It could very easily be state governments, imprison you for 'failure to pay' and all prisoners 'put to work to repay their debt to society and costs of incarceration (read the government that put them there)' This is ALREADY happening to a minor extent, and since almost everyone has debts almost everyone will be rounded up. The day after I get unemployed I will begin bankruptcy proceedings against my student loans (my only remaining debts) I already have the papers and only need to update them. The farmers and warlords get second dibs. Everyone else is a mad scramble in the face of scarcity. The troops will do as they are told to keep getting fed, thats drummed into them in basic training (told when to eat, and even to some extent how much). Most cops are former veterans. Things will crumble slowly at first, or rather they already are, unless things go from a slow walk to jet speeds instantly I guarantee that something like my scenario will be tried (how successfully and large scale can be doubted, but not that it wont be tried). Obviously as long as machines are cheaper than people for certain roles thats what will be used, but once the price difference is marginal thats when the collapse will have hit a jogging pace and human slave labor (in another name) will be used in place of machines.

I am learning about cafeteria style cooking on my off time so that if/when they round me up I will get to work in the kitchens (I hope)...JJGreyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06708302086326564665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-89437482662375470432018-01-16T10:12:09.317-08:002018-01-16T10:12:09.317-08:00JJ, previous comment-I think you assume more polic...JJ, previous comment-I think you assume more police competence in the face of starvation than is warranted. Unfortunately I very much doubt it will be like the envisioned 'golden horde' of post-apocalyptic fiction. Instead I think there will be enough law and order that the national guard or military (or at least state troopers) will be escorting people to be 'relocated' from the cities into new 'full employment assisted living compounds' that the government will be throwing up (think shipping containers and tents and fema trailers inside a barbwire fence line for the refugees - I mean 're-educating workforce') Then the guards for those places will go home and either not come back OR will become themselves the local warlords as things deteriorate as far as rule of law. As a city dweller, I knew that many people had "head to the hills" as their default emergency response. Now as a resident of ruralville, it's rather humorous to see how out of their element the city people are when they come out here. They have no chance of making it after an event if they bugged out to ruralville. Like 11:05 said above, I hope some people near the fringe areas around my ruralville are willing and/or able to react quickly enough to seal off the access points.
Peace outAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-5187956427173596532018-01-15T17:37:10.812-08:002018-01-15T17:37:10.812-08:00Your 100th meridian is too arbitrary only because ...Your 100th meridian is too arbitrary only because I hang in the near 87. I had this one hippy manager that let this methhead employee get away with murder, and stress out all of his co-workers when he was coming down off of a multiple day high, and acting like a complete asshole. Turns out this employee was the hippy manager’s meth supplier. When you would confront the hippy, he’d just get in your face and act completely hostile, as if you were in the wrong. Should of kicked his ass, but of course that wouldn’t have ended well for me.

I also made the mistake of bringing up politics on more than one occasion, and of course this is a terrible idea, especially when your politics are not the flavor of the day views, and this was many years ago.

Knowing what I know now I would have plotted an early exit from the workforce, and could have easily done so having stayed single and child free. But when one side openly insults your demographic (WASP) you tend to take it personally, and in turn, stick it to the offending party by voting for the alternative, if for no other reason than to spite them. Throw in pervert and deviant glorification, and female empowerment (at the expense of male demotion) and it’s a done deal. And while it’s clear that both sides could care less about you, one side makes no attempt to even hide it, and worse yet, openly mocks you! So yes, I do take such things personally. Perhaps I shouldn’t, but I do.
