I normally don’t write articles “ripped from the headlines”.  They don’t age well, everyone else is doing it and I’m much more specialer.  That said, other subjects inspired by the news is okay.  So let’s tie in the latest school shooting ( as of today’s writing.  I’m sure there will be more by the time I post this in a week ) and how it all ties into the collapse and preparedness.  No, I do NOT believe this was yet again another claim twenty years later for more gun control.  ONCE, twenty years ago, Clinton passed gun control after a school shooting and dozens and dozens of mass shootings later, we still don’t have another episode of new gun control ( only on the local scale, but those commie fecal holes would have used any pretext ).

When do the “pry it out of my cold dead hands” gun freaks give up on this tired scare tactic?  My goodness people, just the thought of gun control doubled or tripled the amount of guns and ammunition in civilian stockpiles.  So the fear mongering is a good thing.  But you need to stop the Chicken Little/Cry Wolf on the national gun control thing, already.  Gun owners accuse gun controllers of using the still warm bodies of gunshot victims for political gain, but you are doing the same riling up the men folk and livestock yourselves.  Not to say gun control won’t be a thing, but school shootings leading to gun control doesn’t seem a high probability after so many years of false alarms.

You don’t even need a scare, other than that of imminent collapse of civilization, to light a fire under your ass to go to your gun store.  Don’t worry if they are going to ban semi-auto’s or not.  Whatever gun you have, go stock up on ammunition reloading components for it.  Have enough for years of guerrilla war, both from the coming civil unrest and nation breakup, crime and post-apocalypse defense.  Then relax.  Take common sense steps to have a hideaway unregistered weapon.  If poor, a pipe gun.  If rich, a pour-your-own AR lower kit and a parts kit ( I say a pour kit rather than 80% receiver since the pour kit allows you to do more than one gun if you so desire ).  You could probably even do it under $400.

So, if it isn’t a tinfoil hat conspiracy to steal your guns, what is going on, besides the continuation of the 1960’s mind control shtick the CIA and other intelligence agencies pioneered?  If there is any effort from that direction, using prescription drugs ( Ritalin and such ) rather than LSD, what is the end game?  I think it is nothing more than job security.  You don’t even need to plan anything.  Kids ( and many grown kids ) love first person shooter video games.  Put them of mood altering drugs at the same time you emasculate them and give them a good high from violence, and what do you think is naturally going to happen?

The drugs are pushed in the interest of doctor money grubbing ( necessary to pay for the insurance and education money grubbing ) and the teachers love a decrease in disruption caused by hormone saturated males ( I’d say teenage males have no business sitting all day “learning”.  Apprentice their asses, already ).  Any violence resulting is welcomed by the LEO and military community.  More crime to pretend to fight ( if we have any time left over from revenue collections on the roads and in asset forfeiture ) and more violent-prone males used to micromanagement.  The CIA?  Well, they just love humping with people for their own use later.

But those are just the direct results.  Don’t forget that cool “divide and conquer” paradigm.  You need everyone fearing everyone else and everyone fighting everyone else for the diminishing spoils of declining empire.  Why would you solve a problem by taking all the guns?  Why not make guns more and more available so more and more people kill each other, spreading the fear?  Let the Darkies get more guns to escalate the Knock Out Game.  Let Whitey arm up and get far more tense, awaiting a gun grab so he becomes defenseless.  Give more and more folks the power to carry concealed so during amateur hour more folks get shot and then the defenseless civilians fear cops and criminals AND the sheepdogs.

Spread fear and discontent.  Let Blacks roam the cities unfettered.  Let Whites turn suburbia into an armed camp.  Just the increased fear and xenophobia and isolation and cultural disintegration alone benefit the elite.  No gun control needed.  What happened the last time there was national gun control?  The country  was flooded with Chinese SKS’s and Russian Mosin-Nagants, all accompanied by cases and cases of steel cased ammunition for each.  Guns flooded in.  I don’t think the point was to control semi-auto guns ( Clinton might have thought so, but the Prez is just a meat puppet ).  I think it was to put a lot more guns on the ground.

Now, what is the takeaway you should have on this “Saint Valentines Massacre”?  Is it to run down and buy more potentially banned semi-autos?  No, dumbass, buy ammo.  That always was and always will be the weak link.  But that isn’t the takeaway.  It is this.  Get.  Out.  Now.  Are these schools being hit every day in the ghetto?  No, they are in WhiteBreadVille.  Your little conehead could be the next victim.  Is “free” daycare so you can both work worth it?  Is being a single mom so liberating you need to put your kid in the crosshair?

But this isn’t JUST about home schooling.  It is about getting out of the urban war zone.  It is about avoiding crowds.  If you need to dump your suburban home and SUV and buy rural junk land and commute an extra hour a day in a rice burner into your city job ( while well armed, it must be reiterated ) so that your child is safe and your wife doesn’t have to work, so be it.  Why is that such a sacrifice?  You are already living in suburbia in a home you can’t afford, to get your child into a better school and avoid ghetto crowds next to your home.  Take it one step further and go from the suburbs to rural.  All that extra property tax you pay for a better school isn’t keeping the gunmen out of there.

Look, the benevolent leaders have already taken your Union job to save on labor by getting everything made in China.  They have already threatened your child by empowering females to leave you on a whim.  Now they are allowing your children to be shot.  They are allowing Blacks to attack you at will.  They are bringing in Muslims to ratchet up the insurgencies.  Who ISN’T trying to hurt or kill you?  Get the hell out of the densest concentration of violence.  Keep your child out of harms way by moving them out of the city.  The wife should accompany the kids.  You can take the money saved on a second car and a higher mortgage and huge taxes and arm yourself and become more self sufficient.

What I am saying is that now isn’t any different.  Shootings, shootings everywhere all the time.  The intensity has ratcheted up, sure.  But what is new is the now obvious delight our rulers are taking in stirring the crap pot faster and faster.  Every time the authorities lie about the shootings or pretty much ignore them after the first few days, the more the legal drug junkies are encouraged to try to reach to new heights of depravity with their own version of going for the Guinness Book Of World Records.  When their life revolves around video games, and hence their life turns into one, the goal is to reach for the highest score amongst all possible gamers.

Napoleon said “never interfere with an enemy while he’s in the process of destroying himself”.  That would probably fit in nicely with Pogo’s “we have met the enemy and he is us” and “our own worst enemy”.  In times of surplus poor leadership isn’t a consideration.  Any leadership helps organize the resource extraction, and mistakes are amply compensated with that surplus.  In times of resource contraction, all we are left with is yesterday’s poor choices coming home to roost, the natural inclination for only poor leaders to exist ( the smart ones see the problem and stay away-and keep that in mind while you wait for darling leadership to save us ) and only a mix of bad choices to pick from.

When all you have is bad leaders, the enemy does nothing BUT engage in the process of destroying himself.  How could you get anything but Amazon, which loses money as a business model-and all the losers from the Enron era invest in that idea, when the entire retail sector was doomed ( there will always be trade and merchants, but we are in an era of baubles for their own sakes )?  How can you have anything but Google and Facebook in an era where advertising is dying ( note to pussy prepper purveyors, your business model is doomed.  For doomers, you would think you’d kind of already realize this ).

We all spend in inordinate amount of time decrying the state of the world, and I can’t deny we simply can’t help ourselves as this is just natural, but you’d better realize it is all mental masturbation.  Things are the way they are because it is systemic,  not because someone chose to do things wrong.  We all rail against the Police State ( the deniers pretend we still have some time to go before it becomes full blown ), giving example after example about how poorly police act, never realizing the police are acting exactly how they are supposed to.  I mean, Hello!

When an organization is being born, there is bloodshed.  Rival warlords fight for dominance.  When that organization is losing power, there is bloodshed.  The system fights to protect itself.  The police are not there to protect and serve citizens.  They are there to preserve order.  In a surplus era, order is preserved with a mere presence.  In a contraction, as more segments lose funding, funding must be forcefully taken.  That is from the law-abiding ( bullcrap high amount tickets are just another tax, and asset forfeiture is a tax on surplus ).  The open warfare aspect is from areas of lost control mixing with those not yet lost.

All this talk about a police state and out of control police assassinations and the like all ignore our state of collapse.  Just as believing electing a Republican can save the Republic ( which is already lost ), believing the police can be reformed is all reality denial.  The Republic was lost long ago and we have the army of occupation which are in fact soldiers rather than LEO’s because we have already lost control of vast areas of territory.  Those LEO’s in lightly populated areas don’t act as well as they do because they are part of the community rather than outside of it, but because the territory is not contested and they are not required to Go Military.

A recent movie out is “Wind River”.  There is minor PC Princess moments which is about par for the course anymore, and the Feel Good motivation for writing the film is marketing BS, but it was a well done film for all that.  My immediate take away from it was that the laws as set up were not some racist reaction to the plight of modern day squaws being raped and killed by Evil White Dudes, but rather exactly how you would structure things to minimize the resources needed to police huge swaths of land.

The jurisdiction distinctions and enforcement limitations pretty much mean that almost no policing gets done.  Boom!  Problem solved on policing umpteen however many thousands of square miles of land.  It is cheaper to throw a little bit of money to the locals for the pretext of law enforcement and then effectively ignore the whole region.  That frees up troops to battle the Blacks in urban areas.  Indian reservations are already triaged areas.  As are the ghetto proper areas.  All our paramilitary does is battle in the areas of the borders, between the ghetto and suburbia.  And if you are in too poor of a White area that is Borderland, you are triaged now also.

The whole “let the enemy destroy himself” is a caution.  A caution to both accept reality as it is rather than the fantasy you want it to remain, and to accept you need to be away from these areas where the state is fighting for control.  As much as I poo-pah the whole “redoubt area is paradise” BS that is troweled on extra thick by economically failing Yuppie Scum Survivalist industry spokespersons, for all the issues ( vast areas soon to meet no transportation fuel, water, dead soil ) at least one thing is going for a lot of Western desert.  The area has been triaged and you will for the most part be left to your own devices.

Don’t fight the system.  Don’t stay in an area that is just going to get worse, don’t be anything other than obsequious to the military personnel occupying your area and shaking you down for extra wages.  Don’t depend on a failing currency or a job soon to be outsourced or eliminated.  Don’t join a paradigm that is being resource stripped by the elite ( college or auto debt, mortgages, etc. ).  The system is already failing.  It has for fifty years.  Now, its decline increases in velocity.  Move out of its way.  Don’t try to stop it.  Let it implode onto itself.  I mean, damn, dude!  You know enough to stay out of shrapnel range, don’t you?  Nuff said.

Yesterday I said I didn’t think anyone was intentionally pushing Gore Warming, as in funding a conspiracy.  I know this will be automatically rejected because everyone has a favorite colored tinfoil cap they love to wear to all the raging parties.  It is Das Jude, he is out to enslave is all! Since rich people are Jews and Jews push for funding for Israel, we are all going to die!  If you would care for my simple explanation for this, it is “other peoples money”.  Nuff said.  Others think Gore Warming is pushed by the One World Rothschild Government.

It is a handy handle, but central banks are only interested in money.  And if you don’t have multiple countries fighting wars, you don’t have government borrowing which is the banks cash ATM.  So how likely is it that bankers want One World Government?  But, but, it is the Commies!  Yeh!  The commies did it.  They want global control.  Really?  Why?  Cause they want our freedoms cause we’re ‘Muricans!  Really?  I mean, seriously?  They already got us under more control than the Stasi ever did.  You tend not to see it due to mostly the propaganda, but also because having an effective police force would cost too much money ( and we know how the elite feel about spending your money on you ).

The FedGov cannot effectively administer one country ( plus, they got stuck with New Jersey as a bonus ), and they want the whole world?  No, they are happy as things stood ( past tense, the systems breaking down ), which was global economic colonization.  Free commodities without much work at all.  It doesn’t make much sense that Gore Warming has an agenda, if only from the lack of results after almost twenty years.  If a few European counties have a carbon tax, it is merely the opportunity to tax something else.  After all, doesn’t everyone here quake in their boots over how socialist we all are?  You know, socialism like having all those Union jobs in Germany or devoting much less GDP to free health care.

If you look at funding and laws from a control standpoint, Political Correctness and Multiculturalism handily beat out Gore Warming.  Sure, the same slimy scumbags like both activities, either worrying about driving too much or buying too many of the wrong light bulbs, or worrying that if woman don’t have the same biological abilities as men the entire world will end.  Never mind they need men to ranch the cattle that go into the feline food cans each Crazy Cat Lady buys everyday.  PC isn’t about logic, it is about control and money.

So when you apply logic to decrying Political Correctness,  who are you trying to convince?  The other members of the choir?  No one cares beyond that, and the practitioners don’t care if they are act crazy all the way to the bank.  PC’ers get all the sweet admin jobs, basically paid to be supervisors.  They don’t have the energy on a vegan diet anyway.  Who gets paid for Gore Warming?  Besides Al, I mean.  All those hacks who bend their science towards the highest bidder ( coffee is bad for you.  Oh, no, wait, the coffee lobby just paid me, okay, coffee is good for you ) all dog piled the bandwagon when the pay looked so good.

All those scientists that we needed after the Soviets launched Sputnik and we were left holding our junk in our hand.  All those scientists we needed to build up that twenty thousand warhead nuclear arsenal.  All those scientists corporations needed to innovate products.  Where did they all go?  Only a few were needed by BigPharma to push poison ( after that sweet victory with fluoride and chlorine, because our industrial waste is for the children, all the easy poisons were dispersed.  Time to discover different ones ).

No government bureaucrat is ever retired before his time, just shifted to another department and given a new prohibition to enforce ( yeh! “Murica!  Land of the free! ).  And scientists need to move on once their pull date has been reached.  Most are not Dr. Evil scientists, but they are mercenaries.  Who pays them has a need and the need has to be met.  If that means playing Evil White Person At University to placate the PC’ers, that is the price to pay for a teaching job.  If they are paid to discover how to make a corporation more money, that is what they will do, regardless of the consequences.  And if they must, they will find Gore Warming even if it doesn’t exist.

Almost makes you wish for the good old days when only a select few went to University ( pre-Vietnam draft ) and the school hardly cost you anything ( pre-all dem PC bitches creating insanely high salary jobs that aren’t needed but which are payoffs to the PC Brigade generals.  Not to worry, they are only taking money away from White Males to create the job ) and as a result you didn’t have to sell your soul to pay off twenty years of student loans.  My daughter borrowed  $60k ( at a state uni ) for a Bachelor’s in criminology.  Who is going to hire for that career?  Da Man.

And why is the government wasting funds on proving Gore Warming?  Why not?  They long ago passed the point their spending made sense.  Didn’t they misplace a billion just in a warlord bribe fund?  Don’t they still spend $600 on a single toilet seat?  The whole point in government spending isn’t to Get Value, it is to bring money into Senators districts.  It would be much cheaper to pay all the re-election campaign costs than to give the politicians home district jobs which is what gets him elected.  Every job is not only a mark on his scorecard, it is a bought and paid for vote.

Yes, your politicians buy one vote at a time at the cost of $30-60k a year salary for a “make-work” job.  Ain’t politics grand?  Some of those jobs are repurposing obsolete NASA workers ( as if we are actually going to Mars, right? ) into Gore Warming workers.  Expanding the weather service.  Giving the EPA more to do.  Hell, I’m sure there is a SWAT team somewhere ready to jump in a multi-million dollar chopper and rush in to kill a polluter somewhere ( the same polluter who already bribed the Congressman to pollute ).

And don’t the bankers just love Gore Warming also.  More government grants, more government jobs, and more government debt which is sweet interest payments to the bankers.  It all be about Da’ Benjamins!

I want to talk about the fallacy of believing in Gore Warming.  I’m not pimping for Global Cooling to replace it.  I’m just warning against irrational belief systems.  This is merely an exercise in critical thinking that will help you in other areas ( which guns to choose, which foods to store, where to live in safety, etc. ).  I’m not saying I can disprove Gore Warming, or prove Solar Cooling.  That would be a damn waste of my time.  The weather is changing, it is going to screw up our food production system, we are the biggest idiots in the world if we think we can change any of that, and you need to prep for change no matter the form it takes.

Look, you know people are already trying to kill you.  Medical hacks with chemotherapy or treating diabetes with the foods that cause it, or even admin heavy hospitals ruining you financially for their job security.  Multicultural warriors importing Muslim militants.  PC advocates giving Black insurgents Get Out Of Jail Free cards.  BigAg corporations feeding you poison.  It stands to reason people will try to kill you in the future.

How?  Who knows?  And who the hell cares?  Everyone will be trying to kill you.  Government civil servants, gang members, fundamentalist religious Jesus Freaks, it doesn’t matter.  So why should it matter what kind of weather is going to kill you?  One or the other will.  Even Gore’s sycophants would be foolish to only plan on hotter weather.  Certainly they also see the need to protect against unseasonable frosts and longer winters at times, simply because the whole climate is getting screwy with the weather.  How hard is it to plan on either/or?

Why are we even wasting time debating about Gore Warming?  All the time, everywhere I go to read about something else, I either have to put up with “Trump is the devil here to ruin everything”, or “it’s all about Gore Warming and we are all going to die”.  I want to say it is misdirection obscuring Peak Oil and overpopulation, and it might well be, but that is an effect, not a policy.  I think the simplest explanation is the correct one.  Gore is a barber who everyone is asking if they need a haircut.

First off, we need to agree that Democrats and Republicans are both sides of the same coin, the Imperial Party.  Elections are Kubuki Theatre.  It doesn’t matter how much elections cost because they are a sight cheaper than revolution.  It is all digitally printed money anyway.  If a corporation gives to a candidate it is tax deductible, and politicians WILL repay them because corporations buy the politician, not the politics.  To say that a corporation funds anti-Gore Warming is true, but no corporation funds politicians against their interests.  Even if a politicians claims to fight against warming, if they got money from an Evil Corporate Anti-Warmer, they are just paying lip service.

Gore is just paying lip service to preventing warming.  If man was able to stop it, which he can’t because American politicians cannot pass Chinese laws and the Chinese are doing all the manufacturing, than Gore wouldn’t WANT to stop it because that is his meal ticket ( I don‘t know how much Warming is factories and how much is autos, but I don‘t know any Gore Warmers who have given up driving ).  The reason the term Gore Warming resonates is because before that idiot threw the election and got paid off, Warming wasn’t the huge deal it pretends to be today.

I don’t know why Gore chose to become the Warming Czar as his price of pretending to give up the election ( Democrats pretending to fight the election gave the illusion there were two parties instead of one ), although I’d guess that it was because it was the low hanging fruit.  Tree huggers might have been pushing the issue for decades but it wasn’t a Public Enemy Number One like it supposedly became.  Why is it still an issue?  Because there are government grants to those that believe in it.  Why does the government push the agenda?  I don’t think that it does.

The government funding different religions has a long history.  The elite a hundred years ago hated Negro’s ( as much as they pretend to love them today ) and funding for eugenics and Planned Parenthood ( abort babies, preferably Black ) had a purpose ( and yes, I’m calling eugenics a religion since it was faith based ).  All the studies “proving” their utility might have been by fanatics, but I’d wager most were just in it for the funding.  They believed in what they were paid to believe, since money was their religion.

What does the elite want today?  It was about control back then, as it is today.  Is it about One World Government or Communism, or Zionism or anything else?  I doubt it.  It is just about money.  A century ago, there was enough surplus to allow for the luxury of social engineering.  Today, I don’t think there is.  I think everything is about money control and everything else is unintended.  To maintain the illusion of control by the voters, the two party system illusion is kept alive and well.  Gore was asked to name his price.

He chose Global Warming.  Perhaps because he is a fat and lazy politician who doesn’t like to work hard and Warming was already a hobby horse he was familiar with.  It was Voter Hallucination Drugs, just like all the other issues.  Gore saw how dopey eyed Democrats and ilk ( commies, socialists, etc ) loved to hug trees and picked a underutilized underexploited field to make political hay off of.  Then it turned into a cash cow when his lack of political career endangered his wallet.

If there was no Al Gore, would there ever have been Global Warming?  Remember, we don’t solve problems.  We solve perceptions of problems.  Just because we no longer irradiate the population while setting our rivers afire doesn’t mean there is no pollution.  There is just an illusion of no pollution ( even as there are those fighting the obvious pollutants, they are ignored since Warming is getting all the grants ).  As there is an illusion of Warming.  It is only a problem because the profit seekers decide it is a problem.  Whether it is or not is immaterial.  It is merely payola and graft showing up.  Continued tomorrow.

LEATHER FACE

When was the last time you went to learn a new skill and ended up saving money?  Never, right?  It used to be, when there was actually a sense of community and walkable neighborhoods ( and correspondingly we weren’t a bunch of bitter loners ), a buddy or friend got with you and you bought him a six pack and he apprenticed you.  That was how I learned how to do bike mechanics ( single speed only-all the gears and sprockets and cables and pads and derailers on multispeeds still confuse the hell out of me ).

That is how I learned how to disassemble various firearms.  Hey, I make NO claims to having any aptitude towards mechanical movement.  As embarrassing as that was, it is about par for the course.  Now I’m pretty good with a lot of stuff like that, doing a lot of repairs on the apartments, but it wasn’t a natural fit for me.  So, when it came to leather work, I SHOULD have been less reluctant to learn.  I had some experience when I was a wee lad, although it was doing everything ass backwards as it turned out.  I was just following my lifetime reluctance to learn repairs.

I’d be the last person to tell you learning them wasn’t very useful.  It is amazing the money you can save and the independence you gain for even the most fundamental DIY skills.  I just haven’t overcome my long standing reluctance to understand that even as I’ve learned it ( “I know you’re listening to me, but you aren’t hearing me” ).  I had wanted to learn leather crafting, but as I had about two projects I wanted to undertake, I kept putting off doing so.  It seemed a lot of effort for a knife sheath ( OMG, Becky, a minion sent me the sweetest knife ever as a gift, and it needed a sheath ) and a bayonet frog.

For those who have mistakenly believed semi-auto is a suitable substitute for a bayonet ( all those Alibi Ike’s using every excuse in the book to deny the greatness of military bolt action guns are now out of luck as the reasonable prices dried up and everything is collector grade price, even for the crap ), you may not understand what a bayonet frog is.  It is simply the attachment on your belt that holds the bayonet sheath.  I kept putting off getting one because the price was a bit too high, and I kept putting off making one because I had no leather working tools.

Slowly but surely over the last year I bought in onesies and twosies the necessary tools.  Yes, I know, if I had not bought a few books I could have done this long ago.  In my defense, almost nothing gets in the way of books.  I eat less delicious foods in favor of buying books.  Well, I did.  As I just explained I’ve finally cut that amount way down so as to put away the last bit of saving I can before the economy implodes.  What I’m doing today is sharing this experience with you so you understand that I wasted a lot of money on tools and leather trying to learn this skill.

Why, oh why, might you ask, should I give a care about leather working?  The raw material cost is so high it almost seems insane to pursue the craft.  A strip of leather for a belt is $15.  A one foot by one and a half foot square of stiff leather is $20.  The only reason I care is that on principle I hate canvas and I absolutely loathe that melt and form plastic nonsense.  Leather is a functional old-timey craft we’ll need to return to soon enough ( canvas uses cropland, cows eat grass on land unable to grow human food-you do the math ).

Now, before I begin, PLEASE do not even remotely think what I’m going to tell you is a tutorial on leather working.  It isn’t.  I leave out a lot of tools and material that can make other leather items.  This is just my experience with an introduction,  one project leather working.  I don’t cover the other needed items like rivets or quality longer lasting techniques.  What you can take away from this is how easy it is to get started.  As in one fifth of my costs.  You won’t make anything pretty-it is not suitable to turn you into a master so as to give leather gifts  or charge money for your items.  But it will churn out some functional items.

A bayonet frog is, essentially, two strips of leather joined in two loops.  The first vertical loop is to rest the frog on your belt.  The horizontal loop attaches to the front of the first loop and holds the sheath.  I started with this project first for its simplicity ( and I only started anyway since I got my everyday combat carry belt-which was replacing my inadequate M1 Garand style ammo belt-assembled and the lack of the frog became glaring.  As per a previous discussion, my “always on” belt contains a knife, two cartridge pouches and a bayonet, and that is it.  I don’t believe in carrying the kitchen sink just because I might need it ).

I had a brain fart and realized I didn’t even need all that expensive leather I had bought.  I had screwed up and got too thin of leather ( basically, for clothing ) and I hated to use a significant portion of my stiff leather, as this was a training project.  Luckily, I had not thrown away an old pair of leather combat boots ( unfortunately, I HAD tossed several pairs of cowboy boots with fake lowers but real leather uppers ).  The boots were SOOOO comfortable and only $55, but the bottoms wore down in less than a year and they were worthless.  I only accidentally saved them as I put them with other items and stashed the box.

So, I don’t know how long it took to tear apart the stitching of the boots and reclaim the leather sides, but the whole project did take three plus hours.  Just to stitch two loops of leather together.  That is ridiculously long for what I did, but I did learn to sew leather, and I got free leather to do so.  And for Amateur Hour, the frog turned out looking pretty sharp ( the boot leather seemed thick enough but the frog ended up drooping under the weight of the bayonet.  I took a long boot lace and looped it around the frog and the web gear belt, stiffening it and fastening it to the belt so it doesn’t slide.  It looks ugly now, but perhaps I’ll need some emergency cord one day ).

To make up for the too thin leather, no rivets and no glue, I just double stitched everything.  The leather sewing awl turned out to be useless, since the needle kept popping out pulling the needle back through, so I just used the needle by itself.  Make sure to order “leather sewing awl needles” and not just plain “leather needles”.  The awl type has the hole on the bottom rather than the top.  $5 for a set.  To make using the needles easy, I used a “drillable awl”.  Think a thin screwdriver with the tip a point.

I just took a rubber mallet and beat the wooden handle to drive the steel through both leather pieces and then you don’t have to fight too hard to push the needle through ( mallet, $7 and awl $8 for a set ).  I just set the needle in the smaller hole and pushed the leather against the needle which had its back on the cutting board.  Pulling it back out was a bit of work.  The thread was easy.  I ordered a “284 yard leather sewing waxed thread” unit for a ridiculously low $4 with free shipping.  Caution, it took two months on the slow boat from China.

For a knife, you want the “skiving knife”, $9.  It works so much better than an X-Acto knife.  No aching fingers and just sharpening rather than replacing.  I did have a “lacing chisel set” but those were worthless.  They did poorly punching through and I just ended up using them as a placement guide for the stitching ( they have a tool for that, looks like a wheel like on a cowboy’s spurs ). All In all, I only needed $30 in tools for plain, cut and sew only projects ( yes, I know you need to score the stitch line.  I didn‘t. It was blindly attempt this or forever wait for all the perfect tools necessary ).  And you can even use the mallet on other items like your bullet puller.

note: okay, I know you guys can help.  I ordered two AR-15 books, as a reference for later if I get battlefield find AR's.  Or if I need to build my own.  You look at the pictures of kits for sale and see dozens of springs for the lower.  I look in both those books and see nothing about assembling all these tiny parts.  Am I blind, or do the books suck?  They are Gunsmithing The AR http://amzn.to/2BAyi7B and the other is Build Your Own AR-15 Rifle http://amzn.to/2Hnn4Ue .  I want a paper reference, not a DVD or YouTube videos.  Any suggestions?  I'd appreciate your gun nerd knowledge.

The only good thing about getting old is that all your problems ( besides health related ) start going away.  Trouble in the marriage bed?  No problems, that sex drive keeps diminishing ( I can’t believe anyone sees that as a curse when it is such a blessing to remove the Little Head from the decision making loop ).  Trouble in your career?  No problem, retirement or death is just around the corner?  Hate people?  No problem, they are all beginning to die off.  Having a hard time prepping for the fast approaching apocalypse?

No problem, every day closer to death is one less day of supplies you need to stockpile.  When you are twenty, stockpiling another four decades of supplies is not literally but Damn Skippy close to impossible.  When you are fifty?  No problem.  And hell, by that time you don’t even have to worry about variety all that much.  Your health requires more wheat and less fat and protein anyway.  That is just a bonus.  When you are young, stockpiling is an uphill battle both because of the volume but because you have education and investments battling for your limited wages.

By the time you are older, those are no longer worries ( if you are paying rent past fifty years of age you did something very, very wrong.  If you were a dumb ass or had a bad string of luck, you can still provide a home with a less than thirty year mortgage.  You just need to compromise a bit.  Seriously, if your investments in reducing your needed income are not made prior to the advent of old age, you need to radically reprioritize and go into emergency mode ).

Since health starts to become such an issue, the only good thing about age becomes the fact it is the end of the journey.  Not because of the sweet release of death ( although there is that also ) but because everything has gotten easier and less of a trial.  You’ve made the mistakes, rectified them, moved on and done things better.  That is what the Golden Years are about.  Not health-wise.  The payoff for the work already done.  AND, as important, the increased ease of everything that used to be so difficult.  Your job becomes easier, even if you don’t have much retirement, because you cease to NEED a job.  That is why you got rid of the debt and reduced your needs-for Hump You savings ( NOT earnings.  Less money is going to the 90% and far more to the 1% the 9% is seeing the implosion of their ill gotten gains as the elite went from plundering the middle class in 2008 to plundering the straw bosses in 2018.  To win now, you need LESS money, not more ).

When I was a young lad working almost entirely for the pleasure of the ex-wife and the taxman, child support was a pretty onerous burden.  One sixth of my gross based on an unusually well paid job quickly turned into one third of my normal wages ( add in another third in taxes and I was seeing over a decade of only bringing home 25-35% of my wages ).  The last quarter of those years were not nearly so bad, as I both moved out to junk land ( one quarter the price of trailer rent on grid ) and minimum wages had increased and I no longer had work offered health insurance I was mandated to provide for my kids ( it was merely punitive, as they lived out of the coverage area AND had government provided care anyway ).

Not only that, but every year closer to that end of support, the closer to early payoff I was getting.  If I became unemployed ( not an inconceivable prospect as the job always involved fighting with management to get anything done, plus obviously the economy of ’08/’09+ ), I would still need to pay off the ex.  The divorce papers ( or the taxman, or the bank officer ) could care less about your abilities to pay.  They want their money, regardless.  I would have needed to pay off the bitch with savings and asset liquidation.  So every month got closer to going from insolvent to debt free.  That is how your preparedness stockpile works.  Every day past means one less days worth of calories you need in the future, as you get closer to death.

That is what I mean by your impending demise being The Only Good Thing.  That is less money you need in savings and less food you need in storage ( yes, I know the timing on death is variable.  I just look at the average of about sixty being, once again, about right ( prior to modern medicine, if you survived childhood and war you usually got to about that age.  The “new” expectation above that is both non-historical, illogical and frankly, not all that desirable ).  Just as every day closer to the end of compulsory public reeducation became a lighter and easier burden, so does death.

You might be worried about the apocalypse becoming a non-event ( as if! ).  Okay, anything is possible.  Does the prospect of dying and having no one to leave your supplies to worry you?  I’ll probably cover that another time.  My guess though is that is merely a philosophical issue.  A near non-event as far as stress is concerned.  Why should you care?  Hell, you’ll be dead.  I know I really need to get my ass down to the funeral home and see about buying a basic cremation package, but I’m really assuming the collapse happens before I need to worry about dying of natural causes.

Plus, what do I care?  My corpse is someone else’s problem ( and not necessarily the NOL’s.  She knows where all my savings is, as well as my ATM code.  Do I worry about that?  No.  She is the only wife I completely trusted since the Baby Momma.  Could that bit my ass?  Sure.  Do I care?  Not really.  I’m almost dead-I’m caring about very little at this point ).  Recalling a recent discussion on plastic buckets for wheat, I was thinking back on the last time I bought any buckets.  Five years ago or nearbouts.  I received free bakery buckets, but I’ve bought none to very few.  I recently took advantage of lower wheat prices and half assed got more bags, but I’ve long past stopped stressing about storage food.

Part of no longer giving a crap is my expectation of dying within a decade.  Part is having reduced my worry through prior investment.  I really hope all of you are at the same point in your life.  Isn’t it nice to stress just a little bit less every day?  If not, hump you.  It is your own damn fault for refusing to change, adapt and overcome.
