call it retirement 1 of 2

CALL IT RETIREMENT

Over the years-or at least the last twenty or twenty five

years or so, after guys got all pussy whipped and worthless- the subject of talking your spouse into allowing room in the budget for prepping has been a hot topic.  I wrote a book on it, Survival Divorce, where after embarrassing personal experience I can attest to the effectiveness of combining frugal preparations with leaving stupid dumb bitches who would rather have you and the children die rather than reduce her living standard now ( if she still had her looks she could always pimp herself out to the new warlord on the block-an ancient female survival mechanism.  Hey, don’t take it personally.  You were, maybe, only her baby daddy.  Not her red hot lover.  Maybe, because something like up to a quarter of offspring are the product of cuckolding ).  And no, it wasn’t like I was the smart and strong one who left her.  She took the kids and left.  But it was a very expensive lesson I did learn well.

*

Alas, I understand not all of you can leave the testicle wearing wife ( you think you have it bad, after the wife castrated you and pickled your balls and put them on the mantelpiece for you to gaze forlornly upon?  Put yourself in Barry The Kenyan Golfers shoes.  Think about having to service that transvestite fugly bastard.  Even if you float that way.  You know she definitely wears the pants in that family ).  Until the kids are old enough, your punk ass bitch life is owned.  I say, leave the bitch anyway and suffer the pay cut.  As if it was a paycut.  You went from earning $25 k a year and seeing nothing but room and board to seeing 55% going to the ex.  Subtract taxes to get whatever is left over.  Usually not enough for even a loft apartment and Top Ramen for dinner every night.  If you figure out how to get your rent down, perhaps living in your car and showering at the gym, you have actual prep money left over.  I get it, $400 a month gross budget might not seem to be worth leaving the wife.  Ah, newsflash dude, a wife like that?  Worth giving up 80% of your pay anyway, no matter what the motivation.  The kids will eventually get old enough to free you from the Ex Wife Tax.  The alternative is wasting your life supporting a user and a hater.

*

But what if you don’t want to leave?  Like, she is okay in all aspects except she refuses to see that all empires implode and we are, with hundreds of military bases around the world and free oil for Treasury Bonds, obviously an empire.  She thinks ethanol is a beneficial additive to gasoline rather than a desperate attempt at stretching out our dwindling oil supply by starving the middle east peasants of corn.  She has a nice rack and is a pleasant conversationalist.  Whatever.  I won’t judge, not after four wives under my belt ( of course, I learned after wife #2 that all new Old Ladies could accept my prepping or piss off, no discussion.  I have never again lived in abject fear of being nuked [ as the collapse of the Soviet Union unfolded, there were some concerns that a nuclear exchange could have been initiated by the Politburo as a desperate Hail Mary ] without at least some hope of supplies being of some use.  Not that I used that scare wisely.  I have no dosimeter or similar equipment.  The point is, if I take THAT scare seriously again, I’ll have the option of responding because I no longer picked the wrong domestic partner ).

*

The point here is that whatever you are doing, leaving the old spouse and planning your sales pitch for the new one, or first starting out on selling the prepping idea to the spouse, or possibly but I’m unsure how well a change in arguments will work, switching from doom and gloom to another plea to persuade your wife that preps are a good idea, you might want to think about forgetting the Civilization Collapse Scenario and switch over to the Stockpiling For A Diminished Financial Capacity During Retirement Scenario ( heretofore henceforth referred to as just “retirement” ).  No wife wants to hear about civilization collapse.  She worked hard at getting this perfect house, and there is no way she wants to believe that millions of restless urban ghetto dwellers shall overrun it in search of another SNAP card that actually works after the lights go out.  Look at it from a females point of view.  These are the bitches that literally starve themselves to achieve the perceived perfect weight and body shape.  They smoke to suppress their appetite.  They stay in perpetual debt to have nice clothes and a nice car and a nice house in a nice location with nice looking children.  To her, it is all about hen pecking order placement, or even just belonging to a pack of hens.  It is all about appearances.  This is hardwired, not optional.

*

Guys will also seek to belong.  We pick a perceived leader and as long as he is worthy, will follow his leadership.  He just needs to prove himself.  And there is your difference.  Guys are performance orientated, girls are societal orientated.  A guy at work will bust his ass, and if he has a girl boss he is not perceived as an adequate worker.  He has no time to ingrain himself in with the group as he is too busy actually doing something.  Bitches perform a needed and important role in groups, they just don’t belong in the workplace where relationships are less important than task completion.  But, to end that digression, the point is that gals don’t think in terms of planning for the future as well as guys ( and to my female minions, who you know I love more than the rest because you have the courage to go against the norm, you do understand I’m speaking in generalities here-there are always exceptions to prove the rule ).

*

Well, I should say they don’t plan for non-group approved futures.  College is okay.  You must be perceived a better mother who wants the best for her spawn, so college planning by kindergarten is acceptable.  You wonder why all those soccer moms running around as a taxi service do it?  Is it love?  Or is it her gaining group bonus points?  Anyway, planning for the apocalypse, outside of Mormons who are given the dictate by the church to procreate wildly, earn more money so their tithe is increased ( and so they can earn even more money for more kids so more future LDS dues payers are ready and waiting to fill their roles-and, no, Virginia, I’m not hating on the Mormons who just took a page out of the Papists rulebook ) and more importantly for our discussion here, prep for the apocalypse, no other female is likely to have prepping on the approved plan list by her hen flock.  More tomorrow.

throw her under the bus 2 of 2

THROW HER UNDER THE BUS 2
*
note: a "sweet medicine easy to swallow" for family members you are trying to convert to the dark side, try Netflix show "Containment".  Full of things you would never do during a plague, but consider it "prepper lite".
*
Now, I’m not saying that electronic voter fraud is impossible.  It is possible and I’m sure, where applicable, applied.  What I am saying, is that the entire national electron probably isn’t going to ever see fixing the e-vote in its entirety.  If that was the case, as I should have seen before this, then any and all party’s and candidates would have been allowed, to give a better illusion of citizen participation.  Because the two party system is rigidly adhered to, more likely than not the act of rigging the vote must reside within that structure.  As already stated, the best way to do that is to limit access to who is allowed to run.  Then, all your elites throw money at the approved two candidates and whichever one wins, you still retain control.  The media might seem to have a left wing slant, but a few corporations own all of the Mainstream Media, so you can bet they would do nothing to upset their profits.  Everyone squawks about the media being socialist and politically correct.  As if.  Socialism isn’t good for the bottom corporate line.  Look a bit deeper.

*

Now, really, it doesn’t matter HOW the elites decide who wins elections.  You know, I know, and Ross Perot knows that anymore the President is a puppet.  The men behind the throne make all the decisions.  The purpose behind this thought exercise is to ascertain the method of vote rigging to point to the fact that we might be blinding ourselves with fear over a mostly dumb and blind apparatus.   If the government is controlling our voting machines, why, then they can almost do anything.  Right?  We really place far too much faith in our electronic entertainment machines.  That faith is used against us.  The American Police State based on the worlds largest incarceration rate ( higher than the Soviets ) and the War On Terrorism does not seem to strike fear in the hearts of the serfs as much as the Complete And Total Surveillance State ( with drone backup to supplement grid areas ).  To hide from reality, most folks eagerly embrace the Electronic Bubble Fantasy Land and don’t wish to be forcibly removed from it.  They follow the dictates of their Uber Federale Leaders willingly as long as the entertainment never stops.  Most people don’t care everything they do is recorded because deep down they know their lives are THAT incredibly dull.  Any FBI agent looking into anyone most likely would suffer a boredom induced embolism.

*

Those that care about the surveillance are outcasts and rejects.  The whole point in marginalizing preppers is probably to reinforce the cultural stigma against those refusing to live in The Matrix.  If you don’t surrender your privacy and embrace Facebook, you are not one of us!  But, the Surveillance State actually being used for anything other than a few high profile cases?  Probably not.  Remember, all LEO’s are over educated, over paid and seriously under worked ( not to say their stress levels are not through the roof.  Try working for politicians hiding behind a badge, working under impossibly conflicting directives and see how you like it ).  This is most likely deliberate.  Just as Hitler handicapped dissenters cooperation, our police have seen one blockade after another placed before them, the more so the more centralized our government has become, probably as a form of de-fanging them so they pose little threat.  You want an inefficient armed force?  Make them PC heavy college educated, burdened with female coworkers, out of shape from mechanized transport.

*

The Police State is over hyped.   It can make your life a living hell, but only a few people at a time.  It poses very little threat to the bulk of the populace.  Who are busy conforming to Big Brothers dictates as they live vicariously through electronics.  As some wag recently wrote, they have their Soma ( Brave New World ).  In a way, the police have little effect.  But in another way, there are far fewer dissidents they need to keep an eye on ( the Federal police.  Local LEO’s are busy containing the ghetto wars.  The good news is that FLEA’s [ federal law enforcement agents ] are completely worthless compared to locals, who have actual combat experience.  FLEA’s are like the prettily dressed SS Officers who rely on terror to do all their work for them.  And like the SS, are the crème of the toilet, not the pail of milk ).

*

Another reason, perhaps the biggest one, to give less credence to the power of the police state, is that recently it has become just as bureaucratic as the Nazi Empire.  Again, if it sets its sites on you, you have few options other than to kiss your ass goodbye ( if you have time to flee, head for the wilds.  Like Yuppie Survivalists, FLEAS are so accustomed to luxury and privilege that the very thought of deprivation sends their testicles retracting into their body cavity-if you make them work at hunting you they are not nearly as effective ).  But otherwise it is close to impotent due to its very nature unable to innovate or make career unfriendly decisions.  One almost wonders if such a burdensome bloated organization is capable of directing assorted and varied voting districts towards any kind of voter fraud.  As long as voting stays decentralized, we have less to fear.  The political party’s are organized along bureaucratic lines, however, and are easily controlled.  As is media concentration.

*

Centralized organizations look fearsome and all-powerful, and almost no thanks can be given to the prepper community for doing anything other than reinforcing our fear of same ( if it bleeds it leads, and every two bit overeducated moron with a keyboard looking to cash in on the fears and worries of chumps and marks fans the flames of Fear Porn and masquerades it as Survivalism Expertise ).  But once their fuel is gone-and the fuel of all empires is surplus energy in any form-their very organization makes them vulnerable.

*

Who is going to win tonight?  Who cares.  It isn’t as important as you think, because the same people in charge yesterday will still be behind the throne tomorrow.  But hopefully there is a bit more understanding how The Man Behind The Curtain really works.

throw her under the bus 1 of 2

THROW HER UNDER THE BUS

Even though I spend hours a day on the Internet ( not counting the evening Netflix as the NOL has a nice smart TV so we don’t have to watch our shows on a laptop-yes, I know it is still technically using the Internet, but… ), I don’t visit a whole lot of survival themed sites.  Daily, about a half dozen.  Throw in the once a week posters and maybe a dozen total.  For one thing, I’d rather be reading a book.  For another, a lot of time gets taken up responding to comments.  That is NOT a bad thing as I get most of my article ideas from interacting with my readers.  I don’t mind doing it, it just leaves less time for other sites ( and, okay, there is the book shopping at Amazon ).  And for the last thing, after a time if I don’t agree with the basic philosophy of the author I eventually drop the site as a regular.  Case in point is George Ure over at Urban Survival.  Great writer, great stuff over there.  But he is too influenced by the Elliot Wave economics.  Over the decades I’ve come to disregard this theory for others, and any analysis regardless of skill or soothing/amusing prose based on a rejected theory is, in short, a waste of my time.  Not to say I’m right and he is wrong.  Just that if I don’t agree with the underlying rationale of his reasoning it doesn’t make sense to follow him.  And yes, I understand the danger of not covering views other than my own.  Hey, I said I’m short on time.

*

But here is the other side of that coin.  If I agree with the basics of the author, and he holds a particular idea I reject, I have to look around and think perhaps in that particular instance, I might be wrong.  The website Of Two Minds is one of my regulars.  And he is a big proponent of Fighting Factions in the elite.  I never agreed with this, but that is mostly because I tied my horse to the “evil Federal Reserve Bank runs the country” paradigm a long time ago.  I still think that is fundamentally correct, but I was clinging so tightly to that explanation that I am unable to account for all problems that occur.  One being, this election tomorrow ( as usual, I write exactly one week prior to publication, so there is a lot of time between now and then for events to unfold.  Just keep in mind I’m writing this on Halloween ).  Since my stock answer to voting, formed right after the second Bill Clinton election, is that it is a waste of time due to the vote being rigged, I might have been missing some of the answer I think I already have.

*

So here is my newest, tentative only, theory on voting in America.  It is rigged, after a fashion.  Not as I had envisioned, as in the electronic voting machine preprogrammed with the desired answer, but something a lot lower tech than that.  Just the political parties are controlled, to limit access, and the only candidates allowed to access must be pre-approved.  So, usually ( but the unusual is where the rubber meets the road ), no matter who the hapless voters pull the lever for, the established elite always win.  Now, here is my reasoning ( in a long and convoluted manner as is usual ).  Think back to the last, real, advancement in our society/economy.  It was the 1950’s and ‘60’s when the microchip was nudged into creation by government ( military/industrial complex government ) funding.  Bell Labs would not have had the resources to pursue the replacement of vacuum tubes without both a government granted monopoly and DARPA dudes ( or their predecessors, I’m a bit vague on when that agency was founded-not that it matters, just as the difference between the OSS and the CIA is largely only one of labeling ) encouraging the financing of key personnel.

*

You really can claim that nothing new has come along since Peak Oil in 1971 in this country.  Not only did the Space Race peter out and die ingloriously, so did all innovation and advancement.  The personal home computer in the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s was not innovative technology, merely innovative thinking and organization.  And the only reason THAT happened was because for a small window in time the large scale businesses that had dominated this country economically failed to see through their initial creation ( being staid centralized top down organizations ).  For a time, one person in a garage COULD build a better mousetrap.  Of course, the big elites pushed back on that and closed that loophole through the financialization of the economy ( Ronny, dude, I loved you, but that was all on your watch ).  Our elites, contrary to my imaginings, are really not all that very clever or smart.

*

They are bureaucrats.  Business and other elites that run this bitch all work on the 1880’s model of robber barons.  Also, they were trained in the Prussian model of governance.  They haven’t changed their organizational structure for nearly 150 years.  Now, here is the thing about bureaucracy.  It is a highly efficient way to run things…on the way UP in an empire.  During the DOWNSIDE, that way of organization hurts rather than helps.  Mainly because an embedded amount of energy is needed to run any organization and when the Go To solution to any problem is to add more layers of bureaucracy ( because it did solve problems previously, and the one thing a bureaucrat is incapable of doing is to chance how he does things [ an organizational man does not fight the organization ] ) during a shortage of energy-pretty much the very definition of a failing empire-you have a deficit in energy flow towards problem solving.  This is why you had a handful of men orchestrating the construction of the Hoover dam ahead of schedule, whereas ten times their number cannot accomplish anything, at ten times the price, other than have more meetings about the problem.  The bureaucracy has grown past the point of usefulness.

*

The same problem we now experience haunted that other Prussian organization, the Nazi’s.  The only reason they could have even hoped to have won the war ( it was really a toss up the first few years ) was because they were operating off the imbedded legacy system of the Kaisers and the businesses they had supported.  The Nazi’s, more likely than not as a system of checks and balances to help Herr Hitler retain power,  was so insanely bureaucratic that it was a minor miracle anything got done.  So, if the US has this same legacy, it only makes sense that the way to fix the vote now is the same as it was a hundred years ago ( if our technological prowess peaked nearly sixty years ago, it is no stretch to assume the way we organized that accomplishment is far older than that ).  More tomorrow.

armor up? 2 of 2

ARMOR UP 2

Usually the scenario being used to justify body armor is taken from fiction.  The fed dudes attack at 3am ( just as they were taught by the Soviet KGB-but we are in the land of the free so of course it is not the same thing at all ) and our chiseled chin all American hero is awoken by his faithful companion Sparky who would have barked a bit earlier but he was busy being nose deep in his ass getting an early morning snack-but, you know, whatever dude because dogs are still better than electronics-and after leaping from bed he quickly dons his body armor and grabs his All-‘Murican M14 with night vision device to battle his evil nemesis’( I can’t for the life of me remember which militia porn novel that was from ).  I think that the above is more of a cautionary tale about living in a typical suburban house than it is about needing armor.  If you are that worried the Feds are going to shoot you in bed, I’d be armoring the house a heck of a lot better, not my scrawny ass.  Cement and rebar filled cinderblock, bars ( and heavy duty screen for grenades ) on the windows and a steel door with sufficient anchors and steel bar levels isn’t as cheap as a vest, but it sure isn’t a terrible investment either.  Hell, you need that just to live in NYC or L.A. right now anyway.

*

Here is another aspect of wearing a vest I’d be concerned about.  It is a huge blinking sign saying. “please, Sir, may I ‘ave another round in me face?”.  It is all well and good to envision wearing armor at home or behind barricades, but if a breech does occur, are you sure you want to advertise that your assailant should shoot you in the head?  Again, if you are wearing thin enough armor to be concealed, it will mostly just stop pistol rounds.  Which is great for a cop, but in a more war-like setting, everyone is going to be armed with more than a mere pistol.  If you and your enemies are ONLY using pistols because of their concealability, that means you are in a criminal or terrorist situation, but not a real shooting war.  And I am talking about war here, not the others.  Survivalists are going to see war, not a revolution or a police action ( I seriously hope you don’t live in a crime zone or plan on being in a situation you can’t run away from if the alleged terrorists attack-and I say “alleged” because I’m convinced they are all false flag attacks sponsored by nation state intelligence agencies.  Again, fiction loves those rural/small town attacks to showcase vulnerability, but historically state sponsored terrorism doesn’t work that way ).  War means shotguns and carbines and thin armor doesn’t do jack against them at close range.  So if you wear a “real” rifle stopper, they can see it.

*

Proponents of armor also point to studies showing cloth headgear wearing troops suffering something like 600% increases in shrapnel injuries, used to justify the issuance of, at first, metal and then Kevlar helmets.  Then the TactiCool preppers buy their own brain buckets in an orgy of military worship and think they are now indestructible.  We’ll ignore the difference between flack jackets and bullet proof jackets for now.  This brings us full circle back to the mobility and effectiveness aspects.  It also points out the use of statistics to justify actions to solve a different problem.  Helmets are named brain buckets for a reason.  The troops who actually see combat are not the same personnel that approve issued equipment.  Two thirds of your head are still exposed, so a helmet lost the same utility after WWI as a bayonet did.  They are good for sticking your head up in a trench while under artillery barrage and not much else.  In the open, they are good containers for the remains of your exploded head and face.  Don’t confuse helmets with vests and don’t confuse shrapnel with bullets.

*

The last aspect of vests are the financial.  It is all well and good to say your life is worth $300 ( or whatever amount-it can go up to $3k as you justify a thirty caliber battle rifle with night vision ).  Is your life worth $300k?  Evidently not because you won’t leave your McMansion smack dab in the middle of an urban sprawl of millions.  But I shan’t digress there again.  No, I’m merely saying that being poor and frugal, shouldn’t you be thinking of taking your very limited prepper budget and doing something smarter with it?  $300 of wheat is almost three years worth of calories.  Don’t you think the odds of running out of food are greater than the odds of an overrated piece of equipment being able to save you ( remember, in the movies an armor wearing combatant manfully “shakes it off” and continues on.  In a lot of cases, in real life, a hospital is needed to go along with that vest )?

*

$300 won’t buy a whole lot of ammunition anymore, granted, but isn’t more ammo likely to come in much more handy than a vest that may or may not work as advertised?  I think your family is better off with more food and more ammunition to fight back with, rather than a magical talisman to protect them as they passively cower.  The food can give them strength to shoot more ammo at the assailants PRIOR to getting shot.  Now, having said all that, you might think no price is too high to pay to increase your survival odds.  I can’t say much against that.  If you are financially in a position to spend the money on what you perceive to be a needed piece of equipment, it might help and most likely couldn’t hurt ( just don’t get pissy with me if it gets you shot in the face ), so why not?  But if you are pinching pennies and watching your spending, I’d call this one over rated.  I certainly don’t own a vest, nor do I seem to covet one no matter how much war gamming I do.  But of course, to each his own.

armor up? 1 of 2

ARMOR UP?
*
note: a good movie unto itself, an added bonus is Enfield Love.  On Netflix, "The Siege Of Jadotville".
*
Today’s Question Of The Ages is, “should I even consider wearing body armor”.  I’m going to carefully go over every aspect of that question, use logic and common sense, and then I expect that every one of you will just ignore everything I wrote and do as you please anyway.  Well, that does suck, but it comes as little surprise as I’m sure that is what you normally do.  If the only thing I do is to get one or two of you thinking in another direction, I’ll consider my time far from wasted.  My short answer is No.  Here is a longer version.  Whenever I think of body armor, I envision the crème de le crème of the French aristocracy laying in a layer of mud filled with arrows like pin cushions.  They had so much armor on ( as well as their horses ) that mobility was sacrificed for safety and in the end they just made fabulous targets for the English bowmen.  And yes, I understand that this instance was a bit of a fluke.  The mud was especially bad that day-tactically they shouldn’t have engaged.  You can’t discount armor because in one case it was counter-productive.  I’m only saying that this particular vision is always what answers my query on wearing bullet protection.

*

Now, PLEASE keep your Hello Kitty bikini underwear from bunching.  I understand the many and varied nuances of body armor.  In a stationary position in a less than tropical climate they might have some utility for the reserve personnel.  Nobody wants to come home to find their wife looking like pink Swiss cheese if a simple couple hundred dollar investment could have saved her life.  But that is little more than an emotional argument.  Let’s start from the beginning with combat utility then move our way to defending your family members.  First off, this is an Oil Age piece of equipment.  Once abused and used, shot up and soaked with so much sweat it has become useless, the armor probably won’t be replaced.  Kevlar is an industrial material, not a cottage craft one.  You might think this is okay, since the bullets will also pretty much be gone by then, but I have my doubts.  Okay, you say, I just need it to save my life once and then it will be worth any price.  Yeh, about that.

*

There are a lot of things you should be doing to save your life in the near future, but you aren’t, are you?  You still live in the suburbs near millions of people.  You still work at a high stress job despite what it is doing to your health, even though you know money will soon be worthless.  You should be storing a lot more food than you are.  You should be more worried about ammo stocks than buying yet another semi-automatic, but you are using Hillary’s election as an excuse to do that, aren’t you?  In short, not having a bullet resistant vest is really the least of your problems.  You need a lifestyle change, not another Tommy Tactical Tool.  Just like all the other optional tools we talk about here, body armor is just another piece of equipment slowing you down.  You are a French knight stuck in the mud.  A mule with a bulls eye.  Remember, military personnel are merely cannon fodder.  You think they are making armor mandatory to save a troopers life?  No, not a chance.  They are so short on personnel they are trying to wring out some more combat time on the ones they have-the armor keeps you going longer until you finally die another way as you lumber along slowly under too much weight.

*

Why are you looking at our military as inspiration?  The same idiots that want to put females in combat?  The same jag-offs that spend a hundred billion on a ship that a three million dollar missile can mess up?  You want to look at the winners, not the losers.  Who won a war against both the Soviet Union and the USA?  Little Afghan dudes.  And they are extreme light infantry.  They don’t ask how many kitchen sinks they should be bringing to a conflict.  They want mobility, not weight.  You can justify any tool as a life saver, yet the Afghans reject them all to stay alive.  Sure, if you think a super studly combat pack of sixty pounds is a good idea, why not add another twenty in armor?  At that point it can’t hurt much, and it can only help since you are already under the hindrance of near zero mobility.  And as far as going with minimal armor to reduce weight, why are you bothering?  Much past a 9mm round they won’t accomplish much except overheat you.

*

Armor is a hot SOB.  In Korea in the wintertime, they are pretty helpful for insulation ( not for mobility, of course ).  Every where and every when else, they hurt rather than help.  Armor is good if you are a cop in an air conditioned car or a soldier not moving around too much outside their mechanical transport ( assuming the lack of mobility is manageable ).  In real world conditions, armor just makes you so miserably hot ( the devices sold to cool you down while wearing armor only decrease the temperature increase marginally-better than nothing of course, but it is the difference between dipping your dingus in a pool of molten lava or boiling water ) that you are NOT paying sufficient attention to your surrounding threats.  Just as being overburdened does.  Being tough is one thing, being miserable to the point of distraction because of flawed planning is quite another.  Your men are getting shot at, stop acting like they are pussies because their knees blew out from a hundred pound ruck or they passed out from heat exhaustion.

*

As a survivalist, you have it in your power to prevent poor judgment planning for combat.  No dumbass officer is there passing down holy commands from on high at the Pentagon.  We finish up tomorrow.

the forever gun book 10 ( last in series )

THE FOREVER GUN BOOK 10

WRAP THIS BITCH UP

The Forever Gun concept is not rocket surgery.  You need a modern smokeless powder gun with oodles and gobs of ammunition to see you through the Apocalypse and into the bright and shiny new Dark Ages.  While the few remaining barbaric hordes you run with are all switching over to crossbows and spears, tomahawks and swords beaten from auto leaf springs, you have the tactical advantage of retaining a real gun with its ammo ( not for you the depressing two shot 38 shown in the movie The Road ).  Because contrary to almost every swinging cheese dingus out there writing about our impending collapse, it isn’t at all about what kind of firearms you choose but rather, about its ammunition supply.  Just as it isn’t as important to have a few cases of freeze dried foods as it is to have an unfathomable amount of stored whole grains, so too the gun you choose is almost besides the point as long as you have thousands of rounds for it ( having a lot of semi-autos, scores of mags for them, and a pallet of ammo is NOT what I am talking about.  The ammo has to actually last you a long time.  Your lifetime.  And most likely because you will die pretty early on in the die-off, the lifetime of your descendent ).

*

The only imaginable future for most of you involves a duplication of today’s military, only set in a overcast bleak future where Constitutionalists battle evil black clad jack booted Federal thugs.  Never mind that most feds are armed desk bound fat thugs only operating on fear rather than skill.  Never mind that the Constitution was a coup by federalists overthrowing the Confederation which had strengthened the individual States rights ( and that the second Confederation, this time a little further South, was as centralistic and damaging to States rights as their Yankee counterpart ), and that every misinformed patriot championing the “sacred document” is in fact promoting the very group in power they profess to despise.

*

No, the important part you must focus on is the stupidity of trying to duplicate today’s military.  Which is a product and servant of the Nation State and is one hundred percent reliant on the Petroleum Age it protects ( by stealing as much of others oil as it can manage-which we have all benefited from as mere unproductive and unskilled peasants feeding off the energy surplus ).  Without oil ( but of course, far more importantly, without surplus net energy which we have already lost despite an all time high by volume of oil-this is an important distinction as NET energy gain is the important part, not the amount of low energy fluids we are pumping ), today’s military is a worthless force.  Not just our tanks which get 800 feet per gallon, but the very equipment of the infantryman.  Without that extra energy, he couldn’t even keep firing his submachinegun ( let alone get to his assigned mountaintop in a foreign country ).  By seeking to emulate today’s infantry you are assuming a continued flow of surplus energy.

*

The future is about a disruption of almost all energy, and to assume an actual surplus of said energy is the height of ignorance.  There won’t be enough of a food surplus to feed a fraction of today’s population, and you expect extra energy to continue fighting with today’s tactics?  There won’t be enough surplus fat for soap, let alone a surplus of nitrates to sacrifice fertilizer for gunpowder.  Those that adapt to the coming reality prior to its occurrence will greatly increase their odds of survival.  The Oil Age is feeding over seven billion, WITH petroleum, and a large fraction of those folks are fighting each other WITH petroleum weapons because they are already a step ahead of you into the future where the surplus food is an actual deficit already ( in something like the last eight out of ten years, the global grain production was less than consumption.  If that doesn’t scare the crap out of you, you shouldn’t pretend to be a prepper ).

*

If you think that tinkering around with impotent rimfire rounds or anemic pistol cartridges is a waste of your time because manly men arm themselves with AR’s ( which is of course just a souped up rimfire, but never mind that right now-the point is the unwarranted worship of this turd of a weapon ) than you simply do NOT have the mental ability to embrace our future.  The future will be what reality wants, not what your wishes, dreams and desires consist of.  You may want all your petroleum luxuries to continue, but as every failed civilization in the history of agricultural has shown, resource depletion added to overpopulation equals the equivalent of a nuclear bomb crater where those bastards used to reside.  I didn’t just wake up one day and decide that I wanted to share my cynicism because misery loves company.  My job is to get as many of you as possible to increase your odds of survival in a future none wish to acknowledge.

*

If all you can do is buy $100 worth ( at a penny a drop ) of the primer chemical they sell with that rimfire reloader ( or, percussion cap reload ), and then pry open fired shotgun primers, using homemade black powder and paper shotgun shells in your $100 single shot 12gauge shotgun, you could have a Forever Gun ( granted, don’t use this unless living in suitable terrain ).  This is the kind of outside the box thinking that you need to engage in about the future.  Dreaming about saving up for a super ninja tacti-cool AR you can use full auto against crowds of urban ghetto poor surrounding your suburban bug-in location, that is the past, not the future ( it far safer and smarter to avoid mobs than to battle them ).  Get away from crowds, focus on calories rather than taste, think in terms of ammo rather than guns, and concentrate on deprivation rather than luxury.

*

You can use ANY pistol round for your Forever Gun, not just what I have focused on for illustrative purposes.  ( I hate the 9mm and prefer a 38 revolver, although I don’t like the lever action guns all that much-but that is just personal preference )( to get the longevity of a 9mm case-the 38 case is not as robust with thinner walls- you can stay with 357 cases.  You’ll have to trim them down to fire in a 38, however.  I’d advise just sticking with 357 guns and loading lower power ).  As long as they make a gun for it you are comfortable with.  Or you can go other routes.  The important part is that the destination you arrive at is a future with enough ammunition to last you a very long time.  Do NOT think like a “prepper” stockpiling for a three week electricity disruption.  Those fools get to have the cake of semi-autos and MRE’s and eat at the petroleum forever table.  Be a civilization collapsing survivalist.  Real civilization collapse of Malthusian proportions, not the Hollywood cavalry to the rescue one.

because the hate you 2 of 2

BECAUSE THEY HATE YOU 2

Before we continue on today over the theme of Avoid Over Hyped Guns, a quick word on the author of yesterday’s linked article ( we are the HK marketing department, you suck, and we hate you ).  He has a series “Monster Hunters” which one would normally avoid if you prefer your fiction more attuned to reality than zombies ( barely accepted only because of the survivalism included in some stories such as The Walking Dumbasses ) or spell casting wizards or vampire romance or other drivel.  I certainly never would have chanced reading such if the aforementioned article hadn’t been so expertly crafted.  It of course helped that the first in the series is a free offer.  Let me tell you, this boy can write like nobodies business.  Recommended.

*

Choosing a firearm is not easy.  Half the people tell you each and every one is the bees knees and the best thing to come alone to western civilization since sliced white bread, and the other half tell you that this particular firearm is the worst thing ever invented, far worse than Nazi concentration camp poison gas, the Ford Pinto or James Patterson novels.  Some time ago I spent series coin on a Paladin book on all the war surplus rifles ( back when they were all still both available and affordable ) and the silly twat had glowing recommendations for ALL the types ever issued by any government of the era.  Surely you can’t believe the Austria-Hungarian empire which was in decline and straddled with a central government both overgrown and inefficient could procure a personal infantry rifle on par with the Germans?  Evidently so.  You certainly can’t rely on military veterans and their recommendations-you get the same he said/she said contradictions.  As soon as one vet claims it habitually took three rounds to drop a Skinny ( Ethiopian combatant ) because the 223 blows fecal soup, another chimes in with reams of data showing how this couldn’t possibly be true, or if it is it can only be because a brand new barrel twist or super secret improved gunpowder would easily solve the issue.

*

And survivalist writers?  You can’t trust any of them unless you know if they are just parroting previous decades old advice  or actually have a few random spare neurons firing in their brain pan and can think rationally.  For instance, in my case, I have NEVER heard one disparaging word on the HK91 as far as reliability ( not a claim the M16/AR15 can ever dream of matching ).  Different clone manufacturers, of course, can get a bad reputation.  Heck, a 1911A1 .45 can be easily screwed up by a shoddy manufacturer.  But as far as a designed system, nary a one.  Nobody can argue that the HK isn’t as reliable as can be in the field ( where it counts-not on the firing line ).  And as accurate as any other general issue battle rifle.  No, the legions nay saying focus almost exclusively on the ergonomics.  Oh, the mag release is awkward.  The charging bolt is hard to operate.  Okay, let me see if I have this correct.  Your battle rifle that you intend to use as a post-apocalyptic weapon does not reload as fast as other types.  Yes?

*

And?  It is a friggin long distance rifle.  The whole point in having this over powered cartridge is to reach out past assault carbine ranges.  This isn’t a fully automatic gun, so you aren’t using it as a squad automatic weapon.  You are far away, so why does it matter if a magazine change takes twice as long?  Why is recoil an issue if you are conserving ammo?  You are NOT equipping yourself for nation state combat.  Your parameters are different.  High rate of fire consideration is a BAD thing, once the ammo factories are molten glass.  So, all things considered, even without testing I can probably safely assume the HK91 lives up to its reputation.

*

But, again, most guns are not as easy to figure out.  Nobody can test all of them ( and when some did, their work is far out of date if from nothing else all the manufactures have changed or the models are no longer available ).  You almost have no choice but to slog through all the hype and desperately try to weed out the BS and keyboard commandos.  You can’t necessarily listen to those that have field experience, either.  They are, once again, using nation state military equipment and tactics.  And, they have Big Bucks.  Sure, you are a High Speed operator and Uncle Obammy pays you a hundred grand a year to protect VIP’s, you can afford high dollar equipment.  The rest of us live in the real world where no matter how obvious it is to us that the world is ending, the spouse could give a crap ( no budgetary love ).  Hillary could give a crap ( lots of extra gun control) and neither could The Donald ( extra taxes to pay off his rich buddy’s ).  In short, even if your life is worth Big Bucks, you don’t have them.

*

The Internet is infamous for burying us in data.  Mindless drones hammering on about nothing desperate to cling to your ability to generate ad dollars.  Too much data and almost no information.  And even less knowledge.  Yet even before we all hooked up to the Matrix, face to face word of mouth being replaced with its electronic equivalent, there was still very little real world information on how to choose a firearm.  You had far fewer sources to use as a study guide.  New York decided to publish their choice of a survivalist book and you got their approved information.  At least now, despite all the headaches of information overload, you can judge for yourself from far more sources.  Yes, listening to hype can be a lazy shortcut to research.  But in this case it is also a way to avoid wasting money, IF you study both sides of the issue and make up your own mind.  Hype is unavoidable, just trace it back to its source and judge THAT.  Everyone is guilty of being a Fan Boy.  You find something that actually works and you want to tell the world ( but, believe me, the ingrate suns a bitches won’t thank you.  How many of you have an Enfield?  Right, more like one of those whore dog Russian bolts ).  Look at picking a firearm like a free education.  Put in the work, unlike in “real” college don’t trust the approved text book, apply logic, trust in your own judgment.  You won’t avoid hype.  Everyone is guilty.  And always remember, They Hate You.  Add cynicism to your choice.  Too cheap?  Too expensive?  Approved by the Thought Police as a perfect weapon?  Why?  Who benefits from the hype?  Who profits off your decision ( as in, why did this periodical approve this weapon? )?  Follow the money.  Hype is a given, don’t focus on that.
