If the Soviet nuclear threat was blown out of proportion for the elites own ends in this country, and that once the Russians ceded control of large swaths of the former USSR to the natives for self rule so as to be done with the burden of colonialization while still enjoying the benefits of buffer states, one could reasonably conclude that the Russian Empire was no longer a threat as it was contracting rather than expanding, how can you conclude that a nuclear war with that state is still even a remote possibility?  Baring US offensive operations, the Russians would be more than happy keeping their chunk of ice for themselves and minding their own damn business.  Unlike the US who is so busy sticking its nose in everyone else’s.  Which wouldn’t be a bad thing if we could actually get some benefits from intruding, rather than just treasure and blood expenditure.  But, when all is said and done, the myth of nuclear fallout from Commie Bear missiles hitting our ICBM bases seems to persist.  Just like the dangers of communism are still being branded about even as our system goes Full Fascist as if that alternative is oh so much better.

Oh, golly gee whiz!  The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming, look at the EVIL socialist Venezuela and how bad and evil and unjust socialism is!  We could be, like, all SOCIALIST and such and what not!  Well, crap, I wonder why Venezuela being socialist all those many years ago wasn’t such a bad thing?  If you are full on retard centralized control, why does that rule twenty years prior work out okay but not now, suddenly?  Perhaps something else is going on?  I don’t know, perhaps the fact that Fake Fuel isn’t as great as the Fracking Faggots make it out to be, and Venezuela has a whole bunch of the stuff, which it can’t sell because you can buy REAL oil for the same price ( there being a current glut globally due to manufacturing demand crashes )?  Could some of that have ANYTHING to do with the economic collapse over there?  Sure, government interference never helps out overly much, but we do that here just as much.  Ever hear about the food safety laws keeping small farmer dairy off the market?

Anyway, when fears of fallout aren’t being flogged as the dead horse it is, then the next card to be played is the Evil Hordes Descend Upon The Righteous Christian Folk, Their Tatooed Skin And Propensity Towards Pre-Marital Sex The Mark Of The Beast!  Oh boy, we can’t be having that, now can we?  I guess there isn’t any other way to sell the barren dry ass deserts of eastern Oregon as a prepper paradise, because that area has about zero appeal.  Between needing irrigation and the actual nuclear threat of Washington’s testing and waste facility, and their California style governments, I’m at a lose how these areas were ever a good choice for relocation.  Not to mention, if we are still on the Russian Nuclear Target List thing, the fallout from the naval facilities.  And the ports for container unloading.  Yet, don’t include Nevada, with its identical climate yet far more conservative and lower tax government, plus far better hidden inaccessible backcountry with much cheaper land.

My guess?  Nevada allows whores and around the clock drinking, plus gambling machines which are somehow more evil than state lottery gaming.  So, obviously, we are morally reprehensible compared to the gays and PC Army over in the “allowed” two half desert states.  Nevada must be more dangerous than an area with a super volcano ready to blow!  It has Ladies Of The Night!  Obviously, please, stay the hump away from Nevada.  I don’t particularly want any more people moving in.  You’ll just crowd all the Californians.  My point is only that large gaping holes in logic are employed in the blog version of Strategic Relocation and might be a flawed model to be followed.  The West, as survival retreat, has its moments.  I love the lack of people.  But since I’m not a Fracking Fag, I also see the danger of living here, once irrigation is no longer powered, the dams are silted up to uselessness, the 1,000 year droughts becoming the five year droughts persist and far too many people relocate here not because of the threat of nuclear war but because all of us here are fleeing danger but actually jumping from the frying pan into the fire.  Absent petroleum, the arid American West is not habitable except for a few herders and nomads ( so why, again, are we including the deserts of Washington, Oregon and south Idaho? ).

Because the East is full of people, and was once a target of nuclear fallout, it is preferable to relocate to some place with no water?  If you are planning on being a raider, a sheep herder, that is all fine and dandy.  But Yuppie Scum survivalists are only allowed to be farmers.  It is a doctrinal necessity.  They are not allowed to even consider offensive operations.  They must be lambs and await the evil doers to meet them on their own turf.  Okay, fine with me.  I like an enemy that can’t pull his head out of his ass.  But if you follow the dictates of said guru’s, you are borrowing trouble.  What you need to realize is that all this advice was meant for the rich survivalists.  Not the less well to do masses ( who nonetheless support the sites through purchasing the advertised items ).  The less well off cannot afford northern Idaho property.  They are the ones stuck out in the desert.  So the farming utopia you are urged to move to is not so wonderful once the oil stops being imported from Saudi Arabia.  The water stops being pumped, if you don’t lose your mortgage because the unemployment rate just skyrocketed.

Western farming and ranching is going to revert to a very few families controlling the water sources ( outside a few acceptable rainfall locations such as northern Idaho which combine high taxes, high real estate prices and about zero jobs ).  Your Yuppie ranchette is likely a future casualty of consolidation.  If you want to farm, and are of lesser means, you must move East.  To the Right Side of the continent.

I don’t much care for Back East.  The South is a great place to live, kind of, but the north is all Yankeeland.  I’m sure that there are a few nice Yankees out there ( the NOL is one of them, but she is of French descent rather than English so she’s not a bad egg ), but if their little slice of paradise is so great, why do they all move down south to retire?  It’s not JUST because of the weather.  Retirees in Florida hibernate in their air conditioning, not so different than staying in your warm house in winter up north.  Mostly, living there has got to be like living on the Wrong Side, in California.  Mein Gott Im Hemmel, that place is the crappiest crap hole in all the universe of crapholes.  Move back to Cali, while adding wet windy winters?  That’s got to be what YankeeLand is like.  I’d like nothing to do with it, thank you very much.  BUT!  And there is always a “but” and it usually smells like butt, if I was going to be a farmer I sure as hell would be a Eastern one long before I became a Western one, irregardless of population.

Population long ago became overpopulation, here in the United States.  In Australia, they have the decency to pack everyone in the cities and then leave the rural areas the hell alone.  In the US, we packed the cities with immigrants, both Mexican and African, and now Muslim, and so everyone with gas money and the credit for a house ( pre-2008 ) moved out to the rural areas.  You can’t move to the country and really be alone unless you have income coming in from outside, which is rare enough ( self employed in a poor rural area is not the most brilliant move, unless you are getting money coming in from outside that area ).  Far too many areas are suburbia, and for good reason.  Who the hell wants to live in the ghetto, with their kids forcibly bussed to a Black school?  Anyone with half a brain moves away from that crap.  The ones with no brains do not.  They bleat with PC indignation how we shouldn’t be prejudiced.  Hell, call me prejudiced as long as I don’t get beat down by a flash mob, car jacked or die in a drive by.  You have zero excuse for living near a ghetto.  If you are poor you pack a duffle bag, buy a Greyhound ticket and get a minimum wage job while paying for a roommate position.  No excuse, there.

So, given our infrastructure of car dependency, and our inclination to get away from the racial problems our elites of yesteryear created ( the Yankee slave traders ), or are creating ( the Yankee ivy school asswhores encouraging the flood of Mexicans to suppress wages-but by all means, agitate for eliminating that minimum wage since it isn’t a “free market solution” ), it is understandable that even most rural areas are overpopulated.  I don’t think the ideal answer is to avoid a specific state or region, but to avoid each areas worst population densities.  Not just the urban proper but the suburban sprawl, to as large of a degree as possible.  Utah is a great place to live for some ( I would NEVER advise it, the government hates poor gentiles ), as long as you avoid the Salt Lake area Ogden-to-Provo mega-city.  If you live in Reno or Las Vegas, you gain zero advantages of the state of Nevada.  If you must live in California, outside the greater L.A. to San Diego or Bay Area Uber-Urban areas there is plenty of rural destinations.

And the East, outside the DC to Boston corridor, avoiding the worst concentrations of Black Ghetto urban cores elsewhere, while rather too crowded for comfort you will still find plenty of rural land that should be to your liking.  All over the West, wherever there is a job to be had, there is suburban sprawl.  Just like back East.  Too many folks for comfort.  But in the West, most areas devoid of crowds have zero water.  Any empty space is usually bone dry.  All the crowds are crowding the water.  But back east, any uncrowded area still gets an abundance of rainfall.  And even the rocky poor soil beats most of the dirt in the West ( with the exception of a few areas like northern Idaho, the playground of the rich wanna-be survivalists.  Yes, IH, I know there are always exceptions.  They prove the rule, eh? ).  Hardscrabble farming in the East is more than likely a better bet than arid/irrigation farming in the West.  The rain will always fall back East, but wells will eventually stop pumping out West.  Not that the East doesn’t have its unique problems.

Obammy was a great President.  For the Elites ( so is Trump, so the Republican/Democrat labels are more worthless than ever ).  He stirred up an unbelievable amount of crap to start the newest race wars.  Living in the South right now could be rather dangerous.  As is living anywhere near the urban cores anywhere in the US.  Blacks are fired up and ready to rumble, and while I sympathize with their historical injustices I don’t wish to be a sacrifice in their backlash.  But that doesn’t mean they will be roaming the countryside looking for crackers to kill.  If you are outside their areas of control, in the redneck countryside, they are far less of a menace.  So, what is your preference?  Farming in the country, with an outside chance of racial warfare, or trying to farm in the desert without water because the Black and Latino gangs control it ( some cities in the West have no water supply but wells.  Those are the now closed ghost towns which mined, or the newest suburbs.  The historical towns still viable only built on a water supply )?

If you are a mountain dweller, using valley’s with fertile soil and rainfall, or even hardscrabble hillside, you are relatively safe even if back East.  You’ll avoid becoming a serf and most likely shall remain an independent living in a village community, a farmer militiaman.  If you live in the West, relying on a centralized water supply, you WILL be a serf soon enough.  Centralized water always ends in peasant/serf/slave laboring.  The East has a LOT of locations outside of both city and suburbs that can far more safely be farmed than back West.  Nowhere is there a perfect retreat location.  For poor people, relying on rain rather than technology, the East most likely is the better compromise.

note: okay, this is the last night time article.  I'm going back to once a day posting, as per minion requests ( almost 4 to 1 preference ).  And per a minions very helpful suggestion, one I hadn't considered ( I was thinking of all kinds of different solutions for getting rid of my surplus writing, from monthly magazines to weekly book posts ), I'm going to double or triple up in one day the article length ( as long as the articles are a continuation of the same subject.  I used to publish part 1 today, part 2 tomorrow, now it is 1&2 in one day ), when appropriate.  I had the next two weeks articles already written, so if you come across references suggesting the old two a day, just ignore.  Thank you everyone, for the feedback and other assistance.

Idaho Yuppie Scum Survivalist Guru’s are a rather easy target as a week rarely goes by without some pearl of wisdom from their sites having a hint of odor not usually associated with jewelry.  They are too easy, and if I were a better man I’d feel bad about picking on their data points.  But, I don’t.  Hell, one was an officer, for goodness sakes.  Why not just become a lawyer or politician while you’re at it ( oh, wait, another one was )?  But my point is not to kick a dog when he’s down, rather to come to his defense.  Nothing preached is too original.  Not that I’m claiming that mantel.  Nuke bread and the Jim Washer are it for me unless my memory loss is worse than I can remember ( get it? I can’t remember if I’m losing my mind.  Anything?  This is why I’m not doing stand-up ).  Most of the ideas, flawed or otherwise, originated in the mists of time.  The Redoubt idea?  A combination of the Strategic Relocation book and the ‘80’s pulp survival fiction series Tri-State creation.  Nothing wrong with that, as a good idea is good regardless of its origins.  My issue is when you don’t understand WHY it was a good idea, and hence apply it inappropriately.

Strategic Relocation is one of those books that sounds better talking about than reading.  Once you get into the meat of it you realize how weak the actual data is.  Not only from being out of date, despite new editions, but for using the wrong indicators to even get those.  I wouldn’t suggest anyone actually spend the $30 to compare their areas perceived problems or attributes with the reality it is now, but it is pretty bad.  Their target relocation guide in western Nevada, full of ranchland, has for a very long time ( far more than the twenty years I’ve been around it ) been California implant suburbia, the land now so expensive not even the 10% top earners ( workers, not the rich ) could afford to use it as grazing cattle.  It is a well watered ( for Nevada ), mild weather spot.  And it is butt holes to elbows chock-a-block full of Yuppie Scum crammed into quarter million dollar houses that can’t be sold due to zero jobs in the area above minimum wage ( and the local county is great adding extra fees to the property tax to jack it above the already high state percentage ).  Then, just reading on other states I’ve never been to, I find it doesn’t answer my questions that are rather pertinent.  Like that employment picture and total property tax issue.

It is all well and good to have a map showing the largest taxes, but that doesn’t really help me all that much.  What kind of taxes are important.  If I don’t drink or smoke, and I own a piece of raw land rather than a house, Texas wouldn’t be the worst place to live ( liberal zoning outside city limits is a big help ).  But if I was zapped by all three taxes, my burden would be far higher than what the chart indicated.  I lived in Texas for a short while and worked at a convenience store, plus did a lot of reading online while buying land.  These are the kinds of stats that are helpful but not really covered in detail.  Really, Strategic Relocation isn’t too much better at deciding your U-Hauls direction than you are with your spotty grade school knowledge of the place you hope to move to.  The book did one thing well, and that was protecting yourself from the projected fallout from Soviet nuclear strikes.  And that was pretty much it.  Any other information you hope to gleam from it is incomplete to the point of uselessness.

I’m not saying that the book isn’t worth the money, if that is the treat you are protecting yourself against.  It definitely is.  I don’t think we’ve moved our ICBM bases in the interim so that information, along with the earthquake zones, should be spot on.  But going on and on about the dangers of nuclear fallout after the Soviet Union crashed and burned almost smells of desperation to me, a One Trick Pony insistent that his book sales continue.  Hey, more power to ya, brother.  I bought a copy when I was flush with book money.  I might actually make use of it one day other than a quick review, who knows.  It has some nostalgic value, also.  I just don’t think much of the threat.  It is a possibility rather than a probability.  Anything can happen.  But, really?  All the Russians need to do is contain the US forces from advancing any further, really not anything they didn’t do in the Cold War, and have little need to act offensively.

In case you missed the newsflash, too busy spooning the beloved memories of your precious darling FDR, the Soviets were allowed to advance into Eastern Europe, by our Dear Leaders.  We got ours, Germany occupation and most of the British naval bases, so they can have the Slavs.  So they stuck their noses into Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan.  So did we and on equally flimsy excuses.  The Cold War boiled down to keeping our military production up to the point we nationalized the factories almost as much as the Nazi’s did ( we just controlled them with defense contracts rather than bureaucracy, and allowed them the same profits ) so as to avoid a repeat of the Great Depression.  And profited the Federal Reserve as much as during that downturn.  In hindsight, the Cold War was never going to turn Hot, both countries more concerned with controlling their populations and keeping the power structure than with dominating the globe.

So, with that hindsight, why are we still worried about another theoretical nuclear exchange?  The only thing we must fear is our own people launching the nukes and then a Russian retaliation.  While possible I wonder how likely that is.  Not because looking at it rationally it makes no sense to do so ( our leaders are the furthest thing from rational ) but from seeing few scenarios where we would think we needed to ( using the convoluted “logic” of our elite ).  Continued tomorrow.

AMERICAN BLACKOUT

A loyal minion gave a link to the YouTube version of National Geographic’s “American Blackout ( 2013, hour and a half full movie )”.  I would normally ignore such shows but for some reason, perhaps because it was a Sunday and that is the no exercise and no writing day so I had extra time, I starting watching it ( on the smart TV which gets YouTube, so it was an easy chair viewing.  The resolution blew, but the bigger picture and relaxed posture made up for it ).  After a half hour I grew restless ( I hate watching TV during the day, the few times I give in to the urge I regret the time spent and the low quality product.  I’ve had LESS reading time since I went to writing full time and bemoan losing even more with daytime television ) and turned it off.  Typical writing and production values of the “Doomsday Prepper” genre.  But I couldn’t concentrate on other matters as this low quality show somehow had got its hooks into me.  I don’t know why.  I HAD to go back and finish it.

This was actually one of their few shows that made you think.  Not the typical response of “these morons deserve to die”, which I believe is the standard mega-meme each of these shows pushes since it gives the viewers a superiority complex and encourages their return, but more of a tactical puzzle line of thinking.  The show had parallel stories and you could dismiss the idiots in the elevator ( it was a Express and had no doors in between.  I don’t care for regular elevators on principle but I’d never get on one of those if there weren’t secondary escape doors ) or the Yuppie Scum up top on a skyscraper with no storage water or food who had one stab himself opening a can of peaches with a butcher knife and another go out into the hallway expecting rescuers but encountered a gang.  But the one story I thought I’d hate, the bug-out guy in Colorado, was captivating.

Here was your typical quasi-fat macho guy leaving expensive suburbia for an expensive rural retreat, the prototypical prepper plan.  He had his mouth breathing son who lived on a video camera ( yes, I know, archival footage of the disaster in the cheap movie style of this day, but irritating nonetheless for its oxygen wasting Facebook user vibe ), a daughter who picked a real winner of a boyfriend ( who one assumes was invited along only to get the grown daughter to come along ) and a typically trophy wife tagalong to, one supposes, cook dinner.  You can’t help but dislike these spoiled pukes.  Well, almost upon arriving, I believe a mere Day Two into the grid-down ( evil Russian hackers isn’t mentioned but surely implied ), the neighbor comes along to the common fence and begs for some food.  If these are typical ass to elbow one to three acre “country” plots you could see how there would still be plenty of those.

The dad tells him to piss off but dumbass boyfriend along volunteers how as they could obviously spare some canned foods ( the “real” food in freeze dried is down in the basement bunker, the cans in the house mere decoys, as explained in the initial tour ).  Typical, your stuff is freely expected to be all their stuff.  Dad tells the neighbor, no, boyfriend is a dumbass and they can’t spare any.  Neighbor is mumbling threats as he leaves.  It then degenerates as you might expect with fighting and raids and whatnot.  Now, forget about the neighbor having food because he was a country dweller.  These most likely were countrified estates more suburban than actual rural.  Yuppie Scum overpaying for the illusion of rural but the reality of quick commutes to shopping and entertainment.  What I loved was how the neighbor didn’t even know dad was a prepper, he just expected a sharing of the food because they were sited next to each other.  He expected “neighborly” without even knowing the guy.  He had the same attitude of the boyfriend ( the news was still up in some areas, letting everyone know the grid was down in most places, so the perceived threat was known and most didn’t believe this was merely a short term power outage.  They knew it was a cyber attack ).  Not of entitlement.  I hate that label as it denotes crack head Blacks on welfare, given its users a moral superiority which blinds them to the boots on the ground reality.  The same with “income inequality” which fails to separate well paid workers from rich parasites.  No, the attitude is one of “never ending abundance” which always assume the next guy can help you if you don’t plan, just because We Can Never Run Out ( true to form, that is how the show ends against all logic ).

Not only that, “you are expected to provide because you are a neighbor, prepper or not”, but the damned if you do and damned if you don’t aspect of it all.  If you help, they come back for more and if you don’t they attack.  As expected, dad failed to be proactive and let them attack, but that is typical prepper philosophy.  He had layers of defense and escape and zero offensive thought.  Of course, that turns out to be the correct decision according to National Geographic, a long time Imperial Center Occupant company, since the power magically resumes in something like ten days ( despite all those transformers blowing and the out of control fires, of course ).  No one expects you to attack the potentially dangerous neighbor on Day Two, as things could recover soon.  But Day Ten?  The whole episode highlighted the difficulties, potentials and trials of a semi-secluded retreat and hence is why I’d heartily recommend your viewing of this otherwise silly show.  It is indeed Food For Thought, unlike most of its ilk.

Having chosen supposed quality over quantity, the American police state is very well policed.  Except on the street.  And except for having enough to do the actual job.  There are bureaucrats galore, paper pushers warming seats, advanced college degree holders pretending to be law enforcement ( FBI ), many agents in the federal intelligence services, a huge military officer corp.  You have legions of lawyers and court officers and penal officers.  There are armed park rangers and armed investigators for the Environmental Protection Agency.  But what there isn’t very much of are beat cops and infantrymen.  The tip of the spear is pretty small compared to the bloated shaft of hangers on’s and management and pretty uniformed posers.  You can give Smokey The Bear a hundred rounds in 9mm rounds for his Glock, send him to a month a year of classroom training as his Academy certificate proudly marks him as a LEO ( or, FLEA ) for all and sundry to see and bask in, yet he really isn’t a cop.

Overall there are very few cops around to keep the peace, nor hardly any soldiers to back them up in times of extreme unrest.  The FedGov was founded in 1861 ( taking over the UStates ofA ) and since then has used finances and law as its primary power projection.  And has always had a very small military force, as well as a law enforcement one, to back those up.  But understand that lawyers are in charge and they don’t like being in bed with the military or law enforcement.  Those are bizarre bedfellows and not welcome.  As lawyers, they actually see the world through the prism of words and paper having effect, having real power.  Of course armed force does, but they don’t see that.  These are lawyers, you KNOW their brains are damaged.  Cops and soldiers are scary and must be leashed at all times, like a grandma owning a Doberman.  Even when the bulk of the male population was uniformed to fight the Brits for world domination, the bureaucrats, lawyers and politicians kept a very tight reign on the few warriors that were amongst them.  They were to be feared and controlled.  The rich nerd fearing the bully boys.

So, if you are one of the elite, minimizing the armed threat against you by keeping the police and military understaffed and full of girls, or girly-men, and then your money runs out to bribe the populations rabble proletariat, and they start to riot, how do you control them?  You don’t have enough cops.  You neutered the police/military to control them, plus those you have had been feminized by PC policy and imploding standards.  There are no where near enough police to control things.  Once words and monetary digits can’t pacify the population, and cops can’t contain them, what is left?  Cops have too few in numbers to control the rioters, but there are enough of them to control the food.  And, no, I’m not talking about the supermarkets, the targets of the looters and rioters and the Yuppie Scum bitches who eat out every meal and have empty cupboards.  Those are ineffectual, just being the terminus of the Just-In-time inventory system.  Those will be overrun before the police can organize anyway ( if they can even be spared from the other areas of rioting such as near the rich part of town ).

There should be enough police to control the road networks, in effect bottling the urban population in.  And to protect the crop growing areas, the grain elevators, the rail terminals and the wholesaler processing and storage facilities.  As well as the trucking system and highway arteries.  Enough armed soldiers will be available to supplement LEO’s.  An office clerk or truck mechanic has enough training to protect his area of operation with his M4, if only security is required.  The cops can be charged with the more intricate crowd control and such.  You can keep the entire food system of the country secure for the cost of completely controlling just one large city ( to effectively control it you need to occupy and pacify, urban combat style.  Far easier to blow a line of rubble as a primary wall, giving a clear DMZ for air and SAW’s at each road closure or checkpoint ).

There is not enough manpower to control the population IN their areas of occupancy.  But you can contain them, keep them from leaving, keep them from traveling.  You don’t even need to do THAT.  You just cut the electricity and any fuel shipments are halted.  You set up token road blocks which act as tripwires.  The people get past the city limits and they are targets on the roads, fair game for having illegally departed.  You can declare martial law and declare any roads or rails or anywhere out of the city limits off limits.  Then, a couple of grunts guarding a rail car line full of wheat can shoot on sight  no questions asked.  The key point in all of this is that our food supply is in effect already sufficiently centralized so that it is easily controlled.  The population issue is not insurmountable.  You bring the wraith of the FedGov down hard on the very few conglomerates that control food production, processing and distribution and they cooperate swimmingly and in a week of memo writing, company dictates, troop relocation and reinforcement and you have nationalized the food supply.

It just takes one false flag attack and the justification appeases those involved.  All the cross-purposes and jurisdictional infighting assure the Feds that there won’t be a military coup taking over the new system ( local cops, county sheriffs, state cops, state National Guards, federal cops all work for different masters and can’t be co-opted behind the scenes easily ), especially if the lawyers start putting everyone on the new centralized payroll.  If travel is forbidden ( and it will be, bug-outters ) and controlled, if electricity is used as a weapon as well as the food, if the feds control purse strings, nationalizing the food supply is one other “kick the can down the road” strategy prior to complete collapse.  They have enough troops for that.  Fear lack of food, not home to home searches or street by street occupying troops ( although AFTER they control the food those most likely will commence at least on a roving basis ).

COPS OR FOOD 2

Complex societies always increase complexity as a coping mechanism for resource contraction.  Since they can’t replace the resource, they substitute a less desirable product.  When the economy crashes and taxes disappear, you hyperinflate.  When the droughts come, you try to enlarge the huge reservoirs.  When you increase the workers to decrease wages, because you can’t increase your customers so you lower your costs, you lower standards to accommodate the decreasing skill sets, all the while increasing HR costs and liability insurance to cope with more workers.  And when skills are degraded you increase the training needed as a band-aid, to fool yourself and others your workers are not lower grade.  The military and LEO’s are now like this, the standards ever increasing even as the increased training does nothing.  Because the training is book learning and the reality on the street is ignored in favor of an Ivy Tower reality, standards in reality slip towards bottom as on paper they are perfected.

Insisting that officers in the military receive college degrees rather than move up through the ranks provides a book smart leadership utterly ignorant on how to fight, how to lead, how to learn or how to do anything not rigidly defined by a bureaucratic manual.  Insisting that the police officer on the beat receive college rather than experience or on the job training, you have a very book smart wimp unable to be a peace officer but able to overreact in levels of force or operate in swarming attacks due to his ineptitude.  Add PC crap into that mix and it just gets exponentially worse.  This is just a complex system getting more complex as it fails and the trend cannot be reversed as that is simply not the nature of organisms struggling to fight.  You NEVER try a new way to survive as that is counterproductive.  You always use tactics that worked helping you survive before.  And centralizing and increasing complexity is how all our systems organizations were both founded and what provided success before in daily operations.  If a farmer always produced enough food by plowing, he sure as God made little green apples won’t try French Intensive methods during a famine.  He’ll plow and plow extra if possible.  So a organization like the Army doesn’t change its methods during war, it does MORE of what worked last time.  Changing strategies is dangerous.

The US conquered most of the world with a central bank, burning lots of oil, mechanizing everything while managing everything with corporate top down heavily centralized bureaucratic cultures.  Now that the oil supply is contracting, and has been doing so for nearly fifty years, we’ve lost the abundant oil and industrial aspect and are only left with financing and bureaucracy.  So we get more and more of those two survival strategies.  It doesn’t matter that they are blatantly inappropriate for all the problems we are seeing, because survival strategies by definition do not allow innovation.  You repeat what worked in the past.  Period.  This is how we are hardwired and why those striving to change the system are attacked.  That is why we won’t change to save the planet or change to save the empire.  Those systematic approaches that would save the in place system are diametrically opposite of what allowed the system to be established.  And if a system is an organism, it fights for survival as it is.

So don’t expect education reforms to succeed and don’t expect common sense to be followed.  Every profession will fight for its survival by increasing minimum certification standards to exclude more upstarts, or increase the promotion of its old members ( the already hired get paid more to attend college courses or Time Served certification and the newcomers must shoulder that cost personally ).  College standards are corroded by dilution-the more students admitted the less is taught even if the time learning increases-as more are forced to get certification and every new generation possessing more college has less and less knowledge.  By adopting the principle of higher college training prior to becoming an officer or a police officer, less and less positions can be filled due to up front costs incurred by the prospective applicant.  It is the same principle as factory workers commuting cost.  When Ford started cranking out cars, the auto companies provided transportation.  When that was shifted to the worker, you suddenly had a new up front cost of commuting just to be able to work ( this is a modest cost, not comparable to the three year gross salary a college education requires, but is illustrative ).

And how about health care?  It used to be provided by the employer.  All these extra costs keep being off-shored from the company to the employee.  Commute, retirement, health care and now training.  Training shouldn’t be rocket science.  The company pays you to train and you are obligated to stay X number of years, otherwise you must pay them back.  But that doesn’t protect all the interests increasing standard requirements.  All those organizations profiting off more of what worked for them in the past.  So reform is impossible.  Now, when you increase the cost of something, obviously you get less of it sold.  Increased costs to become a police officer mean you get less cops.  Or, more people wanting to be cops but have no aptitude but do have money for the increased schooling requirements.  Even as more need college, less are capable of performing the job correctly.  Peace officers must have a certain temperament and native skill set.  LEO’s just need to have a bureaucratic mindset, an ability to blindly follow orders.

All this translates to having a lot of very expensively trained cops, but not enough to do the job of public order.  They need to be paid far more to compensate for the training and so overall you get to have less.  And those you have are nowhere near as effective.  Because book learning replaces standards.  Certificates replace experience.  Greed replaces vocation.  Or worse, job/retirement security, the bureaucrat disease, replaced civic duty or dedication.  And since the leadership is even worse, political certificate holders, not trade practitioners, the few competent ones are blocked, dissuaded, emasculated, overruled or ignored.  A paper tiger, overall.  And this will effect the public in the collapse.  Continued.

SILVER LINING 2

If you accept that the supply of gold and silver will soon be falling from the ore running out, then the price increases from that alone will be substantial.  India, even while no where near the fabled BRIC economic power that was a short lived phenomenon as partially reported by boots on the ground at the Green Mountain blog, still has a lot of its wealth tied up in silver.  And China, even if a fading coal powered export juggernaut of old, still has far more economic power than we do and is busy buying up as much gold as it can as a national strategy.  So those two, the wealthy classes in India ( which might be shrinking but still with a billion friggin folks over there is still a sizeable number of consumers ) and the Chinese leadership which even if somewhat retarded still means their retarded engineers beat our retarded lawyers, will bring a lot of pressure on the demand side as the supply side shrinks.  Gold and silver will go up in price.  Even if nothing else, even if we only repeated the last decade and only extraction costs rose, the prices will increase.  Buying now just means you beat the price of increased energy needed for mining.

But, aside from a fall in supply and an increase in extraction price, there is the banker elite manipulating the prices as they do with all the other markets they are able to ( the Seven Sisters of oil, now less than seven, are in big trouble and control little in the way of oil anymore ).  To these bastards, silver and gold in electronic form are just another sandbox toy to make profits off of.  Right now, there is 233 ounces of gold in electronic trading for every ONE physical piece.  Silver is about double that.  The thinking goes that the price is kept near mining extraction cost in order to minimize the cost of those physical assets ( while at the same time the companies extracting are also being financially manipulated to keep THAT cost artificially lowered.  Mining boom towns are in for a VERY rough ride very soon ) as well as to keep the precious metals from becoming a store of wealth, pushing more assets into the stock market where it can then be manipulated into more assets for more derivatives profits.  It is a dangerous house of cards the banks are constructing.

The mine goes deeply into debt and plays such games as raiding pension funds to pay dividends to increase the stock price which increases the debt, etcetera, to keep extraction costs lower ( which increases short term profits at the expense of long term viability-a corporate staple right now ) which allows the bankers to buy more to leverage their electronic metal into more trades.  If you are making millions on each nickel move on silver or every dollar move on gold, you care a lot more about the minute swings than a individual buying a few coins for a rainy day fund.  If you own a million ounces and can leverage that into four hundred million ounces of trades e-silver, and the price moves earn you a nickel ( it could be less, this is an arbitrary figure ) an ounce, you would try to leverage that into 450 million ounces for a much tidier profit each day.  Then you’d take that extra profit and buy more derivatives bets on the other financial bets you have.  Banks aren’t making money on you and me being in debt.  Our disposable income has dropped.  They are riding the derivatives markets.

Banks have had to lower the interest they collect on debts.  That is the only way that a federal government earning two trillion a year buy spending three or four can keep borrowing more money to keep paying the interest on the old loans.  That is the trouble over in Greece and Italy and Portugal.  The interest on the old loans was decreased so they could still pay the interest ( forget the principle.  That will never be repaid ) yet they are in such debt and earning so little that they are still in financial trouble.  And our poor friends the central bankers are earning LESS as the interest rates are lowered in desperation.  Which, isn’t JUST greed.  They took such an asset wipe out in 2008 that they have little choice to stay afloat than playing in the derivatives markets for profit and asset replacement.  Yes, of COURSE they are still paying insane bonuses and such, that is just how bankers roll.  But a lot is desperation.

When your E silver is five hundred to one physical, and your gold is 233 to 1, you are in 2007 real estate backed securities territory.  You are in Orange County.  Derivatives bets always blow up in your face past a certain point.  We can argue that this is not yet that point.  But it WILL happen.  And when it does, your physical precious metals will go from just above extraction cost to Emergency Store Of Wealth cost.  When all your electronic assets such as savings accounts and pensions and stocks go to near worthless, folks with wealth run to gold and the peons with jobs run to silver.  If you think $20 and $1200 are bad now ( and they are compared to twenty years ago ), just wait.  The price will go a lot higher.  And that is even without government dollar inflation.  Which could be an entirely unrelated force.  As could the rejection en masse of the PetroDollar.  And this is good news.  It means precious metals are at last free from central bank manipulation which kept prices artificially low.

The Chinese might love low priced gold, a gift from our bankers, but it helps out those bankers as well.  As well as the prepper with extra cash.  So if you can buy now, you’ll need to own very little if the value is about to increase.  The real value, not the dollar price.  Because we are almost at the end of too much more mining.  And because the price is way too low historically speaking ( just as wheat is ).  Lower supply and increased demand.  What you have on hand will be equal to having ammo after the civilization collapse.  And just a reminder if for some bizarre reason you read this second part of the article but not the first, PM buying is the LAST of your preps.  Also, thanks to SRS Rocco Report web site for the usual flow of priceless information.

COPS OR FOOD

For eleven years now doing various blogs ( Bison blog 2006 to 2012,  James M Dakin blog the next two years, current blog 2014 to until I die because there were convoluted but ultimately unnecessary reasons to change blogs ) I have always had to fight the issue of article ideas.  Whether five, six or seven days a week, eleven years of blogs is a lot of friggin articles to come up.  At a minimum, five days a week and at most a once a month idea repeat and let’s be generous and call it several articles being two or three part-ers, you have at least fifteen new subjects to cover a month.  We are going on two thousand unique ideas by now.  Now, obviously, there are probably not that many sub-genres in the survivalism or preparedness field, but there are probably many more than that of minute details that can be covered.  But even so, 2k different subjects is an exhausting accomplishment.  I don’t think I’ve ever NOT written every advertised day.  Guest articles have been, if not every single time than 99%, extra articles rather than replacing the daily scheduled article.   I don’t get other people to write my stuff, which to me is a far greater accomplishment than saying my blog has posted every day since forever like some do.

I’ve tried many different ways of trying to alleviate this bottleneck, from reducing the word count so as to explore ideas you can’t stretch out so far, to cutting the days of the week I post to, or, currently, making almost every article a multiple day posting ( five part articles are too long, I grant you, and will be henceforth kept as BBB books.  But two to three part’ers with a very rare four part series will stay standard ).  But now we have a new problem.  No, not that Amazon commissions are now cut by a third.  Or that I have way too much time to write now ( I exhausted myself pre-posting a months worth of articles in anticipation of writing a novel.  Given I can easily write four times as much in a week now as I was doing while working a real job, I could have spat one out a month and still had time left over.  Alas, my brain completely refused, even with a solid outline.  I’m too wired for non-fiction, and if I don’t enjoy what I’m writing, I won’t do it.  My passion is why I’m as good as I am ).

No, the problem is that now I’m not stressed enough.  Without stress, I’m crap for incubating new ideas to write on.  I was burning at a red hot passion of hate and discontent and now I’m, well, relaxed and at peace.  I can write all day long until my tendon snaps off from one finger hunt and peck typing ( albeit a very fast pace after all this practice-when the ideas flow and mesh I can produce a thousand words finished draft in as little as fifty minutes.  With one finger typing ), but as usual my idea generator is problematic.  This is nothing new, as I’ve just explained.  But I do seem to be at a longer period between idea spurts.  A lot longer.  And I think it is because of my adrenaline flow subsiding.  I’ve been rather high strung for the last twenty-five years on a daily basis.  Initially I was stressed not getting laid but I was also drinking to blunt that and the workplace stress.  Then the Baby Momma came around in my mid to late twenties and we had kids and my stress levels went through the roof.

Not because of the kids, that was a good stress.  The four hours sleep a night followed by nine hour work shift and ten or eleven hour babysitting shift ( we worked opposite shifts to eliminate daycare.  It was the only affordable way and was priceless as it was my only intensive child bonding before the divorce took them away 80-90% of the time ) was nobodies idea of a good time but it wasn’t a health wrecking stress.  It was a “sense of great accomplishment” stress.  Anyone with kids that partakes in their care understands what I’m talking about.  Your memories might not be all that sharp by now but you remember the feeling if not the details getting it.  Of course, join in that good stress with the bad stress of a job and the worse stress of a relationship gone bad even prior to kids and your life takes on a rather dismal daily grind which is fine at first but after decades starts wearing you down.  I went from mildly stressed all the time to hyper-stressed every day without letup.  If the job didn’t suck as much the relationship with the current wife got worse.   If the current wife was wonderful ( the current NOL ), the job sucked worse and worse.  It was always some damn thing keeping me high strung.

And then two months ago, after wearing down health-wise far too much ( even if I‘m fit and healthy for my age, I‘m still falling apart to a degree ), I had finally just had enough and said “hump it”.  Time to derail this life choice.  The job will disappear before I retire.  I might as well jump off the ship while it is still in port.  And now, my stress levels are back to pre-children levels ( but post-military and post-living at home ).  I don’t expect them to stay that way, as my life never seems to be stress free, or even stress-resistant ( I’m just too high strung ).  But for now, I’ve lost that burning red hot fire that helped so much in motivating my years long screeds and lambasting tirades.  I’m still motivated to write for fear of starving, and I still hate enough just on general principles that I won’t become soft or accommodating, but the edge I’ve had since I started in 1991 is somewhat blunted right now.  So my newest solution coming up with article ideas is to go back and mine my old blogs.

I won’t be re-posting.  The articles will be all new writing.  The idea will just be the same.  Exactly the same, with the only modifications being if the elapsed time changed any particulars.  I’m not real fond of this tactic as I’ve strived all along to keep things fresh, or as fresh as possible, but the show must go on and if I need remakes, like Hollywood, so be it.  I’m hoping this won’t be a daily thing, just an emergency stand-in, but you must remember that I’m now writing seven days a week blogging, AND monthly books.  I’m needing twice the ideas as previously ( and curiously, I’m not gaining any from article comments like I used to.  I went from 500 readers to 750-I had gotten to 1200 after Ol’ Remus posted links to me but those frittered away back down to a steady 700 plus-yet I’m getting less comments than ever.  I hope that doesn’t mean everyone hates the new articles ).  So, the first “re-make”, food control to substitute for the police state lacking enough agents to control events.  Continued.
