cop tribe 1 of 2

COP TRIBE

I hope you fear the police.  And I’ll explain why.  But first, a little background.  My father was a cop most of his twenty years to a pension ( he started out in youth corrections ).  My best friend growing up had a father in the Sheriff’s department ( he was also a junior pig [ Explorer ] and then became a cop ).  And of course I was an MP in the Army.  I didn’t have an aptitude for it, being far too analytical and not reactive enough, but they didn’t test for that and I had to figure it out on my own.  I might not have been a “real” cop, but I know the culture enough to comment on it.  Most likely, had I been a LEO outside the military, I would be TOO close to the culture to judge it without prejudice, so there is that.

*

Most cops are not bad people.  Most are professionals ( you only ever really hear about the bad ones, don’t you? ).  Most joined the job to help people.  But just as the Catholics started out really good and then became politically corrupted, the police can start out with the best intentions and then bend under the institutions demands.  And when that institution was decent, this wasn’t an issue.  The fact that it isn’t today is more a reflection on our society than it is about the character of law enforcement.  Plus, the police are a tribe.  They used to be a national tribe but now are splintered.  These two fundamentals are why police are now feared rather than revered.

*

I’m not concerned with their appointed power.  Everybody understands power dynamics, since you had and are parents, were married, have a boss and etcetera.  You understand that in ANY relationship, those with power can use it arbitrarily.  A cop can easily screw with you or make your life difficult.  So can your boss or the wife or even your child.  The only difference between cops back in the day and now is that society wasn’t as dysfunctional.  Cops still had the potential to abuse their power but didn’t have to.  Today, it a lot of situations they must, if only to continue to keep the peace.

*

A lot has been made of the abuse of police power to advance themselves economically ( asset forfeiture laws, primarily, the continued abuse with the War On Drugs ), but this ignores that everybody is pretty much doing the same thing.  To include the central bank and its minions nearly controlling the entire federal government ( too esoteric for you?  How about the private corporation that got the local government to seize private citizens land so they could build a factory on their spot of choice? ) to keep making obscene profits.  Where do you think the interest payments on the national debt go?

*

The Detroit auto makers not only get bailouts ( don’t act so noble your favorite, Ford, didn’t get one.  They applied the first time, didn’t get one, then made themselves out to be hero’s when they didn’t take one while GMC and Italiano Chrysler did.  They are just as big of weasels ), they double the price on cars mostly made by robots or Mexican Nationals, while devolving quality exponentially.  They aren’t stealing and manipulating, also?  Everyone is so busy screwing everyone else ( when was the last time you got a raise, even after you’d doubled your productivity.  Again ) and it isn’t even barely registered anymore by anyone.  Unless it is the cops.

*

Who in a lot of cases don’t even steal extra money but rather get the extra, then see their budget decreased the same amount.  The city or county are the ones taking advantage economically of asset forfeiture.  The money they save goes to the retired politicians and similar boondoggles.  Now, please note that I’m not making excuses here.  Police abuse their power, and they screw over citizens economically.  Granted, they do and are.  All I’m trying to point out is that society as a whole, everyone in ANY position of power, is doing the exact same thing.

*

You may feel more betrayed by the police abusing their position, as you expect more from them, but in a world were you are not allowed to feed yourself on your own land, or in some cases drink the water that fell from the sky, everyone has little choice but to rely on the almighty dollar.  The police cannot do as they do out of charity.  They are faced with money conundrums just like the rest of us.  They are also just as human as the rest of us and fall prey to greed and hate and the desire for vengeance, or the allure of sloth.  In a world surrounded by all institutions surviving off of theft, how long do the police stand by the old ideals?

*

But of course, that is only a superficial change.  Obviously, when society goes from stable to declining, you are going to see the police culture change from that of a peace keeping organization to that of law enforcement.  When you keep the peace, the laws are by necessity few and understood and agreed upon by most.  The laws reflect the cultural norm.  When society starts looting itself, all against all as the pie shrinks, those in power hijack the law to benefit themselves.  I don’t mean that the elite haven’t always controlled the law as a profit center.  I mean, duh, right?  Of course they wrote the laws enriching themselves.

*

The difference in a collapse is that once the profits start shrinking, the elite rewrite the laws to now take away more from the people.  The Great Depression was a good example.  It wasn’t a systemic collapse, just an economic one, but it still illustrates a point.  By “Going Socialist”, the private companies were spared a lot of expense of supporting workers.  Not that they ever did, treating workers as disposable cogs, but due to social unrest, either they or the government was going to need to actually pay a living wage.

*

The fact that the taxpayers themselves got to pick up the tab for their own needs tells you how much any private company gives a hoot.  Of course, it eventually bit Germany in the ass, restricting executive pay with equitable wages and giving Unions say on the boards of directors ( the bankers showed them, by flooding the country with low wage welfare class Muslims ), but for many generations their economy remained stable because the corporations were NOT allowed to run roughshod over workers.  Here in the Land Of The Free, it is de rigeur.

*

By focusing on laws by the elite rather than laws based on cultural consensus, all assets previously shared with the workers is now forcibly taken back.  As this process continues, everything goes from the intent of the law to the letter of the law.  There is a huge difference between the two.  One demands justice and the other demands manipulation at will ( “what is the definition of ‘is’?” ).  The police no longer enforce peace, the intent of the law, but enforce the letter of the law which has been manipulated past social control then to asset stripping now.  The police have little to do with this, as the government controls the police and the elite control the government.

*

I’ll continue tomorrow, exploring the culture dynamic within the police and how it has changed.

coasties protect food 2 of 2

COASTIES PROTECT FOOD 2

In the first part, I mentioned that the Coast Guard is protecting one third of all our refined fuel and a quarter of our oil imports from terrorists.  Well, they might be protecting the fuel supply from Muzzie extremists, but they will of course be end-runned by the very Deep State that controls them, and a false flag attack will be staged there ( although no real damage will be done ), and then the Coasties will be there to protect the fuel from the American public.  Who are, you know, now under complete lock down.

*

I would imagine that at about the time our fracking fields Seneca Cliff, a false flag attack on Houston is staged.  Then, to protect the American public from itself, the oil is nationalized and rationing goes into effect.  Remember what I said about it was going to be about food control, not gun control?  This would be the way to do it.  And remember what I said about a failing system in energy decline cannot build new infrastructure but must use the old, no matter how inefficient?  Why do you think the National Guard is being sent to the border, rather than a wall being constructed ( I mean, besides the obvious fact the Trump is a state stoolie )?

*

And why do you think you saw mandatory health insurance, or that the mortgage industry is now insured by the government?  Privatize profits and socialize expenses.  The bankers aren’t asking for a direct bail-out this time, to prevent public backlash, but the insurance industry IS the bankers industry and by bailing out the insurance people you are bailing out the banks.  So when oil is nationalized, there will still be private profits, but the government will now guarantee those profits.  The failing middle class cannot buy the gasoline in volume, so get the government to do so.

*

See?  This stuff isn’t rocket science.  The government uses its control over mortgages to keep housing profits artificially propped up ( since the bankers can’t lose money, just like pre-2007 ).  And by controlling the distribution and security of all fuel it can create price hikes and increased profits.  It isn’t just about the retail price of gasoline, but about every product bought and sold using energy.  If energy prices increase, food prices increase, making food far more expensive and then all the people selling food make more money which allows them to stay in business and-very important point here-pay back their bankers loans.

*

And when food quadruples in price, far more folks go on Food Stamps, which requires their recipients to do such things as turn in semi-automatic weapons, or sign up for compulsory weight loss programs, or put in community service hours, or eat more vegetables or any damn thing else the scary Left people want.  See how easy that is?  Just by having our Hailed Hero’s the Coast Guard already in place to protect our fuel supply, the government is one step removed from controlling all your actions through Food Control.  How are you liking that centralized and industrialized food system now?  Were those $4 steaks at the casino worth it?

*

Those closely of our ilk always lament the Soviet fabricated famine in the Ukraine, while all the while getting rigid wood over our free enterprise economy.  Yet, our food is controlled by a few companies controlling our oil and farms.  All that needs to be done for a Soviet style starvation is for the government to step in and take over control.  Or, hell, just start supervising, with representatives from the banking industry as the right hand man to that project.  Food might well be the very next banker bubble when the medical, fracking and housing bubbles pop.  Do you see how researching Peak Oil ties in, now?

*

Here’s an alternate scenario.  The fracking industry has been in a financial bubble for some time.  It never made a profit.  All it did was to keep the liquid fuel for transportation ( just-in-time inventory, anyone? ) volume from falling.  But how about if the port of Houston false flag attack is allowed to succeed?  Actually reduce our oil imports ( which will fall anyway, as the PetroDollar is close to over and done ) by a quarter, and our refined fuels by a third?  Can you see the profits and government control in that?  If you can’t, you’re not an evil asshat banker.

*

Remember how the quadrupling of oil prices in the 1970’s benefited the bankers?  The economy went from industrialized to financial services pretty darn quick after that, and money went from product profits to printing alone.  Money went from gold backed to oil backed.  It was all the bankers economy from then on, and the people paid the price by liquidating their assets and signing up for lifetime debt servitude.  The last ten years was just a heavily compressed time frame in that-it had been ongoing for near fifty years.

*

Taking energy from relatively cheap to dear, once again, profit’s the bankers.  The government benefits, but the bankers profit.  Just because high energy prices crash the economy doesn’t really matter.  The economy is imploding anyway.  By sacrificing more of the peoples wealth, the corporations and bankers stay alive a little bit longer.  They don’t care if you can’t afford to commute to work, the profit will come from the government rather than workers creating profit.  Did Microsoft make a profit from giving away their latest turd of an OS?  Of course not.  The NSA paid them for each download, I’m sure.

*

Amazon makes it’s profit, in part, with Post Office subsidized shipping, and Free Rider Internet for streaming.  Companies are making money off the government, not off the dying class of consumers.  Now, yes, consumers will contribute some.  Electricity prices will shoot up, and even with heavy conservation ( my goodness, I trust as a prepper, you understand the coming necessity of energy conservation ) their bills will still rise.  Mo’ Profit!  You can only eat so much less, so Mo Money!  But the big profits are going to be from the government.  The Free Crap Army in the ghetto’s are pikers compared to the government money already going to the bankers and corporations, with much more in store.

*

Food control is coming.  You can count on that, regardless of the form it takes.  Communication control and gun control are less certain, but also less important, as far as that boot on your face.

coasties protect food 1 of 2

COASTIES PROTECT FOOD

There are some occupations that command respect.  Firefighters, except for a few heavily Unionized big city departments or run by those idiots that insist on diversity rather than merit, are overwhelmingly volunteer organizations ( at least in the Red areas we care about rather than the Quisling HQ’s ).  Some occupations loudly insist that we respect them.  Teachers might be underpaid, unlike the admins who run the bureaucracies, but there was never anything noble about compulsory indoctrination.  You could argue that an educated populace is a better, more civilized one, but then you could make that kind of argument for any kind of policy from a dictator.  I mean, hey, Stalin modernized Russia’s economy, so those Gulags were okay, right?

*

Some occupations deserve respect even if they might not seem to.  Being a cop is a thankless job.  There is that 10% on the force who are incompetent bullies who make you look bad, the boss is a politician with no grounding in reality, and the law makes you a baby-sitter and a arbitrator of behavior you waste most of your time on rather than your primary purpose of keeping the peace.  You are also co-opted by the FedGov Goons to enforce their hegemony.  The stress does your body no favors.  Not to say you can trust cops, because you can’t.  They have no loyalty to you and are their own tribe.  Belonging to a tribe automatically excludes outsiders.  Nothing personal, but that is what it is.

*

Some occupations deserve zero respect, but receive way too much.  I’m specifically thinking of Coasties, members of the Coast Guard.  I’ve always had a bit of a jaundiced eye towards the accolades they receive, just from their participation in the War On Drugs.  The Army makes no pretense that their job is to kill you.  The Coast Guard hides behind search and rescue to command respect, without acknowledging their roll in filling drug boats full of fifty cal holes.

*

I know a lot of you will start hating me now ( not sure why it took so long ) because I dared question the motive of those selfless hero’s who risk their lives saving drowning sailors.  But let’s look at this from another point of view.  If the police were allowed to fire upon a fleeing vehicle suspected of carrying drugs, then in their spare time worked SAR ( search and rescue ) in the forest, are they asswhores or good guys?  They might believe themselves to be pure and holy, but actions should speak louder than words.  Hitler honestly thought he was saving his people from the greedy banker Jews ( and unlike most politicians, was there to help, not profit ).  Oh, Hell No!  Did he just go there?

*

I’m not likening Coasties to Hitler, so relax.  I’m merely saying that if the Germans thought they were defending themselves ( like we do, drone attacking wedding parties in the middle east ), but were judged evil, shouldn’t all be judged on actions rather than intentions or motivations?  What is good for the goose is indeed fitting for the gander.  I just read an amusing little ditty, going something along the lines of “people don’t think rationally, they merely rationalize their prejudices”.  Damn, I should have copied that one down, along with its source.

*

Now, what got me all worked up into a lather over the Coast Guard, besides just my normal propensity to hate ( which is a superior survival skill, FYI )?  There was an article about the port of Houston over at Energy Skeptic dotcom, and the threat of terrorist attacks ( 3-29-2018, to write the date in American rather than commie ).  Our bestest buddies the Coast Guard was, along with the county sheriffs, tasked with protecting us against terrorists attacks.  Okay, this is all fine and dandy.  25% of all our imported oil comes through Houston, and a third of ALL our crude refining happens here.  If Houston goes, so, literally, goes the economy.  It will almost be as bad as an EMP attack.

*

So, the US Coast Guard, our hero’s, right?  I should apologize right now, right?  Well, let’s settle down for a second, first.  Remember, it was the Coasties that sold their souls in the War On Drugs.  Nobody comes out smelling like roses once they dip their beak into the bloody body parts profit of combating drugs.  Oh, forgive me, I forgot. It’s for the children!  By all means, let’s suspend the Constitution.  And the Bill Of Rights.  Which include the second amendment.  Just saying.  If they collected their thirty pieces of silver once, they will do it again.  And they did, in the War On Terrorism.  None of those combatants are very clean of soul, either.

*

( and to be clear, just as I absolve the rank and file in the military of any involvement of occupation or colonization, I also don’t blame the lower ranks in the Coast Guard.  Puppets and pawns, put to the rack if disobeying.  And at their tender age, they don’t know crap anyway.  The leadership, yes, those I blame.  And if you went career, you are part of the leadership, more often than not )

*

First, the “noble and just and pure” organization spent lots of time combating drugs.  Now they do that and combat terrorism.  But here is the thing.  You can’t blame drugs for peoples stupidity and you can’t blame freedom fighters in foreign lands for a false flag event here.  Both wars are just government wars against her own people.  The next logical step, for the warriors from both conflicts, is outright oppression of the population.  No more pretending, no more velvet glove over an iron fist.  Just pure combat against all who oppose.

*

And the Coast Guard, already being stationed at the energy choke point, will be one of the first to help suppress the American people.  For to feed the people, you first need fuel.  Control the fuel, control the food.  Hail, valiant oppressors!  I’ll continue tomorrow.

who's on first? 2 of 2

WHO’S ON FIRST? 2

Food First, because housing gets easier with salvage and conquest.  Protection gets easier as everyone else uses up their ammunition while you hid and conserved yours.  But food gets harder as we go along.  Every day some selfish pig pops out another screaming starving spawn in another craphole already a failed state ( Africa, middle east, California ).  And every day some greedy pig paves over more farmland or turns it into ethanol, and there is less land to feed the new people.  The marginal farmland in arid regions ( some parts of India, Arizona and California, alternating years with Texas or Pakistan ) begin failing as the once constant water supply does.

*

This is not to say that as time goes on you won’t see any issues with ammunition or construction supplies.  You will.  Failing systems see failing trade.  Just as the end of both the Greeks and the Romans started with soil degradation, moved on to currency debasement and finished off with the shutdown of imports, so will the American empire fail as she cannot get the oil needed to grow her own food ( the soil is already crap ), irrigate or transport the centralized food system ( grain belt to the two coasts ).  The end of other commodities being traded goes along with that.

*

But while you should be already self-sufficient in defense, if for no other reason than it almost looks like the supreme moronic retards of the universe might actually try for gun control, and shelter is easy enough as long as you lower your expectations, our food production system gets worse every year.  You can stock up on ammo and build shelter now, and in theory that is a One Off event that will last you forever, food is a daily concern.  All other human endeavors throughout history, to include the need to reproduce, takes a back seat to eating everyday.  Even nature agrees.  You can hump until your rib showing protruding belly yellowed eyed famine ravaged body no long has the energy for it, but long before that the female will abort a fetus if she is malnourished.

*

Every day that draws us closer to the die-off degrades the soil that much more.  Erodes the soil that much more.  Saturates the soil with more poisons from Bayer ( I think it was the German pharma giant that bought Monsanto ).  Sprinkles magic unicorn dust from Fukishima.  Every day the soil we need to grow crops locally in the near future is paved over and turned into McMansions for the very same humpers that are generating mere pennies of profit per ecological disaster, but need every penny they can get to send their offspring to college to learn the plundering trade.

*

And, has everyone forgotten how important weather used to be?  None of us farm, and all of us luxuriate on the couch in our Hello Kitty underwear staring at 500 channels of commercials, in the middle of winter, eating Yak Testicle flavored Dorito’s.  We start our SUV remotely in the morning and by the time we get from the door to the car our bare legs between flip-flops and shorts barely register the real temperature.  Weather, whether caused by Al Gore or by Sol, or by the Alien Overlord Green Lizard Gods, is changing to a routine of extreme events.  Drought followed by flood, polar vortexes randomly thrown in.  Does that bode well for your food supply to come on the farm?

*

Once you get an ammo supply, the odds never change.  You’ll either live to use it or you won’t.  Probably, “won’t”.  Preppers seem to have a rather casual hankering of odds and probabilities ( I know my own personal odds are bad.  But knowing is only half the battle, Joe ).  If your shelter is adequate for your climate ( as opposed to adequate for On Grid ), in theory you are insulated enough to not exhaust your nearby wood supply.  To which, I might add, you would be well served to do the historical opposite and gather the fuel from furthest away FIRST, rather than last.  You’ll have metal tools and mechanical conveyances ( bicycle, wheel barrow with synthetic rubber inflated tire ) and extra calories to do so.  Then, as you lose body fat, and food storage, and transportation, you’ll have the nearer supply.  Just saying.

*

But your food supply situation just grows worse.  The soil starts out worse than now.  The weather has gotten worse.  And you keep depleting the soil further since you didn’t store enough grain.  Nobody starves as they improve the soil condition.  They keep drawing down its fertility so as to keep eating.  Even if you are religious about adding back to the soil, you are still starting out at a deficit, and you need the extra inputs to be available to begin with.  Nightsoil isn’t a great solution, nor is it enough in most cases.  Almost without exception, farming is a long term negative energy supply.

*

If you are not in a river valley that deposits minerals from upstream ( or the equivalent with volcanic ash ), you don’t do net soil fertility ( even the biochar solution needs wood input ).  With enough food storage, you can wait while you build up your soil again, and have enough surplus land to continue to feed your farmland extra organics.  If you don’t, you rapidly deplete already hurt soil.  Most of the US rural South, the one place with extra water and vegetation, was depleted centuries ago from corn and tobacco, and if used today is dead soil saturated with artificial fertilizer and pesticides ( plus, might be dependent on Corps Of Engineers mega-projects for flood control ).

*

With the future clear aspect of population growth and increasing idiocy going hand in hand, have plenty of ammunition.  With the lack of petroleum inputs and grid power, build appropriately.  And with the problematic food future clear as a bell, don’t skimp of food.  Then store more.  Then add some to that.  You might not consider wheat a suitable apocalypse food, but once that is all you have you’ll think, what a wonderful thing to have.  For the price of one case of soup with marginal calories, you can have over three months supply of calories.  Come famine and farm failure, you’ll wonder why you ever questioned it.

who's on first?

WHO’S ON FIRST?
*
note: a hearty high-ho and thanks a million, J.R., for the wonderful snail mail donation.
*
Not too long ago, in an article far away, I made the comment that Food Is First.  Minions disagreed.  They said that shelter comes first.  It isn’t that I disagree with this correction, but the record must be set straight.  What is more important?  Food or shelter or protection?  Most prepper might say any number of things, but their actions clearly state that protection is first, as the size of their arsenals clearly establish.  Most minions seem to have their priorities better established, having just as many guns BUT also stocking other non-firearm accessories to go along with them.

*

Most minions seem to be better prepared in shelter rather than in food, and that should be no surprise.  You are living in your shelter already, as a non-survivalist worker bee.  Turning that into a dwelling better able to withstand Grid-Down Peak Oil Economic Depression, doing that survivalist thang, is a lot sexier than food storage.  It has immediate payback, such as lower heating bills from insulation or non-chlorinated water for the garden from a rain catchment system.  Then followed by guns, because they are fun and you need to protect your dwelling and any food you happen to have.  So food usually comes last.

*

Now, look, when I say Food First, obviously it does little good to have a pile of five gallon buckets that you turn into a fort underneath the highway overpass as you are homeless and cold.  Shelter does seem to command your undivided attention first.  You can’t eat your food if you are frozen to death ( or in Spud’s case, since he is always warm, eaten by a alligator first ).  And the priority here and now is shelter first.  You can always get Food Stamps, so a place to cook that free food and staying warm is a priority currently.  My main contention when I state Food First is that as far as prepping, food becomes far more difficult with time, while the shelter and defense gets easier.

*

Obviously you need all three at the same time.  You need a place out of the weather where you cook and store your food, and you need to protect both your food and shelter.  And on a severely challenged budget you can provide all three for well under a thousand dollars each.  Shelter can be as simple as a piece of junk land and a ferrocement dome.  If you are really poor you find a remote corner of uninhabited land and dig a hole and cover it with a ferrocement roof, then cover with dirt.  Under a hundred bucks.  Protection can be as cheap as a $100 shotgun, or as luxurious as a $400 bolt action hunting rifle.  And food is as affordable as wheat at $22 a hundred pounds, stored in discarded plastic food containers.  Well, throw in a $44 Corona grinder.

*

If you are homeless right now, just panhandling would provision you with the wire and cement, a couple of bucks at Home Depot for wood for a bow and arrow ( or, a garage sale fiberglass bow, or turn that into a prod for a crossbow ), and the wheat in whatever quantity.  Prepping supplies is NOT the problem.  All three of the basics are beyond cheap right now ( if you avoid the rush prior to the panic.  Once that happens, it is Good Night Irene.  Everything I’ve written, almost, at least about stockpiling, becomes null and void.  You simply MUST panic early.

*

Yes, you could prioritize strangely, such as thinking you need $60k in land and too big of a home ( to appease the wife and to appease your delusion that you can grow enough broccoli in denuded soil to feed yourself after the grocery stores close ), or believing that eight grand in semi-autos is just the start of an arsenal, and then you have trouble completely all three basic areas ( which I think is what happens to most folks ).  My personal prioritizing is to go bare bones arsenal and shelter and then go all out in bare bones food.  But that is just me.  But even that ( favoring one of the three ) ignores the base issue.  Which is that defense and shelter is easy and food is not.

*

Do you remember the book “Pulling Through” by Dean Ing?  It has been many years since I last reread that one, but I seem to recall the character had a limited time to prepare for a nuclear attack for whatever reason.  He had a backhoe dig a long trench, and then roofed it over.  Details elude me here, other than it was very narrow, but the point was you didn’t need money, per se.  It wasn’t the ideal of poured concrete bunkers.  It was a Better Than Nothing that did little except get the immediate job on hand done.

*

It was thinking outside the box, replacing money with creativity.  Shelter is always easy, unless you look at it through stick built mortgages.  But the reason I say shelter gets easier is because even if you start out small and improvised given time you always improve it with just sweat equity.  Again, remember, I’m NOT saying do one over another.  I’m acknowledging you need all three at once.  But you don’t need much shelter now, as it can be improved on later.  Cheaper.  Going minimalist now, in the face of finances and zoning, then becomes easier with scrounging and the ability to claim free land later.  Shelter gets easier.

*

In theory, with protection, as more people die off and more people use up all their ammunition, it becomes easier to defend yourself.  Rather than spending all that money up front on semis and mags and ammo, you can minimize that expense by planning on hiding out rather than fighting ( let’s face facts-the more ammo you need and the more you need to fight makes you more vulnerable.  Don’t move now at your own risk ).  Using your ammo later rather than sooner means you need less.  And planning from the start to use less ammo than the Spray And Pray boys, you increase your odds of survival since He Who Runs Out Of Ammo Last Wins.

*

Food now, that does NOT become easier with time.  I know all the Post-Apocalypse novels assume great trapping or hunting yields with population decline, abundant farming and an idyllic living once we return to the Constitution with all the pesky Other Races eliminated ( or, Other Religions, as your preference might be ), but that is all a load of domesticated animal feces, isn’t it?  The Constitution was an instrument of government centralization, organized religions are an instrument of organized control, and food is going to be harder rather than easier to produce in the near future.  Which, we’ll get into tomorrow.

middle california

MIDDLE CALIFORNIA

Wherein the degradation and collapse of the state of California is best understood as merely another rust belt city.  Having been born and raised in the state of California, I never saw the collapse of the place.  It was too close and too incremental, and I was too young to note the decline.  After I left for four years of military service, and having gotten an idea of how things were different elsewhere, only then did I realize the place had kind of gone to Hell without notice as I wasn’t looking.  Even Korea was in many ways, even being a dictatorship at the time, a nicer place.

*

I just watched a video on the “white flight” of the state, quite by accident.  Even today I am loath to view things through a racial lens-not because it is the politically correct thing to do but because my dad didn’t raise me that way and I have an immense respect for the man.  But once you translate that into tribe or cultural cohesion, then it makes perfect sense and leaves no bad taste behind.  It seems that only twenty years ago California was 50% White whereas now it is a mere 35%, where Hispanics are now up to 40%.  As the video said, it is now “their” state.

*

And while all of this demographic shifting has implications ( let them have the place, just leave Nevada be ), I was more struck by the economics of the situation ( although it was interesting to note that Compton had at one time been so lily white that the Bush family resided there ).  The video creator was in effect blaming those of color for trashing the place, but I was thinking that this was more a beachhead that was exploited after the economic implosion.  I was living there at the time, and didn’t realize the economic impact of the end of Cold War spending.  All I knew was that U-Haul was charging me several times normal as a lot of people were moving out of state.

*

I was moving with the semi gun weapons ban as an excuse, even though I had wanted to flee for some five years by that time.  I even tried prior to that and kids, but the culture shock was too much ( not so bad when we moved to Oklahoma-nice folks there.  I never considered I was reversing the Depression flow of migration ).  The economic collapse kind of went over my head there-and I had already started writing a survival newsletter/’zine.  Of course, in my defense, at that time I was more of a “one year to recovery “nuke era” prepper.  That quickly changed with research, but the simple undeniable fact was that I was oblivious to events ( of course, also in my defense, I had spent the last decade studying Austrian School economics and was hence learned wrong ).

*

Looking back now, I didn’t even have a clue how bad things were still to come.  When I was there, the climate still had a tinge of Middle Earth to it.  The dream of the middle class lifestyle with perfect scenery and weather thrown in had not yet died.  I imagine that is what the poor humpers still trapped there, lying to themselves how wonderful the place still is, still believe.  They must believe, with all their might, or be buried under a sea of despair.  Please sir, where do I sign up for an extra helping of delusion?

*

Least one forget, California used to be one of the globes largest oil producers.  That built the southern zone.  The Cold War spending and Hollywood brought all the wealth to the area now tied up in real estate nobody wanted to admit was worthless desert ( the LA real estate bubble has lasted about a hundred years-when it lasts that long, a delusion turns to a fable ).  I think the early 90’s Cold War spending implosion was just the straw that broke the camels back, but again I was once too close to view things properly, then after far away and turning a blind eye.  But if you view through the lens of failed economic states, ignoring the question of exact timing or causes, it makes sense WHY the state is how it is at this point ( military spending might have crashed the economy, Political Correctness is now driving a stake through its heart ).

*

If you look now at any Rust Belt city-Cleveland or Detroit, Buffalo or Milwaukee-they have been imploding since the ‘60’s.  Crime and racial tensions were there prior to the economic and oil supply shocks sending their lifeblood to Asia ( we were subsidizing Korean/Japanese steel industries even back to the ’50’s, as a stabilizer against communism.  If effect, we destabilized our own industrial economy for newer equipment, cheaper labor and geopolitics ), and exploded once the economy did.  Everything you saw and are seeing in now third world cities of our Rust Belt happened in California after about a thirty year pause.

*

Minions in California, please note.  I’m NOT saying you should flee right this minute.  I’m saying that even if certain areas ( cough, Oakland ) are already Third World economies with third world populations, you haven’t seen anything yet.  The whole state is headed that direction.  The Rust Belt cities experienced a flood of Blacks, but the entire STATE of California has been buried under a sea of Mexicans.  The eastern craphole cities are still surrounded by white enclaves.  The state of California, not just certain cities, will be a third world population center.  You don’t allow unrestricted immigration and then not turn into Muzzie London.

*

Look back East and see how once economically vibrant cities are foreigner infested slums now.  California is on that exact same path.  Perhaps some areas will remain untouched, other than ruinous taxes and regulations.  But those areas have no economy.  You should really be thinking of selling, now, while the bubble is still inflated in real estate.  When that sucker goes…

other ammo 2 of 2

OTHER AMMO 2 of 2

Even if you aren’t a survivalist, you stock the crap out of ammunition because the price will seriously rise again, completely independent of politics.  You notice when the SRS Rocco Report give you a heads up that a mine produced 20% less silver this year than last, what does that tell you?  It doesn’t matter about precious metals ( for our purpose of discussion here ).  It matters that the primary ore being extracted ( precious metals are in many, many mines a secondary ore ), as in, you know, COPPER, is either decreasing in availability or in demand.  You cannot count on lowest ammo prices to continue.

*

I’ve harped on Peak Copper before.  This is how shortages work.  You see one, prices skyrocket.  Customers cannot afford the new price, don’t buy, and suppliers go out of business.  Prices drop as the remaining suppliers fight for survival.  The increased demand from lower prices forces another price increase as supplies fall further.  You see the same thing in gasoline or rice or whatever.  During a famine, sure, food prices take on another dynamic.  But since we aren’t in a war, ammunition remains a discretionary spending item.  How many guys actually go out plinking anymore?  A nickel a round isn’t much for us stockpilers, but it isn’t a cheap entertainment anymore, is it?

*

Right before Peak Oil crashed the economy, rimfire ammo was one and a half to one and an eighth cent a round.  Even if you can afford to buy cases at four cents delivered, you are still looking at nearly three times the old cost.  What it used to cost back when everyone that wanted one could get a job, and usually a full time one at that.  With rent costs half and medical one fifth.  I think the only folks buying serious amounts of rimfire are preppers, and then only extra-serious preppers ( of which there are few ).  No wonder the price crashed-the industry finally got capacity back up to “nation full of plinkers” levels but no one could afford to go back plinking ( at least at the old levels-why do you think car makers are in trouble, even at twice the sticker price?  The numbers either stalled or dropped, in this economy only supports growth ).

*

So now that a nickel a round is back, the serious preppers are buying.  Which will once again put pressure on prices to rise, after current inventory dips.  But those buying only buy on low prices.  The whole modern economic model is broken-a sure sign of EROI contraction.  Remember, it was all rather simple ( see The Crash Course on You Tube ).  Interest on debt must be paid, which means money must constantly be added, and oil was money ( sorry, gold dudes ).  And now EROI is dropping.  Volume is NOT energy growth, positive net energy is.

*

To be clear, I’m not advocating anyone go out and buy Other Ammo ( ammo you’ll only use once the dry guns are discarded or bartered pennies on the dollar, which is now based on food and wheat is no longer twenty cents a pound but several bucks per [ NOT accounting for any inflation ] ) as an extra cost.   I’m saying, if you have the money and desire to buy another gun, please consider ammunition instead.  Even magazines are not the worst buy, IF and only if you are fairly certain you’ll soon have the weapon that uses it ( in other words, not as an investment thinking you’ll make a mint during a gun ban-that could very well happen, but the odds are lower than the near certainty of folks using semi’s running out of ammo quickly ).

*

Not to say that ammo isn’t is good investment item, just magazines to guns you don’t yet have.  But with ammo, you are ahead on several fronts.  You’ve bought when historically cheap ( relatively speaking ).  You’ve bought in case of a ban.  You’ve bought to resell at three times the price.  And you’ve bought for your free gun post-apocalypse.  You really can’t go wrong.  But mags are too much of a crap shoot.  They could ban all semi’s.  And with pistols, there is just too much variety out there.  So, ammo is a far better investment than magazines.

*

Even if you don’t buy for your future self, you can buy for your buddies.  Four hundred rounds of thirty cal hunting ammo for your friend will make him a semi-sniper for a very long time and add some value to his otherwise worthless ass.  As far as reloading supplies, I would recommend buying the factory brass ammunition now while it is cheap.  Once you have the cases, then you can go cheaper by buying reloading components to up the ammo count.  For the simple reason that when the ammo drought was here empty cases were selling for more than the actual ammo is now.  Loaded factory ammo now, in brass, then once you have enough cases for future use, components.  That would be my priority.

*

Should you buy steel case?  After all, you are getting free guns or are stocking for a friends gun.  So what do you care if the steel case screws up that guns extractor?  Or its primers are corrosive?  The price difference is 50%.  It all depends on if you reload, doesn’t it?  Me, I think you are making a problematic investment in the case of steel cases.  They are a short term solution, same as those MRE’s.  Really, they never should have gone any further than being used for AK’s and SKS’s ( even in the Mosin-Nagant they suck, as the round then doesn’t swell and seal.  Even present day manufacture should be suitable only for the semi sniper ).  You can sometimes if not always find or scrounge reloading components, but all the steel cases will be gone and you have given up the option of reloading ( unless you believe that China will supply insurgents, there will be no more supply ).

*

Not that you cannot reuse the steel cases.  I’m sure those with no option can make that work.  Better risking the life of your gun than risking your life with no ammo.  It just seems that steel cases were quantity over quality.  And your ammo should never be burned in quantity.  They are not a solution to high ammo prices, even though they were used in that role.  They were originally meant to feed an industrial war machine assault carbine.  If you have that carbine, and can afford all its needed ammo NOW ( because you never know when the supply is interrupted ), you will probably be just fine with steel case.  Everyone else with all other guns?  Forget semi dumps and go with slow fire and reloads.

*

You cannot just think about the ills of logistics the end of the modern economy will bring-you have to plan NOW for this occurring.  Christ, are we preppers or are we Black Friday shoppers?  Panic buying is for chumps.  Plan ahead.
