I'm not preaching to the choir, either. Rather, I'm trying to get the fence sitters to embrace fear and loathing. The previous reply should have said "math" not "moth". I get what you are saying, though. Rather than the acronym EROEI though, I change it in my mind to the simpler and more widely-known "ROI," return on investment.

Will sign with my fake name so at least you know it's me,

Big___AlAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-90986199163958830752017-03-17T15:52:27.335-07:002017-03-17T15:52:27.335-07:00Love the first sentence. Yep, this kind of stuff ...Love the first sentence. Yep, this kind of stuff is boring as hell, like economics or moth, unless you dig it. I stipulate that while we might have a lot of oil left, all of poor quality-but probably only decades-if we can't run our economies on poor oil ( as opposed to cheap and rich quality ) we go belly up. We could muddle through, I just take the worse case scenario. Finally looked up your suggested search term; I get it. Found a very explanatory article on the concept, the summation of which is:

"If our problem is a shortage of fossil fuels, fossil fuel EROEI analysis is ideal for determining how to best leverage our small remaining fossil fuel supply... If our problem isn’t really a shortage of fossil fuels, EROEI is much less helpful."

I would read more on the subject, but I find reading the phone book more interesting.

I posit that we have 100s of years of fossil fuels available. If people want it, they'll have to pay for it. If they don't, they will die. Until we develop other viable options.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-59997830079424562872017-02-05T06:21:00.590-08:002017-02-05T06:21:00.590-08:00Ah, NO! I enjoy a lot of what I'm reading, but haven't yet determined on what your fascination with us running out of energy is based. Hate to break it to you... we have like 300 years of so-called fossil fuels available to us. Plenty of time to develop new technology.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-66265727419228610852017-01-23T15:31:43.115-08:002017-01-23T15:31:43.115-08:00Okay, granted, to a crackhead anything worth $5 is...Okay, granted, to a crackhead anything worth $5 is valuable. You want something to bribe them off with (the neighbors more so than the government). That way they see you as minimally useful as long as left alone. Skills are good for this, even just brute labor, which is why herbalism, brewing, etc. Simple skills that make your current day to day life a little better, can easily be taught to those who want to bother, but aren't worth doing by those who have better/ more profitable things to do.
Living in a barely adequate shack, on land not worth the legal hassle of taking, using the cheapest transportation that can fulfil your needs, etc.
And most of all not being a burden but a MINOR asset to the local community will see to it that you mostly get left alone by everyone.
JJGreyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06708302086326564665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2686829448547770092.post-44166343566241100612017-01-21T06:17:33.212-08:002017-01-21T06:17:33.212-08:00Having nothing either the neighbors or the govt wa...Having nothing either the neighbors or the govt wants is the key. I have the blue print. I have the expensive parts (for the most part) and those expensive parts aren't sought after by TPTB. A wheat grinder? Pfft. They can't take my firearms thanks to our draconian laws (they're registered to me and me alone. Only the Po Po can take them). Dingonoreply@blogger.com
