creating demand 2 of 2

CREATING DEMAND 2

What all the experts stress about and collect your money over has already happened.  You want hyperinflation?  The Continental currency during the Revolutionary War and the Confederacy notes during the War Of Northern Colonization.  Even FDR, after he confiscated all the gold, devalued the dollar 40% at one time-not exactly hyperinflation but a huge chunk of change by anyone’s standards.  You want a totally corrupt prick, besides Obammy?  FDR probably killed more servicemen in the service of his banker masters than anyone since 1866.  Obammy is a sad pathetic little Muslim fag in comparison ( I’m sure Hilary will give both of them a run for their money ).  You want a police state?  The states under the federales control during the Civil War.  You want civilians starved to death so our masters could win the war of dominance?  Ditto.  Little brown people killed in our war of occupation?  The Philippines almost 120 years ago.

Global manufacturing overproduction and automation leading to an economic collapse?  Today, but also 1929.  Caused by what, in both cases?  Banksters manipulation and control of the markets.  And what makes you think our future is a complete robot run economy?  It’s just more of all that is bad about capitalism.  And more wish fulfillment from FantasyLand ( nuclear power too cheap to meter!  Dinner in a pill!  Meet George Jetson! ).  How do you create demand when nobody has a job?  Almost fifty years ago, we lost our first colonial war and our one hundred years of energy expansion stalled sending our economy into the crapper both at the same time.  That would have been Tits Up for our country, but a few ruthless but wise gentlemen converted our industrial economy over to a financial service economy and our energy supply from a local to a global one.  What created demand in our economy then?  Credit.

Wages cratered.  Even going from a one to a two income household, the net income was down.  So, with less income, how was more demand created?  Debt.  Look at everything we are in debt today and compare it to fifty years ago.  Then, colleges were mostly free or close to it and not every job needed a degree.  Compare to today.  Most car loans back then were at most two or three years.  Today six is pretty normal, and it takes far more hours of wages to buy a worse product, even before finance charges.  Who didn’t have medical insurance back then?  If it was even needed-cash on the barrelhead far more affordable.  But it sure was cheaper to provide the insurance than a raise to your employees.  Then.  Mortgages were FAR more reasonable by all measures, as was rent.  It wasn’t even as if debt replaced wages for increased demand.  It also started accounting for price increases as well ( every three or twelve times a company merges with another one, all prices must rise to pay for that financing.  Even at 1% interest, it is always yet another loan needing to be paid back.  Albertson’s grocery store alone, in the last ten years or so, changed hands at least three times and was just now was bought by Safeway.  Now you know why that $1.78 can of beans sells for $2.49 there ).

Well, sports fans, debt is now a thing of the past unless it is backstopped by a government guarantee.  That is one reason you get student debt surpassing credit card debt.  The banks are far too leveraged in the derivatives market to afford to have another loan go bad, so you don’t need anymore.  Not that this is a bad thing for you, the heroin supply shortage forcing you to get off the junk.  But the question now becomes, what creates demand?  By most measures, unemployment is at least 20% if not more.  Those with jobs work less hours.  Without welfare, almost all areas of the country would have seen riots already.  With no credit and less hours, with too many households going back to one earner ( two half time jobs ), with zero stimulus from our wars anymore, with our energy supply contracting again as the fracking fields fold, where is there demand to stimulate the economy?  The Great Depression lasted 12 years before, nothing else having worked, we once again created demand by entering a global war.  That is not going to be feasible this time.

We’ve had five hundred years of growth in the West.  Colonization and then carbon fuels.  Even if the “lonnnnnggggg sllllooooowwww collapse guru’s” are correct, the empire of the west has outlasted Rome.  It is time for the end of empire and the new Dark Ages.  There isn’t anything left to supply our needs.  Fundamentals don’t look favorable.

  1. Remember the old tv show married with children? Al was a shoe salesmen that supported a stay at home wife. Though completely unrealistic at that time, this was a throwback to an earlier era by about 3 decades, in which the sole income from such a job could actually support a family.

I think both sets of my grandparents had their mortgages paid off in no more than about 10 years, long before they retired; again, one income.

I recall that even as recently as the 80's, medical insurance seemed to be a given at all but the worst of jobs. That benefit slowly eroded to the point that most places no longer offered it anymore, until uncle sugar came to the rescue. I was full time for about 2 years into my 15 year stint at the electronics company. Past that my hours were gradually whittled away at until I was down below 30 hours a week. I think that those that are “lucky” enough to have full hours, find that they are doing their “share” of the work (more like double) at their company.

    1. I find myself doing upwards to ten times the work some days, measured in pounds toted. So, if everyone else is working twice, and I'm ten times, that means I'm five times as big a dumbass as everyone else. Go, me!

    2. But I'm only working half the hours. So, I'm TEN times more of a dumbass! I almost forgot that little detail.

    3. I would think by now James, that you would all but be completely set up with a lifetime of preps and the such? Can't you back off from the daily grind at this point and get into something more low key, such as an online job or something of the sort? I can't tell you how much I don't miss working for others. Now that I'm distanced from doing so, I realise how little dislike I have for my fellow humans in general.

I lucked out and sold a property that I never thought that I would sell, so that helped. But from here on out I'm only going to be working at Amazon's Mechanical Turk or some other sort of online job. I figure that as long as I have shelter, and 30 years (I'm your age) of food, property taxes, and clothes, I could theoretically lose all income and at least continue to survive at the bare minimum level. I've got 10 years until I can take early SS, but who knows if I'll ever see it? I think that there's going to be a lot more unemployment coming our way in the next decade?

    4. Funny, I just wrote today on my five years of preps. I should have more under your reasoning, but if all jobs AND public assistance is gone it isn't just unemployment we face but anarchy. In that case, you'll be fighting others anyway. Then you don't need preps beyond those five years but the ability to defend and take what you need.
