I should have more under your reasoning, but if all jobs AND public assistance is gone it isn't just unemployment we face but anarchy. In that case, you'll be fighting others anyway. Then you don't need preps beyond those five years but the ability to defend and take what you need.James M Dakinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01382139289994087931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-43660638647534478922016-07-05T17:43:26.865-07:002016-07-05T17:43:26.865-07:00I would think by now James, that you would all but...I would think by now James, that you would all but be completely set up with a lifetime of preps and the such? Can't you back off from the daily grind at this point and get into something more low key, such as an online job or something of the sort? I can't tell you how much I don't miss working for others. Now that I'm distanced from doing so, I realise how little dislike I have for my fellow humans in general.

I lucked out and sold a property that I never thought that I would sell, so that helped. But from here on out I'm only going to be working at Amazon's Mechanical Turk or some other sort of online job. I figure that as long as I have shelter, and 30 years (I'm your age) of food, property taxes, and clothes, I could theoretically lose all income and at least continue to survive at the bare minimum level. I've got 10 years until I can take early SS, but who knows if I'll ever see it? I think that there's going to be a lot more unemployment coming our way in the next decade?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-41518550140009689382016-07-05T15:33:03.655-07:002016-07-05T15:33:03.655-07:00But I'm only working half the hours. So, if everyone else is working twice, and I'm ten times, that means I'm five times as big a dumbass as everyone else. Go, me!James M Dakinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01382139289994087931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-87585254463035848562016-07-05T15:29:55.671-07:002016-07-05T15:29:55.671-07:00That is my gift to you! Though completely unrealistic at that time, this was a throwback to an earlier era by about 3 decades, in which the sole income from such a job could actually support a family.

I think both sets of my grandparents had their mortgages paid off in no more than about 10 years, long before they retired; again, one income.

I recall that even as recently as the 80's, medical insurance seemed to be a given at all but the worst of jobs. That benefit slowly eroded to the point that most places no longer offered it anymore, until uncle sugar came to the rescue. I was full time for about 2 years into my 15 year stint at the electronics company. Past that my hours were gradually whittled away at until I was down below 30 hours a week. I think that those that are “lucky” enough to have full hours, find that they are doing their “share” of the work (more like double) at their company.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
