working women

WOMEN WORKERS
( before we start-many thanks, Scott.  I much appreciate the book.  Remember, minions, a book is the same as saying that I am as a god amongst men but since you all share a vengeful god that won't share you must merely sacrifice a tree to me )
I know I’ve been a tad harsh at times with the female species.  Not so harsh as to deserve the Hater label, but I’ll admit my ability to explore the issue in depth rationally might have been clouded by the Super Satan Spawn who merely used me for a sperm bank ( we do have some mighty fine kids-I’ll bow to her judgment on mating material ) and a wallet ( I know I don’t make much now but back when those papers were signed she was getting a hefty portion of a nice retail managers salary ).  Now, without the financial pressure, it is just an intellectual puzzle that is fun to solve.  Let’s place the ground rules, anthropologically speaking.  For almost all the history of us as a species, hunter and gatherers, males and females have both worked equally hard.  Males usually in short intense bursts and females in long energy conserving stretches.  The calories and effort were the same but used differently.  The guy might work up a sweat falling a couple of trees while the gal kept up after the kids and laundry and cooking.  Males would hunt game for two days, moving most of that time followed by a burst of energy to kill, while the females stayed home, a kid strapped to her back as she gathered nuts and berries.  Both did what evolution had designed them for ( which is why, really, we are different species ) and neither could readily survive without the other.

*

Work-wise, even farming didn’t change much.  The women did the time consuming light work ( I’m not saying scrubbing wash isn’t hard work, just that physically women can’t work much heavier loads constantly ) and men the heavier chores.  Both worked all day and neither could survive without the other.  Even the start of the Industrial Revolution didn’t change a lot in the work place, as far as effecting gender dominance.  Women took more time to deliver kids, but by and large if they were in an area where factory work wanted women, they worked there ( this wouldn’t apply in, say, a mining town ).  The men in the heavier labor, the women in the lighter more repetitive factories.  Then came FDR, the puke, with his Social Security, and split up the three generational family ( it took awhile to unfold, but that is the end result ) and for good measure put women to work in heavier industry as the sole breadwinner ( the males military pay probably less than sufficient to cover household expenses )( the same was going on with the Russians, with similar results- Russian women are more inclined at divorce than Americans, even ).  Things might have calmed down after the war, tradition roles reaffirmed, but I’m convinced Rosie The Riveter was the grandmother of the women’s rights movement ( follow the money ) and not Susan B. Anthony or some other homely bitch.

*

Now, don’t get me wrong.  I’m not saying the movement shouldn’t have happened, per se.  Even if slavery is going to return, good riddance to it while this historical anomaly lasts, and even if women’s lib will die out at the end of the Oil Age, I can’t say we should have kept them oppressed as long as we did.  I object to the harm it has done to family structure and eroded its stability, but I don’t object to women having more basic human rights.  I’m just saying that an ordered society always has some restrictions for all genders that isn’t palatable to the individual.  And the effect on freeing women to work has been the females liberation.  Total, economic liberation.  They don’t need males, and while a lot of gals are burning their bras and braiding their armpit hair in celebration, cultural cohesiveness has died.  When both genders worked and needed the others contribution, family stability, extended even to the tribe, was there.  When a gal doesn’t need a man to survive, you get a dysfunctional family ( as you do when old folks are farmed out to Florida and Arizona mobile homes, away from the kids and grandkids ).  I’m not talking about making males dominant and females submissive.  I’m not some crazy Christian cult leader ( we got a lot of them back West here- but the Mammon Church is too gentrified to qualify anymore ).  That does not make for a stable community long term ( I’d submit the Amish as an example, crazy craphouse rat bastards, and the escape clause prior to adulthood is more to relieve land/population pressure than an outlet from repression ).  No, rather than submissiveness, one should allow subservience, and only in the field that gender commands.  If the man works, they move on his command.  If there is mortal danger, Dad is in charge.  But how the kids will be raised? How the home will be run? Only a damn fool thwarts his wife on that one.  And he sure as hell should listen to her tell him about the real politics in the community ( as opposed to the official politics which is no more that hooting and hollering by local shake down artists on command from the state and federal colonial masters ).

*

Now, break up that partnership because of women’s lib ( I don’t need no stinkin man! ).  Instead of two parts joining to be more than the sum of their parts, each goes their own way and manages both once gender specific tasks poorly ( just as old people live less productive lives alone, as do their grandchildren without wiser guidance ).  Who has won here except the bankers and businesses cashing in on twice the consumption and governments dividing and conquering?  Don’t you think we kind of threw the baby out with the bathwater?  I really don’t think this is sour grapes on my part ( I’m totally rudderless out here dating/mating wise.  Women don’t need me for much of anything, especially at my age since although I’m pretty and endowed they aren’t having much beyond the occasional urge.  And since they make as much or more money, I don’t even try anymore there ).  I’ve pretty much made my peace here.  Now its just an interesting ponderable.  Just another tragicomedy.  For you guys, you already know the dangers.  For you gals, remember that when it happens the blowback is going to be extreme before things settle back to historical norms.

  1. Even in the most patriarchal of societies there are exceptions to every gender 'rule' (look at the new crop of women Jihadists). But that doesn't mean the average is the exceptions. Our US societies current trend is for women to have the higher paying mid-level white collar and service jobs. Men are either doing the blue collar or highest level white collar jobs. As the energy supply continues to contract, eating from a restaurant or a freezer full of microwavable store bought 'foods' will become increasingly expensive (in terms of money and health) and someone in a household is going to have to pickup the slack of making meals from simple 'scratch' ingredients. This will fall to whom ever is home more ( or at least it _should_ ). since during this phase of the collapse that will be the more frequently unemployed males, I expect to see more males doing more of the domestic chores- and *low budget* home improvements/fixes, gardening, etc. Turning the whole stereotype paradigm on its head briefly. After the collapse begins hitting bottom I expect there to be a bit of turmoil as the historic norms get re-established, hopefully keeping the rights of the individuals of both genders to pursue their talents and desires as much as possible. (it is surprising how many women, at least in rural areas, WANT to be a home maker and mother, with work only being a nice side line to it).
    We will see.

    1. I would submit that rural gals are in general a heck of a lot smarter than city bitches to start with. Common sense if not book learning.

    2. City grrls don't need to learn anything except how to smell good.
Then, fancy clothes, grrl tat's, virtual reality time-wasting and the usual assortment of consumer extravagances.

Gimme those strong smart farm girls!

    3. I keep feeling I won the lotto with my spouse. City raised but willing to "shit in a bucket" (at least for a while) and make & eat scratch made meals. Educated but practical.

  2. As a woman, I can't tell you how many women I know would rather be home raising their kids than out in the workforce. But they have to make ends meet, so they stay. That is what makes "equality" important today. But I think I see this starting to change. Since a lot of women are falling into part-time or low-pay service industry jobs, many are deciding, especially with child care costs, that it's actually cheaper for them to stay at home than work. I think we'll see this trend continue as the economy continues to fall apart.

    1. Perhaps the best thing to come out of ObammyCare will be more part time jobs, hence more stay at home moms.

  3. Poptarts, microwave ovens and disposable diapers ruined the family. Toss the kid a poptart instead of a cooked breakfast! Leaves more *me* time! Get a microwave, then you won't have to *slave* over dinner! Just pop it in and minutes later, dinner! No reason you can't go out and work! Disposable diapers, no more laundry day drudgery! You can have a career!

No poptarts in our house. My kids had cloth diapers. And while I do have a microwave, it is used maybe once or twice a week to reheat something.

The media and Hollywood celebrate the *powerful* woman now. Now. They show "women who have it ALL" perfect kids and house, terrific career, (possibly) a perfect marriage to a *sensitive* man. It's bullshit. NO woman has it all. Not like that anyway.
Do *I* have it all? Sure do, a fixer-upper house, a rattle-trap barn, grown kids, a terrific partner that WANTS me to stay home in order to run the farm, cook and clean and value him as the wonderful person he is. I have goats, too.
When the crash comes, he is assured he has a partner that knows how to cook from scratch, make cheese, bake for-real bread (even if I start with raw wheat) and *doctor* the livestock (and people, too, if need be).

Perhaps a part of the problem is not the women...but the men. Why do they not demand more from their women? Why do they agree to anything a woman wants (new car, new house, etc) just because she has a nice rack or ass? Great boobs are great...but they won't help if you need a partner that can bake bread or plant a garden. That ass may give you a boner, but will it come in handy if she has to wash clothes without a washing machine?
Perhaps you should teach your sons about what REALLY counts and teach your daughters to have the skills that are important in life.
    Dammit, I'm ranting again...

    1. Well, as someone who married for a great rack, I'll just say that in your twenties that is actually a very important thing. Not that I knew it then, but now I understand, she was a great breeder. Big boobs, big ass and big hips and she popped out very healthy kids that got plenty of fresh milk ( because of her body fat, not the size of her boobs, but big boobs IS excess body fat. What we lust after actually works in the childs benefit ). So, men being pigs and horndogs translates into good breeding practices. And, she was employed in a strong field so for the times she was an asset.

  4. Since wife, girlfriend? # 4 or 5? left and you have been de-balled by the female boss who does the job you used to do years ago, you have taken on a much deeper and dark attitude about women.
Those of us that still read your blog can see the ebb and flow of your writings as your life goes through the changes that happen to all of us. But women can and will dismiss you James, what do you have to offer us? A hole in the ground, Unable to buy a car so you say it's because the Magical Oil Fairy will end our civilization we should not have 1 or want a nice one. And if we want more than 1 trip a year to a casino to be forced to play the penny slots and eat a grizzeled covered pork chop at the $3.00 buffet while you rent a $125.00 car fill it with $40.00 of gas and go drink with your friends and buy $100.00 of bagged wheat which you only have 2 recipes to cook with it. The woman should put up with that B.S. just to MAYBE live 2 extra months after the end you say is coming?
    Get a real life!

    1. I mostly can't argue with all of that, which is why I'm resigned to living alone from now one. And I'm okay with it. However, I DON'T drink, ever, and casino buffets are $13, not $3, and the food not all that great. Also, you forget to add that the insane jealousy over my hair is actually why women can't handle my pressence.

  5. At the rate that the economy is imploding James, I can't see the era of the high powered career woman lasting too much longer? The majority of work being performed today is made up work. Usually some sort of paper pusher job or the such, that pays obscene amounts of money for producing very little actual product of any real use. As opposed to the old days when a service industry was more the norm, and was not frowned upon and considered respectable work.

Look to see Farmer Brown or Harry Homesteader to be a real catch with the ladies in the years to come.
