Even a worse case Gore Warming return to a global jungle with the "wetbulb" issue of too high of humidity will see enough survivors ( the pigmies, for that environment ). It has been fostered by the government. It will not be the take America back type. What has happened is we have self segregated in to white black Hispanic rich poor protestants catholic Muslim. Each group is being picked off one at a time as a power block. The goal isn't to kill it is to vilify and render powerless with the help of the other groups.

The confederate flag disappearing was to empower blacks and vilify whites and states rights. Muslims where thrown into the mix for everyone to hate next it will be black vs. Hispanics. A repeat of the civil war today could not happen as 1860 it would look more like 1776 . With out the hate people would turn on the politicians . But the only people that will survive the next major collapse will be those living way outside of the mainstream, such as the well stocked rugged Alaskan homesteader living 50+ miles from the nearest human, and has to fly into his roadless homestead.

Long term survival of mankind was what I was referring to in my example. I think that there was a short window of opportunity following the early days of the space age, in which we had to make the most of that new found technology to further exploration. Having one planet is too much of placing our eggs in one basket, metaphorically speaking.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-22974128269301622502016-05-23T14:20:29.715-07:002016-05-23T14:20:29.715-07:00We'll survive this, just as we did the Toba vo...We'll survive this, just as we did the Toba volcano and other bottleneck Near Extinction Level Events. I recall when I was a kid, my mother got us kids a Disney encyclopedia set, circa early 1970's. One particular volume dealt with the future and technology, and back then, they did indeed anticipate a Jetson like future by the year 2000, which of course did not happen.

I think that we really needed to concentrate our efforts early in the space race, to seek out future habitable star systems. We could have started out with Moon bases, and from there, used that as a platform to launch further exploration. Also, you have all that Helium 3 on the moon for further energy independence. It didn't happen of course, and now I'd say that it's too late for mankind. But it was probably the only hope for the long term survival of the species, assuming that you feel that the species is even worth saving. Looking around at my fellow man, I'm not feeling very hopeful, so perhaps it worked out for the best?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
