costly than just investing towards the end of the money economy.
*
And that NEVER ends, because it can’t.  You can’t be secure enough.  You cannot put enough concertina wire up, lest Charlie worm his way in.  You can never have enough ammunition because, duh, diversity armies.  Or black helicopters.  Or FEMA camp rail cars.  Hopefully you’ve been around long enough to realize that I am NOT an optimistic person.  Anyone who tells you to not worry and be happy is-you guessed it-Charlie in disguise.  They want to use your guts for garters.  They want you to die.  Am I hateful, cynical and untrusting?  You bet!  Am I miserable? Nah!
*
Why do you think anyone that isn’t beaming like a high voltage searchlight is miserable?  You are so busy trying to look at the bright side of a flattened turd ( “it’s great for camp fuel!” ) that you have gone sun blind.  Your happiness is a cruel delusion that forms a protective bubble around you that lets in no pictures but that distorted one you desire.  I’m happy everyday, because I assume far worse than what I normally experience, and am then pleasantly surprised.  Anything less than torture and cannibalism, slavery or starvation, I’m happy in its absence.
*
That is how I look at money.  I don’t need much.  I can live with less.  I’m still happy when I get extra even though I don’t need it except to go shopping for crap I don’t need.  I just had some extra funds, as I had panic withdrew most checking account money in expectation of Wells Fargo to lead the way in bank runs ( what?  Is everyone living on credit instead of debit? ).  I had no idea what to do with it.  Silver? Meh.  Guns or ammo?  Why?  I just scored more ammo.  More cash sucked.
*
I hate having cash on hand.  But what the heck am I going to do with more hard assets?  I have more wheat than I have years left to live, most likely.  How am I ever going to use 10k rounds of ammo through a bolt action?  Why get more silver? I can’t use it.  The Dark Ages will last hundreds of years and the county won’t be around getting property tax all that long ( the main reason to have some silver around ).  I’ve duplicated everything I can think of on equipment.  Even land has a back-up.
*
That is not to claim I’m perfectly prepared.  I have plenty of projects to complete ( water catchment, solar oven, bury the trailer?, etc ).  I just don’t have overwhelming panic attacks needing to rush out and buy stuff.  I’m far from free from money.  That will never happen.  I just have few needs left.  Need I remind you on how little salary I did all that on?  Not being blinded by happiness or optimism, I panicked early and avoided the rush.  I did that by living poor and by trying to train myself to need far less.
*
Needing less, my Year’s Worth of savings is less than what you need in a month.  So stop envisioning a huge safe stuffed with cash.  I could still live okay on $150 a month.  Not great, but okay.  I still like to eat dead animals every night, and the only critters out in the wild are stringy coyotes or worm filled jack rabbits.  The only thing keeping me from putting up years of canned meat is the worry of transportation or theft.  I need to work on that.  But then, I would need almost no money in savings.
*
Don’t just live life with all the modern luxuries.  Strive towards less all the time, no matter what form that takes.  I know a lot of you are already there, watching TV from an antenna, driving an old clunker to town just once a month for shopping.  Only buying prepping crap you don’t need more of because you need to spend the surplus somehow.  Good for you.  You can already lose most trading units with little adjustments.  The rest of you?  Living poor ( living UNDER your income ) is great training.  And it leads to freedom.  Start now.

peak oilers under every bed

PEAK OILERS UNDER EVERY BED
Ah, Raconteur Report, you crazy bastard.  Even when wrong, at least you are well presented and interesting.  There you are, living in California which used to be THE biggest oil producer in the country ( granted, the bar was lower back then ), and which now barely vomits forth ANY oil ( and the refining is being allowed to go to crap, also ), and you have no basis of comparison to give any validation that Peak Oil is a problem?  No, instead it is a leftist propaganda tool ( this from a reader, not Aesop himself ).
*
I’m not pointing any specific fingers at the above site.  Nor questioning the intelligence of its publisher.  This was a readers comment, to repeat.  If I was judged by the attitude of my readers, I would be mocked for loving semi-automatic AR-15’s with FLIRS and ridiculed for only having a short term food storage.  Well, probably not, because most folks think like that ( “what do you mean, poor people mostly lived off grain?” “if you don’t have suppressive fire, how could you possibly fight?” ).  But I SHOULD be judged by the company I keep J
*
I just bring this up as I was completely shocked and confused.  There was some guy once again judging everything in red and blue terms, and I innocently asked how Obammy could be judged as if Peak Oil wasn’t a reality.  WOW!  You would think that I accused the pope of molesting a choirboy while crapping in the woods.  I mean, it isn’t like the odds are too bad that most of the Catholics clergy did in fact help the help along with their sexual identity, nor is it like this current pope isn’t a total PC douche.
*
I shouldn’t have been village shunned as if I had said anything untrue.  And I HAD gotten used to everyone going around waving a happy smile and pretending that fracking would last two hundred years.  But I guess it wasn’t enough to ignore physics.  You couldn’t admit fracking was just a corporate stock market Ponzi scheme ( albeit a darn useful one buying us ten years before the economic collapse ) and had to double seal the deal by throwing it under the socialist bus.  Yes, environmental greenie policies are the only reason we are running out of energy.  Suuuuuuurrrre.
*
There are reasons for environmental policies, and almost every one involves somebody making money off of it.  But the Left, supposedly because they are retarded illogical unthinking morons, only want those policies because they are robots repeating mantras.  Did Obammy’s policy against diesel have anything at all to do with that fuels shortage? Or was it JUST because he is a Green Weenie?  If you think about it, taxes on diesel do put downward pressure on demand, just what you need when shortages loom ( Fake Fuels deliver less to no fuels other than gasoline, so where does diesel come from? ).
*
A tax is actually a far less disruptive form of rationing than allowing the free market to impose sudden catastrophic price hikes along with a product disappearing.  People have time to make adjustments before the tax is imposed which immediately relieves some pressure on demand and can hence alleviate shortages.  And once taxes are imposed the idiots who had done nothing have no choice but to start using less or using something else.  And as a bonus, the government gets more taxes.  Which is probably all they cared about, but the net effect is to sensibly ration something.
*
I’ve said it before.  Those professing a love of capitalism are actually supporting globalism.  I’d actually rather live under socialism than capitalism which is in reality nothing more than a cover for nation-less corporations stealing our jobs and infrastructure while importing Turd World armies to eliminate us ( of course, I’d prefer fascism.  Not the racist kind, the No Central Bank and Uber-Nationalist Militant kind ).  But everyone is blinded by black and white politics ( “you are either for or against us.  If you don’t eliminate ALL taxes and ALL regulations you are a communist” ).
*
( well, okay, a tiny bit of racism is okay.  Not enough to waste resources eliminating other races, just enough to keep the nation homogenous and culturally pure.  Not racially pure, just protecting the culture.  If you don’t want to merge into Whiteness over time, such as Mexicans, only understanding English, here is a boat ticket to the land of your ancestors.  How is that a bad thing?  An American taco is no where close to a Mexican taco.  Chop Suey was invented in America.  We don’t need native speaking only immigrants to assimilate other ideas as our own )
*
Anyway, back to confusing resource decline with bad politics.  Yes, leftists are idiots.  Look at them over in France, protesting higher taxes and yet wanting more welfare.  The right, however, is absolutely no better.  They want cheap gasoline which is only possible by paying for a very expensive military and subsidizing money losing Frackers ( you think they might have been slightly responsible for some of the hype and disinformation? ).  They wonder how to make America Great again-meaning, a job would kind of be nice-by eliminating all taxes on the rich and refusing to enforce any regulations on companies.
*
They mock the Left for wanting nationalized health care and then support “free market” facades for health and pharmaceutical and insurance companies which are responsible for twenty to thirty percent medical inflation a year.  Both left and right are patsies for the trifecta of evil that is literally killing us-government, corporations and bankers, only differing about who has or needs the most power over us and legitimacy from us.  Not that libertarians have the answers as they think open immigration is a great idea ( but then, I guess they are part of the left/right ).
*
When the right says, hey, environmentalists made up Peak Oil to control us ( because obviously even further commutes to the last few jobs left, with the cheapest gasoline, is all a great idea ), not only are they the water bearers for the globalists, they are deluding themselves into believing Forever Abundance is just a vote away.  You shouldn’t be supporting anyone that wants to kill you, and your only vote should be with your walking wallet, getting far more free from all the dependencies that enslave you ( like a 30 year mortgage on that homestead, or a car ).

note: those laser boresighters I got on clearance sale?  You know, because I'm awesome and have an odd choice of firearms?  None of them worked as instructed.  The on/off switch didn't work.  I futzed with them for some time and finally figured out I had to ignore the switch.  I just shoved a bit of tinfoil on top of the batteries.  Enough that the sides of the case are contacted ( then you must remove to shut off the power ).  I only paid a few bucks each, but the regular ones are about $20.  It seems they wouldn't be such junk at that price.  Just in case anyone has the same issues-better than dealing with returning for a refund, and they do then actually work.

vet value

VET VALUE
What is the value for survivalists in having served in the military, and why are so many vets survivalists?  The question came up on YouTube as Survival Prepping For Normal People responded to a video by Canadian Prepper.  I didn’t see Canadians video ( Too Many Generals ), but SPFNP was giving his thoughts on the question.  In a nutshell, although he usual can babble on for at least ten minutes ( although if I have the time I enjoy listening to him ramble-he is almost always interesting ), he thinks experiencing Turd World SHTF conditions did the trick.
*
It is a viable answer, surely, but I respectfully disagree.  It could be a partial answer, but that ignores the fact that the majority of preppers are much older than the current Sandbox Wars age of enlistment and service allow for.  I would imagine the average prepper served back when the Soviet Union was still around, and the only thing coming close to combat was a fight with a bought of VD from the local whore.  So we are mostly talking peacetime veterans, not anyone who experienced combat.  Even then, how many theatre of operation vets actually fought?
*
I think most of you know my stance on my military service.  I was part of the Imperial Occupation Force.  I didn’t fight in any war.  I don’t actually consider myself a vet.  To me, vets are guys who saw combat.  Everyone else is just a paper pusher or civil servant.  So, Veterans Day, I don’t belong on the rolls.  That is probably just me, of course.  I just bring this up to apologize for using the term to denote all prior service members, as a short hand communication.  But there is a difference between those serving and those fighting.
*
Serving in the military is like serving in a Boy Scout Troop with a really sadistic leader who is always in a bad mood ( and likes figurative sodomy ).  You almost always learn more about a career in being part of the logistics long tail and how to properly genuflect before your deity-like leaders than you do about combat.  And serving overseas, you almost always get a more sanitized Disney Park like experience from the locals, if you are just serving rather than fighting.  They “Americanize” their interactions with you, to get your disposable income.
*
I have nothing but respect for those who saw combat, but that ain’t most of us.  So it stands to reason that few vets now survivalists ever fought.  And they mostly stayed on base while overseas.  Even if they didn’t, let’s be realistic.  Downtown Detroit and the Garment District in L.A. is no more safe or sanitary than most cities our overseas bases are near.  It isn’t like it was a complete shock visiting those locations.  We aren’t in THAT much of a bubble.  So, no, I don’t think pampered Americans are all that shocked or surprised at what they see abroad.
*
If you were in combat, sure.  Your worldview would probably change to a certain degree.  But enough to move to a cabin in the woods and stock cases of beans and bullets?  I’m not sure if one follows the other.  I imagine far more suburban dads built a fallout shelter because of a fear of Soviet missiles, than Vietnam vets began prepping because getting shot at sucks.  I’m not trying to minimize anyone’s experience here.  All I am trying to point out is that seeing people in squalor or being shot at doesn’t mean you start prepping.
*
How many folks that got shot at in Vegas at the country music concert became survivalists, and how many simply decided not to go to crowded events ever again?  See what I’m saying?  Now, being in the military might have highlighted why it is a terrible idea to count on the government for anything.  The bureaucratic bumbling that is SNAFU might lead some to conclude they had better be their own bank, police force and farmer.  But did they need to go overseas to realize that?  Just staying in barracks highlights the number of folks unable to pour piss out of a boot.
*
I think the reason so many vets are now survivalists is something ALL former military personnel were taught, peacetime or war, overseas or domestic.  Killing the enemy is your job, and the enemy are everywhere and far more dangerous than mere civilian pukes realize.  The military is a bit like the police, you and your buddies against all the other scumbags.  Thin Blue line, thin Green line.  Hell, really, it is just like the High School football team if you think about it.  Only you are worthy, and nobody else is.
*
And only YOU know how close the enemy is to Ruining The American Way Of Life.  And only YOU can prevent our demise ( and, sometimes literally if you are in the National Guard, only YOU can help prevent forest fires.  Or at least help fight them ).  And because of Army Training, Sir! ( “Stripes” movie reference ), only YOU are authorized to go forth ( under supervision of course ) and smite the godless heathens.  First it was Godless Communists and now it is the Muzzies who follow a false god, even as we PC Protect them.  Enemies Abound! Kill!
*
I believe it is the first exposure to Permission To Engage Violently that marks the difference between civilians ( well, those not in gangs ) and those having served in the military.  All your life, you wish and strive towards violence, as is your want as a male, and for most of us all your life the squishy forces of emotional estrogen have denied you permission to strike down the unworthy and the dangerous.  Oh, fighting is wrong.  Oh, duels are bad. Oh, no vigilante retaliation.  But when you get in the military, they WANT you to kill and maim.
*
But we aren’t then just unrestrained psycho’s straining at the leash.  Like a hammer looking for any nail, the military like anyone else justifies their existence by seeing nails even when there aren’t any.  Everybody and everything is a threat.  That is the other side of the survivalist coin.  You already know that preparing to kill is cool, and now you begin to understand that Charlie is everywhere outside the wire.  Everyone and everything is a threat, and all threats must be trained and prepared for.  And ALL Communists are better off dead ( God will sort them out ).
*
And just writing that, I’m beginning to wonder just how deep the military propaganda went.  I used to wonder, hey, WHAT propaganda?  Other than them changing me for the better now being able to suck up pain and carrying on despite it ( “sick-call is for pussies” ), I didn’t think their mind control went too far.  Well, the best propaganda is when you think it is your own idea.  I wonder-how much of my paranoia was born during and how much was after my military service?  I thought just constantly getting screwed in life was the source.  Now?
*
Not that it matters.  Just as you cannot un-see a naked seventy year old Hilary, you cannot undo paranoia.  That is what THEY want, isn’t it?  For you to let down your guard ( I’m being sarcastic, but also completely genuine ).  Anyway, those are just my thoughts.  For what they are worth.  I’m not sure how much relevance they have, but I can’t help but to be fascinated peeking under the hood of our psyche.  ‘Cause knowing is half the battle, G.I. Joe.

war stimulus dead 3

WAR STIMULUS DEAD 3
Back when agriculture was first conceived of/experimented with, the domesticated grain was a supplement to hunting and gathering.  The hunting was still primary and the cultural and social structure placed the needs of the hunting into its infrastructure.  And when industry was first introduced ( using carbon fuels-there had been water powered industry throughout the Agricultural Age ), farming was still the economy and the culture and the social structure and industry merely supplemented that as it always had.  The difference was the machines replacing labor.  The transition took some time, to replace labor AND farming as a culture.
*
Or as an economy.  The War ‘Agin Mexico was an Agricultural Age war, through and through.  Less than fifty years later industry had displaced enough farming that militaries went from seasonal militia to the reserve system that used most males for much longer wars.  The US pretty much transitioned from Ag to Industry in one four year war.  The war did for industry what took decades for the railroad to do, government subsidy and investment to guide the economy.  Folks complain how much NASA spent to subsidize the microchip or similar industries, but that was the norm from the Erie Canal.
*
Most countries used fascism or communism ( or its kissing cousin socialism ) to guide the economy for the good of the nation ( with the elite getting hookers and blow as a bonus, in ALL systems ).  We just used capitalism.  Probably because it worked so well for the then current colonial empire.  If we had come along later to the Industrial Age, we might have modeled ourselves after Prussian Militants.  But of course, capitalism has its own systems cost.  The bankers need to be paid, a built in heavy cost.
*
This works while building empire, but not so well as the empire starts to get into trouble.  That is what we are seeing today, the end of the spiral as the system goes broke more and more treasure is diverted to the bank.  But what happened fifty years ago, the half way point of empire?  I maintain that the only thing that occurred was a halt in growth.  Not a drop in resource growth, still nearly a decade away.  Just a halt in growth.  That was enough to break the economic system.  Other factors didn’t help but they were bit players.
*
We could have had a soft coup by the intelligence services that assassinated Kennedy.  They enjoyed the man behind the throne part too much to be disbanded.  They were smart enough to leave the bankers position alone, and had no problem supporting a war that was supposed to goose the economy as WWII had done ( well, to be clear, WWII saved the economy.  The Cold War continued that paradigm-complete economic mobilization to fight had a built in demand system capitalism lacked ).  They could have fumbled the ball there with mismanagement.  Like the KGB trying to run the Soviet Union, basically.
*
But remember why the Civil War was so successful.  It paid for the industrialization of the country, a government subsidy.  World War One and its aftermath bailed out the farming industry and helped manufacturing production ( it helped TOO much, leading to overproduction-just as today’s Chinese expansion lead the world economy into a Depression ).  WWI was another Total War, using a large section of our finances to fund the Europeans.  We waited long enough to weaken all other countries, winning economic superiority globally ( military dominance would have to wait until the next war ).
*
During the war we social engineered massively, propaganda and dissent control across the whole nation ( we anti-German’ed to the point most German Immigrant culture northern tier states changed school curriculum as well as other adaptations to purge German culture.  And that was BEFORE we entered the war ).  It was another Total War.  And that was just a warm up for how we conducted ourselves in the next global conflict.  Yet, Vietnam was not the same, at all.  All the social engineering ( subsidizing the Hippies, the Pill and the Women’s Lib movement, Black Revolution, immigration of OtherColors legalized ) was AGAINST the war.
*
The war was fought like all the others from the last century.  Turn every factory into war time production and induct every warm body to fight by human wave tactics.  It is easy to say there was no popular consent to the war and that is why it failed, but I still maintain the civil unrest was engineered, in that is was tolerated and encouraged rather than rigorously crushed ( like anti-war protesters were in WWI and WWII ).  I think the fight against the dissenters was staged and managed.
*
I can only conclude that the war was deliberately lost, as a profit center.  The war was conducted tactically, strategically and economically just as WWII had been.  Total War, the entire economy devoted to production.  My guess might have been that the war was conducted as business per usual, then it was discovered that rather than goosing the economy is was destroying it, and in desperation the profiting elite changed tactics and used manufactured discord to try to save the economy.  But I think that misses the mark.  The timeline and details are too murky for me to draw conclusive details.
*
Be that as it may ( and I will probably keep plugging away at that question in the future as it fascinates me-the exact turning point we started our decline ), the Total War model was dead.  In its place, we attempted to fight Smarter Rather Than Harder, going all in with technology to substitute for walls of steel.  Smart guided missiles rather than artillery barrages.  More firepower per person to reduce the number of soldiers needed.  Etcetera.  Since we no longer needed to mobilize the population to fight, we no longer needed social cohesion ( although that might be a chicken and egg problem ).
*
Lack of Total War saved a bunch of money.  It was excused and promoted along the lines of anti-guerrillas to supplement our nuclear arsenal, two counters to the “new realities” of war, but it was nothing more than a sorry substitute for a military we no longer had the resources to field.  The Soviet Union breaking their economy on the rock of Afghanistan was their Vietnam.  Both the end of military empire and the end of Total War being affordable ( we didn’t have the resources for it, the Soviets didn’t have the finances for it ).
*
So, I guess that means our Afghanistan was their Afghanistan J Now, let me be clear on our war in that country and our inability to fight Total War.  No matter how long we end up staying there ( it is almost like pulling out would curse our economy like it did the Soviets, so superstition alone keeps us there ), it is only a high tech war.  It was never a total war in that we mobilized the entire economy to fight it.  Vietnam was the last war we could afford to do so, and it ended up bankrupting us.
*
We can print up as much money as desired, and get into as big of deficits as desired to fight, but it is ALL costs.  Not return on investments.  All wars until Vietnam paid.  The botty was bootylicous.  Lots of free land, free colonies, free economic stimulus ( free to those profiting, anyway ).  Now wars just cost.  There is no return.  No sectors of the economy are stimulated.  High Tech has gotten to be High Cost because it became just another asset stripping activity after Vietnam, a reward sector like insurance or medical.
*
( The first Gulf War we actually profited off of, I’ll admit.  Mostly because we got all the other allied nations to foot the bill ).  Our entire defense industry is built to ONLY build high tech weapons on a small scale.  Civilian companies have built more AR-15’s in the last ten years than the military bought in the last fifty.  No computer chips for all the tech are built here.  We have no more military industrial production capacity.  How can you fight a Total War, afford it, equip it or get economic stimulus from it, without Total War infrastructure?
*
( P.S.-I had to cut this a little short, more than I would have cared to.  The Vietnam economy was simply glossed over.  Sorry.  More research is obviously required and I was on the way to writing a book, which no one wants.  I would have liked to focus more on the high tech aspect of warfare, the switch over, etcetera.  The takeaway is that we have no feedstock for Total War, and the infrastructure was dismantled in the 70’s and 80’s.

war stimulus dead 2

WAR STIMULUS DEAD 2
The reasons for war never change.  Man has always been territorial because territory has that nifty little thing called “food” in it, and in all of man’s history, be that religious nutters improbable six thousand years or evolutionists dogmas equally unlikely two million, everything can be explained by food.  Just as in the animal kingdom.  You can be as philosophical as you wish ( “we are a moral and reasoning being” ) but man likes to eat to survive, and will do anything to anyone anywhere or anywhen to do so.
*
( talking to you, delusional dimwits who believe we will go against our best interests in eating to “save the planet” ) Man might have choices and free will and rationalizing ability but he also has cultural programming and biological hardwiring which dictate 99% of his actions.  War-what is it good for?  Survival.  And eating.  So get over it, it is here to stay.  Only HOW war is waged differs.  And how it was waged for a hundred years was to turn the economy into war production.  You could do it seriously half assed, such as when fighting Bush Bitches in a colonial war.
*
You could do it All In, a complete effort holding nothing back, keeping your breeders working rather than breeding, turning all media into propaganda and putting every male from 16 to 60 into uniform ( even if only a civilian traffic director ).  That was when typewriter manufactures were making guns and everyone gardened so as to free up food for other countries.  And as I’ve said many times, you can’t throw excess energy and resources at a Total War if you don’t have those resources.  I don’t think it is rocket science on that one.
*
We can’t fight World War Two again because we aren’t the world’s biggest oil producer like we were then.  I’ve also told you that the US experienced Peak Iron Ore in 1959, yet you refuse to believe we could ever have Peak Silver, Peak Gold or Peak Oil.  And in case you kind of missed science, iron ore isn’t exactly scarce.  If we can run out of that, we can run out of anything.  Oh, except Fracking Oil.  That will last forever! ( sarcasm ).  If we cannot duplicate the resource production of WWII, doesn’t it stand to reason we can’t fight that kind of war again?
*
So, what happened?  Why can’t we fight a war and stimulate the economy like we did in World War Two?  Even if our economy could be industrialized again, which it cannot, with little iron ore to build factories, machines or products, and little oil to power all of that, you also need a sound currency to fund all of this economic activity.  And by sound currency, I mean a currency based on a resource that is growing.  The gold supply used to be growing.  We based our currency on that.  Then oil.  But the supply MUST increase.
*
Going by the brilliance of the Crash Course ( which was pure brilliance, but once he became Peak Prosperity I chocked on the bloody stool of optimism that stunk up every page ), of course you need interest to run a successful system and interest can only be paid by growing resources.  Fascism in Italy, or National Socialism in Germany, was an attempt to fund an industrial economy with a national bank.  You had just enough private profit motive to innovate, but enough state control to direct resources towards war.  The Soviet system was another national banking attempt, but there was no motivation.
*
Capitalism rewards the individual for extra work and innovation but allows a bank to divert resources from national interests.  Communism escapes the bankers clutches but offers no rewards.  Fascism avoids both these negative issues, yet nothing is ever free.  If your fascist system cannot grow because your resource base is not increasing, the states needs start eliminating the reward system.  In a capitalist system, the end of resource growth starts diverting the rewards towards the bankers alone.  That is what we are seeing now in our “anything but socialism” system.
*
So, “interest” isn’t as correct of an explanation as “growth” would be.  Under either system, the rewards continue if growth continues.  The strength of the capitalist over the fascist system is that although the price is higher, the system is more resilient to shocks, or growth slow down.  That is why “interest” is more important, only in that it is a more robust system.  That is why capitalist empires run by private banks out perform other types.  The Soviets crashed economically with a LOT of resources still in place.  They were just as efficient as a square wheel in getting and using them.
*
Our currency has been based on oil since 1971.  That is the year our oil production started dropping, but Saudi Arabia had plenty of oil to make up for that pesky problem.  But oil fields are only good for about forty years optimally.  If you screw up the well by overproduction, you get less than forty ( to be clear, the well keeps producing a lot longer than that, but it is only economically viable up to about forty years ).  Not only did 2005 mark about the fortieth year of Saudi main field production, it also saw I’m Oh So Sure just coincidentally the year of CONVENTIONAL peak oil globally.
*
And right after that our housing bubble started to signal trouble ( the Tech Wreck can be blamed on the Russian oil slow down ).  Not JUST because the supply of oil started declining but because the US Dollar is backed by oil.  Growth stopped with the growth of oil.  Any economic system we’ve had for the last five hundred years that was successful was based on growth.  Growth is needed to sustain the economy that powers the empire that growths by wealth and resource extraction.
*
Out-growing the enemy is a strategy as old as the Agricultural Revolution.  Out grow their population for more breeders, more farmers and more soldiers ( that means you grow population until you die, because otherwise your enemies kills you long before that ).  Out grow them economically to have more trade for more war and more population.  It is, quite literally, grow or die.  A binary position ignored by most who think we can survive sustainability.  Gott Damn tree hugging pukes.  Eat a whale dingus!  If you don’t grow, your enemies grow.  Not Einstein levels of genius here.
*
Aaaand, we continue tomorrow.
