I know CA is the land of fruits and nuts, but I wonder, if you excluded that state, how many serial killers and mass murderers were in cloudy locations. Depression is common among the people and the treatment for most is booze, tobacco and money. Casinos and pot are now legal. But you can't buy or sell pot yet, however you can give it away and grow 6 plants for each adult over 21. Most local towns are not allowing sales of pot near me but I live near the Ohio border. Guess I better prepare for the onslaught of people looking to score from my 36 acre homestead. The libertarian anti government in me kind of wants to grow some to thumb my nose but I don't want ghetto rats coming from Toledo all 15 miles away. White people problems I know. Still they will come, how pissed they will be if they don't get some. Hair is still awesome! Back when I was still employed, but underemployed, I would occasionally crash at work to save on motel costs (I didn’t live close to work, and the boss didn’t know that I did this). The bathrooms at work didn’t have showers, so I hopped in an empty trash can to prevent from getting water all over the place. I would take one of those plastic gallon water jugs, pour a little over my head around my pits, lather up, rinse, and finish with about half of the jug left. On a really hot day, you could optionally pour the remainder over yourself to wash away excess perspiration, but figure a gallon tops, even in this scenario. And really, the plastic gallon water jugs work just fine; you really don’t need one of those solar shower deals. It's rather hard to lift 5 gallons of water over myself and tie it up in the field. Better to have a ladder or RV roof to place it. Water pressure is 1 psi for every foot of drop. It feels like holding a 40 pound infant that gives you a golden shower.
However I have found a solution. Lord Bison of the great hair linked years ago to a fellow who used a garden pump sprayer with a kitchen pull out spray faucet. I made one and use it on family backpack trips. It has 7 feet of hose so I don't have to lift it off the ground. One gallon works for me but
two gallons is a day spa treatment in the field.I bought a Kelly kettle for heating water. Put cold water in first tank and top it off with hot. It runs about 5 minutes per gallon and requires a 2nd pumping halfway through. I also made additional attachments to this system. I can connect my Sawyer filter to the line and filter drinking water with ease. With the tank sprayer dry I have another attachment for inflating air mattresses or swim toys. Can also be used as bellows for stoking campfires. I conduct myself accordingly on deer hunting trips or vacationing excursions off roadwise into the bush. Treat it as an adventure with childish enthusiasm and just play the bat shit crazy uncle role and all those little nuanced adversities is just minor details along the way of a journey. Envision one's self as that stoic animal that stands in the pouring rain undeterred in it's own quest for life and survival. To stretch out your shower, enter with an already soaked cloth and use that with the shower dribble to quickly wet and rinse. Better than just standing under and vainly trying to wet all parts, or having enough pressure ( might need a scrubber/cloth on a stick for your back ). Use a VERY thick washcloth or smaller bath towel. Thin cloth sucks. I'd be cautious about it being too hot in a solar cooker. I'll fill it with faucet water at first and hang it on a tree branch first thing in the morning. I'll use the "no touch" thermometer to monitor it's heating in the sun. The bag is black plastic and that will help but it will still take time. Maybe I could put it in a solar cooker? Anyway, it has a small twist valve so you turn it on and get an area wet and then turn it off and soap up. Then rinse, then do another area. I can't imagine 5 gals being enough the first time. Maybe do the top half on day 1 and then the bottom half on day 2? Learning curve.

We have a digital gauge on our water softener and a 10 min shower uses about 30 gallons. No, the shower head doesn't have the factory limiter in it. The limiter seemed to inject air into the stream and I had to run it twice as long to get the same amount of rinsing factor. So I yanked it. It was a white plastic plug with hundreds of tiny air inducing holes in it.

Round 2 with the camp shower will be raw pond water run through my self made 5 gallon bucket filtration system. ghostsnipernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-27236200458672631162019-02-13T10:03:39.472-08:002019-02-13T10:03:39.472-08:00Family members forced to downsize paycheck and sel...Family members forced to downsize paycheck and sell the house/buy an RV were offered free land squat. If one is not toughened up to privatations and environmental (weather, living conditions, new challenges) adversities they will fail the homesteader and post collapse testing. Remus posted old timey photos of depression era conditions and people. It was very informative to get phsyched up. Washing dishes in a bucket, no hot showering, cooking like a hobo wil rock too many peoples world. Expect a lot of suicides all about the roadsides by non hackers.
